Ch. 9: Ashes

Father Montgomery awoke the next morning it the hastily constructed refuge camp with in the safe zone. That morning the gunfire and roars of the battle could be clearly heard. The priest looked up and was stunned at the sight; the ashes were falling like snow upon the town.
He quickly got dressed, as he knew he would be busy today with the multiple funerals that would be needed. As he rushed out the door of the building he had spent the night in, one of the conventional sized APCs rushed by with multiple stretchers on it. Somewhere someone yelled “We just lost zone thirteen prepare the medical center to receive all personal assigned to that zone!”
“Well that can’t be good.” Father Montgomery said knowing this would be a long day.
--
The night had been long for a very certain Scootaloo, after a long drive to the safe zone, the soldiers had been given an assignment and had to go. Luckily she was able to room with the Apples who were also displaced by the attack. Her and the rest of the crusaders had gathered for a meeting in the tent that Rarity and SweetyBelle where assigned.
“Well this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, would be a shame if we never got our cutie marks because we was scared!” Applebloom exclaimed. Her and Sweetybelle had been arguing over whether or not they could go crusading.
“But this is bad! Even the human things can’t beat the monsters!” Sweetybelle protested.
“I think we should take a look at what’s out there.” Scootaloo mumbled.
“See, Scootaloo thinks it’s a good idea!” Applebloom stated triumphantly.
“Cutie Mark Crusaders Demon Watchers!” the three fillies shouted before rushing out in to the road and hopping on to the under carriage of a passing Jeep.
--
Out in the field at the foot of the hill that the church was on a Cyan figure began to move. Looking up Rainbow Dash noticed that the church was still partially standing. A glance over to Ponyville confirmed that her demons had been through here, so why was the church still standing?
“Well got to fix that.” She mused before taking of a breathing fire on to the remains.
What are you doing? She paused, the voice wasn’t it’s normal tone, but she got the message she should be fighting humans rather than burning ruins. The change in tone must be due to being blown in half and thrown through a wall.
She was flying over the edge of the town destroying pockets of resistance and monitoring the movements of her troops. Then she heard it again. Why are you doing this?
The voice sounded familiar of course it was her master so it should. Also it was right she should be fighting on the front lines not doing clean up.
--
The girls had road the underbelly of the tank for a few minutes and the sounds of gunfire were much louder. “I think we should get of so we can observe from a distance.” Scootaloo suggested and her to comrades nodded in agreement.
They dropped of the bottom and got a good look at what used to be their town. Picture some of the images of town hit with incendiaries during World War II, those towns were mostly brick, now picture what it would look like if everything was wood, and you have the idea.
Their moment of shock was cut short when the tank violently exploded, and a dragon-winged cyan flaming mare swooped over head.
“AH! Oh my gosh! We need to hide!” Sweetybelle shrieked and made a dash for the charred remains of o house. Applebloom and Scootaloo quickly followed.
Inside the wreckage the three could see a battle. A squad of soldiers was facing off with three of the medium demons, and one behemoth. It seemed like it was over for the humans, one of them was screaming what sounded like nonsense in to his radio. There was a loud humming sound, and all the soldiers began to retreat back while fire at the enemy. Suddenly the flying contraption that was making the humming began to hover. The the air was filled with the roar of the three chain guns on the helicopter as it gunned down the medium, and the screech of missiles as it ripped the behemoth in two.
“Ah think we got to be going now!” Applebloom stated and the three began to rush their way back to the safe zone.
On their way back however, the helicopter was sent flying, and it smashed right into the road separating Scootaloo from her friends.
“Scootaloo! What are we going to do!” Sweetybelle asked terrified.
“You guys head back to the safe zone I’ll try to find a way around don’t wait for me I’ll be fine!” She responded before rushing down a alleyway.
--
Rainbow Dash was pushing back some humans who were trying to make an advance. They she noticed that something was in her air! She whirled around to see one of those helicopters take out a behemoth and three mediums!
“Welcome to Equestria!” she bellowed as she attacked sending it to the streets below.
What is wrong with you, or rather, me, what is wrong with me?! The voice said, then something clicked; this wasn’t master, it sounded familiar because it was her. Back when she was weak! If part of her was blocking her from master then she would have to stomp it out. Hunting and tearing innocent ponies to shreds would do the trick.
--
Scootaloo must have made a wrong turn somewhere. It was night fall, and she was at the safe zone, or rather the 10 foot tall segmented metal/concrete wall topped with razor wire and the occasional turret that sealed of the safe zone.
She heard them approach, and she curled up ready to die, the monsters stocked around the corner, they were lead by a cyan pony with bat-like wings, horns, red eyes, and a multicoloured rainbow mane. Behind it was an assortment of demons that would make even discord cry with fear.
“Rainbow Dash is that you?” The small orange filly whispered.
To anyone watching it seemed like Rainbow Dash had gone cross eyed for a moment, however in her head:
Rainbow Dash or at least the good part of her was standing on the alter of the church in a pure Pegasus form, and what she guessed to be the representation of her evil self, a cyan medium stood by the entrance. They where in the burning remains of the church.
“Give me back my body!” Good Rainbow growled.
“No, I refuse to be weak again! I refuse to be worthless!” Evil Dash shouted back.
“Fine then I’ll take it back!” Good Rainbow Dash said brandishing one of the plasma claw gauntlets that some of the humans wore.
They rushed at each other. Good Dash used her speed and flight to gain some quick hits, but then bad Dash punched her square in the face and unleashed some demon fire on her.
Good Dash was left sputtering on the ground, her evil persona towering over her.
“You can’t win I am powerful now, why would you want to be weak?!” The evil Dash questioned.
“No. You can’t win because I am loyal to my friends!” As she bellowed this her element materialized around her neck.
“Good bye.” She finished as she blasted her alter ego, allowing her to fall back into the real world with a new or rather old outlook on things.
