Discord's Warrior

The next day
‘Man I hope I don’t wake up in my old house’ I thought as I slowly opened my eyes awakening from my slumber.

‘You won’t get away from me that easily Storm Chaser’ said Discord ‘now get four flank up already, you need to learn how to fly your body already knows how to do so, now you have to get your mind to get used to flying’.

“Good morning Storm Chaser, are you ready to fly now?” said the white dragoness while sticking her head out of the hollowed out tree and heading into the Legerdemane forest.

“Yeah sure” I said with a little nervousness “how are we going to start?” while I started to walk towards her ‘Wait a minute, I can walk on four legs now?’ I thought mainly to myself.

‘Of course you can, like I told you already your body knows how to do things a normal pegasus would do, you just have to get your mind used to it’. ‘And why didn’t you tell me this until now?’

‘Are you kidding me? How could I have told you while you were freaking out just because some timer wolves attacked you? ‘Well, fair enough’ I thought while making a slightly annoyed face.

While I was having my conversation with Discord, Palewing saw my facial expressions that made me look like I was talking and discussing something with somepony that wasn’t there needless to say she was weirded out by this behavior.
“What are you doing Storm Chaser?” she said as I wrapped out my conversation, I looked at her questioning eyes and I shook my head.

“Nothing just trying to remember what exactly I was doing flying over this forest” I said as I lied to her so she would think my actions were normal somehow.

“Okay then, let’s go to the river you can try flying there without the danger of falling and breaking something”
“Sure how far is it anyway?” I asked her while we slowly walked out into the forest. She shrugged her shoulders a little and she answered “I don’t really know where it is right now, it could be a couple minutes away in this direction” she said as she kept walking.

“Wait a minute what do you mean you don’t know where it’s at right now?”

She sighed “well you see the forest of Legerdemane has something that makes it different from any other forest in this land, the trees” she said as she pointed to one “they have the inner ability to release small amounts of magic from gem deposit that are underground close to their roots that has the purpose of confusing any sentient being that enters it”.
“What do you mean by confusing?” I asked her

“Well it disorients you to the point that you get lost in these woods and what you thought was in front of my home could be entirely on the other side of the forest the next day”

“So how can one get out of this forest?” I asked her as we kept walking.

“Well flying is the easiest way out, but allies of the High King usually fly over this forest so that is out of the question the only other way would be walking out and hoping you find the edge of the forest”

“Have you ever tried to leave this forest?”
“Not really” she said in a relaxed tone “it is a lot safer here than outside of this forest and these big trees hide me from any other dragon that flies over them”

“Ok then that’s a smart move I guess”. We kept walking for what felt to me like another ten minutes until I started to hear what I though was fast moving water rushing somewhere close to us. Palewing kept looking around for some reason squinting like if she was trying to see if someone was out there.

Finally she relaxed and she lowered her head into the river and started to gulp the clean water.
“Well get on this stump and try taking off from here” she said as she pointed toward a tall tree stump next to me. Palewing grabbed me and slowly put me on top of the 6 foot tall stump that was almost as tall as she was.

“What should I do first?” I asked her as I started thinking if this was a good idea.
Palewing shrugged again and said “how should I know? Our wings are very different from each other’s and I haven’t really seen enough of your kind to know how you fly”

‘Crap, well I guess I’m on my own for this’ I thought while I tried thinking of how to fly without hurting myself. ‘hahaha oh Storm Chaser you are never alone, just try it already’

“Well, I guess I should start by flexing my wing muscles” I started to lift my wings and straightening them out to my sides “now to move them slowly” I started to flap them slowly up and down trying to get used to moving these new body parts.

I look to Palewing and again she is lightly squinting looking all around us, but then relaxing again after a few seconds.
“Hey Palewing, how do you fly anyways?” I asked her while I started to rotate my wings a little. “Well” she said as she spread her elongated claws that held the wing membrane.

“I use my arms to launch myself in the air, and then I start to flap my wings or I just throw myself of a high place. We wyvrex are better known for our running than for our flying.

“Are you sure you’re not species isn’t related to the ancestors of dragons? You know before they’re wings evolved to be separate from their arms” She listened to this and pondered to herself “It certainly makes sense, now are you going to fly or not?”

“Ok, ok let me just get ready” I said as I closed my eyes and again positioned my wings to be straight out.
‘Feel the wind under you wings Storm Chaser, and just do what anypony with wings would do, besides I made your wings a little bigger so that you could fly faster than a normal pegasus would.

“Okay, then its time” I said as I slowly opened my eyes I looked to my left and saw Palewing laying down looking expectantly at me.

I breathed in slowly and started to flap my wings harder this time and started to run towards the edge of the stump and right before getting there I jumped and closed my eyes because of the nervousness and slight fear of falling straight into the river or the ground.

I opened them again surprised that I was not falling but steadily flying over a smiling dragoness that was looking up at me. “Hahaha holy crap I’m flying, I’m actually flying!” I yelled at no one in particular.

I started to relax a little and started to feel the wind going past my mane and my feathers as I was flying at a slow pace towards a tree.

It felt right to be flying ‘I wonder if this how all beings with wings feel when they fly?’

‘They sure do Storm Chaser now stop flying like a grandma and start to really fly’ I smirked at what he said and stretched out my fore legs to my front and my hind legs straight backwards.

I started to slowly speed up as I flew upwards on to the tree line and right before getting there I folded my wings, making my body make a somersault in midair and fall and after falling for a couple feet I opened them again.

I flew down to the river and touched the water with my hoof across the river, I then flew up and did a barrel roll while I gained altitude, and all the while I had the dumbest grin on my face.

I stabilized my flying while I dodged trees and started to slow down again a little bit taking in what I was doing ‘thank you again Discord I can’t even describe how good it feels to be flying’. ‘I told you already don’t think it will always be like this here’

I shook my head again smiling ‘yeah, yeah but thanks anyways’ after flying for a couple more minutes and doing slight stunts, I started to descend towards the base of the tree stump I took off from.

“So what do you think Palewing best flier you ever did see, am I right?” I boasted to Palewing while I landed. She rolled her eyes smiling “please I have seen way better fliers than that in fact I am sure I can fly faster than you do”

“Oh?” I said smirking “well let’s see you try flying faster than I do”. Palewing just smiled at me “I can’t in here I barely have enough room to spread my wings fully, and besides I don’t want to bring attention to us”

“Okay, then if you say so” I said teasing her, she ignored me as she for a third time squinted her eyes and started to look around, I tried to look around for whatever it was she had been looking for but I neither heard or saw anything out of the ordinary.

“What have you been looking for Palewing?” as I asked her she snapped out of it and said “There is another dragon that flies over this forest often and I think he knows I’m here, he just hasn’t seen us yet.

“Come on Storm Chaser I think we should go back to the tree” she then started to walk back very silently as if she didn’t want to make a sound. “Sure anything that makes you that afraid sure scares the hell out of me too” I said as I started to fly.
‘The correct term here is Tartarus’ said Discord. Palewing then looked at me with angry eyes “I’m not scared of anything; it’s just that I would rather not fight that damn dragon right now”

I gulped in slight fear and said “Ok, ok sorry let’s just go to the tree and maybe he will leave” we walked all the way back to the tree and stayed there for a while just resting Palewing then got up and said “I am going to get myself something to eat, wait here”

Palewing quickly ran into the deeper part of the forest in search of her prey getting out of my line of sight fairly quickly. “I hope she makes a fire and cooks what she brings back, I haven’t had meat in a long time” I said to myself.

‘There are two problems with that Storm Chaser’ “Oh yeah? What would those be?” ‘Well for starters she doesn’t breathe fire since she is a Wyvrex’ “That’s weird I thought she did”

‘And secondly you can’t eat red meat, you’re a pegasus now’ I froze up at what Discord had just told me “Nooooooooo! Damn it I love meat I can’t live without it” I almost started to cry at what should have been obvious information.
‘Well you could eat meat, but that would be a little bit weird don’t you think besides your stomach wouldn’t be able to digest it properly and you could get sick from eating it.’

“Oh well I guess I will have to live without meat then” I said sadly “well I could at least make a fire to cook whatever Palewing brings back” ‘And how are you going to do that I wonder?’

“Easy I just have to find some rocks to make a spark” after a few minutes of looking around I found a small rock that looked like a quartz and a bigger black shiny rock, I then grabbed a lot of branches from the trees, and a small amount of dry grass.
I grabbed both rocks and struck them together and a spark fell and landed right on the small patch of dry grass and slowly the ember grew and the fire caught the branches.

“How did you do that?” asked Palewing slightly surprised with fresh blood on her claws and on her mouth, making her look fiercer than she already did. “Oh, it was nothing really just a thing I learned”

Palewing then dropped the half eaten manticore on the floor next to me; she then looked to the fire and said “Well since it’s not making much smoke it won’t really alert anydrake of our presence”

“Do you want me to cook it for you?” She looked at me puzzled and said “sure, but how would you know how to cook meat?” I thought of an answer and said “it shouldn’t be that hard”

“Just get a thick branch to put the meat over the fire first” she reached up and grabbed one and stabbed the branch through the manticore meat “now stick the base on the ground so that the meat hangs over the fire”

With a nod she did what I told her “now we wait for it to get cooked” I said as I looked at the meat sizzling lightly over the fire.
We sat just looking at the fire for a few minutes as the meat cooked “I think its ready now, you can eat it now” Palewing was eyeing the manticore steak with hungry eyes “Mmm, don’t mind if I do” she grabbed a piece and chewed it with her strong jaws.

Her eyes widened and she said “this is the best thing I have ever eaten in my life, now I know for sure this isn’t your first time cooking” she then started to greedily eat all of the meat chewing a bit loudly.

“Thank you very much Storm Chaser” she said very gratefully. “No problem I like it when others like my cooking, I just wish I could have some” whispering to myself the last part.

After eating Palewing turned off the fire because it was getting dark and we didn’t want anything to see the fire especially not another dragon. We both went inside after I flied again for a few minutes since it was getting dark.

“Well goodnight Palewing” I said as I got comfortable on top of some leaves from the tree. “Goodnight Storm Chaser”
I slowly closed my eyes waiting for sleep ‘You’re going to have to tell her about the plan Storm Chaser, she either helps you or she doesn’t you can’t stay in this forest forever, oh and you have to start getting a little more violent after all I don’t want you getting squeamish’

‘I will tell her about the plan and I hope she will join me’ I thought to myself as I fell asleep.
