Chapter 7
Well.... Crap.... Now What?
‘I know that look… She’s pissed. Really pissed, about something.’ “Hey… Rarity… What’s going on?”
“I could ask you the same thing.” Rarity’s voice was flat, and cold. ‘Oh yeah. She’s pissed. What the fuck did I do?’
“You saw, didn’t you?” She simply nodded. “Okay. How much? All of it? Or did you come in when we were kissing?”
“I saw it all.” You let out a heavy sigh. ‘There’s only thing I can really do.’
“All right. Not meaning to come across like a dick, but let’s hear what your problem is.” She huffed. ‘REALLY pissed…’
“Well for starters how about the fact you were making out with one of my best friends?”
“Okay, I can see why that would tick you off. Is that everything?”
“How about the fact you were doing it right outside my house! MY place of business! What with ponies think?” ‘Okay, here comes the rant… Just try to keep your mouth closed and wait it out…’ “There there’s the fact you’ve been all flirty with me, and how do you think I feel about all of this?!” ‘Holy fuck. She’s jealous!?’
Your face contorts into surprise as you ask “Are… Are you… Jealous?” her face lights up like a red Christmas light ‘Oh. My. Fucking. God…. She’s jealous….’ “You are aren’t you!”
Rarity starts looking around the room, as if trying to find out if there’s any truth to that. “I most certainly am not!”
You cross your arms. “Oh? Then why are you this mad? I can get why you’d be upset about me kissing your best friend, and how it would be worsened by the fact it was right outside your place of business; but I think there’s more to it hen that. You seem to be a understanding type of pony given how you’re still talking to me after the… ‘things’ you’ve seen… So that leads me to believe there’s more to it than just this.”
Rarity looks angry then before and starts full on yelling. “How dare you assume you know me well enough to think that’d I’d be jealous! Jealous of some playcolt flirting with every cute mare that comes his way!”
Well, now you start acting like an idiot and start trying to defend your actions. Like a retard, you start yelling back. “I was not flirting! I was just trying to make a good first impression! Girls like it when you complement them like that!”
“And how would you know what girls like mister ‘soldier boy’!”
“BECAUSE I WAS MARRIED HAPPILY MARRIED FOR YEARS!” You shout as loud and as angry as you could manage before slumping down to the ground. Looks of defeat and despair on your face. “Because I was married...” Rarity’s will to fight was extinguished by your outburst.
“What do you mean?”
“Surely you ponies have marriage.” Rarity nodded. “Then why are you asking? I said I ‘WAS’ Married. Past tense. It’s over with…”
“What’s the matter? What caused you two to split up?”
You let out a heavy sigh, and try to steel your nerves. Rarity has no idea what she has gotten herself into. “First off, what I’m about to tell you, is something I want kept a secret. I’ve never told anyone this before, and I feel like I can trust you.” You don’t even wait for a response and you keep going. “We didn’t ‘Split Up’ we were happily married for years. We got married right out of high school. We loved each other more than anything. Our parents didn’t really approve, but we didn’t care.” Your voice starts cracking and you continue pouring your heart out like this.
“We moved away from our home town, and to nice little small town hundreds of miles away in my little beater of a car. We both got some jobs to pay off the loan we got to put a down payment on a small house. Things were going smoothly, we were happy as could be. We hardly had any fights, and when we did, they blew over in a few hours.
“Then we found out she was pregnant. I didn’t think I could be any happier than I already was, but I was wrong. We were over joyed. I took on extra hours at the place I worked at, and started working harder. IN a few months time, all my hard work was rewarded. I was promoted, I was making enough money now to support the both of us, and soon, the three of us.
“On our days off, we go out together. Got to the movies, relax in the park, or what have you. One day, we decide to go to the park.” Recalling all these long forgotten memories is taking its toll upon you. Your voice is cracking, and tears are streaming down your face. “We wait at a cross stop for our turn to cross the road. When our turn comes up, we start walking. She took the lead while I finished tying my shoe. When the unthinkable happens. I get up and start to follow her, when a semi blows the red light. In an instant, my life is gone. The semi hits her while she’s walking. It wasn’t even trying to slow down, or warn her or anything. It just goes on.
“Right before my eyes, my wife and unborn child is torn to shreds by the impact force. All the joy I’ve ever experienced turns to sorrow… Happiness to sadness… The weeks came and went, after the funeral, I took the first bus to an Army Recruiting station and never looked back. I joined expecting I’d be killed so I could join her. So we could be together again. Instead, I became one of the best soldiers the Army could offer, because I fought like I had nothing to lose. Because I didn’t.”
Rarity was scooted closers to you after sitting on the ground. However the fuck that worked. You just leaned forward and cried on her shoulder. Openly weeping on the shoulder of the mare that comforted you in your time of need. You wrapped your arms around her and dug your face into her as you felt one of her hooves snake its way around you. The wall of emotions you built up over the years is crumbling just like that. You were pouring your heart and soul out to this mare, and you had no idea why.
You sat there and cried on her shoulder for hours. The sun set hours ago, and Rarity’s mane was more than soaked by now, your eyes hurt, and you were tiered in every sense of the word, physically, and mentally. When you finally calmed down, you pulled away from Rarity.
“Sorry about your hair Rarity…”
“Pish posh, darling. Don’t worry about it. Why don’t you go upstairs and take a shower, I’ll make you some soup. How’s that sound?”
“That sounds good. Thanks, this means a lot, and it feels good to get that off my chest… Just to talk about it, ya know?”
“Indeed I do. Now hurry up.” You slowly get up, and could swear you heard your bones creak as you got out of the awkward position you were in. You nod and begin to walk upstairs for the shower.
You let out another sigh as you reach the top of the stairs. You walk into the bathroom, and you wedge your shoes under the door, which should prevent anymore shit happening here. “All right bathroom, my nemesis. We meet again. Fuck me over one more time; we’ll see what an explosion will do in an enclosed space.” You finish taking off the rest of your clothes, and get the shower going. ‘Curse these finicky knobs…’ After finally getting it right, you get in and get to work getting clean. You find that a nice hot shower melts away your stress. (It really does help. I think it kicks ass, keep cranking up the heat till you can barely stand it. It’s awesome… Or yeah…. I’m going to take a shower.)
You turn off the shower after the water starts cooling off because the water heater is almost out of hot water. You just stand there like an idiot and drip for a few minutes before toweling off and putting on some pants. You open the door and are practically bitch-slapped by not only the awesome aroma of whatever Rarity made, but also the fact that since you took a shower at like 150 degrees, the bathroom was like a sauna, and the hallway, was not.
“Wow Rarity, I don’t know what you made, but it smells good!” You say as you walk downstairs. You are still slightly bothered by what transpired (Look at me using big words :D ) earlier. But you’ll be fine after a good dinner, and a good night’s sleep, you’ll be fine. Though you question the good night’s sleep part of this plan. It’s been a really fucked up day.
“How was your shower darling?” She was still stirring whatever was on the stove with her magic. Next to her was a half empty bottle of wine, and a half empty glass. ‘That’s not a good sign…’
“It was good. Thanks for asking. You’ve been too good to me… Kindness like that is not but a myth or legend on Earth.” You let out a long sigh. “Today’s been a roller coaster of emotions…”
Rarity tapped the spoon she was stirring with on the pot. “The soup is ready, let me just grab a ladle-“ Rarity turned around and noticed you weren’t wearing a shirt. A blush crept its way upon her face as she continued speaking “A couple of bowls, and spoons then we can get eating”
You didn’t notice before, but looking around the kitchen was done up to look... Romantic… Candles, a fancy table cloth, the works. “Wow Rarity, this place is looking good. What’s the occasion?”
“You’ve had a rough day. I’m just going to try and end it on a good note. Though I may have gone a tad over board… Oh well. It looks fabulous anyway.” Rarity giggled after she finished, a little wobbly.
“You okay? You look like you’ve had a little bit to drink.” You asked, getting ready to confirm your suspicions.
“A half a bottle of wine isn’t that much darling. I’m perfectly fine.” Which pretty much meant, she was drunk, and didn’t want to admit it. ‘This night is going to be a long one. God I hope things don’t get weird…’
Rarity sets the bowls and spoons on the table, and then brought the pot of soup over to the table. You take your seat at the table, and Rarity has a seat next to you. You are about to ask why, when she levitates her bowl and silverware over to her new spot. “You don’t mind if I sit next to you, do you darling?”
“Not at all Rarity. I enjoy your company. There’s something about you that makes me feel like that no matter what happens, I’ll be fine, and you’ll be there to comfort me. Like earlier, for some reason, I felt like I could open up to you, and you wouldn’t make fun of me, or look at me differently. I was right to, I broke down and started crying like a baby, but instead of mocking me, or leaving me to my own devices, you comforted me. Held me till I calmed down. I can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done, I hate to sound like a broken record, but it’s true.”
Rarity was blushing again. ‘She’s been doing that a lot lately…’ “Oh please, you don’t need to worry about it. I know that you can only keep something bottled up for so long before it just come spilling out. When it does, all the feelings come out at once. I’m just glad I was the one there to help you.” Rarity went bright red, and turned away “Oh dear, that must’ve been the wine talking…”
You quickly break the awkward silence that has fallen over you. “Let’s eat shall we? But, don’t tell me what’s in the soup. I’d rather not know. Though I tend to try anything once, the idea of eating flowers is odd to me. Like the notion of eating meat is to you. I eat vegetables, but not hay, and flowers. You understand right?”
“Oh yes of course. Don’t worry about it.” Rarity grabs the ladle and fills up both of your bowls. You grab your spoon and begin eating.
“Oh wow! This is really good Rarity.” You start eagerly spooning your soup into your mouth. “It’s tastes a little weird, but it’s a good weird. You’re an excellent cook!”
“Yes, a lady of my caliber must be proficient in cooking if she wants to snag the stallion of her dreams.” You let out a sigh.
“Yeah. Stallion. Guess that’s something I just don’t have huh?” You keep eating.
“What do you mean?” You look at Rarity with a face that says ‘You can’t be serious?’ “Well, I’m sorry I just don’t understand what you mean.”
“Look at me. I’m no pony. I’m something else. I’ll never be able to have a family here… I’m different. I’m all alone in this world… How can anypony stand something like me? I’m just a mon- NNFFPH!” Your rant of self-loathing is cut off as you find Rarity smashing your face with hers. Her lips on yours. You find yourself pushing back, soup forgotten. You wrap your arms around Rarity and move her over to your lap. This sudden movement gets a little squeal out of Rarity. The world falls apart around you, you open your mouth a crack and use your tongue to try and coax Rarity’s mouth open.
Instead of the hoped for reaction, she pulls away. A mad blush on her face, though you can only imagine yours is just as bad. “You are not alone Jason. I can stand you just fine, so can the rest of the girls. And you are not a monster. Monsters do awful things for no real reason. The only bad thing I’ve seen you do was to protect me. And I’m eternally grateful. Now let’s finish eating.”
You can only nod dumbly in response. Rarity slides back over to her chair, and resumes eating. You go back to eating as well. All the while your thoughts are on the white mare next to you. Whom you could only think of as the most beautiful thing in all of Equestria, or Earth for that matter.
You both finally finish your soup. You stand up gather your bowl, and Rarity’s and head off to the kitchen. “I’ll take care of the dishes. It’s my… my belief…” You start getting dizzy “That… if you…d-don’t…” You vision begins to fade.
“Jason? Are you okay?” You drop the bowls which break when they hit the floor, and try to catch yourself on the wall.
“Rarity…. I’m…. Not feeling… so good…” Your turn to hit the floor. Thankfully however, you don’t break like the bowls. Your senses begin to dull.
“Jason!” Rarity runs over to you and throws the bowls away into the wall. You only see her panicked face as you fade away into darkness. ‘Sorry… Rarity…’ Was the last thing you thought before you were unconscious.
You know daddy, normally I'd ask how the person in the stories you tell are going to be fine or not, but since you are still here, I know you'll be fine. Since this is the story of how you and mommy fell in love."
"Such a smart girl! It's no wonder you always get A's in your class. Your a little genius." The filly in your lap giggle at the praise, and hold her head up high, lifting it off your chest.
"I learned from the best after all."
You kiss her forehead and put her onto your back. "Come on. Bed time, that's enough of the story for tonight."
"Aww.... But daddy..."
"No buts, you have school tomorrow. It's going to be a busy day. You have a vocabulary quiz for history remember?"
"Yeah yeah..."
You laugh "I've been there too sweetheart. I wasn't always the full grown hunk of awesome I am today. I mean that in like, every way possible to."
"I know. You used to be human right?"
"Right. Now off to bed."
Closing notes: Sorry about the cliff hanger. I'll have chapter 8 out as soon as I can, but the week is about to come into full swing again, and the first three days are the busiest for me. What with classes, and martial arts. Well, anyway, let me know what you think in the comments. Feedback makes me :) Happy Face. Unless it's not positive. That makes me :( Sad Face But I'll leave your raosting to the people who like my story. No since deleting a trolls comment when I can watch him get burned alive by my dozen fans. xD
