Everyone knows about the Changelings but no one actually knows how they work. No one knows about the holes in their hooves. No one knows about what happened to their food source, or why they targeted Canterlot primarily. To put it bluntly, no one knows anything about the Changelings. So why not ask the queen of them why all of these things happened. Or better yet just crack open her journal.
