Getting Closer

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

A few days have passed and Sunset Shimmer managed to make amends with the rest of Fluttershy’s friends. She helped Applejack on the farm, helped Pinkie Pie with her party planning, helped Rainbow Dash train for her upcoming sporting events, and apologized to Rarity several times for what happened at the Spring Fling. It took some time, but each of them warmed up to Sunset eventually. Although everyone else at Canterlot High didn’t truly forgive Sunset Shimmer yet, she was grateful for the girls sticking by her side. She was especially grateful for Fluttershy being the first one to reach out and help her.

One day, while eating lunch in the cafeteria, the girls were all sitting at a table together. Sunset was sitting next to Fluttershy and was once again noticing how beautiful Fluttershy was. Not just on the outside but on the inside as well. Fluttershy noticed Sunset staring at her and was a little bit surprised.

“Uh, Sunset is everything okay?” Fluttershy asked.

Sunset brought herself back into reality and realized she was staring at Fluttershy for a long time. She tried to think of something. She then noticed that she had a few crumbs on her face.

“Uh, you have a couple of crumbs on your face.” Sunset said.

“I do?” Fluttershy asked and then felt her face and found crumbs. “Oh, I do.”

Fluttershy grabbed a napkin and wiped the crumbs off her face. The other girls smiled as they noticed Sunset blushing.

“Excuse me, everyone, I have to use the bathroom.” Fluttershy said as she left table and headed to the bathroom.

Sunset just looked sheepish as Fluttershy left the table but then she noticed the other girls smiling at her.

“What?” Sunset asked.

“Someone’s a smitten kitten.” Rarity said.

“Who? Me?” Sunset asked.

“Yes, you, silly.” Pinkie Pie answered.

“I’m don’t have the slightest idea what you’re talking about.” Sunset said in self defense.

“Don’t lie, sugar cube. You like Fluttershy.” Applejack responded.

“No, I don’t.” Sunset said trying to cover her tracks.

“There’s nothing wrong with liking Fluttershy, darling. You’re allowed to like who you like.” Rarity said.

“What if she doesn’t like me back?” Sunset asked. “Sure she views me as a friend, but I don’t think she’ll ever like me the way I like her.”

“You’ll never know until you try.” Applejack answered. “Why don’t you give it some time first?”

“Besides, I think you two would make an adorable couple.” Pinkie Pie added.

“Just don’t act too mushy in front of the rest of us.” Rainbow Dash said.

Sunset thought about it. If the others thought she should give it a try, maybe she should.

“Okay, but I still want to wait a little bit.” Sunset responded.

Fluttershy came back from the bathroom and Sunset decided to ask her a question.

“Hey, Fluttershy, does the animal shelter still need any volunteers?” Sunset asked.

“Yes, yes it does.” Fluttershy answered.

“I was thinking maybe I could volunteer.” Sunset offered.

Fluttershy’s eyes widened with excitement.

“Really?” Fluttershy asked.

“Absolutely.” Sunset answered.

Fluttershy wrapped her arms around Sunset in a tight hug.

“Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.” Fluttershy said with excitement.

Sunset smiled as Fluttershy hugged her.

“You’re welcome.” Sunset responded.

The bell rang as lunch ended and the girls headed back to class.

“I still have detention all week. How does this weekend sound?” Sunset asked.

“Sounds perfect. I’ll see you there.” Fluttershy answered as she went back to class.

“See you there.” Sunset said and headed back to her class as well.
