Chapter 2: Father and Son in Law

Soarin woke up with Celestias sun hitting his face when he opened his eyes and then he suddenly shut them.  He moved his hoof to his side expecting Dash to be there but when he felt nothing but the bedsheets he moved his head towards there and he then sees that there is a note there.  He then reaches for it and starts to read it,

Dear Soarin,

Sorry for not waking you up but I needed to get to work and my dad wanted to talk to you so, hope you to have fun.  See you later.

Love, Dash

P.S. Thanks for coming.  I missed you a lot and what we did last night was amazing.

All Soairn could do is smile and after he threw away the paper he then took a quick shower and went downstairs to find Spectrum at the table with some pancakes and syrup.  As soon as Spectrum sees Soarin he says "Good morning, Dash just left some time ago even though she wanted you up, I told her that I wanted to spend time with you."

"Yea, I got her note."

Spectrum then gets up and says "Are you hungry?"

"A bit."

"Then help yourself to some of these pancakes."

Soarin then sat down at the table and Spectrum hoofed him a plate and fork and Soarin took a couple of pancakes and syrup while he was eating Spectrum was doing some of the dishes until he says "So, how did you meet my daughter?"

Soarin had a bit of food in his mouth to which he swallows and says "Well I'm sure she told you already."

"In fact she did but I want to hear your version."

"Well, first time we met was at the Best Young Fliers Competition which she won with ease and she saved my life there.  The second time we met was at the Gala, which to me was boring until Dash and her friends arrived and I was so looking forward to hanging out with her but the rich ponies and the paparazzi were there to disrupt us.  And to be honest, that was when I fell for her."

Soarin then looked up to see Spectrum sitting across from him to which he says "Please Soarin don't stop."

"Well, the next time we met was at that one wedding and we danced and finally got to hang out.  And well that was when both of us hit it off for real."

After he was done Spectrum then laughs to which Soarin raised an eyebrow and Spectrum says "Sorry, It's just that is how she described it and to tell the truth, I'm glad she found you."

"What do you mean?"

"When Dash was growing up, she was picked on because she crashes a lot and that she was never good at any relationship."

Soarin then stopped eating and said "What do you mean?"

"Well, one time she brought home a stallion whom we all thought was good for her until we find out that he had another marefriend."

"He did?"

"Yep, when Dash found out, she was so upset that she put on a tough girl look to hide all the pain she felt."

Both of them then sat down in silence until Spectrum says "But I'm wondering, wasn't you and that Spitfire together for some time?"

"Yes we were, but we broke it off because both of us realized that it wasn't going to work out."

Now it was Spectrums turn to raise an eyebrow "How so?"

"Well, if you must know me and her were together for only one month and some reasons we broke it off was the paparazzi ponies spreading rumors like Spitfire having some other stallion somewhere else and that I was only getting to know her to get her spot.  But all of those weren't true but it was getting worse so we broke it off and remained friends."

Both of them sat there again in silence for a few minutes until Soarin says "So, Dash told me about Firefly."

"She did, well if you must know me and Firefly seemed perfect for each other that me and her felt we could take on the whole world."

"How was it like, meeting her for the first time?"

"To be honest, I was either dazzled or shocked to remember but from what my friends told me mine and her noses were touching each other and our faces were so red that is was very embarrassing for the both of us."

Spectrum then laughed and says "Of course we didn't run into each other until a few days later that at first both of us were stammering and you must understand, that every mare at the school were trying to be my marefriend but I didn't care about them until I met Firefly.  She was everything I was looking for, she was smart, funny, beautiful, and was a bit of a tomcolt at the time."

Both Soarin and Spectrum laughed until Spectrum says "Also on our first date I was so nervous that the flowers I got for her didn't do so well."

"Really, how so?"

"Well, I ended up eating it up half of it.  But Firefly was happy that I made it even though I was more nervous through out the rest of the date." Spectrum then sighed until he says "So, how was your and Dash's first date?"

"Well, me and Dash first hung out at Donut Joes, and then we flew around Canterlot and watched the night sky.  And yes I was nervous and I could tell that she was too."

Both of them continued talking until they heard the door open and they see Dash come in and say "Whew, today is a scorcher of a day.  We had to put up some clouds over some areas to keep them cool."

Soarin then got up and walked up to Dash and hugged her and says "Well that comes with the job."

Dash hugged him back and says "I know."

Dash then notices her dad and says "So, how was Soarin dad?"

"Well Dash, I could tell that you like him and he likes you, so I say that he is good for you."

Dash then runs up to her dad and hugged him and says with excitement "Thanks dad, your the best."

They all then sat down for lunch and talked some more until Soarin says "So then Dash, what would you say about me taking you out tonight?"

Dash at first thinks about what he says until "Sure Soarin, I would like that."

"Great, pick you up at six?"

Dash laughs and says "You know that we live here, but alright."

All Spectrum could do is smile and kept in a low chuckle.
