Big Macintosh:

Big Macintosh here. I'm a simple farm stallion. Every day I buck trees and care for the crops. Day in and day out its the same thing. Except for the days I go out to town, somedays I'll meet a mare. Now, I've never been one for dating. But once in a while I'll have a small fling.

Like I said, small flings. Some days I'd get an admirer wondering into the farm and watching me. Usually I'd give them a smile and off they'd go. Most would come by and stay for at least a week, they'd stop sooner or later. The longest I had someone coming by was for a month or so. But there is this mare, her mane is black and her coat was red. I'd smile at her, she would respond like the others. She'd just sit there and watch me, sometimes ducking behind the tree she'd use for cover.

At times I would come up to her, to try and talk to her. But she would duck behind the tree. Once I got there, she would be gone. No where to be seen. It's been about three months or so. I was actually starting to get suspicious. I tried to point her out to Applejack or Applebloom. But by the time they look, she'd be gone. I just didn't get it. Today was the day I had it with her. As soon as I spotted her I ran toward her. This time I caught her.

"Who the hell are you, and why have you been watching me!" I was angry, so I didn't watch the volume of my voice. She ducked down and looked away from me. She kinda of reminded me of my sister's friend, Fluttershy.

"I'm sorry...I'll just leave." She said weakly. She backed away from me with tears in her eyes. I felt ashamed for what I did. I blew up on the poor girl. I bowed my head and watched her as she started to walk away.

"Wait!" She stopped in her tracks and looked back at me. She still looked spooked. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean any harm. I just didn't know your intentions. But from your reaction, I can tell you don't mean any harm to me or my family."

"I didn't mean to cause any suspicion." She said quietly. She turned around and sat on the grass. Her mane covered half of her face. Honestly, she was cute, like a playful kitten or a baby pup. I took a seat myself. Her eyes were a bright hazel, if I didn't know any better I'd say she was blind.

"What's your name?" I asked her kindly. She bowed her head. It looked to me she had to think about it, but I think she was just being shy. She looked at the grass and then back up at me, looking at me with her one eye showing. The other one was covered up by her mane.

"Rose...Black Rose." She said quietly, she was looking at the ground and then her gaze shifted to me. She was making circles with her hoof on the ground. "What...what's your name?"

This struck me as odd. Everypony knew who I was. Nearly ever mare in town knew who I was.

<flashback: "Oh Celestia! Harder Big Mac!

"Isn't he the best? My turn!">

"My name is Big Macintosh, but everypony calls mah Big Mac for short." I said trying to look her in the eye. She was mysterious for one. She certainly had my attention. "It nice to meet you."

"Can I call you Mac?" She asked making circle in the opposite direction. I couldn't help but smile. My mom had called me Mac when I was young.

"I don't see why not." I said kindly with a smile. A slight breeze blew in the air. Some leaves had flown between us.

"Big Macintosh! Where in tarnation are ya'?" I heard Applejack yell. I looked behind me to see my sister. She looked at me, I looked back at Rose. But she was gone, for one she was quick and quiet. I looked back at Applejack, the wind blew again. "Breaks over, back to work."

"Yeeup." I said, I glance back at where Rose had been sitting. I headed toward my sister, I tried to get my train if thought back to work, but for some reason her image wanted to remain on my mind.

Black Rose:

I watched him go toward his sister. I loved that stallion more then life itself, and life was short. He was handsome and caring.

"You know you can't have him." I was told. I had a voice inside of my head. Call it a split personality. Most days I'd ignore it, other days it became to much and I'd argue with myself. I turned away from him and went toward the Everfree Forest. My home had been the forest ever since my birth. Couldn't tell you how I was born, I just woke up at night someday and I found myself surrounded by the forest. I never felt scared of the place, it just felt like home for some odd reason. But I never questioned it. I built a hut out of branches and leaves. It blended into the the place very well. No pony could find it unless they were looking for it.

I never had to worry about food, many edible things grew in the forest. Never had to worry about poisonous things. I some how knew what was safe to eat and what wasn't safe to eat. I did have an immunity to poisons. I'd get sick for a few days. What would kill some other pony, it just made me I'll for a day or too. Learned that the hard way from a snake that I accidentally came across when it was shedding. Poor thing was probably scared out of its mind. "I hope he dies."

"Shut up." I said to the voice. It wasn't a kind voice, I believed it was the hatred others feel once in a while. Mine was just a personality. Didn't know why, didn't really question it honestly. I learned to live with it. Wasn't hard, besides it was the only thing I could talk too. Mac was the only pony I had ever talked to. At that moment I felt lonely for the first time.

"She speaks, great job! I hope you die too. Oh wait you will die soon." It said laughing. I mentally told it to shut up over and over. I went over to my little bed near the place I'd make a fire when the nights where cold and where I would make soup on occasion. I'd capture rain water for drinks, so I never really had to worry, plus there was a small stream nearby full of spring water that was consumable. I was consent with what I had. Never had needed more. But then one day I had gotten curious.

"Ugh, your annoying." The voice said. Like I said, I got curious and went into the open field that was beyond the forest break line. I found myself close to a apple orchard. That's when I saw Mac. He had been working, and was sweating a little. Now I don't know about other mares, but at that moment I felt my heart drop. So from that day on I had watched him from a far. I hadn't been the only one to do that. There were others who would come by, some watching like me and other friends that would visit. One I saw a couple, both were alicorns. One was black and the other was purple. That was the first time I had ever seen an Alicorn.

I would sometimes watch him with other mares. I had never seen or heard anything about what they were doing, but it made me feel weird. I would watch for a only a little before I would feel flustered.

<flashback: "Yes! Yes! That's it, oh yeah!"

"Shhhh, be quiet or we'll get caught."

"Ohhh....">

That's when I would leave, her eyes would roll back into her head, and her tongue would stick out. While Mac would pound her with something that was attached to him. I'd come back later to see Mac. He noticed me only about three or two months ago, but I've been watching him for about eight or nine. I guess I just got careless.

"I bet you'd like to get that from Mac, wouldn't you?" The voice said. I felt that odd feeling when I would watch him and those mares.

"Shut up." I said to the voice and to my mind. No didn't want to think of that right now. I started a small fire. I was starting to feel a little hungry so I was going to make some berry stu.

"Yummy, yummy. How about some roses." The voice said sarcastically. I remembered the name I told Mac. To tell the truth, I came up with it on the spot. Black Rose just jumped into my head, so I went with it. I was still feeling that odd feeling. I just couldn't help it, I was getting frustrated. I didn't know what I was feeling or how to deal with it. I just tried to cook up a meal. I was going through the motions, but the feeling remained. Usually it would go away quickly, but this time it wanted to stay for some reason. "Your pathetic."

"I told you to shut up." I said sternly. I felt stupid, I was talking to myself. I pushed everything out of my mind and focused on making my supper. It would be dark soon, so I had to keep this fire going. Which meant I'd have to eat fast and go and get some wood for a steady fire. I sometimes wondered what it felt like to live like a normal pony. But the. I'd think, I'm my a normal pony, so it didn't matter.

"You have nothing to show, and your gonna die soon. You have nothing and you'll die alone. Ohh your gonna die, die, die." The voice sang inside of my head. I felt tears well up in my eyes. I let them fall, I just kept making my soup. Same thing, different day.
