A Promise Not Forgotten
Chapter 8
Previous ChapterNext Chapter“Well, this all started when Colin and I were talking on our computers,” I started.
“What’s a computer?” Twilight asked. I love her curiosity, but this will get annoying fast.
“Technology we had on Earth, it lets us access a vast amount of information with the click of a button. We were talking to each other with it,” I replied. “Anyway, we were just talking, living our lives, and all of a sudden we heard this raspy sounding voice in our heads. There was nothing in our rooms, no one else in the call, and we both could hear it. Whoever it was wanted us both to come…”
I continued telling the story; excluding the bits about Vis. I still wanted him to be secret. The ponies were both confused and interested in the tale. It seemed that what I had done before just vanished. They didn’t care anymore.
“Yeah, killed the dragon, woke up, and here we are,” I concluded.
“Wha would these voices want ta kill us?” Applejack asked, obviously worried.
“Think of it from their perspective, you are the best defense Equestria has short of the princesses, why wouldn’t they want to kill you?” I said.
“We have to tell the princess!” Twilight said, taking control of the situation. She walked away to write to herself and had Spike send the letter off.
“W- wh- what do you think will happen now?” Fluttershy asked.
“I don’t know. I doubt this voice will stop now. I pretty sure I just pissed him off,” I replied.
Colin said, “But now you know, and can help us next time he comes, right?”
Surprisingly enough Rainbow Dash flew over and put a hoof on my shoulder, leaning on me, “Don’t worry, we can handle anything! Aidan will just beat him again, right?” she said looking at me enthusiastically.
“I’ll do my best,” I said looking surprised at her.
Just then Celestia sent a letter back to us and Twilight read it aloud.
Dear Twilight Sparkle,
Aidan and Colin are to be brought to Canterlot for further questioning. If what Aidan says is true, then the Elements’ assistance will be required in the near future. In the meantime keep them detained in the library, do not let them leave.
Your Teacher,
Princess Celestia
Apparently these she has a little more history with these voices than I thought… I’ll have to keep an eye on her. Something tells me she will be a little less trusting with us. “Of course…” I said with a sigh.
“Why would she want to question us?” Colin asked.
“My guess is that she knows what is going on,” Twilight responded.
I walked to the window and looked out.
Alright, Vis, time to explain.
Ask away.
Why would Celestia be so pissed at us, at this ‘Prophet’?
She is merely taking precautions.
Are you sure we can trust her, this sounds like a little more than precautionary measures.
She and Princess Luna are the only ponies who have experience fighting the Prophet. She will do whatever is necessary to make sure he can never harm the kingdom again.
A covered carriage landed just outside the library and Celestia stepped out. She came into the library and glared at us. “You two, go to the carriage and wait for me,” She said with a flat tone.
Colin and I left the building and got in the carriage, “What are we gonna do now?” Colin asked me.
“I have no clue man, we can hope she doesn’t banish us or something,” I said with a light chuckle.
“I don’t think she’ll do that,” He said.
“Well, whatever she does to us, I’m sorry for getting us into this mess,”
“It wasn’t your fault. It was that freaking voice,” Colin said.
“Whatever happens, I won’t let this thing kill us,” I said, hoping there was a way out.
“We’ll manage, don’t worry,” He assured me.
Celestia stepped into the carriage with us. She had a stark look, but her eyes showed the pain she was going through. This must have happened before.
“Celestia…” I started.
“Don’t, not here,” She said, cutting me off. She just looked out the window, not looking at us the whole ride. We arrived in Canterlot pretty quickly. “Follow me.”
We walked through long hallways, adorned with beautiful paintings. The night sky painted the castle beautifully. She took us to the throne room, and told the guards to wait outside.
“I suppose you want to know what is going on.” She asked.
“Oh, you got that right! Who the hell is the Prophet?” I said, not hiding my anger. Just what was she hiding?
“The Prophet was an enemy I thought I had rid this world of,” She said.
“Who is he?” Colin asked.
“He was close to me at first. He gained my trust, worked for the better of Equestria. But he got greedy, wanted more and more power. I had to stop him when he tried to remove me from the throne, he was the one telling Luna what to do when she was Nightmare Moon,” She replied.
“And just what the hell would he want with us?” I asked.
“Revenge. Our last option was ruined when the elements of harmony went missing. He had taken and hid them. We started experimenting with unknown magic,”
“What’s do dangerous about it?” I asked.
“This dark magic uses hate, greed, and envy as power,” Celestia said. I could tell she regretted this.
“The spell worked, at first. He disappeared and we thought we had won, only to find out later that what we had done to him. It pulled the hate from Luna and me and pushed it into him; he was corrupt from the inside out. That is when he rested in Luna’s mind and told her to go against me.
“You created this guy?” I said.
“We didn’t mean to,” She said, holding back a sob. I could see the tears reflecting the moonlight as they ran down her face.
“You and he were close weren’t you?” I asked as everything clicked. He was the only one she loved, and she ruined him. She would never forgive herself for it, and could never finish the job when it came down to it.
“Yes. More than you know,” She said looking at the moon.
“Listen, I’ll help you stop him. I’ll put an end to this, I promise,” I said putting a hand on her shoulder.
“You and your promises,” Celestia said smiling while wiping away the tears.
“Don’t worry, we are here,” Colin said standing just behind me.
Colin left for bed a little while later. I stayed there with her.
“Celestia, he brought me here to kill you?” I asked.
“Yes, I am the only thing standing in his way of ruling our land,” Celestia replied.
“There isn’t a way back is there?” I said. I knew it wasn’t the time, but I had to know.
“No. He wouldn’t allow it; even if he was gone his magic would hold you here,”
I just sat there. Home was gone. It sucked, but that meant that the only thing I had to live for was these ponies. They are the only thing I have left, short of Colin. They are the last thing I have left to keep me alive. This mighty Prophet can’t stop me. I will keep my promise.
“Then I have only one thing to live for,” I said looking up at her.
“Whatever you do, Aidan, don’t let him get into your head. Don’t let him ruin you,” Celestia looked like she wanted to say more, but couldn’t.
We walked back to our rooms and went to bed.
Again I woke up and went to the large balcony where Luna sat waiting.
“Hey, Luna,” I said as I walked out onto the grass on the balcony.
“Hello, Aidan,” She said as she smiled at me.
“Luna, can you tell me something?” I asked.
“Sure?” Luna responded.
“Who was the Prophet, before he changed?”
“He was special to my sister. He was the old captain of the guard, and did everything he could for her,” She answered.
“What happened to them?”
“Celestia ended the relationship,”
“Why?”
“Alicorns are immortal, Aidan,”
Then it hit me. Celestia ended it because she wouldn’t be able to take the grief if something happened to him. “Don’t you think that’s a bit selfish of her?”
“Maybe, but think about it from our perspective. We live forever, would you like to live knowing you lost the one you loved and couldn’t do anything about it,” I’ll give it to her, she has a point.
“Yeah, that certainly would suck,” In case you wondered, I don’t care about respecting these ponies as princesses, hence the lack of respect in their presence. To me, they are friends. Judge me if you will, but I don’t care anymore.
Luna and I continued to talk casually. Nothing out of the usual happened after that.
I went back to my room again and felt the whirring of Vis in my head. He was up to something.
Vis?
What?
What do you know about the Prophet?
He is an angry entity of immense power and wants to see Celestia dead. I’m here to stop that.
How do you plan on doing that?
Giving you all my powers when the time comes.
And Colin?
Let’s just say you have a certain mental dysfunction that allows me to work through you.
Is that a bad thing?
No, so long as Prophet doesn’t get in here. Think of yourself as a conduit, you let the energy flow easily. Colin doesn’t have this unique ability, so I can’t use him.
Nor can the Prophet, right?
Yes, that is why I reside in your mind, to keep him from harming Tia.
Tia?
Celestia…
Right.
