In the year 2085 CE, the Barrier emerged in the central Pacific. The energy released and force exerted in this event caused worldwide earthquakes and colossal tsunamis that halved the human population, and advanced climate change such that the sea levels have risen and reshaped the Earth as its inhabitants knew it. The Barrier continues to slowly expand, destroying and recreating all matter it contacts. However, the entities beyond the barrier are not completely isolated from humanity.

Communications are established through immaterial signals, and a plan is made by the people of a world whose death slowly but surely approaches and the people of a world that is expanding and fertile. Using a machine born from the fledgling science of metaphysical biology, the humans can convert a person's soul into a signal and send it forth cross the Barrier, where the Equestrians can provide a new vessel, in facilities known as Conversion Bureaus. Scientists looking for answers and men and women looking for a new home come every day, walking Equestria as "newfoals." Some seek to merely escape death or the cramped, ruined world Earth has become. Others seek something more.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: This has been sitting on my account for a while now. Broke 1000 words a while ago but I wanted to flesh things out more before publishing.
