Leaving Home (Prologue)

Load Full StoryNext Chapter

It was a very cold morning when I awoke. As I looked around my room, everything was packed away, I knew this would be my last day in Canterlot.

I went downstairs from my room to find my mother standing there, smiling, but in tears. I ran over to her and gave her a hug and said "Don't worry mom, I'll visit and send a lot of letters." I then smiled and almost started tearing up myself, but didn't.

She said "I remember when you were just a filly," still in tears. I said, "I'm going to go say my goodbyes.", then walked out the door.

I've always loved Canterlot, mostly because I have never been anywhere else. I stepped outside to see my carriage packed with all my things, which wasn't much considering I wanted to travel lightly. I said goodbye to most of the people in the city, as I was renowned for being the fastest flyer in Canterlot.

I flew back home and opened the front door to find my mother taking a nap on the couch. I didn't want to remind her of my leaving, so I left a note saying that I love her and that I will write to her soon. A tear dropped from my eye, I thought about my father who had died in the Griffin Wars. I remember the deep depression I fell into about him being taken from me. But I shook my head and said, "Nope, no depression for Lightning Cloud today!". My hired carriage was ready to leave, and I couldn’t waste time dwelling in the past.

I still don't know why I picked Ponyville. Maybe it was because I heard it was one of Wonberbolt’s favorite places to train, as there is a lot of room to practice various tricks. I smiled as we rode off, and I felt a sense of freedom, like I could finally experience life and live how I wanted to. I took one last look at Canterlot and muttered under my breath,  "Goodbye home, maybe we will cross paths again one day." As I smiled and looked forward to the horizon, I knew that the world had something in store for me, for better or for worse.
