Soaring Hearts
Akwardness
Previous ChapterNext Chapter"So, girls, how did you enjoy your bunkmates?" Twilight had gotten the girls together for breakfast. At the moment, they were discussing the night to decide whether the pairs could stay or whether they would have to make adjustments.
"Well, I must admit that Rapidfire was rather pleasant. He was a true gentlecolt, darling, unlike a certain prince." Rainbow and the girls giggled, remembering how Rarity had reacted to Blueblood using her as a shield. The gala was two years ago but the memory was still fresh in their minds.
"Pinkie, your turn. How was the night with Surprise?" Pinkie instantly launched into a detailed description of last night. An hour later she stopped talking and looked at the girls in confusion. Twilight smiled at the pink mare's look of bewilderment and even gave a little giggle.
"Well, anypony have anything negative to say? " The girls shook their heads, even Rainbow. Twilight smiled and nodded, sealing Rainbow's fate for the week. Twilight levitated a small pouch of bits onto the table and stood up. The girls trotted out of the restaurant. And ran right into the Wonderbolts.
"Hey Spitfire. The girls said they're fine with the current pairs. So, there's no adjusting needed." Spitfire started to blush and scrape her hoof against the ground awkwardly. Twilight and the girls instantly knew something was wrong. And Spitfire's next statement proved them right.
"Well, unfortunately, there was a problem with one of the rooms. Soarin's, to be exact, so we had to move him and Rainbow." Rainbow lifted her head at this. She was going to be in a different room.
"But are Rainbow and Soarin are still sharing rooms?" Spitfire nodded, causing Rainbow to freeze, her heart pounding. Oh NO! Not good, not good at all.
"...With you, Rainbow?" Rainbow jumped and turned to Twilight, who had an amused look on her face. Rainbow felt her cheeks grow warm. She felt her wings give an embarrassed rustle. Soarin gave an amused chuckle, his eyes shining. Rainbow's cheeks grew redder as the ponies with her started to laugh.
"I said, is staying with Soarin again okay with you?" Rainbow nodded as her blush died down. Twilight smiled and turned back to Spitfire. The two started talking as Twilight led the girls and the Wonderbolts away.
"Hey." Rainbow jumped again as Soarin walked up beside her. She turned to the stallion, her cheeks flushing again. Soarin smiled, amusement written all over his face. Rainbow looked down as her whole face turned red. Why was she blushing so much? Of course she knew why, it was because Soarin was so close. Then, out of the blue, she felt feathers brush against her wing. Next to her, Soarin tensed as he glared at the offending wing. Then, Rainbow lifted her head and looked at him.
"Uh, Soarin? Why did you..."
"I DIDN'T MEAN TO!" Rainbow sidestepped a little, taken aback by Soarin's abrupt interruption. A sly smile worked it's way onto her face. Turning to a blushing Soarin, she put her evil plan into action.
"Are you sure it was an accident, Soarin?" The intended reaction is what she got. Soarin turned as red as a tomato as his eyes widened.
"O.. of course it was a... an accident." Soarin stammered, trying to kill of his embarrassment and regain his composure. Rainbow suddenly started to laugh, warranting Soarin's attention.
"Oh, Soarin you should have seen your fa..." Rainbow was cut of as she turned her head and felt his lips brush hers. Judging by the look on Soarin's face, he was just as surprised. His shock was mirrored on her own face. The two turned away from each other, a light flush on their cheeks.
"RAINBOW, SOARIN, HURRY UP!" The two pegasi looked up to see Twilight glaring at them. Speeding up to a trot, they reached the group.
"Well here we are. We're taking a look at the new rooms." Rainbow looked over at Soarin only to look straight into his eyes. She quickly looked away from him. She may have been in love with him but that fact didn't help. In fact it only made it worse. The two followed Twilight and Spitfire to the room they'd be sharing. And froze the moment they looked inside. There was only one bed.
Rainbow turned her ears back and pressed them against her head. She turned her head to her friends as they started to snicker. and for the fourth time that day, her cheeks went red, as did Soarin's. Applejack was trying to hold in her laughter, tears forming in her eyes from the effort. Finally she couldn't hold it in anymore and collapsed. Tears streamed down her cheeks as the farmer rolled on the floor laughing.
"Oh, this is too funny. I'm sorry, Rainbow, but... HAHAHAHAHAHA!" The others, Wonderbolts included, started chuckling. Soarin glared at a chortling Spitfire. Rainbow narrowed her eyes and started to spread her wings as she glared at Applejack. The others had stopped and were looking at Rainbow and Soarin. Soarin was staring at Rainbow, horror covering his face. Flicking his gaze quickly between Rainbow, Applejack and Spitfire, Spitfire got the message.
"Rainbow, maybe you should calm down..."
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Spitfire was interrupted as Rainbow let out an ear-shattering screech. Applejack froze, her laughter dying as Rainbow charged towards her. Suddenly, the ice blue frame of Soarin planted itself in front of her, blocking Rainbow. The angry mare skidded to a stop in front of Soarin, still seething.
"Rainbow, calm down. She was just teasing." Rainbow's sides were heaving, her eyes still narrowed. As she looked past him at Applejack's terrified expression, her anger subsided. She lowered her ears in shame as Soarin gently placed his hoof on hers.
"It's getting late. We should all be getting to bed." Soarin and Rainbow looked up at Twilight, who was watching the two with a calm, gentle expression. Rainbow nodded, as did Soarin. But as the group went to their respective rooms, Rainbow had one thought circling in her head. This is going to be a long night.
