A Sunshyne Love Story

It was Christmas Eve and Sunset and Fluttershy were spending it together at Sunset’s house. They were cuddled up together in a blanket on the couch watching a Yule log and listening to Christmas music on the TV. The blanket was embroidered with butterflies and suns that resemble Sunset’s cutie mark. It was a Christmas gift from Rarity to the both of them.

“I love Christmas.” Fluttershy said. “Everyone is getting together with their family and friends, giving each other gifts, showing how much they care, it’s the perfect time of year to spread kindness.”

“You know, Fluttershy, in a way, you kind of make every day a little bit like Christmas.” Sunset added.

“What do you mean, Sunset?” Fluttershy asked.

“Like you said, Christmas is the perfect time of year to spread kindness, and because you’re the embodiment of kindness, you’re also the kind of embodiment of the Christmas spirit.” Sunset answered.

“Aww.” Fluttershy replied as she snuggled up closer to Sunset.

Sunset smiled as her girlfriend rested her head on her shoulder.

“Did I ever tell you how cute you are?” Sunset asked.

“You tell me that every day.” Fluttershy answered.

The two of them giggled as they continued watching the Yule log.

“Sunset, do they celebrate Christmas in Equestria?” Fluttershy asked.

“No, but there’s a holiday that’s sort of like Christmas.” Sunset answered. “It’s called Hearth’s Warming, while its origin is different than that of Christmas, the celebration is very similar. We give each other presents, sing songs, decorate trees, and get together with friends and family just like Christmas.”

“What’s the origin story of Hearth’s Warming?” Fluttershy asked.

Sunset began to tell Fluttershy the story of Hearth’s Warming. She told her about how ponies were divided by hatred, how the windigos fed off their hatred, and the how Fire of Friendship saved them from the windigos.

“Wow.” Fluttershy said. “That’s a very interesting story.”

“And a very important story.” Sunset replied. “It’s not only the origin of Hearth’s Warming, but also the origin of how Equestria became Equestria.”

“Are there any other famous Hearth’s Warming stories?” Fluttershy asked.

“Well, there’s A Hearth’s Warming Tale.” Sunset answered. “It tells the story of Snowfall Frost, a powerful but bitter unicorn who hates Hearth’s Warming and tries to erase it from existence.”

“That’s a bit excessive.” Fluttershy said.

“I know.” Sunset replied. “However, she’s visited by three spirits that show her the past, present, and future, and try to teach her the importance of the holiday.”

“That sounds very similar to A Christmas Carol.” Fluttershy said. “Except for the part about trying to erase the holiday from existence.”

“Could just be a coincidence.” Sunset said.

Fluttershy yawned since it was getting late. Sunset looked at her lovingly as she yawned. She was just so adorable in Sunset’s eyes.

“Aww, is my Christmas angel getting tired?” Sunset asked.

“Maybe a little bit.” Fluttershy answered.

“How about we each open up one present before bed?” Sunset asked.

“Sure.” Fluttershy answered.

Sunset grabbed two presents from underneath the Christmas tree, one for each of them.

“You open up yours first.” Sunset said.

“Okay.” Fluttershy replied.

Fluttershy started to open her present, and found a new tambourine.

“A new tambourine.” Fluttershy said.

Fluttershy gave her old tambourine to the toy drive hoping that it would make a little kid happy.

“Thank you so much.” Fluttershy exclaimed as she hugged Sunset tight.

“You’re welcome.” Sunset responded.

“Open your gift now.” Fluttershy insisted.

“Okay.” Sunset said.

Sunset opened up her present to find a pretty bracelet which had her cutie mark on it.

“Do you like it?” Fluttershy asked.

“I love it. Thanks, Fluttershy.” Sunset answered and then kissed Fluttershy on her cheek.

“You’re welcome.” Fluttershy said and then yawned again.

“Come on, let’s head to bed.” Sunset said.

“Okay.” Fluttershy said as they went upstairs and got in bed together.

Fluttershy quickly fell asleep and Sunset kissed her on the forehead.

“Sweet dreams, Shy.” Sunset whispered.

Before going to sleep, Sunset got out her magic book and began to write to Twilight.

“Dear Princess Twilight,

I hope that you’re having a good Hearth’s Warming season. I’m having an amazing Christmas season with Fluttershy. I’ve been having so much fun with her ever since we got together. We sung Christmas carols, made Christmas cookies with Pinkie Pie, and had a Christmas movie marathon. We even took a sleigh ride together through town. I’ve had so many great memories with her, I hope that we have more great memories together. Please say Happy Hearth’s Warming to Princess Celestia for me.

After writing her message to Twilight, Sunset laid down in bed, held Fluttershy tight, and fell asleep right beside her.
