Whisked away: Chapter 8: Revelations

Felix rushed back through the forest, aware that he was being followed. By who or what, he wasn't sure. But he knew that he didn't have the energy or focus to deal with whatever it was. It's been at least a day since I last slept. Felix noted. He continued along the barely visible forest path.

A lound snap! behind Felix made him jump. He quickly whirled around, but to no avail. his pursuer had already disappeared. I don't like this. Felix thought. Who's following me? He continued, uneasy now that he was positive that someone, or something, was following him.

He made it out of the forest without further interruption. Queen Chrysalis was sitting in the clearing, acting as if nothing had happened. She noticed him instantly. "You're finally back!" She cheered in her sly voice. "You did well, young one."

Felix sighed. "Well, I killed a cockatrice. What's next?" Queen Chrysalis opened her mouth to reply, only to be interrupted by a gasp at the edge of the clearing. Rainbow Dash was standing there. "I knew it!" She yelled. Dash ran off before any conversation could be made. Felix felt a chill go up his spine. Well, now it's official. They're bound to know I was working for Chrysalis eventually, but, now... He slowly shook his head. Suddenly something dawned on him. "Queen Chrysalis, do you know why the ponies hate me?" Felix asked. The changeling queen took her time in responding. "Of course, boy. A different one of your species showed up in this world about a week before you. It went absolutely crazy, killed quite a few ponies. Oh, but poor Daisy got what was coming for her." She replied.

Felix's blood went cold.

The only reason nobody trusts me is because one of my kind killed others? That's why the crusaders are so afraid of me...

"Is that the only reason?" Felix inquired. "I assume you defeating young Rainbow destroyed any hope that you might be peaceful." Chrysalis told him. "But there's no reason to worry. Because you're with me now." She finished.

Well, isn't that just lovely.

Felix settled down for the night in a nearby cave. Chrysalis had sent him off on another mission, deeming he was "Truly loyal to her." Felix sighed as sleep washed over his consiousness. He awoke just before the moon set. I'm starving. I  should make a quick stop by sweet apple acres, try to steal some apples. Felix's conscience kicked in. Steal? Apples? From Applejack? Why am I resorting to this? Felix realized that his stay in Equestria had changed him. And whatever happened to the last human that came here? Felix had too many questions, and no answers. At this rate the sun will be at it's peak before I have even started! He shook off the last of his doubt as he made his way to ponyville.

Felix managed to steal enough apples to satisfy his appetite. He passed by the small creek he had used to initally escape Rainbow. Felix stopped and looked into his reflection. He knew his reflection well, as most people do. But what he saw today was a viscous reminder of what his new life in Equestria was like. His clothes were torn, and he was covered in small scabs. Dirt was smeared across his face and arms, and, as he loooked closer, he could swear he saw a haunted look in his eyes.

What have I become?

Felix washed most of the dirt off, but he found it was getting harder and harder to stay focused on his task. Chrysalis didn't even tell me what to do. She just told me where to go, saying "You'll know what to do." Yeah, right.

A sudden scream interrupted his thoughts. Did someone find me? Felix thought, wildly glancing around. The scream had come just over the hill from where he was. Wait. That voice... Was that Fluttershy? He rushed over the hill, wondering the possibilites of what it might be. Maybe the other human? Felix made it to the top and looked down at the scene unfolding below him.

It was indeed Fluttershy, who was cowering at the base of some rocks that edged the bottom of the hill. A snarling wolf had her cornered. I'd rather not get involved, but I can't just leave her like this! Felix thought desperately. He looked once again at the knife Chrysalis gave him. I haven't changed. I'm still me. I need to do something. Felix decided. he sprinted down the hill and landed beween Fluttershy and the wolf. He raised the knife. "You'll touch her over my dead body!" Felix shouted at the beast. It seemed uneasy now that it was outnumbered, but it lasted no more than a second.

The wolf lunged and bit into Felix's wrist. He supressed a cry of pain and swung the knife at the it. The wolf leapt away nimbly before his weapon met it's mark. Focus. Wait for it to let it's guard down. The wolf lunged again. everything appeared to be moving in slow motion. Felix's timing was perfect. He watched as the dark blade dissapeared into the carnivores's neck. It's body crashed into Felix, toppling him over. The wolf's eyes slowly glazed over. Felix had won.

Remembering Fluttershy, Felix pushed off the wolf's body and retreived his weapon. He turned to Fluttershy, and she was still cowering at the base of the rock. Felix made his way over to her. She looked up at him in fear. he crouched and put his knife on the ground. "I'm not going to hurt you." He gently whispered to her. She looked up, curiosity overcoming her fear. Fluttershy stood a few seconds later, building up enough courage to say "Th-thank you mister." Felix smiled. "You should get home before anything else shows up." He told her. She nodded and began to slowly walk away casting glances at him over her shoulder as she left.

Felix's heart felt lighter than it had in days.
