CHAPTER 1

Spyro began to wake. He slowly opened his eyes, and blinked a few times as his vision cleared. A room became visible, as everything smelled like paper. Above him was very clearly some wood, yep, this is a wooden house, good thing he didn't wake up startled. Spyro moaned, and rubbed his head, while beginning to remember what just happened.

"Was that a dream?" Spyro asked out loud, beginning to look around more.

"Was what a dream?" Asked Twilight Sparkle, inadvertently answering Spyro's question.

Spyro sat up, and Sparx buzzed around his head making sure her was wide awake. "I guess it wasn't." he replied as he rubbed his eye then held out a claw for Sparx to land.

With a look at the room, Spyro noticed he was in a library, resting on a coach. The whole place appeared to have been carved out of the inside of a tree as well. Spyro got a good look of the library now, noting that it is a REALLY good thing they didn't wake him. Likeliness of it is he'd burn half of it immediately. Sparx was here though, making him feel more at home anyway, and he began remembering the earlier conversation. Spyro's thoughts were then cut, as Twilight was now trotting toward him, hovering a cup of tea with magic emanating from her horn.

"That's a neat trick." complimente Spyro, eying the magic aura with curiosity.

Twilight smirked, "Have you not seen magic where your from?"

"I have, though most the time it was used at me." Spyro answered, slowly moving his head from side to side, observing the library more, "By the way, what happened?"

Twilight set the tea on a coffee table in front of Spyro, "Well, you passed out for an unexplained reason, likely a concussion, so I brought you to my place to rest. That was last night, now it's 8:13 in the morning."

Spyro rubbed behind his left horn, as Sparx flew by his head investigating. Shurggin it off, Spyro picked up the cup of tea and took a sip. Though he never really liked tea, this cup was actually kind of good, not too mention it almost immediately soothed his headache. After a moment, He spoke up in a bit of a condescending tone, "Twilight, is it? I just want to let you now, keeping me in a library was a bad idea, since it apparently wasn't obvious."

Twilight rubbed the back of her head and replied quickly, "Oh, well, I've had Spike here for a while, I figured you'd be fine."

Spyro took another sip of tea, "Eeehhh... I just, got some sort of think when I wake up sometimes. Result of some... experiences." He then looked down, not really feeling like going into further detail.

"Oh, I didn't realize that..." replied Twilight, deciding to change the topic, and looked at Sparx who was currently hovering in place examining her, "What's up with your Dragonfly buddy?", she asked while down and sipped her own tea.

Spyro's mood immediately lightened, "Oh, this is Sparx. He has been my pal since I can remember! This little guy has been through everything I have. He has special magic abilities to. Such as helpful thins like store many items in some sort of magical void at a time, like an invisible weightless backpack." As Spyro finished, Sparx held out his little chest in a narcissistic manner.

"Well it sounds like he is very helpful, I may want to study him sometime, to see where his magical properties come from." Replied Twilight.

Sparx flew back a little bit, eying Twilight nervously, as Spyro laughed under his breath, “I think he doesn’t like that idea.”

“Oh, that’s alright!” replied Twilight, "After all, that's not why you're here."

Spyro set down his cup and clapped his claws together, "So when do I get to stopping this black dragon jagoff that has been causing yins trouble?"

Twilight looked slightly surprised, "I wasn't sure you were up to the task just yet, after passing out... I thought you may have a concussion after that landing from the spell..."

Spyro looked at Twilight, and sighed, "You may be right... I'm also assuming you're also thinking I may not be up to fighting another dragon... I actually haven't fought another dragon before, but believe me, I have been through a lot!"

Twilight looked slightly curious as well a surprised, "Well, I guess that's part of it too, but being through a lot isn't always a good thing. However, now I am curious as to you adventures..."

Spyro thought for a second, getting an entertaining idea "I can sum it up in a good time I suppose. First off, I grew up rather much like a normal dragon, as the 6 Dragons realms lived together in harmony, then everything changed when the Gnasty Gnorc attacked!"

Spyro stood up, and emphasized it like a campfire story, "Only the Dragons, of which were plentiful and had much power could stop him, but when the realms needed them most, Gnasty turned them into crystal! But, he screwed up, and missed me by sheer luck. It did not take long for me to realize I could free the other dragons by touch, so I quickly freed the ones of my realm, and adventured through all of the realms, until I finally met Gnasty face to face..." Spyro smirked at this part, "And, since you would figure now that I am here, I beat his arsenal out of the realms."

Twilight cocked her head slightly in thought, "You should consider storytelling more often... What all did you have to do through the realms? Were there different people?"

Spyro replied "Well, I did have help from fairies often enough, they even save me from falling off of high mountains a few times. Dragons can't fly perfectly without extra energy until they are older.... Then there was one of his main minions, Jacquez... That thing was a freak..."

Suddenly, Spike came into the front door of the Library, carrying multiple bags of generic supplies such as quills, paper sheets, and food for Twilight's Owl. He appeared a bit more giddy and upbeat now, as Spyro stared a bit, considering he was different from the other Dragons he was around.Upon seeing Twilight and Spyro on the other side of the main room, Spike smiled and said, "Hey Twilight! I see Spyro is awake."

"Yes he is, how was the town?" asked Twilight.

"Great! Just had the best talk with Rarity, she offered me a gem!" answered Spike.

Spyro raised his eyebrow scaly thing slightly, "Twilight, I am wondering, how come everything appears to be alright when you say there is an imminent threat?"

Twilight took another sip of tea, "Well, In the last couple years, this town has faced a dark alicorn trying to make the night last forever, an army of parasprites eating everything, and ursa minor rampaging around, the god of chaos turning everything into a madhouse, and basically anything else that could make things that aren't affecting you right then seem minor. However, since we no longer have the elements of harmony, we are not very capable of stopping the current situation."

"So I take it the elements of harmony were some kind of freedom weapon? And I bet there's seven of 'em." asked Spyro

Spike answered, "They are six elements wielded by Twilight here, and her friends. They basically use the power of harmony between ponies, represented by their wearers, to create a powerful beam of mass destruction that can defeat almost any foe and return things to normal."

"The fact they are missing, REALLY concerns us." added Twilight looking more serious now, "And this Black dragon, I am not sure you can take her."

Spyro got the same full of himself smirk again, and replied "I haven't mentioned the angry Wizard and his two dinosaur minions I stopped, or how I played a big part of reunited the dragon realms with the old realms by defeating an evil Sorceress and her many minions?"

Twilight sighed as she thought, "I realize that Spyro had faced some tough foes, though i'm wasn't sure if he is exaggerating. However, I haven't seen him do anything special yet, which made me think I should make sure he is up to the task, perhaps by a series of tests..."

"I do think you have a better chance than us,", said Twilight, "It's just that it'd be more reassuring to have a gameplan to this first. The reason we aren't in a huge rush is because Princess Luna is spying on the Black Dragon as we speak, I believe she is actually up north near the Crystal Empire right now."

Spyro didn't know much of the land at all, but based on the information being relayed, he decided that they had the situation at least slightly under control. Though he would probably need a quick lesson on the geography before he went anywhere to take care of the problem. Not too mention, a Princess doing the dirty work, what?

"In the meantime," started Twilight as she stood up, "I was going to get to know you, while introducing you to our land and such."

Spike then spoke up waving a scroll, "Well, I got a letter ready for Celestia, you want to read it over Twi?"

Twilight stood up, "Yes, of course. Keep Spyro some company real quick, alright?"

"We'll be fine!" Said Spyro leisurely.

As soon as Twilight left, a moment of awkwardness dawned upon the room, as the two dragons sat looking at eachother, then away, knowing at some point one of them would have to ask a question.

"So...." started Spike, "What’s it like where you from?"

Spyro thought for a moment, then replied "Diverse, there's a lot more dragons, but of different types. The whole map is actually set of kind of linear, where grassy areas reside in the realm we call Artisans, the desert areas in Peace Keepers, snowy mountains in Magic Makers, swamps and rainforests in Beast Makers, and everything unnatural is in Dreamweavers. Then there's the Junk Lands, they are still being cleaned up from Gnasty Gnorc's reign, but I also here they find all sorts of hidden treasure there from other civilizations."

Spike stared kind of blankly, "Well, I got some of that, but I still don’t know much of where dragons here come from. I mean, would I have come from the dragon realms?"

Spyro sighed, "I don't know, Dragon history isn't very... vast. We only know of events from a couple hundred years ago, and hardly any from before we only resided in the Dragon realms."

Spike sighed with Spyro now, "Well, that’s disappointing, do you all not record anything or what?"

"The entire race lost everything when the Sorceress blocked us from the rest of our world. Records, treasure, all of that. Luckily, our side had plenty of resources itself, and some Dragon's are conservative enough to make even desert areas livable." explained Spyro, "At least that's what I'm told. As I explained to Twilight earlier, I played a key role in reuniting our side with the old lands on the other side of the world. I actually hope some old history comes up."

"Well, it's good to here your dragons are much more mannered..." said Spike, "The dragons we have seen in Equestria are mostly brutes and jerks..."

"Hmm..." mumbled Spyro, "What did they do to be such jerks?"

Spike grumbled, "Well over the years, they have basically hung around their own areas hoarding treasure like a bunch of greedy jerks. But when they encounter ponies, they just take! Greedy as heck..." Spike stopped for a moment, thinking about his... incident, "I'm not much different actually... But I control it."

"Must be different circumstance, perhaps they have it too good here." suggested Spyro, "Back at the Artisans, we have to worry about the productivity of farmers and all that, cause we realize if the lot of us just took everything right away, there would be hardly anything to live off of... And we hoard, but we respect private property too much to steal from each other or other people." Spyro lied back, getting bored of the conversation as a whole, "But, I don't feel like talking about it much, that's for the older ones."

Spyro was now beginning to feel more anxious than usual, as the daylight outside beckoned to him. He didn’t usually spend too much time sitting around, unless the weather was bad, so staying in this library was really getting to him. He tried to lie down in a different position to get his mind of it, but the attempts were futile.

"Hey, is there any chance we can go outside?" he asked, staring out the window at the beautiful day.

Spike shrugged, "I'm not sure how the other ponies would react, but maybe not too bad since they are used to me, as long as you don't try to eat anyone..."

Spyro laughed, "Dragons have a code on nobility to not eat anything that can communicate with us."

"Yeah, that makes sense."

Spyro smirked, "But, we can chew them in self defense, just don't swallow."

The two dragons laughed, as Twilight came back downstairs, "It appears you two are hitting it off well."

"Yup." said Spike.

"I was just discussing with spike that it is wrong to eat ponies, but okay to chew them, in self defense." said Spyro.

Twilight giggled, "Well, I have to go meet with Applejack at her farm here. You can stay here or come with me if you wa-"

Spyro cut Twilight off as he and Sparx jumped up, "I’ll come with you! I mean, so I can observe that you all are actually vegetarians. I see a sheep and I will call slave labor."

Spyro knew the irony of his statement, considering the creature Dragons most loved to eat, but decided to keep it to himself.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

The stroll through town was interesting for Spyro and some of the bystanding ponies. Many different looking ponies, of different colors and sizes, roamed around the town. Spyro also quickly noticed that they seemed to be either unicorns, pegasi, or average ponies.

In general, the town felt a little familiar to where Spyro was from, likely based on the fact the land also looked similar as well. It was likely a lot of business came here for farms and such, which would make sense since he was going to one. However, it was lacking a bit of something, adventure, yes, it was lacking adventure.

Currently, he stuck close to Twilight and Spike, letting his eyes wander but trying not to stare at any specific pony for too long. It appeared the townsfolk spared the same courtesy when looking at him.

“Well they all seem to be tolerant of unusual creatures roaming around.” Said Spyro.

“It’s probably partly because you're with Twilight,” Responded Spike, “They readily assume the Princess's student is up to some sort of magic training or other endeavor. Well, that and they’ve gotten used to me pretty quickly.”

“There will probably still be rumors, but luckily they never turn out too nasty.” said Twilight.

Spyro smiled a bit, “Reminds me of the first time I was in Avalar, though they were having immediate troubles at the time. If any of the people were uncomfortable with me to begin with, they couldn’t argue with how I was dealing with all their sudden problems.”

“You sound like you have a bit of a big head.” said Spike, “It’s just the way you're always talking about fixing things for others before.”

“What? Do you expect me to first talk about my bad behaviors with all the beings of this new land I abruptly end up in?” Replied Spyro, chuckling slightly, “Propaganda one-o-one clearly states you avoid the scandals until you already have a cult of people who will agree with whatever you say.”

“Where’d you learn that?” Asked Twilight, as the group started on a path out toward sweet apple acres.

“The Sorceress’s scrolls. She had a lot of stuff written down in some book called the prince on influencing all sorts of groups, probably to control her slaves, I mean citizens.” Replied Spyro.

The trio chuckled, as they headed down the path and up toward the Apple Family Farm. Spyro gazed over the massive orchard, realizing it must have been planted over a long period of time. The air smelled especially fresh here as well, while the afternoon sun warmed things up from their prior morning temperatures. All this combined to make Spyro really want to get froloking around and have a true adventure.

“Alright,” started Twilight, “Just up here is where Applejack lives. I think Rainbow Dash was also planning on hanging around here too.”

Spyro walked up to the gate, and looked around the farm. Pigs was one of the first things he noticed, though he never really liked pigs, he was rather confused as to why ponies had them around. Sparx quickly took to admiring the tasty looking butterflies nearby, mouth metaphorically watering.

“So Applejack, and Rainbow Splash is their names?” asked Spyro.

“It’s Rainbow Dash!” Said Rainbow Dash, as she hovered above Twilight, Spike and Spyro.

Spyro spat a bit of flame and turned up real quick in an attack position. He then noticed it was the skittle pony, so he took a deep breath and calmed down. For a second he was shot back to the high cave's, being caught unsuspectedly from behind by one of those metal bugs.

“You alright?” asked Twilight, noticing Spyro was a bit shaken.

“Yeah, I just REALLY hate surprises like that..” Said Spyro, as he looked up to Rainbow Dash, “But I hold no grudge.”

Rainbow Dash landed next to Spyro, “So It looks like you're feeling better pal, aside from being so jumpy and charring the fence…”

“Well yes, I do feel better. I'm Spyro by the way.” said Spyro holding out his claw.

Rainbow Dash shook Spyro’s claw, “Rainbow Dash, best flyer in Equestria!”

“That makes two of us with big heads.” Said Spyro chuckling.

“What? Big head? Pfft!” Said Rainbow Dash a bit sarcastically.

“Rainbow! Where’s Applejack?” asked Twilight.

Suddenly, Applejack came around the barn with Winona. In noticing the group, she immediately smiled and headed over. Spyro could immediately see the resemblance from her and other farmers he had run into, the more... cultured ones, unlike the shepherds from his home.

“Hello Twilight, Spike, Spyro is it?” said Applejack, shaking Spyro's claw.

“You remembered it.” replied Spyro, “So you're the farmer?”

“Yessir!” Replied Applejack, “Mah family has provided the best quality apples for Equestria since the founding of Ponyville!”

The accent was very noticeable, but at least it wasn’t too thick to understand. That and she seamed to have her head screwed on tighter than some of the redneck types he met.

“So yah want to come inside and have some lunch?” asked Applejack.

Spyro cocked his head a bit, “Eeehh… I was hoping to get some outside time for a bit first.”

“That’s mighty fine, me and Twilight will just go inside and help Granny Smith set up the table.” said Applejack.
Twilight began to follow Applejack in, Spike following suit, as she turned around, “Just make sure you don’t break anything Spyro, or wear yourself out too much!”

As Twilight went inside, Rainbow Dash came up beside Spyro, smirking while thinking of her favorite pass time, “So you have wings, can you fly?”

“Well, Dragons can’t really get a full hand of flying until they are about twenty. But with boosts of magic energy or jumping off a ledge, I can fly pretty well.” Replied Spyro, “I assume you’re wanting a race?”

Rainbow Dash smirked, “You just read my mind! I haven’t raced a Dragon before, but i’m pretty confident.”

“Well, this should be interesting for the both of us. Where shall we start?” asked Spyro.

Rainbow smirked wider as she took to the air, “Grab onto me, I'll take us up nice and high.”

Spyro held out his claws, as Rainbow Dash quickly picked him up with her right fore leg. Spyro hung on tight, as Sparx followed them up higher and higher. Eventually, she began to slow down, and landed on a cloud, far about the farm.

“They all look like toys, don’t they?” Said Rainbow Dash, “Why don’t you let go now?”

Spyro replied, “Well apparently you can sit on clouds, but I would fall right through, I know this from experience... Maybe I can hover for a bit…”

Spyro took a breath, and jumped from Rainbow Dash, Fluttering his wings consistently, managing to stay above the cloud. Spyro actually has been getting better at the flying business with the activity he's been doing, and he figured beating this skittle-pony shouldn't be too hard compared to planes.

“Alright dragon,” started Rainbow Dash, “We will fly over above the town their, then circle around and dive towards the farm. First one to the farmyard wins, the orchard doesn’t count because it is across half of our track. You up to it?”

Spyro eyed the route, keeping himself half focused on staying in place, “You got it! Sparx, hang on tight!”

Sparx the dragonfly landed on Spyro’s head between his horns, hanging on rather tight for a bug.

“Alright!” started Rainow, as the two readied for the start, “Three, two, one… GO!”

Rainbow Dash immediately jumped off the cloud and dived to gain speed. Spyro thrusted himself forward and also dived a ways, gaining speed but not as much as Rainbow Dash. The two had a good handle of their flight already, as they flew toward the towns at speeds beginning to reach 50 miles per hour.

Wind blew by them fast, as the two speed up more. In a few seconds, they were right by the town, so Rainbow Dash began flying back up, maintaining a good speed. Spyro leveled out, then began to get higher as he turned hard.

Rainbow did a full loop around at high speed, as Spyro came off his turn then did a thust forward and spun with more speed, getting just below Rainbow Dash as they dived at a downward angle toward Sweet Apple Acres. Things where still speeding up, as Rainbow Dash was beginning to gain notable speed as the were almost over the apple trees. Looking up at Rainbow, Spyro put each of his claws and his wings and pulled them back closer to his tail, increasing his speed.

They were still high above the ground yet near their location, so Spyro dived further, hoping to pull out his wings and break his fall on a loop before crashing. Rainbow Dash however, determining to get ahead of him, dived at a faster and faster rate.

“Is she mad?!” exclaimed Spyro, thinking she was sure to burry straight into the ground, with only her look of determination suggesting otherwise.

Suddenly, Spyro looked up in astonishment, as Rainbow Dash passed him, with colors beginning to emanate around her. He began to try and get a bit faster, but was distracted by Rainbow Dash speeding more and more.

“SHE’S GONNA CRASH!” yelled Spyro, as he and Sparx looked forward in astonishment.

Suddenly, about 40 feet above the farm itself, Rainbow Dash burst into a Sonic Rainboom, blasting herself into the air in a loop. Spyro’s mouth gapped, and his eyes widened, when suddenly the wave knocking him off his course and he tumbled out of speed.

Regaining his flight slightly, he broke out his wings in a parachute like manner just before crashing into the trees, and landed on top one, a few meters from their destination. Before he could think again, Rainbow swooped down to the farm, and landed in a skid by the house, with a wide smile on her face.

“Holy Clank…” said Spyro, eyes wide, as Sparx lifted himself into the air, “What was that?!?!”

Rainbow Dash flew up to the tree Spyro was in, “Sonic Rainboom, really hard to pull off, very rewarding.”

Spyro looked around for a second in thought, “Well, you won… maybe you can teach me that sometime…”

It was that moment, Spyro realized this particular race appeared to have more ability to be generally awesome than he first thought. Perhaps he would like company from the ponies when face the black dragon he has heard about.

“RAINBOW DASH!” yelled Twilight, “I thought I said no Sonic Rainbooms that close to town!”

Author's Note

Alright! I hath edited this chapter to be much more pretty too look at.

In case your wondering, I am figuring Spyro's character, after all his adventures so far, may have a few "bugs".

PS: Arsenals and Clank, what does that reference?
