Chapter 43: New equipment

I took in my surroundings and felt like I was only a spec of dust. All across my field of view, far out into every horizon was an empty wasteland of scorched earth and dead trees. Even the sky set me off uncomfortably, it held a bloody crimson tinge and was as empty as the earth. It felt cold and empty, like deaths icy grip was already back on me.

"Where the fuck are we?" I asked standing atop a hill.

"The wasteland of eternity." Marrow explained. "We're in a different part of hell right now."

"What happened to all the parties and people?"

"That was that part. You see, The underworld is as complex and varied as, well, nothing you'd know of or understand." Marrow trailed off.

"Son of a bitch!" I roared kicking up a cloud of ashen dirt. "When I find my way back there I'm gonna tear that fucker a new one."

"Calm it down. How do you think you got dropped in here in the first place? You got hotheaded and did something reckless." Marrow scoffed.

I shot a glare at him. "Well you sure as shit didn't help."

"I'm no fighter. That's why I get unlucky bastards like you to do work for me."

It took every ounce of will power to not punt him right then and there.

"Then what do you suggest I do?"

"Study your enemy Monkey, learn, adapt, defeat." He spouted off.

"Fine." I said sitting down on the burned ground. I thought over how the giant cock suck went up to me.

"He's fast, he dodged everything I shelled out. Ranged fighting didn't do much. He fought up close and was pretty tough at that. My fists didn't do shit, maybe I need to work on melee fighting."

"Hey Marrow, this stuff wouldn't happen to help with up close fighting, would it?"

"See for yourself." He said with an eery smile.

I stood up and thought of something, something that could hit fast and hard. Something maneuverable. Not just a weapon, something that would an extension of me. Something...something. It hit me. A sword! It's perfect.

I focused and the markings floated over to my hand. They formed into an elongated tubular object a little longer than a foot. One end came out strangely spherical then ridged. The other end came out thicker, with two more smaller ridged pieces on either ends of a box shaped part. The box piece extended out over a meter, it a thin guide bar with a smaller thick piece the was rounded on the end. The smaller tubular pieces extended out in the form of a hand guard. I looked down at it with curiosity. "Not what I expected."

I noticed on the other side of the top was a switch. I pushed it. A click and wuur sounded off and a green light shot between. The light was bright and warm and flickered as I moved around. It produced a low hum that increased in strength when I swung it around.

"Sweet." I said with a high amount of enthusiasm.

I spotted a nearby dead tree and approached it. I raised the glowing blade and swung at the tree. The weapon seemed to completely phase through. The tree gave in and most of it dropped down, a large smooth cut where I had swung. I looked between the tree and the sword almost a dozen times. "Holy shit! This thing is freakin' awesome!" I looked back up to the blood red sky. "Dream, your finally starting to kick ass."

Marrow looked over at me contently. "Liking the new toy, huh?"

"Oh hell yeah. I can't wait to cut into that giant motherfucker with this thing."

It felt exactly how I wanted it to. Light, comfortable, Like an extension of my arm. It was perfect. It dissipated and the marks moved back to their spots. I looked back to marrow. "Let's get moving, I got some anger issues to work out."

He hopped up onto my back. "We might have a way to go. lucky me, I know a town on the edge of this place we could rest up at."

"Nothing long. Remember, I have someone waiting."
