A Promise Not Forgotten
Chapter 5
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThat night I dreamt. Before Equestria I used to never dream; I was lucky if I ever did. When I did dream though, it never made any sense. The kinds of dreams that while you are in them, make perfect sense, but the moment you wake up you realize just how silly it was. Last night was different though, I dreamt and remember everything. It wasn’t a dream back on Earth, but instead, was here in Equestria. I remember everyone was worrying about something, no someone. But whenever I asked them they all ignored me, and shot evil glares. Colin was there too, but he ignored me just like the others. Whatever had happened, I had done something really bad. I just hope it’s not some kind of prophecy.
I awoke to a quiet room, alone. God, it was the worst feeling ever, knowing that Colin and I could be the only people here in Equestria. I missed home, my family, friends, and even school. But there isn’t much I can do about that right now, I just have to wait for the ponies to find a way.
I left my room and walked down the hallway and out onto a balcony. It was still night out and the cool breeze was refreshing. “I wish Earth had nights like these…” I said to myself looking over the vast quantity of stars. The moon was also bigger here. It truly was a work of art.
“Really? You like it?” The voice made me jump, who in their right mind would be up this late? I turned and looked at Princess Luna.
“Oh, Luna, I didn't know you were here,” I said. “Yeah, I guess. Back on Earth the beauty of the night is covered by the bright lights. I've always preferred the night over day, it’s peaceful, calming.”
“Th- Thank you, no one has ever said something about my night quite like that,” She said happily.
“Really? They don’t know what they are talking about then,” I said. Luna seemed to be pleased with me. “What are you doing out here? Don’t you have royal duties or something?”
“Yes, but even the princess is allowed a little fun,” She said defensively.
“I can believe that, besides it must be boring ruling over everyone. I suppose there isn't much company this late at night,”
“The guards are up, but all they do is bow, salute, or treat me as royalty. I don’t have anypony to talk to,” She said with a sad look on her face. I could tell that she didn't want to be treated like this, but she has duties as a princess. It must be lonely ruling the night. I just can’t sit by when she is sad like this, it wouldn't be right. I’m an ass, but I know when to be nice too.
“Well, now you have me,” I said with a smile. We sat and talked about casual stuff, how I got here, what I will do next, and humans in general. We carried on like that for an hour or so. “Well, Luna, as much as I’d love to stay and chat all night, I’m pretty tired. See you later?”
“Of course, I will send for you and Colin when it is time for breakfast,” She replied.
“Thank you, Luna,” With that I went back to my room and fell into a deep sleep.
Colin and I were awoken by a few guards. I suppose they didn’t quite trust us yet. They walked us through the long hallways, one could easily get lost in such a maze of winding hallways. I never looked before, but the castle was quite amazing. Back on Earth, I had never gone to a castle, so this was a first time experience. The walls were decorated with ornate paintings and the halls were supported with amazing arches.
We came to a large set of doors. These things were HUGE, why would you ever need a door this big. I laughed a little bit when the guard opened a small hatch at the bottom of the door for us to walk through. Luna and Celestia were sat at opposite ends of a table, Colin and I sat opposite each other in between the two goddesses.
“Good morning, Celestia, Luna,” I said with a small tired smile.
“Morning, princesses,” Colin said. It seemed that he wanted to keep relations with them respectful; he was professional when he needed to be. But I saw through the princesses’ masquerade right into their desire to be normal. What ruler doesn’t want to be normal sometimes?
Across the table lay an assortment of fruits and vegetables, hay and baked goods. Now I’m a picky eater, and vegetables weren’t the most appetizing thing in my books. But, hell, I don’t think these ponies could bring themselves to kill for me so I’ll just have to settle. I’m going to miss meat though, sausage sounds amazing right now.
“Please, help yourselves,” Celestia said moving a hoof over the table.
I forgot how hungry I was, I hadn’t eaten last night. Colin was starving though; he hadn’t eaten since yesterday morning. We quickly ate whatever was pushed in front of us, myself ignoring the vegetables. The princesses sat amazed just watching us, we were animals.
“Why are you looking at us like that?” I asked chewing on an apple.
“Do you always eat so… quickly?” Luna said.
“We haven’t eaten for almost a day, sorry,” Colin said a little annoyed, he enjoys his food but isn’t a fat guy, though. Colin is a little shorter than me, a bit stocky, but not fat. He has blonde hair, and bright blue eyes.
We finished our food and Celestia said, “I have duties to attend to, feel free to look about the castle, just don’t leave it. I don’t think the ponies of Canterlot are ready for something like you.”
Luna began, “I’m going to bed now, I will see you again tonight at dinner.”
Luna left the hall yawning. Celestia walked into the hall before I stopped her, “With all due respect, Celestia, why are you being to kind to us? Yesterday I threatened the life of a pony, and now you are giving us all this,” Of course I’m grateful for it all, but there has to be a reason for all this. No one is this giving, not even ponies, they have to be hiding something.
“I’d like to think of you as a friend, aren’t friends nice to each other?” She asked.
“Yeah, but not after they threaten your current friends. I’m not complaining, I just think there is something you aren’t telling us…” She looked down at the floor.
“No... I just,” She said with a barely noticeable nervous tone before walking away quickly. That just confirmed my suspicions, she knows something. I’ll have to find out what soon. I hope it’s not something bad though, that’s the last thing I want to hear.
Colin and I explored the castle; all the guards stayed off our backs but gave us watching glares. “Damn, dude, what do you wana do?” I asked bored out of my mind.
“Have you talked to Morgan Freeman lately?” He asked hoping Vis had something for us to do.
“Yeah, he has a name actually,” I walked out of earshot of the guards before continuing. “He calls himself Vis, turns out he is on our side. Said the other voice wanted us for something, he just got to us first when we woke up.”
“I guess that explains why he sounds different,” He said connecting the dots.
“Yeah, and he lives in my head.”
“Really, that’s kinda creepy, aren’t you worried about him looking through your thoughts or something?” Colin said.
“Nah, I trust him. Vis, you there?” I said hoping he was listening.
“Hold on this heavy-medic combo are taking the intel…” Vis said.
“Wait what? You can play team fortress 2?” Colin asked.
“Damn! I got back stabbed! Anyway, I have access to his memories, he plays a lot of video games and I got bored, don’t judge me,” Vis said defending himself while Colin and I laughed at him.
“So yeah, who won the race?” Colin asked through the laughter.
“Both of you won. As you pointed out, you were both there when she appeared. Aidan gets a bonus for getting her attention though,”
“So what do we get?” Colin asked.
“Aidan has already made his choice. There are rules for this though. First, you can’t wish yourself home, or someone from home here. Second, you can’t wish harm upon anypony. Third, I have limits to what I can do, and I won’t do anything that might reveal me.”
“Can you give me items?” Colin asked hopefully.
“Within reason, what did you have in mind?” Vis inquired.
“A sword I had back on Earth,”
I felt Vis leave my head for a moment then Colin started to twitch a little bit, I guess he wasn’t used to Vis digging around. Its isn't a feeling like a worm burrowing around, rather its a presence that I can feel come and go.
“You have a deal,” Vis announced making his way back into my head. Plans for the sword popped out of nowhere, “You will have to get someone to make it for you, after that I will enchant it.”
“Sweet,” Colin said looking at the schematics for his sword. It was pretty cool, had an emerald pommel, a rainbow design on the handle, and a dragon wing cross guard. The blade was long, and curvy. I had a hard time thinking of when he would use it, but with our recent luck I wouldn’t be surprised. “What did you get?” Colin asked admiring the plans.
“Something, I’ll show you when you have that sword,” I said with a smirk.
“Aww, come on!” He pleaded.
“You wait like the good dog you are!” I shot back, and he returned a grumble.
We passed the day exploring the castle, going to the library to learn about Equestria, and just hanging out in general. Colin had shown his plans to the blacksmith who agreed to make it granted we pay him back in the future. These ponies are so trusting; I’d hate to think of what a greedy person would do to them.
“The time is nearing for the humans to act, child,” the large voice said.
“Prophet, they have quickly made friends with the princesses,” the raspy voice said.
“Good, and the elements?” the Prophet asked.
“They are not on good terms with the humans, for our plan to work they must fully trust the humans.”
“So be it, we can wait…”
