Sunlight Shimmer lives in the human world with her older sister Sunset Shimmer (the human counterpart). She's a tall, tomboyish girl with short blonde hair and feels insecure about her own physical image, which is why she is constantly bullied at school.

That is, until she moves to a new city with her sister and her aunt.

She joins Canterlot High, but feels weird when her sister, who is introverted, is actually able to make friends on her own and she's left out eventually. The meeting of a young disabled CHS student and the recent discovery of Equestrian magic with him will forever leave a mark in her life. Later, she will find out the shocking story that the boy has hidden from her and she will learn many more from the Equestria girls.
