Two weeks had passed and I guess I'd been accepted into these ponies family. I was pretty much unofficially given the roll as baby sitter for

Tia and Lulu's. I'm always there for them, talking to them, reading to them, playing with them. However Sunny and Cosmos keep randomly leaving the house for some reason. I have no idea why and sometimes it leaves me to take care of Tia and Lulu doing things like making dinner. Oh well, I secretly love it.

"Sombra?" I heard Sunny call.

I turned around to see Sunny walk into the kitchen where I was eating a salad sandwich (tastes surprising better as a horse.) I swallowed a mouthful of sandwich and turned around

"Oh, hey. Something wrong?" I said.

"Nothings wrong, its just you know how your birthday is coming up tomorrow? And well I was wondering what would you like for your birthday?" Sunny said.

"Me? Oh, pfft you don't need to get me anything. Your hospitality's enough." I said.  Sunny leaned over the counter and smirked.

"Darling your like family to us, you've been doing so much for us these past two weeks. Look at it as a reward if you don't want a present.

Besides we have magic. There pretty much isn't anything we cant get you." Sunny said.

"well..." I said looking up at the roof. What do I want? The only thing I ever got for my birthdays were games and movies, but now I don't

know what to get.

"um I would like... I don't know." I said shrugging.

Sunny's jaw dropped open. "well don't say that if I don't get you anything for your birthday what kind of pony would I be?" She said.

"well I'll have food or something then" I said.

"Oh please I'm not just going to let someone have something trivial as food." Sunny said.

"You know some ponies starve so I don't really think it's right to call food trivial." I said.

Sunny rolled her eyes. "Tia and Lulu get spoiled way beyond what any other kids there age would get. I wan't you to be part of the fun too." Sunny said.

"What are we talking about?" Cosmos said walking in. He looked tired with bags under his eyes.

"What to get Sombra for his birthday" Sunny replied still looking at me puzzled.

"Well just get him what every boy wants. A day of peace away from you." Cosmos said.

I blurted out a laugh covering it up with my hoof. Sunny punched Cosmos in the shoulder.

"You of all ponies should remember that I had boys lining up from the block." Sunny said.

"Yeah well, me too!" Cosmos blurted out.

"You had boys lining up for you?" I said.

"Yes!" Cosmos said sounding insulted. "...Wait? No I mean no dammit! Who's side are you on!" Cosmos said pulling out a knife from a knife holder and pointing it at me.

"OK! I think someone just woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning." Sunny said calmly lowering Cosmos's leg.

Cosmos sighed. "Yes dear." Cosmos said.

Cosmos looked strangely at the knife looking at the gleam on the blade. "I know what to get you!" Cosmos said slamming the knife into the cutting board he was leaning on. I jumped back from reaction. Suddenly a small flash came from Cosmos's horn and he was gone.

Sunny looked around frantically. "Cosmo-! Grrr, what are you planning!" Sunny yelled running out of the kitchen and up the stairs.

This family's crazy. Pure and simple. I like that. I turned back around and got back to eating my sandwich the thought of what Cosmos was going to get me looming threw my mind.

Nothing besides a usual day happened later on. Played with the sisters, ate some food, read a book, did some cleaning. Nothing new or different happened.

The next morning...

I quickly woke up today compared to the usual slow yawn for half an hour then got up. It felt weird being 16... not because of what turning 16 men't in the eyes of everyone else but because... well I'm a pony. I didn't have my Dad walk in with a whole bunch of presents and a lit sizzler like he usually would... instead I'm here. I wonder if this is going to pick up soon.

I shrugged and tried not to think much about it after that. After I had a shower and got combed my hair I headed down stairs into the living room. As I kicked off the last step and moved past the kitchen I walked over to the living room.

Suddenly not more then a meter I heard loud moans from around the corner, and the sound of... humping? Going against my better judgement I peeked around the corner.

There ginormous... " I whispered as I watched... eh... Cosmos grind on top of

"what are you doing?" A voice said behind me.

I jumped. Trying to keep as quiet as possible I refrained myself from yelping. I turned around to see who it was.

It was Tia with a confused look on her face.

"Tia!" I said in a hushed voice. "What are you doing?" I said.

"I could ask you the same thing... Whats that noise?" Tia said leaning her head around the corner.

"Nothing lets go" I said dragging Tia across the kitchen floor.

"What are you doing? I want to see!" She wined.

"No you don't. Not for a long time years at least."

"Fine." Tia said.

I stopped dragging Tia and quickly she jumped on my back riding me like a cowboy. "Giddy up!" Tia said happily giving me a little kick in the side.

"Why am I the horse it's my birthday." I said walking up the stairs with Tia.

Tia was silent. "...Oh! Uh, Happy birthday!" Tia spat out quickly.

I let out a little huff. "You forgot didn't you?" I said slouching over.

"Well, uh, I mean I!... yeah. But I would of remembered!" Tia exclaimed.

"Uh-huh is Lulu awake?" I said.

"No she's still sleeping." Tia replied. "Hey, well are you excited for your birthday?" Tia said.

"Well I guess I am. I don't really know, I'm sorta... I feel a little off I think." I said.

"Maybe it's because you've never had a birthday with us? Like your more use to spending time with other ponies." Tia said.

"Yeah that must be it." I said looking off to the side.

"Well don't worry I'm sure my parents have something great planned for you." Tia said.

"Well yesterday your Dad seemed pretty excited about something. I mean one moment he was just threatening me with a knife and next thing you know he's talking about my perfect birthday present." I said.

"That does sound like him doesn't it?." Tia said.

Tia and I reached her room where we found Lulu under about 5 sheets of blankets.  We woke Lulu up (with a lot of effort) and were all huddled under a shabby tent we made using a thin sheet and a pole. We were eating chocolate biscuits and other unhealthy foods Tia had hidden in a box. I had to promise not to tell. We were also making up stories and sharing them with each other.

With a blink of the eye we were all teleported into the living room

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!" Sunny and Cosmos yelled.

The other two started laughing and cheering and I layed on my back wheezing trying to prevent a heart attack.

"happy birthday kid." Cosmos said standing me up giving me a whack on the back.

"I-i told you warn me next time you do that." I panted.

"And this time it was Sunny who did it." Cosmos said smugly.

"Funny" I said.

"Come on your party's awaiting. Oh uh and if you don't mind" Cosmos said leaning into my ear "were also celebrating Tia and Lulu's birthday today." Cosmos whispered.

"Huh? Why?" Well there birthdays are only in a few weeks and it's just a whole lot of running around we don't have to do." Cosmos said.

I took a look around the room. It was covered with banners with my name and the sisters. An everlasting amount of food was spread across the table that must of took ages of preparing. Confetti and things were falling from the ceiling with magic. On the floor next to the window there were presents strewn across the floor for the girls.

"This couldn't of been a last minute decision?" I said raising my eyebrow.

"Well it wasn't." Cosmos said looking off admiring his children playing together.

"Then shouldn't I of known about this? I mean I could of helped." I said.

"Yeah... Oh well that's the past now." Cosmos said.

"So your just going to tell them there celebrating there birthday early? Just like that?" I asked.

"No they already knew. They've known for about a week know." Cosmos said.

"And I wasn't told!" I said raising my voice.

Suddenly my voice couldn't be overheard when Tia shouted at the top of her lungs "come on lets open the presents" Tia cheered

"now hold on it is Sombra's birthday today. I think he should go first and leave you two later." Sunny said. A collective awe came from the two filly's.

"nah its fine. We could go from youngest to oldest." I said rubbing my ear.

"you sure? OK then. Lulu your first up." Sunny said.

Watching the little fillies tear open there presents really was something special. They got normal girl things like dolls and clothes. Lulu hugged and kissed her parents laughing from joy. Watching them being so happy made me wonder if I wanted kids... pfft im 16. Like I'd want kids now.

Tia tore open her last present and her smile was gone when she pulled out her present.

"Tia whats wrong?" Cosmos said.

Tia sighed. "its just that... well I didnt get what I wanted..." Tia said.

Cosmos rolled his eyes. "Tia your 8 years old. I'm sure one day you'll have your own castle. look I didnt get my Castle until I was 30." Cosmos said.

I let out a giant laugh and fell off the couch I was sitting on laughing. "What? You wanted a castle?!" I said.

"Well yeah I know it sounds stupid but I think it would be really cool to own one." Tia said getting very defensive.

"I'm sorry Tia it's not that I think it's stupid but, well your 8 years old. I've never heard of any 8 year old getting a castle for there birthday. Or anyone in general getting a castle for there birthday." Tia said.

Tia sighed. "Then I'll never get one." Tia said sounding hurt.

A part of me felt like it died inside. To see a friend sad on there birthday. I know it might sound like it should be different because I'm in a pony world were everyone is just happy but that's not the case. It's not perfect which is the sad fact and well even ponies get sad on there birthday.

"well I'd say you already have a castle" I said putting on a brave face. Everyone turned towards me only making me feel a little nervous.

"what do you mean" Tia said.

"well look" I said. I walked over to a cardboard box that had little bits of wrapping paper still sticky taped on. "This is your castle!" I said pointing to the box.

"That's a box" Tia said plainly.

"Ugh, well I know it's a box but it can be more than just a box. I mean if we got this box and put that there and get this even bigger box (believe me it was huge)" I said pushing it over to the 2nd box. "and then we put this on here and get this here and... does any one have any sticky tape?" I said.

"Theirs some in the kitchen. Ill go get it" Sunny said.

"and we can use crayons!" Lulu said holding up her new crayon set to me." Lulu said.

"Perfect! It's just what we needed." I said

"Ill go find some more boxes" Cosmos said. "OK Tia see. Were are all going to make you the best darn cardboard fort you ever did darn see!" I said to Tia.

"C-cool!" Tia stuttered stuck for words..

"and vuala!" I said sticking the last piece of tape on.

We all took a step back to admire what we had made.

"wow" was all Tia said.

It wasn't anything super amazing it was just one big cardboard room with two cardboard doors but it was big enough to fit Sunny and Cosmos in it.

"...Dibs!" Lulu called.

"hey, you cant call dibs on my castle!" Tia yelled.

The two ponies ran into the cardboard box wrestling each other over it.

"you really are great with kids Sombra" Sunny said.

"I'm not as great as you though." I said blushing.

"No I mean it you have a knack for it. Luna has never been this social before. Not even with us. And Tia well you've improved her attitude" Sunny said.

"Hey stop that you'll put a tear in it" Lulu shouted.

"you sure about that?" I said to Sunny sarcastically. Sunny giggled a bit. "believe me you have.

"WAIT! I almost forgot your present" Right before my eyes Cosmos made a big bright rectangular red box appear in his hoof.

"here" Cosmos said passing it to me.

I was really excited now, apparently even Sunny doesn't know what it is. I sat down on my haunches and took off the top of what looked like a super long shoe box.

"Whoa" I said in disbelief. "your not seriously giving this to me are you?" I said.

"It's yours. I welded it last night." Cosmos said.

I looked back in the box a little scared of the power inside it. I wrapped my hoof around the grip and pulled it out lifting it above my head. It had to have been the finest Katana in the world. Well it was the only Katana I had seen in the world.

Everything about it was amazing. It looked like it had never been used, it probably hasn't! It was so sleek and shiny it made this ringing sound when it went past my ear.

"th-this is amazing thank yo-" I was cut off by Sunny taking the Katana from my hooves.

"Cosmos what were you thinking!?" She said in an annoyed tone.

"Oh please the boy's 16! Besides everyone needs one of those nowadays." Cosmos said.

"No they don't, not in this house at least. I mean what if he hurt himself?" Sunny said.

"Oh please its completely harmless. Let me show you" Cosmos took the blade from her hoof and tried to pull some ninja pose. In a blink of an eye he was pulling off the some weird sword swings slicing up bits of left over boxes. And then he cut himself.

"Ah! mother fucker" He said out loud.

Sunny stomped over to Cosmos smacking him on the back of the head and taking the sword from him. "see what you've done now? Stupid man." Sunny said.

"Sombra I'm sorry but I can not allow you have this. I have no doubt that you would take better care of this then my husband ever can who's 3456. But still its much too dangerous. You can have it when you know how to properly use one." Sunny said with a nod walking off.

Cosmos sucked some of the blood coming from his leg and tried to stop her. "honey, wait! Ugh, ill get it back for you don't worry." Cosmos said to me. With that Cosmos ran off calling Sunny some more pet names begging for the sword back.
