Chapter 28: Light reading

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

An hour of reading and fifteen chapters later Twilight decided to close the book. I'd spent most of the time explaining what a lot of the guff the book had was. She pulled off the cover and got up.

"Don't feel like reading for a bit?" I asked still lying on the couch.

"No I'm just getting a headache from all the events. It's strange how much they change in their world."

I got up and stretched. "It takes a lot to make it perfect. If you could really call it that."

"I still feel bad for them and Jonas. So much history, so much to learn and they can't. Just for there own good."

"Things always happen strangely. For the greater good isn't much of a reason though." I said as I walked into the kitchen and turned on a burner on the stove.

I filled my kettle with water from the sink and placed it on the burner. The box of tea was still on the counter. I grabbed two more cups from the cabinet and placed them on the counter. Twilight sat back down on the couch.

"I still hate it that they removed all color. Color seems like a pointless thing, but without it nothing is the same." She said.

I let out a sigh and sat back down. "Color on Earth is much different than on Equestria. Ponies are all sorts of colors and that makes them unique. Humans are different. Color often effects how people view you. There was a time when certain colors were shunned and disliked for being different."

"That's awful." Twilight said.

"Humans can be as shallow and spiteful as they can be kind and diverse. I should know."

"Why? It seems so trivial."

"Sometimes it's difficult for a young civilization to know what is right and what is wrong." I said looking up to ceiling. "We've even gone as far as to create open conflict over it."

Twilight seemed deep in thought and simply sat there.

"I can't quite explain why they do things. I guess being acute and animalistic is hardwired into us."

A few minutes of silence passed. I got up and walked to the computer. I sat down on the broken computer chair and turned my computer on. I turned back around to see Twilight looking at it curiously.

"What is that?" She asked.

"It's called a computer," I explained. "It's a machine that...well...I can't quite explain that either." I said scratching my head. "Come here and I'll try to show you."

She got up from the couch and stood next to me as the computer turned on. I moved the mouse around and clicked 'log on'. My wallpaper came up and my icons loaded in. I clicked on the Mozilla Firefox icon and loaded the browser.

"Alright, name something off the top of your head." I said.

"Human."

I typed it in the Google search bar and hit enter. The page loaded up and the first thing on the list was 'Human - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia'. I clicked on the link and the page loaded.

I got up and motioned for her to sit. I demonstrated how to use the mouse wheel and she repeated it. The kettle began to whistle. "Have a read if you want." I said as I walked into the kitchen.

I turned off the burner and poured the water into the cups. I added the loose tea and brought the cups back into the living room. I set them down on the computer desk where Twilight had read through quite a bit of the page, already in the 'evolution' section.

"What d'you think" I asked placing my hand on her shoulder.

She looked up to me. "Better than any book I've seen." She smiled.

I shared in the smile. "Finding all this fascinating?" I asked.

"Very" She said returning her attention to the page. "Humans have developed so much. It's a little unsettling how close humans and ponies are."

"I'll say." I chuckled.
