The TARDIS

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

TJ and Marc both stared at the TARDIS in awe. TJ ran his hand along the side of the wooden frame, the only thought going through his mind was “It’s bigger on the inside.” Ian was still confused about who the Doctor was and what the TARDIS was.

“Basically, i’m a time traveler,” the Doctor said, “and the TARDIS is my ship.”

“But how do you fit a time machine inside a blue box? there’s like, no elbow room,” Ian said. The Doctor put his Sonic Screwdriver back into his coat pocket and walked over to the TARDIS.

“Come and have a look-see,” he said, putting the key into the door and opening it up. Ian apprehensively walked over, but TJ and Marc ran right in. Ian looked inside and saw the massive size of the control room. He backed out, then looked back inside. He looked in all directions the stepped out of it once more. He paced around the TARDIS, knocking on the wood and checked all four sides. He looked inside again.

“T-this is a trick, isn’t it?” he asked.

“Nope,” the doctor replied, leaning against the TARDIS’s controls. Ian looked like he was going to have a heart attack.

“I-it’s bigger on--”

“Bigger on the inside, yes,” The Doctor said, smiling and nodding. “Well, since you all are here and know a bit about this stuff, why don’t i give you a lift?”

“You’re serious?” Marc asked. The Doctor nodded, then turned around to face the controls.

“I’ll just have to modify the TARDIS a little bit to accommodate five more people.” He started fiddling with the knobs and buttons. Skips and Zach walked into the TARDIS as well and the Doctor turned around.

“Good, now you’re all here,” the Doctor said. He walked over to Zach and took the time machine out of his hand.

“Thank you,” said the Doctor as he walked back over to the TARDIS’s controls. He pulled out his Sonic Screwdriver again and scanned it. “Wow, this is a small time machine. Only good for traveling about a year, give or take a couple of months. It’s been altered a bit.”

“yeah, i did that,” Skips said, “is that a problem?”

“No, no problem at all. I’ll just have to...” the Doctor started pulling against the weak metal frame of the time machine until it opened up. “There.” The Doctor started to remove wires, plug in wires and strip the whole time machine down.to little more than a few pieces of odd shaped metal.

“What are you doing?” Zach asked, peering over the Doctor’s shoulder.

“Making it compatible to the TARDIS,” he replied. “That way, we can reverse dimension jump. I can follow the energy pattern from that teleporter and we can track down your friend.” The Doctor plugged in one last wire, then stepped back. “That ought to do it.” The Doctor ran over to the door and closed it, then back to the controls.

“But wait,” Marc said, “I thought you couldn’t travel to parallel universes and dimensions.”

“Well, i can’t, not in a normal situation. The TARDIS feeds off of an energy source in this universe. If i were to leave this universe and go to another, i’d be stranded.”

“Then we can’t go?” Zach asked.

“No, no, we can now,” the Doctor said, patting the disassembled time machine, “this little gizmo will detect a similar energy source in the parallel universe for the TARDIS to use.”

“So we can go anywhere?”

“Anywhere in this universe, the multiverse and time,” the Doctor said.

“Why are you helping us, Doctor?” TJ asked. The Doctor turned and faced him.

“Because the TARDIS drew me here. It took me where i had to go, not where i wanted to go. Besides, I love adventure and this sounds like a barrel of fun to me. I never dimension jump because it’s too dangerous.” The Doctor turned back to the controls and started flipping switches again and typing on a keyboard. “Besides, i’ve been looking for some new companions.”

“Thanks, Doc,” Skips said. The Doctor nodded, still typing away on the keyboard.

“Okay, your friend should have the same kind of energy signal as the one’s i picked off of that teleporter. we can scan through the multiverse and find the unique signal,” he said. He pulled the screen over to him and looked at it. “Aha!” he exclaimed,“there it is, the only signal outside of this universe.”

“We can catch Benji!” Ian said. The Doctor shooed away Zach and TJ and started to run around the controls, flipping switches, levers and knobs, then put his hand on a big lever.

“Hold on to something,” he said “‘cause i have no clue what might happen!” He pulled the lever down and the entire TARDIS shook as they changed rea
