Chapters 'oof'
The ripels in a magical mirror seized a few seconds after a yellow coated mare flopped pathetically onto the hard crystal floor below.
It had been two years since the tragic events of the second return of Nightmare Moon and all was looking bright in the small town of Ponyville. Ponies bustled idly around the market place, most searching for the perfect gift for their special somepony, for Hearts and Hooves Day was only three days away.
In the back of it all, standing proudly at one million feet, a crystal palace shown brightly in the morning light, reflecting all sorts of colors off its surface. Inside were two ponies sitting in on of the 'oof'
Sunset landed face plant onto the crystal floor. "Welcome back, Sunset!" Said Twilight, as she picked up Sunset into a warm embrace. Sunset returned the embrace and planted a small kiss on her forehead before returning to a standing position. Although she was a little wobbly.
"I have a surprise..." Twilight said with a small smirk on her face and worry in her eyes," Just don't freak out"
Sunset gulped at that remark, not noticing the worry in Twi's eyes.
"Ready?" Twi said, as Sunset nodded she called out,"NYX!!" As it echoed down the hallway, Sunset's ears went down from the loudness. As she was still woozy from the trip back to Equistria. "oops. Sorry." Twilight said plainly, an apologetic smile on her face. Sunset replied with an annoyed frown.
Wait. Sunset thought. Who's Nyx? Is she like a new friend or som--
A small 'oof' interrupted her thoughts. That sounded like... A filly? Sunset thought. "I'm coming!" yelled the... Filly? As the filly came closer, Sunset could tell she was an unicorn. Her mane was a dark purple and her coat was an even darker purple. She wore glasses, a light blue headband, and a purple vest.
Must know Rarity. Sunset thought, giggling internally."Who's this?" Sunset said, couching down to her height. "this is Nyx" Twilight said "my... 'adopted' daughter." Twi said patting Nyx on the back, giving her the signal.
Before Sunset could question Twi's 'daughter', Nyx started taking off the outfit. She started with the headband, moving on to the glasses. Nyx kept her eyes closed and moved onto her vest. Nyx hesitated. She has never had to hide her secret for a while, now she was showing it to Twilight's friend
As Nyx removed the vest and opened her eyes, Sunsets mouth fell to the floor. It was like that for a few moments. Sunset was staring at alicorn filly with cat slit eyes. Sunset shook her head and rubbed her eyes to see if she was dreaming.Of course I'm not. Sunset thought shocked out of her mind.
"Uh... Twi..." Sunset tried to speak but couldn't. Twilight's worried smile turned into a concerned frown, her head fell slightly trying to look at Sunset. "You okay, Sunny?" Twi said, her voice mixed with concern and shock. Twi kissed Sunset on the lips. Sunset instantly shot up, with a small blush on her face. She shook her head and spoke,"When did you 'adopt' this alicorn and why didn't you send me a message when you did?" Twilight only giggled and Nyx had a giant smirk on her face from when Twilight kissed Sunset.
"Well... It's a long story." Twilight said " Come on lets get some tea and I'll tell you it. Sunset complied and followed them, keeping an eye on the little alicorn filly.
Sunset sat up from her bed, she noticed her marefriend wasn't in bed. Must already be eating breakfast Sunset thought. As she got out of bed she herd a slightly evil giggle coming from next door. As Sunset entered the hallway she noticed it was still dark outside, which made the hallway slightly frightening. Must've got out of bed early... She thought, her inner voice growing slightly worried, probably just wanted breakf--
Her thoughts were cut short by a devil-ish laugh coming from Nyx's room. Followed by a slightly loud groan of pain.
"Nyx? Are you okay?" Sunset said, worry in her voice.
The childish laugh became a full grown Celestia laugh. This worried Sunset because she knew about Nightmare Nyx, she liked to call it. Those laughs were followed by a gasp from Twilight. "Nyx?" Twi spoke softly, but worry in her voice. This was then followed by her scream "NYX!!"
"You really loved you?" Nyx said, although instead of her soft child-like voice, it echoed. By this time Sunset had peaked through the door, watching Nyx's shadow as it grew taller and taller. Sunset couldn't see Nyx because she was on the other side of the door.
"Wow..." Nyx continued, "You are very, very gullible" she snapped on the last word. Sunset saw her shadow start moving towards Twi, as she backed. Sunset wouldn't let anything happen to Twi, so she shot through the door and slammed it straight on Nyx's face. She then jumped in front of Twi.
"Sunset!" Twi said happily. Sunset was wearing a big confident frown her face (It doesn't sound very confident though). Her eyes soon were pitch black besides from the red glow of hatred in her pupils. "It's so great for you to be joining us..." Twi's voice soon became distorted and Nightmare Nyx had a devious smile planted on her face.
Sunset's heart dropped. Twi? Sunset thought, as she started turning around slowly to face Twilight. Sunset felt like she was about to explode when she saw Twilight growing and becoming a purple nightmare moon. "T-Twil-light?" Sunset stuttered as she backed away from Nightmare Twilight. She soon reached Nightmare Nyx. She stopped as she felt something sharp hit her backside. When she turned around, Nyx had a very big magical sword facing her. She looked at Twilight who also had a magical sword, only bigger. Sunset accidentally backed up into a corner. I'm gonna die. Sunset thought I'm gonna die by the one I love and by the one she loves.
Sunset stood still to except her fate. She was then greeted by two sharp swords on her stomach. The pressure increased. Sunset then felt her flesh being exposed to the oxygen. She gasped at the pain. Nyx began a countdown.
"One"
"Two"
A distorted smile formed on her and Twilight's face.
"Three"
The last word was rushed but or Sunset time went slow as the metal went through her. She coughed up a chunk of blood. Staring at Twilight with a look of distress. But all Twilight could reply with was a slow-motion transition from beautiful purple eyes to terrifying devil eyes. Sunset slowly closed her eyes as she fell to the floor. Then everything went red and orange, with a hint of lavender perfume....
Twilight yawned, getting up in the morning was a pain in the flank. She felt someone holding on to her, tight.She just smiled Wish I woke up this snuggly in the morn-- But what Twi saw when she turned around made her frown. Sunset was holding on to her really tight, but not just a normal tight, really tight.
She had tears slowly rolling down her cheeks as she slept. Her eyes were shut tight as if she was a filly around lightning. Her breathing was frantic and she was mumbling.
Is she having a nightmare? Twi thought, Sunset's mumbling got louder and Twi could finally understand a few words that she was mumbling.
"I'm here...." Sunset mumbled a few more words out, paused, then continued, "Twi----light?" She barely even whispered Twi's name, with a worried tone.
Twilight could only stare with confusion, shock, and worry. Is she having a nightmare about... me? Twi thought, worringly. She put a hoof to get Sunset awake. She pulled it back when she saw Sunset's release it's tensed up state and her heart beat slow extremely. While releasing Twilight from her hugging prison, another batch of tears rolled out of Sunset's eyes. Then, suddenly, she shot up from her sleep and gasped for air.
She felt her chest frantically and let out a sigh of relief, laying back on the bed and shutting her eyes in the process. She peaked through one eye to see Twilight, staring at her with extreme worry and shock. Sunset chickled, "I have to tell you my dream, don't I?" Twi nodded slowly, trying not to break eye contact. "Promise not to tell Nyx." It wasn't a question, it was a stern order, "I p-promise" Twilight stuttered, trying not to look distressed, but it wasn't working. Here we go.... Sunset sighed, hesitating a little. "Well... It started with me waking up.....
"... Then I guess... I died." Sunset hesitated, tears being held back in the corners of her eyes as she bit her lip. All Twi could do was hold he hooves to her mouth as she let listened, letting out a small gasp once in a while. Sunset looked away as she saw Twilight's turning from shocked to a concerned mother-like expression. Sunset was looking at the bed sheets the entire story time, fiddling around with the sheets.
Twi surprised Sunset when she suddenly hugged her as tightly as she was holding holding her (Do you understand sentence?). Sunset slowly melted in to the hug, letting the tears she had been holding in roll down her cheeks. She closed her eyes and let her thoughts control her.
What is wrong with you?! She thought, letting out a sigh, "Your supposed to be the strong one! Now your crying in the arms of your dear Bookworm! She let another batch of tears run down her face.
What are doing! Twi thought, let her own tears roll down her face,You should do much more than hug you mistress! She sighed in distress as the tension started to get to her head.
They shared the embrace for a moment. Sunset chuckled, making Twi do a confused face. "What am I doing..." Sunset said, looking into the fireplace, which looked as if it hasn't been lit in years. "It was just a dream and I'm freaking out about it.... I'm weak..." Twi gasped.
"Your not weak!" She said, pulling Sunset away trying to look her in the eyes. Though, Sunset would just look away from her in shame.
"Trust me... I am..." She half whispered.
Twilight's face broke into a giant grin, but still had worry in her eyes, "If you were weak..." She hesitated at the thought,"Then you wouldn't have been able to save my life at the changeling invasion."
Sunset thought about it,"I'm selfish then..." She said in a mumbling tone, her voice getting a little grumpy.
"You wouldn't have give in me my alicorn powers back after, you took them out of Chrysalis?
"Then.... I'm a...." Sunset thought about another insult about herself, but couldn't think of such. "Then your nothing bad , you are one thing...." Sunset's ears went down just a little." Your a hero ." Sunset's ears perked up, hero? The word echoed in her head as she gave Twilight a confused look. Twi just giggled,"You saved a princess of Equistria! You saved all of us, according to Celestia!" She was so enthusiastic, it made Sunset flushed and give a slight smile. Then hugged Twi again,"Thank you..." Twi just smiled, "Your Welc--" She was cut off by a young filly yelling down the hallway, "Come on, guys! Your breakfast is getting cold!" They shared a laugh for a moment "We'll be right there!" Yelled Twi, making Sunset's ear twitch. Sunset snickered snickered and did a playful punch to the arm.
"Alright..." Twi started, pausing to listen for anymore shout outs,"We should probably get ready for the day." She finished with her getting and brushing her tail against Sunset's muzzle. Sunset blushed at the sent of lavender on her muzzle. She shook her head snapping out of her trance,"Oh, Yeah! That's probably a good idea..." She said getting out of their bed, walking to the bathroom with Twilight.
Sunset had a happy smile on her face, but on the inside there was a sick sensation of her and Twi weren't alone...
Nyx's night wasn't even close to being better than Sunset's. She had a nightmare that she hadn't have in a long time. But a little different...
Nyx sat up, blinking a few times at the bright light. Well, she tried to get up. She found herself tied to, what looked to be, a stone chair. "What the.." Nyx mumbled, looking around for anyone but there was no sign of anyone. "Okay, we're just gonna ask you a few questions." Said a scratchy, but female voice. It sounded a little like Rainbow Dash...
"W-what questions?" Nyx asked, getting frantic from the fact she was in a dark room with the only light source being a lamp shining directly at her face, tied to a chair, and a mysterious voice about to ask her questions,"Why am I tied to a chair?" She was starting to panic. "Your in a chair because we don't want you to... harm anyone." she cleared her throat,"Anyways, did you have any harmful plans against Ponyville or Equestria?" Nyx was shocked at the question, "What?!? No I hav--" She paused, rethinking her life, she looked depressed,"Yes..."
Suddenly the room burst open as she felt a singe of pain go down her back. She winced as she felt her body change. Moments after the pain, she felt herself in a comfy bed. But her body wasn't very comfy. She felt pain all along her body, as she tried to get up. She noticed her body was larger than usual, her was no longer in her face but flowing in a majestic manner, and she had band-aids all over her body. It almost looks like she was.... Her thoughts paused as Celestia, Luna, and Twilight walked into the room. "Nightmare Moon..." Celestia said as she sat down on the edge of Nyx's bed.
Nyx's eyes went wide. this has to be a dream... But I didn't wake up from the pain. Nyx gulped as Luna and Twilight sat down, but she stood in confusion as another pony entered the room. She had a fiery mane and a yellow coat. She was wearing a evil smile, Nyx looked at the princess' with a worried and confused eyes. But what greeted her were intimidating glares, and dark red eyes.
Sunset sat down next to the princess' and Twilight. Their glares were burning at Nyx's chest. No, they were literally burning her chest. Nyx looked down and felt the pain from singeing her fur to burning her flesh. It was burning towards her heart. She felt every moment of the pain that went through her body.
She suddenly felt very tired and exhausted, her eyes felt heavy. Celestia's horn started glowing. Nyx was starting to feel an even larger pain in her head, then the one in her gut. She shot up as soon she heard someone whisper in her head. Nyx gave Celestia a confused look, but Celestia's smile just kept growing. "You'll never be loved.." whispered Celestia, as she shut her eyes and her horn glowed brighter. Nyx looked up at Celelstia as her face grew distressed. Twilight and Luna joined Celestia, their horn grew as bright as Celestia's.
Nyx felt herself go limp as her breathing started to slow and her chest grew in pain. She groaned softly at the pain in her chest. She looked at the three, her eyes went as wide as she could open them. What she saw in front of her was one of the most important part of her body....
Her heart...
Nyx gasped for air as she clenched her chest. She was sweating and a new batch of tears rolled down her cheeks and onto her pillow. She looked frantically around the room, only to see a dragonling sleeping soundly in his bed. She sighed and sat back on her bed, trying to forget what she just witnessed. I'm gonna have to have a serious talk with Luna.. She thought, chuckling a bit.
Nyx noticed that it was the middle of the night. She sighed snuggling back into bed, only to realize that her sheets were covered in sweat and her pillows were filled with tears. Nyx sighed,"I guess I'll just get a snack..."she mumbled under her breath, her face was full of irritation.
As Nyx walked down the stairs to the kitchen, she felt a small pinch of pain in her chest as she took her first step down the stairs. She looked down, only for a memory to fill her brain. She breathed heavily as she remembered seeing her heart outside of her body. Breathing in a controllable manner, that Twilight taught her, she calmed down. She finally got the guts to look down, finding a medium sized cut placed on the left side of her chest. Sighing, Nyx turned around to go to the bathroom and clean the cut.
Her heart stopped when she saw the figure standing behind her.
"What brings you here at this time of the night?" Spike said, in a stern brotherly voice.
“Uh oh…”Nyx said.
Nyx stared at her older brother with complete shock and worry. Spike was wearing a very stern expression, which quickly turned to worry.”What did you do to your chest?!” Yelled Spike, trying to keep his voice quiet enough to not wake up the sleeping mares down the hall. Nyx looked at her chest,”Oh… I just... um... woke up with it” Spikes expression turned suspicious.”What’re you doing up this late? How did you get the cut?” Nyx sighed and looked down, shaking her head.
“I woke up with the cut...”She said, hesitating a little,”..and I had a nightmare.”
Spike sighed, “There’s nothing to worry about, Nyx, It was just a bad dream. Now let’s go get you cleaned up.” Nyx looked up, a smile planted on her face. She then winced, as she accidentally put a hoof on the cut. Chuckling nervously, she said,”Let’s just get rid of the cut.”
As they walked down the hall towards the bathroom, Spike shuffled nervously. Should I ask her… Spike thought, trying to think about what to say. As they reached the bathroom, Spike stopped at the door and asked, ”Wanna tell me about that dream?” Nyx froze.“Um…”Nyx hesitated, trying to think of a way to explain the crazy dream that occurred last night.”I guess. It’ll be pretty confusing though…”
Spike smirked,”My life is confusing with you and Sunset here.” They both shared laugh at the comment. The dragon and young alicorn entered the bathroom, Spike grabbing needed equipment from the cabinet to clean the cut. Nyx sat on the counter, shuffling awkwardly at where to start. Where to start… Maybe at the beginning of the dream, dumbo, Nyx glared at herself internally as Spike brought up the materials.
"Begin."Said Spike, as he pulled up the step stool and sat on it next to Nyx.
“Well… It started with me sitting in a stone chair…”
As Nyx told the purple dragon her dream, with only a few pauses when Nyx winced from the pain of the alcohol on her chest, he cleaned the cut with shock, fear, and confusion on his face.
“...and then I woke up grabbing my chest.” Nyx paused and thought for a second.”Guess that’s how I got my cut.” Spike let out a small chuckle and stared at Nyx with confusion,”How in the name of Celestia would you get a cut this big with only your hoof?” Nyx looked at the cut again. It was fairly large, but not too large. It dug pretty deep, only past the fur and skin. A small blush formed on Nyx’s face,”Well do you have a better idea?” She said it in a sarcastic tone which made Spike facepalm.
He put on a giant smirk,”Actually, I do” Spike said it so clearly, Nyx's face filled with surprise. “Since the Princesses were sending burning glares at you, you could have magically burned your fur in your sleep.” Nyx stood there in surprise, her jaw reaching the floor. Spike had a blank but stern frown, a small smile slowly forming. They shared the stare as if they were having a staring contest.
Nyx shook her,”Well… I guess that sorta makes sense.” Spike snickered at Nyx’s reply, going back to fixing her cut. Why would I have a nightmare about Sunset, Nyx thought, She was so startled at first. Nyx laughed slightly as she remembered Sunset’s face, but shortly getting cut off from the wince of pain that went down her gut. She then shivered remembering the sight of her own heart, When did my mind get so dark?, she shook the image out of her mind as Spike placed the bandage on her chest.
Nyx felt her cheeks heat up as she stood up,”Thanks for helping me clean up Spike. You’re a great big brother.” Spike smirked at the comment, pulling Nyx in for a hug.”Don’t mention it. Speaking of which…”Spike paused, thinking of how to say it,”You do have to tell Twilight about it, maybe even Sunset.”
Nyx froze. crap… “What!? I can’t tell Sunset, she’ll think I’m a jerk!” Spike put on a stern but worried frown.
”If you don’t tell them they’ll get curious.”
“B-But she can’t know! She’ll think I’m--”
Spike held up a claw, he sighed,”You guys have both been in a terrible situation.” Nyx stared at him, confused beyond belief. Spike took the chance to continue.
“Before you came along, Sunset was sort of a… bad guy.. She was one of Celestia’s star students, but all she wanted was glory and power.” Nyx was even more confused, It looked as if she was just hit be air and thrown a few feet, ”The portal she came from leads to the human world, she lived there most of her life, till she came back and stole Twilight’s crown. When she put one the crown in the human world she turned into a she-demon. As what Twilight has told me, 'The Magic of Friendship' saved Twilight and Sunset from her evil form.”
Nyx stood there, mouth agape. How am I supposed to reply to that? Nyx shook her head, putting her hoof to her forehead.”So she relates to me by turning into a she-demon?” Nyx asked, getting a little frustrated. “She wanted to take over Equestria, just like you did when you were Nightmare Moon.” Replied Spike, a small smirk formed on his face.
Nyx thought for a second,”I guess that’s true.” Nyx smiled slightly,”I guess I can relate to that.” Spike smiled, looking at the clock in the bathroom,”Let’s go get some breakf--” Spike was cut off by the door opening. “Well, good morning.” Said Sunset, as she stepped into the bathroom,”Were you guys gonna take a shower?” Twilight followed behind Sunset, but soon froze once she saw Nyx’s chest. Nyx eyes widened, they then turned worried as she looked at Sunset. Nyx lipped ‘help me’, as Spike backed up away from Nyx.
“Oh My Celestia! What happened to you?!” Sunset jumped out of the way as soon as Twilight galloped towards Nyx, her face filled with confusion and shock. Nyx tried to grab Twilight in her magic, but then she remembered that she couldn’t use magic that easily. Instead, Nyx ran under the alicorn and behind Sunset,”Grab her, Sunset!” Yelled Nyx in a very frantic tone.
Quickly, Sunset grabbed Twilight in her magic. The room went silent, the only sound was the rapid breathing of Nyx and Sunset’s magical sound.
“Okay.... mom.” Nyx said, slowing her breath,”I’ll tell you at breakfast.” maybe..
Twilight, slowly nodding, was hovered to the ground by Sunset. Twilight walked over to Nyx, sitting down and giving her hug. “You better..” She smiled and nodded.
"...and know we're living in this castle, with you." Twilight said a smile on her face. Sunset couldn't respond, she was still trying to process what Twi just said. "And, all this happened.... While I was gone?" Sunset said, a shocked expression on face.Nyx just giggled and stared."Well now that you know I'm Nightmare Moon...." Nyx said "Will you not hate me?" A small smirk on her face but worry in her eyes.
Sunset looked at them both. She never relished how adorable Nyx was. She sighed "You know what? I'll never hate yah!" As Sunset finished up those last words, she grabbed Nyx and pulled her into a noogy war. Twi just laughed at them, happy that there getting along.
I kinda like this kid! Sunset thought. "Alright you two! Let's get some rest." Twi said, a devious smile formed on her face as she got up from her pillow. "I know Sunset would definitely want to go to bed after that ride here." A small blush formed on Sunset's face. Right when Twi said that, she lost the shock she had from the story and instead got the returned feeling of being woozy and dizzy. "I guess that's a good idea." Sunset said, rubbing the back of her neck."But I'm gonna grab a snack first." And awkward smile on her face.
"Okay just don't destroy anything" Twi said, giggling at the thought of Sunset managing to burn down a crystal tree manor. Sunset just rolled her eyes and went downstairs for a quick snack.
Though Sunset was gonna get a snack, her mind was like a waterfall. Images of Nyx as Nightmare Moon kept popping in and out. I wonder what it was like when she was Nightmare... Sunset thought.
"Hey" said a squeaky voice. That voice made Sunset jump and almost hit her head on the cabnet her head was buried in. When she turned around a little Nyx stood before her. "Hey, shouldn't you be in bed?" Sunset asked, a suspicious smile formed on her face.
"Couldn't sleep. Plus I herd you got in a bit of trouble yourself in the past." Nyx said. A devil-ish smile formed on her face, which made Sunset shiver. " Something about a... She-demon?" Sunset blushed, "Well.." Sunset began, her blush intensified. "I'd.. R-Rather keep that t-to myself." Her blush was now as red as Big Mac's coat.
"Oh Come on. I to.d you I was Nightmare Moon, So spill the beans!" Nyx whisper yelled.
"But what if I wanted to eat the beans instead?" Sunset said, a confident smile on her face.
"Then I will keep pestering you until you spill them. I'll start tomorrow in the morning." A very weird frown formed on her face. Although it wasn't a frown, it was like a smile but a frown at the same time. What is wrong with this kid? Sunset thought, a determined smile formed on her face. "Deal?" she said plainly, holding out a hoof. "Deal" Nyx replied, shaking her hoof.
