Race Wars III:

Austin approached Fluttershy as she lay in the gutter sobbing. She had been crying since she shot that Annuniki, and once the APC had arrived at the extraction site, he had moved her to the side of the road, so she wouldn’t be in anyone’s way. “Hey, uh, Fluttershy, you don’t have to cry.” He was horrible with other’s feelings.

“Yes I do, I killed that poor creature…” She sobbed, by this point her eyes had became extremely reddened from crying.

“You did it to save me though, and that Annuniki isn’t a poor creature, it knew what it would be doing when joined it’s local legion, it knew it would be an aggressor seeking to destroy the infrastructure of other people. It deserves no mercy.” Austin said, trying to make her feel like her decision was justified.

“How can you talk? You’re a killer to, and you must have known what you signed up for.” Fluttershy’s words dug deep into Austin’s heart.

“Yes I knew I would be fighting in the bloodiest war in human history, I knew I would be killing other beings to protect the weak. Let’s just say the Annuniki made contact with your people, and said your options were either submit to an eternity of slavery, or be brutally killed until you choose option number one.” Austin said.

Fluttershy was taken aback by this question but answered as honestly as possible. “Well Equestria’s motto is love and tolerance, so we would negotiate some form of coexistence.”

“We tried that, we tried treating them as equals, we tried appeasing them, but their motto is supremacy and conquest, so we closed off communications, what we gave them next was fairly simple, a threat, ‘leave us, or you’ll have to kill every single last one of us, while we try to kill every single one of you, for our motto is freedom above all else!’ With in a minute they launched their invasion of our space, and began the systematic genocide of all living under the U.C.o.E. banner. Since then it’s been roughly 7 years of constant war, and the death toll for us is more than 300 billion.” Austin looked down to see Fluttershy hugging his leg and continuing to cry. “Ok, let’s get you on the Thunder, because if you stay behind your organs will be liquefied by the shockwave from the seismic impactor.

“The what?” Fluttershy asked snapping back to reality.

“Yeah let’s just get you on the ship, I have something to help to that end actually.” Austin said as he searched his rucksack, and he pulled out a thin silver cloak. “I looted this stealth cape off of some U.C.o.E. spec ops guy’s corpse, he thought he was real cool trying to take on an Annuniki juggernaut with just a knife.” He chuckled at the memory. “I swear, the inefficiency at the Canadian Armed Forces command is the best thing ever.” Noticing her confused look he explained. “There are too many soldiers for them to keep track of, so instead they just don’t bother, as a result, we can loot, violate uniform, and bull shit till our heart’s content.” Austin said, hoping that was a good enough explanation. “Now put it on, and press that button there.” Austin instructed.

She was invisible. “This is so amazing! I always wanted to be invisible. Oh thank you thank you thank you!” She said in a soft tone.

“Yeah yeah, now come on, I don’t want my organs liquefied.” Austin urged and the pair rushed into the landing bay of the Thunder.

Beneath the cloak Fluttershy’s eyes widened. This was all her sci-fi dreams come true, minus the genocidal aliens that is… “Wow..” She whispered as she rushed to keep up with Austin, she rushed by three parked Godslayers, at least 30 APCs and 40 tanks. The bay was even large enough for a few helicopters. Needless to say she was completely blown away.

Austin checked the radio to see if he was too late to maybe catch Langdon before he started his second shift on the radio, Langdon always had enough conection to get things like this to slide. “And that my friends was ‘Back in Black’ by ACDC. Now for the news, all objectives in our little beachhead of hell were achieved with relatively low casualties. Now we just need to drop a few mega tons of kinetic force on the trapped cruiser. So let’s get our asses out of here and do that! Now more music! Starting off with Smashing Pumpkin’s Bullet with Vampire wings.” The song began, Austin was late, oh well this just meant he could show Fluttershy around a bit. “Hey!” came a familiar voice from behind him.

“What! Langdon? But you’re! HOW?!” Austin said as he whirled around and found himself face to face with the dirty blonde.

“Yeah I had the whole thing recorded. I wasn’t kidding when I said I was turning this week into ‘Good Morning Vietnam’” He said as he took a step forward, then tripped over the invisible Fluttershy. “What the hell just did that?!” He exclaimed as he picked himself off the floor.

“Oh s-sorry… I didn’t mean to cause any harm, it’s just that-” Langdon got one look under the cloak and jumped to his feat.

“Ok! Our room. Now!” He commanded, and the three made their way though the multiple metal halls inside the Thunder to the barracks, where they made a few turns and arrived at their room. Once inside Langdon pulled out his P-TIMS (Personal-TIMS) and accessed the pictures. He madly scrolled, though them images then he stopped on one and his mouth dropped, he pulled Fluttershy’s cloak off looked back and forth between the two than showed Austin.

“Wow Fluttershy you look good in cartoon format!” Austin said; the two were identical.

“One problem, the show’s from 2010!” Langdon exclaimed. “By an chance is your name Fluttershy?” He asked, and she answered with a nod.

“Wait, how do you know about this show?” Austin asked.

“Well my grandpa was what they called a ‘brony’ back then, and he showed me some of the episodes on Youtube. So this means I’m going to have a lot less trouble convincing someone to make a fake ID, since they’ll just think it’s for a joke rather than for an actual person.” He summed up.

“Um is what we’re doing here illegal? Because I don’t want to burden you in anyway.” Fluttershy asked, worried that she was causing problems.

“Miss, you just snuck on board a state of the art military vestal, what part of that sounds legal, however what part of our conversation makes you think I care about that.” Langdon replied. “I gotta get back to my booth now, so Fluttershy can come with me, while someone needs to get out of our room, with his mud and gore covered combat boots.” Langdon said the last part through gritted teeth as he glared at his roommate’s footwear.

--

Once in his booth, Langdon went about announcing the operation’s casualties, and gave some general information, with his usual sarcastic banter strewn throughout.

Fluttershy however was staring out from under her cloak, through the sound proof glass window, that overlooked a hallway, which sported a larger window of 13 inch mortar proof glass, that gave an excellent view of the orbit above New Edmonton. It was beautiful, if you ignore the wreckage of ships from the recent orbital confrontation, that is.

“And now if you look any port window you should be able to see the seismic impactor getting hurled at the disabled cruiser. You may want to avoid direct eye contact with the impact site, since these things can get pretty bright.” Langdon commentated, and turned to watch the spectacle for himself. The battleship that had been blocking the cruiser’s exit, ejected a single metal rod about as thick as a hubcap, and as long as a flag pole, tungsten with a depleted uranium core, and propelled by the same type of ion rotunda that propels space fighters. He watched it desend, at full force one of those could break the tectonic plates of a planet, but for a simple cruiser, it was just dropped. There was an ungodly bright light on impact, and a clear dust storm swept across the planets surface. “Will that was the single best moment of my life so far, now how about some music?” He was answered with a loud alarm, and an address from the captain.

“Attention this is your captain speaking, sensors have indicated a submarine 5 minutes out, all personal, are to prepare for immanent internal and external contacts.” The alarm continued, and the blast shields were lowered over the windows.

For Fluttershy this was a nightmare, more violence, so soon after just leaving a combat zone? “Wh-what are we going to do?” Langdon answered the quivering mare by pulling his smg out of it’s holster and tossing her it. “What?! I can’t! Don’t you need it?” She asked in alarm, both out of fear of having to kill, and fear of Langdon being defenseless for her sake.

“That gun there would be great if I got trapped in the Cafeteria, but this is my booth, and therefore I get home field advantage!” he said as he reached under his desk, and pulled out an assault rifle, like Austin’s minus the grenade launcher and drum mag. However, it had a few additions, the base colour was a foresty green rather than grey, and it was adorned in scratched red lines. “I put parts from my grandpa’s C7-A2 assault rifle, and put them on my personal C28-A3 rifle. My grandpa was a in the colonial army, back when there was a separation between the colonial army, and the standard army.” He explained.

“I thought you had only been fighting the Annuniki for 7 years?” Fluttershy questioned.

“No back then we were fighting each other, my grandfather specifically fought during the Roamam Revolutions. We lost those wars, and as a result, we lost the Proxima Centuri System.” He further explained, when he was cut off by the sound of metal grinding and breaking. “We got company, stay low.” He instructed, and the sound of gunfire, and hot plasma bolts filled the air, there were heavy footsteps in the hall out side, Langdon pointed his rifle up towards the broadcast booth’s window, and found him self looking out on a squad on Annuniki.

--

Things were bad, he had just gotten changed into more casual wear, when the warning was given, and he had only gotten his rifle ready, His TIMS and his vest on when the attack began, he ended up killing two of the fucks with his pants around his knees. Now he was fighting the close quarters battle to re-secure the ship, with his pants up mind you! The job wasn’t to hard, word from the artillery deck was that the submarine (which is just slang for stealth corvette) had already been taken out. On top of that, the Annuniki had failed to secure anything but a few outer halls. What was bad was the fact that one of the sections that had yet to be secured was the radio broadcast wing.

After downing a few more Annuniki, he rushed down the hall to the radio section.

It was quiet, never a good sign. He walked to Langdon’s booth, and saw many Annuniki bodies, and the bodies of a few soldiers. However in the booth, he saw Langdon, casually making himself a cup of coffee, with his rifle in one hand. “What?! How?!” Was all Austin could ask.

“This rifle has been kicking ass since before you were born!” then motioning to Fluttershy who was crying over the body of an Annuniki, who judging by the entrance wounds she had downed. “She helped a too, but the real MVP was the auto turrets.” He said pointing at the LMGs that had folded down from the ceiling.

Austin simple sat down in the wreaked booth and sighed, then hearing other soldiers coming, pulled the cloak over Fluttershy.
