Chapters It was a warm and sunny day in Ponyville. All of the ponies were doing their usuall thing, wether it be Derpy messing up another mail order, or seeing a few clouds that Rainbow Dash missed. Fluttershy was just waking up at 8:03 A.M. from her peaceful slumber when she realized she was up a few minutes later than usual. She shrugged and continued on with her day as normal. She fed the animals their breakfast, Angel the bunny threw a carrot at her and broke a cup. She wasn't too happy about that. Fluttershy then tended to the lush vegetable garden in the back of her yard. It was about 11:00 A.M. When she finished, and decided to take a walk in the valleys by the Everfree forest.
She had noticed that the Daffodils were just blooming, it being Spring and all. She bent over to sniff it and she heard a squeak, but it wasn't from her. Instead it was from the Stallion behind her. She then realized that she was probably in someone's back yard, so she turned around quickly and said shyly "I-I'm sorry... I didn't m-mean to trespass..." And then she stopped to see me, a Stallion with a dark brown coat and night blue mane. My cutie mark is a red plus sign, like what a paramedic has, with a pink heart behind it. My eyes are blue as the night, with a sparkle to them. I had on my brown leather saddlebag. I said to Fluttershy "I'm so sorry to scare you like that... It's just that you seemed to like those daffodils. I'm Soft Stitch by the way." Fluttershy started to get less scared as she looked up from her hooves and said "I'm Fluttershy." "Nice to meet you, Fluttershy," I replied. I then asked if she would like to take some of the sprouts so she could have her own daffodils, and she accepted them. I offered to plant them at her house, and she agreed. So we set off to her house.
When we got there, I pulled a shovel out of my saddlebag and started working. A few minutes later and there were a few young plants in the front of her yard, as asked. Fluttershy walked up to me and started to say "Thank you," but she stopped at "Thank," and looked at me with a dazed look on her face. I quickly realized that we were both blushing a lot, so I said "Goodbye" and headed home. When I got to my house in the valley, all I could think about was that pink-maned pegasus. So I took it upon myself to visit her every day after work.
The next morning I awoke from my straw bed and went to the kitchen. My house is one story, four rooms, and outdoor restroom, so it's not as luxurious as some of the houses like Fluttershy's. It's simple, with a countertop, chairs, and a sink, but that's not important. I would live like this, no matter what I have. So I got ready to go to the library because Spike has a fever.
I began my route to Ponyville, and passing by Fluttershy's house. You could hear her sing her usual songs as she did her morning routine. I was at the door of the library and Twilight Sparkle practically jumped out of the door at me. She said to me "Thank goodness you're here, I think that he's dying." I noticed that she was extremely overreacting because Spike was sitting up on her couch, sipping tea, and occasionally coughing. Not dying. So I said to her "Calm down, he just has a fever. A little bit of Tylenol and some rest, and he'll be good as new tomorrow." So I gave him the pill, Twilight said "Thanks," and I started home to wait for another house call.
Fluttershy just got done with feeding the ferrets when she saw me walking along the dirt road to my house. She stopped her work and started following me by flying behind me without being noticed. When I reached my house, I just noticed that I was being followed, so I turned around as fast as I could, ready to give a big swing. I soon realized that it was just the beautiful Pegasus named Fluttershy. She said to me " I didn't mean to be a snoopy pony..... but I wanted to see you again." I said to her "Okay, come in for some tea ... if you want to."
I took my saddlebag off and started boiling the tea. We were sitting in my living room next to the window and she was sipping on her tea quietly when I asked her "So, how was your day?" Fluttershy then began telling me what she was doing this morning, about the carrot that her pet rabbit, Angel, threw and broke a cup, and everything up till she was following me. I was nodding my head and saying what was propriate for the situation. I was talking very little compared to how much Fluttershy was, and I really don't mind. I know that she is usually timid and nervous, but around me, she's a loving spirit that talks a lot around me. I then in turn told her about my visit with Spike at the library, and hearing her sing. Fluttershy blushed when I tried to compliment her, and kept telling me "Oh was it that good? I didn't think it was." and I said to her "Don't be so modest. You have a beautiful voice." I began to turn crimson on my cheeks. A long, awkward silence lasted a few minutes between us, and Fluttershy finally broke the silence. "It's getting dark, and I need to tuck Angel in. Would you mind walking me home?" I stood there for a minute and said "I wouldn't rather do anything else."
That night I couldn't sleep. I just laid down and looked up at the ceiling, thinking about the sweetest, most beautiful pony I've ever seen. I actually think that I might have a serious crush on the pink maned Pegasus, and I'm going to tell her tomorrow. So I just acted out how it was going to happen all night until I finally fell asleep at about 2 in the morning.
The next morning, I was up boiling oats, getting ready for the next day when a walleyed mail woman showed up at my door, with a letter for me. It was from Fluttershy! I opened the letter and it said this:
Dear Soft Stitch,
I hate to bother you in the early hours of the morning, but I'm sure that you're awake already. I was wondering if you wanted to come over here to join me in the annual Butterfly Migration, since Rainbow Dash couldn't attend. Not that I wouldn't invite you as well if she came along, that is. Please bring something warm to wear, so you don't catch a cold.
Sincerely yours,
Fluttershy
I read the note twice over to make sure that this was real. A "date" with Fluttershy! What could be better that this? Celestia herself couldn't bring more joy to the entire land of Equestria that compares to what I'm experiencing right now. That whole day, I just waited to see if anyone was going to call me, and no one did, which added to the anticipation of the afternoon that was about to take place. It was about 5 minutes to 5 o' clock and I was about to put my sweater on when suddenly the phone rang. I walked over to the phone and picked it up. It was Fluttershy. She said "Did you accept my invitation? You don't have to go if you don't want to." I told her "I wouldn't miss it for the world. I was just about to go out anyways. I'll see you when I get there." "Oh, okay. Goodbye then, Soft Stitch." "Goodbye, Fluttershy," I said. I put on my sweater, grabbed my saddlebag, and was out the door heading to Fluttershy's cottage.
When I arrived, she was sitting on the front porch wearing a brown sweater with a few birds on the top of her head, singing a beautiful melody. I decided it was best not to call out her name, because I would scare the birds. So I silently walked up to her front porch, and the birds didn't notice. Fluttershy was resting her eyes, so I gently poked her. She did the most adorable squeaking sound you could ever utter, and leaped behind me. I was confused because I was the one who poked her, and she still chose to hide behind me. I realized that Fluttershy was terrified, so I said to her "Are you alright? I didn't mean to scare you." She calmed down after a moment and said "Oh, I'm alright. I just didn't expect you here this soon." And with that, we were off to the spot.
It was a dug out trench with a few burn spots that was apparently from a baby dragon named Spike. We were sitting on a few logs that I decided to bring along to use as chairs. Not the best thing I thought, but what else did we need. It was starting, and man was it beautiful. Monarch butterflies were everywhere. Purples and blues, reds and pinks, oranges and greens, everywhere you could just see every color imaginable. Fluttershy says to me "This is beautiful don't you think?" Okay, I thought. My time to confess to her. So I sucked up all of my courage and replied "Not as beautiful as you." I blushed, and she did too as she just watched me look away at the ground somewhere. I thought 'What if she didn't want a relationship with me besides friends? What if she doesn't want to be my friend anymore? What if she doesn't-' And I stopped thinking as I looked down and saw a canary yellow Pegasus' lips touching my own. The emotions going through my head were confusion, and then pure joy. And then it hit me. I want to be with this Pegasus for the rest of my life.
We were just standing now, looking at the ground away from each other. The migration was over now, and we had just finished getting the trench cleaned up. Our cheeks redder than apples from Sweet Apple Acres, and I was just lost in my thoughts. She finally broke the silence, "Soft Stitch, do you want to do this again sometimes?" I looked at her with my most caring expression and said "There's nothing I'd rather be doing. How about tomorrow at 6:00 P.M.?" She replied "Oh.... that sounds nice. Thank you." So I walked her back to her lovely cottage, only to be greeted by a bite from her favorite pet, Angel. For some reason, it reminded me of a time back in the war and began to remember it. It was back in the warmer months where all of the soldiers began cutting the sleeves off to cool ourselves down. I was sitting in our trench when suddenly shots rang off and one of them went through the ground and nicked me in the ankle. It stopped bleeding, but it burned like a fire.
I suddenly snapped out of it and Fluttershy was looking at me with a worried look and said "Are you alright? That scared me for a minute, there." I said to her "I didn't mean to scare you, it's just that your pet reminded me of some memories.... " So she walked into her cottage and almost closed the door until she looked outside and noticed how dark it is outside, and she became frightened for me, so she offered "W-would you like to c-come in? It's awful dark outside, and it's dangerous at night. I took barely a millisecond to think about it and said "There's nothing I'd rather do."
The inside of her cottage is built for a small Pegasus animal caretaker, and not a larger pony such as myself. It felt as if I was going to break anything I touched. So I was as cautious as possible. Fluttershy gestured me to her own bed, and I was confused. So I asked her "Where are you gonna sleep?" She again pointed to her bed and I blushed a lot. 'Was she thinking of her and I sleeping in the same bed?' I never knew she liked me in that way. I began to sweat on my forehead as she assured me that it was just the matter of not having another cot for me to rest on. 'I'll get one for her,' I thought in my head. So we both headed into the room and closed the door...
My Little Story 2
At about 6:00 A.M. I awoke, noticing birds chirped and squirrels chattered amongst themselves. I also noticed how this wasn't my simple home, either. I slowly rose out of the small bed and noticed the small Pegasus of my dreams sleeping soundly. It was the most adorable thing I've ever seen in my life. Fluttershy rolled onto her side and realized I wasn't there anymore. She woke up with a high pitched yawn that turned my les to jelly. It was just too adorable. Fluttershy looked up at me and I looked back with a small smile.
We just sat there staring for a few moments and she broke the silence. "I wish this didn't have to end." "Me neither," I replied. "How about we go for a walk by the Everfree forest tomorrow?" She nodded and said goodbye as I left for my home. 'Oh man, what a night! I got to stay the night with the sweetest, most beautiful mare in Equestria.
I went to my home and grabbed my things for today's visit to Spike's house because Twilight is still worried about Spike. She's really knowledgeable, so how come she's worried over a small fever? It beats me, so this visit's free of charge. I arrived at Twilight's treehouse and see that Spike's fever broke, just like I said. Twilight tried to pay me for the visit, and I respectfully declined. It's not her fault for me not being able to convince her of the well being of her younger brother. So I said goodbye and continued on with the rest of my house visits.
For the rest of my work day, I just kept replaying the entire night with Fluttershy in my mind. It was just perfect. And I can't wait until after work to see her again. After Twilight's visit, I went to Nurse Redheart's workplace to volunteer at the local hospital where I saw Fluttershy's friend, Rainbow Dash who had broken wings. I said to her "This happens way too often for you, Miss Dash." I grabbed her right wing and set it back in place, and on cue, she started to cry. "There there, it's almost over. Just one more wing and you'll be ready for healing." I then grabbed her left wing and snapped it back in place. And man, did she start to cry then. She had geysers coming out of her eyeballs, similar to a cartoon. I don't cry, so this was extremely out of the ordinary for me.
So I walked her to a hospital bed and gave her some pain medication to last a week. But before I left, Rainbow Dash said "Hold on, Romeo. Before you leave, I wanna know what's going on between you and Fluttershy." I swallowed hard and slowly turned around. We haven't told each other about our meetings, since Rainbow Dash never came with us to the Migration. I thought it was best she knowledge the truth, so I told her "... Fluttershy and I have been getting together often." I didn't tell Rainbow Dash all of the truth, but I believe she filled in the rest.
So I then went home, seeing that there were no other patients in Ponyville's hospital. A while passed, and I made a cup of hot tea to drink before my walk with Fluttershy, and my mind started to wander off about thoughts of her. How she was so beautiful and adorable and other positive adjectives.
I then began to look at the wall. I don't know why, because there's nothing on that wall, but something's gonna happen involving that. And sure enough, the mail pony Derpy Hooves smashes through the wall, and the scent of banana nut muffins was all around her. I wasn't mad, oh no. I was furious. But I didn't yell, I just punched a hole right through the remaining panel of the wall. Derpy saw this act of pure rage and frantically started apologizing. "I just don't know what went wrong," she said. I began to reassure her that I wasn't going to do anything to her, and all of the damages would be taken care of. But Derpy insisted on me having one of her world-famous muffins. I thought for a moment, and said "sure, I'd love one." She didn't know I dislike baked goods, but it was a kind gesture.
I was on my way to Fluttershy's cottage with a small grin on my face, humming a tune that got stuck in my head a while back. Fluttershy was on the porch, waiting for my arrival. I said "Hello" to her, and she returned the welcome. Without many words, we began the walk along the edges of the Everfree Forest. I didn't mind all of the unnatural things in there, but Fluttershy would huddle close to my side every time she heard a noise. I didn't mind it at all. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't mind it if she did this more often. It made me feel as if I was to protect her for the rest of her life. Like her own personal guard.
Fluttershy stopped at a shady tree and said "Let's stop here for a moment." I agreed, and we both laid down in the shade to cool off. A while passed and I swore I heard that same yawn from this morning. I thought to myself 'it couldn't be,' but sure enough, there was Fluttershy, sleeping like a filly next to me. And sure enough, it was just too cute to handle. I didn't fall asleep, but for the next hour, I was at true peace. Something that was unattainable back in the war. That was some serious business for a medic. But I would do it again for this mare.
She woke up about fifteen minutes later, with a blissful look on her face. I smiled at her, and she smiled back. So we began the next half of the walk back to her cottage. Little did we know that a certain pink earth pony, accompanied by a white unicorn, who were watching us the entire time...
"See? I told you," said Pinkie Pie. Rarity was just stunned. Fluttershy got a a colt friend of her own without telling her, Fluttershy's best friend! "I'll have to ask her about him at the spa tomorrow," said Rarity. The two were so enticed at how open Fluttershy is to me because she's usually so shy and timid towards everyone, even her five best friends. Rarity decided it was best not to look over them too long, for other ponies gathered around the park as well and she didn't want them to hear private affairs. So Rarity and Pinkie Pie went to the Carousel Boutique to discuss the matter over some tea.
At about late, when the sun was going down, we arrived at Fluttershy's cottage and I said "goodbye" to her, even though I wanted to stay longer. It really is the hardest part saying goodbye. So I thought to myself, 'what could I do for her in the meantime? Aha! I'll get her that cot I promised as a gift to her. It's not much, but I'm sure it would be appreciated. So I took a trip to the Ponyville mattress shop and got a "deluxe comfort" model fold-up bed. I took it home for now and would give it to her tomorrow.
Now there's one more errand I have to run before I retire for the night; to check up on my most recent patient, Rainbow Dash. I ran over the the Ponyville Hospital where she currently resides, for now, to find she's reading a novel with great interest. As a matter of fact, she didn't even notice me enter, not that I made a great noise or anything. I looked at her chart, and reports showed that her pain went down greatly, just as I though it would.
I asked her "What book is that, Miss Dash?" She rapidly looked up at me, and then hid the book under her sheets, like evidence from a crime. She told me "What book? I wasn't reading a book. That's for eggheads." I gave her a look of pure sincerity, and she understood I wouldn't make fun of her for reading. So she said "Daring Doo and the Sapphire Stone, Stitch." Did she just use my name? I don't know, but I made a mental note to get it for her after she heals up, which should be within a few days.
So I left the hospital for the night, and began my trip home. When I got there, I just realized that three fourths of my wall was gone, and the remaining section had a big hole in the middle of it. I half-eyed it and fell on my bed, falling into a deep sleep.
My Little Story 3
It was that day of the week that Rarity and Fluttershy meet together at the spa, and they were just walking in. Fluttershy placed down some bits, and stood next to the steam room, eager to get this done quickly so she wouldn't have to answer questions, which were bound to come up. So Aloe and Lotus came along and began their weekly treatment, starting with a bath.
Not good, Fluttershy thought. This meant that there would be a lot of time before Aloe and Lotus got back, which meant- "So Fluttershy..." Oh dear, too late. "Who's this new stallion I've heard you've been meeting? Rainbow Dash was just telling me about it the other day and I've been dying to know." "W-well, his name is Soft Stitch, and we met a f-few days ago," said Fluttershy. "Really? Tell me more about this Soft Stitch fellow." Fluttershy thought for a moment, and finally decided to come clean. "Well, he's a house doctor who also volunteers at the Ponyville Hospital. That's how he met Rainbow Dash. I ran into him while looking at some flowers, and we kind of just... Connected." Rarity squealed in delight. "Yay, my dearest friend finally has a special somepony!"
I was checking up on Ms. Dash because Nurse Redheart called me in and said she was wailing and crying all over the place. I came in to her room and there she was, crying just as hard as when she first broke it. "What's wrong?" I said. " "I-I bu-bu-bumped it on t-t-the chair!" Rainbow Dash was in a fit of tears, so I did what anyone would. I held her tight and kept whispering that everything's gonna be alright. After a while, she calmed down. Sure, it would be a real pain for others, but that's what I do. She said "Thank you" to me, and I asked her to be a little ore careful with the wings. So I checked out of the Hospital, and went on my merry way.
While walking along the road leading to Sugarcube Corner I saw Pinkie Pie, one of Fluttershy's friends. So I took it upon myself to become acquainted with her, might be better now than later. So I trotted over to Sugarcube Corner, and entered. But what happened next was completely unexpected. Someone rammed right into my back, and when I turned around, it was Rainbow Dash once again. I was very puzzled by this and asked her "What are you doing out of the Hospital?" She stopped for a moment, and then realized what she came for. "I just wanted you to know that I really really appreciated what you did back there. You're a really nice guy, and I just wanted you to know that... I really like you."
Oh my word. Did I just hear Rainbow Dash say that she likes me? I must be hearing wrong. "What did you say?" And yet again she said "I-like you?" My entire world just stood still. How could Rainbow Dash do this, even though she knows that I'm dating Fluttershy? "I'm so confused right now. You mean you like me as a friend, right?" Rainbow Dash slowly shook her head 'no' and at that moment, I got so... mad! I wanted to just destroy everything in sight, so I took off in the direction of my house faster than Rainbow Dash ever could. I grabbed my axe once I was home and started annihilating the nearest tree. It barely took eight swings, but I didn't stop. I kept hitting it and hitting it until the tree was nothing but a pile of sawdust. And then I turned around to see Rainbow Dash with a look of complete and utter fear on her face. She must've followed me here after I took off.
I turned around and said "I'm sorry you had to see me in that state of pure anger. I can't imagine what you're going through right now, and I'm sorry." Then Rainbow Dash said "I'm so sorry for the way I acted. If I would've known this is how you would react, I wouldn't have said it. It's just you're so nice and gentle and strong, I thought we could... You know... Date." I just stood there for a while, axe in hoof, and thought what I was gonna say. I like Fluttershy a lot, but I don't want to hurt others' feelings because of it. What to do, what to do? And then Fluttershy walked outside. "What are you two doing out here?" "I heard loud noises out here," Fluttershy said.
I couldn't lie to her, but she might be hurt if I told her the entire truth. Think Stitch, think. "Just um showing Rainbow Dash how to split wood, that's all." "Oh, okay," said Fluttershy. "May I watch as well?" "Of course." So I chopped up yet another tree, in a less aggressive manner, for the amusement of my company. "How do you do it so fast," the both of them asked. "Just been doing it a long time is all." Good one, that should buy me some time to think of an excuse to leave. "Fluttershy, I'd love to stay and talk, but I have a house call at Berry Punch's house. Feel free to help yourselves to the refreshments in my kitchen." And then I left like a bullet for the nearest hiding spot.
Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy arrived at my front door and realized that it would be easier to go through the missing hole than a locked front door. "Did he do this?" asked Fluttershy. "Wouldn't doubt it, a stallion of his size could break nearly anything," Rainbow Dash replied. They went in, drank tea, and ate random baked goods until something struck Fluttershy. Why wasn't she invited to watch Soft Stitch first? "Rainbow Dash." "Yes Fluttershy?" said Rainbow Dash. "We're you two really just cutting wood back in the forest?" Rainbow Dash was silent for a few moments. "Ugh, no. I actually told him that I..." Fluttershy couldn't hear the last part. "Come again?" And again, Rainbow Dash said "I told him that I lo..." "One more time, please." Rainbow Dash finally burst out "I told him I love him!"
Rainbow Dash flew off in a burst of emotions and a realization that she might've just lost a friend. Fluttershy on the other hand, was in an abyss of despair, betrayal, and overall sadness as Fluttershy just witnessed her best friend try to steal Soft Stitch from her. She ran into her cottage and cried deeply to herself for many hours, while on the other side I was in a world of thought...
