Chapters In an Awkward proPosition
Moondancer stood outside of Princess Twilight Sparkle's castle in Ponyville. Her hoof froze an inch away from knocking on the door. In her bag was a box of chocolates and a wrapped gift. In her hoof was a bouquet of roses. She grumbled to herself, realizing only now at the last minute that she looked like a walking Hearts and Hooves Day cliche.
"Stupid," she chastised herself. It had taken all of her courage to get her here from Canterlot, only to fail at the finish line. She lowered her hoof and was about to turn to leave. The door opened.
"Moondancer?" Spike asked, surprised to see somepony just outside the door as he opened it.
"AH! Oh! Uh, Hi. Spike," Moondancer greeted nervously. Spike looked at the flowers in her hoof. It was Hearts and Hooves Day. He didn't need to be a detective to arrive at the reason for her visit.
"Are those for me?" he asked with a cautious amount of sarcasm.
"Uh, no. Sorry. Actually, um, is um, uh-" Moondancer stuttered.
"I'll go get Twilight," Spike said.
"No wait, I uh- Spike!" But it was too late. He had already gone to get Twilight. Moondancer thought about just running before it was too late.
"Moondancer? Moondancer, is that you!?" Twilight Sparkle said from inside. "Oh my gosh, it's so good to see you!" She grinned as trotted down from the stairs. She ran over to greet her at the door. "I'm sorry I haven't been back to visit you in Canterlot, I've just been-"
"Busy. I know," Moondancer said. "You're a princess. I get it. You're busy. You're a princess, and I'm just a-"
"Moondancer, what are these?" Twilight asked, looking at the bouquet of roses in her hoof.
"Uh, these? Um, these are Rosa-Gallica, a member of the Rosaceae flower genus. They're commonly found-"
"Are these for me?" Twilight asked with a hopeful inflection in her voice, and a twinkle in her eye.
"Uh, they uhm, um, if... you want," Moondancer said. Twilight took the bouquet of roses and smelled them.
"These smell wonderful! Thank you so much!" Twilight said, giddy as a school filly.
"You're welcome."
"Oh, look at me!" Twilight scoffed, "Keeping you on my doorstep like this! Please come in, I was just making tea."
"...Okay." Moondancer walked inside. It was her first time in Ponyville since she'd heard about the castle appearing. It was impossible to miss when she arrived at the Ponyville train station. It towered over everything around it. Its crystalline structure sat in stark contrast to the simple wooden structures of the rest of the town. And as she sat at the coffee table in the brunch foyer, it seemed to be even larger on the inside. Twilight trotted in, levitating the tea kettle and a couple of cups with saucers.
"Happy Hearts and Hooves Day!" Twilight said, acknowledging the holiday while taking a seat at the table.
"Hehe," Moondancer chuckled, shuffling her hooves beneath the table. "Oh, I um, I brought you these too." Moondancer opened her bag and put the chocolates on the table for Twilight and gave her the wrapped gift.
"Chocolates! And a gift!" It was Twilight's turn to get giddy. She opened the present. "Ooh a book!" She flipped it over to look at the cover. "Oh, Moondancer..." she breathed. Moondancer turned beet-red and she hid her face with her hooves. "The Pony Sutra!?"
"I'm sorry! It's stupid, I know! I don't know what I was thinking!" she apologized.
"No! It's not that. I just..." Twilight paused. "I just didn't realized that you felt this way about me." Twilight's hoof pulled Moondancer's away from her face and looked her in the eyes. "Thank you."
"Really?" she asked. Twilight nodded. She opened the book and flipped through a few of the pages.
"It's certainly the most... interesting book I've ever received," Twilight said, blushing herself. "I was never brave enough to buy a copy, myself," she admitted. "But I was always curious..." Twilight smiled. "Thank you."
"You're- you're welcome," Moondancer said.
"I'm- I'm glad to see you today," Twilight said, still holding Moondancer's hoof. "I've been thinking about- well, hoping that somepony would consider choosing me as their special somepony this year." Twilight leaned over closer to her, pursing her lips slightly. Moondancer closed her eyes and leaned toward Twilight-
"Twilight! I've decided that this Hearts and Hooves Day is the day!" Starlight Glimmer said, from upstairs. Twilight and Moondancer stopped immediately, snapping back to a neutral seating like foals caught being naughty. Starlight trotted down to the lower level of the foyer, over to Twilight. She got down on one knee and revealed a small jewelry box, preparing to open it. "Twilight Sparkle, would you make me the happiest mare in the world? Would you-" Starlight trailed off, looking at the flowers and chocolates on the table. "What's all this!?"
"Hearts and Hooves Day gifts," Twilight said.
"Oh my gosh!" Moondancer cried suddenly, hiding her face in embarrassed shame, "I'm so sorry! I didn't know you were already spoken for!"
"Actually, neither did I," Twilight said indignantly, giving Starlight a strange look.
"What!? Are you kidding me!?" Starlight scoffed. "I've been living with you for over a year! All those things I've done for you. The hoof massages. We've bathed together for pony's sake!"
"Yeah, but all this time I thought you were just my friend and student. My roommate at most!" Twilight said. "Besides, I thought that you were, you know, 'best friends' with Trixie!" Twilight said with a wink making air quotes.
"That doesn't automatically mean that we're lesbians with each other!" Starlight said.
"Oh PUH-lease!" Twilight laughed. "Lyra and Bonbon are 'best friends' and they're HUGE lesbians!"
"Hey Bonbon,"
"Yeah Lyra?"
"What do you want to do for Hearts and Hooves Day this year?"
"I dunno. Lesbian stuff, I guess."
*sigh* "Alright. I'll get the strap-on"
"And besides," Starlight continued, "I've been taking the route of subtlety. I've been playing the long-game. I've put in my time being your friend first, and then being friends with Trixie to try to make you jealous," Starlight said, and then pointed at Moondancer, "And then she just decides to show up one day with flowers and chocolates and expects a relationship!?"
"Hey!" Moondancer yelled.
"Alright, just CALM DOWN! Both of you!" Twilight yelled louder. She rubbed her temples with her hooves. "Look, I didn't expect this today, just give me a second here. For starters, Moondancer didn't just 'show up'! She was- she is one of the first friends I ever made. We have a lot of history. And you are a good friend of mine too now, Starlight. Maybe you should have been less subtle, or maybe I should have been paying more attention to your hints. But jumping straight to a marriage proposal is incredibly abrupt!"
"What about those times we practiced kissing?" Starlight said.
"It was practice!" Twilight defended.
Twilight," Moondancer gave her a dubious look.
"What? I really thought it was!"
"Twilight..." Moondancer raised her eyebrow, "Even I'm not that naive."
"Give me a break!" Twilight said "I just didn't think I would have two mares propositioning me on the same Hearts and Hooves Day."
On the far side of the room, the enchanted mirror glowed to life. The reflective surface rippled and shined as a yellow unicorn, with a red-striped mane stepped through. From standing her hind legs, Sunset Shimmer fell forward, spilling flowers and chocolates onto the floor. She blushed and became acutely aware that her clothes from the other world did not accompany her return, returning her to her natural pony state. After struggling for a moment to remember how, her horn glowed and she levitated the gifts, bringing them over to Twilight.
"Twilight! I decided to come back to Equestria after all this time, on Hearts and Hooves Day, because there's something I need to tell you!" Sunset Shimmer said.
"Oh no, " Twilight muttered.
"I'm- I'm in love with you Twilight," Sunset confessed. "And I have been for a long time."
"But what about the other Twilight?" Twilight asked.
"She's not you . I could never really love somepony that wasn't, well, a pony ," Sunset looked at the other two mares in the room, the other chocolates and flowers and engagement ring. "Am I... am I too late?"
"Yes!" Starlight and Moondancer said together.
"No!" Twilight said louder. "I mean, I don't know! I..." Twilight shuffled her hooves for a moment in confusion. She let out a defeated sigh, on the verge of tears.
"Twilight?" Sunset asked, moving closer to comfort her best friend. "Twilight are you okay?" Twilight just stared at the floor in silence. "Twilight, say something. Say anything."
"Why don't you have a seat?" Twilight suggested. "I'll go make some more tea for everypony. We have a lot to talk about" Twilight turned and walked upstairs to the second floor. She had three mares now! This was madness. But at least it couldn't get any worse.

"What the hell!?" Twilight said. She could hear music blaring outside. She trotted over to the door leading out to the second floor balcony. As she got closer, she could hear the music getting louder and louder until she stepped outside.

Twilight Sparkle added a few extra chairs around the coffee table in the castle library. She set out a tray of cupcakes and tea for her guests. Twilight took a seat on one side of the table. Across from her sat Moondancer, Starlight Glimmer, Sunset Shimmer and Trixie Lulamoon. Twilight took a few minutes to have some tea and a cupcake. It helped to give her time to calm down, and assess the situation.
"Alright," Twilight started. "Each of you are here because you want to be my special somepony."
"To the contrary, you want to be Trixie's special somepony," Trixie said.
"Uh, yeah. Sure," Twilight said. "As I was saying, each of you have-"
KNOCK KNOCK
"Ugh! What now!?" Twilight walked over and opened the door. Flash Sentry stood outside with flowers.
"Twilight, it's Hearts and Hooves Day. And I just-"
"JUST GO SIT WITH THE OTHERS!"
"O-okay!" He trotted inside and took Twilight's seat at the coffee table. Twilight walked over to her desk and got some paper to pass out to everypony.
"Now, as I was saying," Twilight continued, "You are all here in a bid to be my special somepony. Therefore, the only sensible way for me to make an informed choice is with SCIENCE!" Twilight cackled. "I will be conducting a series of trials for you all.... Tryouts , if you will. In the end, there can be only one, through a process of elimination. Starting now. The first test will be a written exam. Everypony stay in your seats. If you leave your seat you will fail. Understood?"
Everypony nodded.
"Everypony, take a pen," Twilight said. The four unicorns each levitated a pen across the room from Twilight's desk. Flash raised his hoof. "Ugh, yes Flash?"
"May I get up to get a pen?"
"If you leave your seat, you fail the test," Twilight said.
"But, how can I take the test without a pen?" he asked.
"I guess you don't."
"So I fail?"
"I'm afraid so," Twilight said.
"Oh... okay." Flash Sentry got up to leave.
"Everypony, shun the pegasus," Twilight said as he walked toward the door.
"Shun!"
"Shun!"
Trixie took a cupcake from the tray and threw it at the back of his head.
"Trixie! What is wrong with you! You don't just throw a cupcake at somepony!" Twilight scolded. Trixie pouted. "If you're going to throw food at him, throw a vegetable!" The door closed behind him as he left.
"There now, with that out of the way, we can move on." Twilight said.
"What will the test be about?" Starlight asked. Twilight looked at her.
"Levitating the pen... WAS the test," Twilight laughed. Starlight laughed. Everypony laughed.
*laughing in unicorn*
"Now, moving on," Twilight continued. "Since you are all my friends, I need you all to be able to accept me choosing somepony else and not resent me, or each other for it. While I know all of you, and you all know me, most of you have only just met each other for the first time today. Therefore, you will be spending the next several days getting to know each other." She pulled out a chalkboard on wheels and began to draw each of their cutie marks in a rough circle, an equidistant spacing from each other. Then she drew line between each of them, forming a pentagon with a star inside.

"BEHOLD! The Pentagram of Friendship!" Twilight said. The other mares gasped in abject shock.
"Trixie does not trust polygons of emotion!" Trixie cried out. Twilight took the pointer from the tray and indicated at each of the lines on the board.
"Each of these line represent friendship. And by the end of the tryouts, you will all be best friends!" Twilight said.
"Oh no," Starlight gasped.
"What is it?" Moondancer asked.
"She means best friends ," Starlight said.
"Yes. That would be why she said 'best friends'." Moondancer replied. "Repeating words doesn't change them."
"I'm saying that she means 'best friends' ," Starlight explained, making air quotes. "Like Lyra-and-Bonbon 'best friends'." Moondancer's expression melted into horror.
"Oh no," Moondancer groaned.
After Twilight had previously reunited with her, Moondancer had gotten back in touch with her old friend, Lyra. After getting caught up with the mint-green unicorn, it wasn't long before she knew about her, and her 'best friend ' Bonbon.
"Trixie does not understand," Trixie said.
"Well, if the Lyra and Bonbon here are like the ones from Canterlot High, then it means that they're lesbians," Sunset said.
"Huge lesbians," Starlight added. Trixie did not yet grasp the full implication.
"Are you not?" Trixie asked the group. "Is that not why we are here? To be lesbians with Twilight?"
"Yeah, but you see all those other lines that don't go to Twilight?" Moondancer said. "She wants us to all be lesbians with each other !" Trixie's eyes went wide and she scoffed.
"Trixie does not have to stand for this!" she said, ironically, despite physically standing up.
"You know what, Trixie? You're right!" Twilight walked over to the front door and opened it. "You're welcome to quit at any time." She looked at the rest of the group. "All of you are. It would make things a lot easier for me." Trixie slowly sat back down.
"Trixie will stay," Trixie said at last. "Because Trixie knows that Twilight wants to be lesbians with Trixie the most!"
"That's super ," Twilight deadpanned as she closed the door. Spike walked down from upstairs, surprised to see the assembled group.
"Twilight? What's going on? Was there something scheduled today that I forgot about?" he asked.
"No. In fact, I'm going to need to clear my schedule for the foreseeable future." Twilight motioned to their guests. "These four ponies all want to be my lover, and it's up to me to choose which one," Twilight explained. "So I'm going to do what I do best, SCIENCE!" She pointed at her diagram on the chalkboard. Spike took one look at the assembled party, and the chart Twilight had made on the chalkboard, shipping beyond all reason.
"Oh-ho-ho- NO!" Spike said. "Fuck THAT with fries! I'm out!" Spike ran upstairs and quickly packed a bag. He ran back down and headed for the door.
"Where are you going!?" Twilight asked.
"Literally anywhere else," Spike said. "I can already see this train wreck coming from a mile away. And I am going to put as much distance between me and this as possible." And with that he walked out and slammed the door behind him.
"Well then, if the rest of you are staying...?" Twilight trailed off. None of the other mares budged. "Then I guess the next course of action will be figuring out sleeping arrangements."
"Dibs on Twilight's room!" Trixie said.
"No, no. We are going to do this fairly," Twilight said. She wrote everypony's names on Popsicle sticks and put them into a coffee mug. "Now, there are five of us, and only three bedrooms, so-"
"There are only three bedrooms!? But this place is massive!" Moondancer said.
"Trust me, you really don't want to try to understand the architecture in this place," Starlight said.
"So, as I was saying, again ," Twilight said, growing agitated. "There are five of us and only three bedrooms. Mine, Spike's, and the one Starlight's been sleeping in. Therefore, four ponies will pair up and there will be one odd pony out each night."
"Why do I have to share my room!?" Starlight said.
"Your room!?" Twilight asked back, bending the pointer stick. Both, reaching their breaking points. "You know what, Starlight? Let me explain something to you. You stole a bunch of innocent ponies' cutie marks, then you tried to do the same thing to me and my friends. THEN you tried to travel back in time and to destroy everything my friends and I ever worked for. And I gave you a pass on that ." Twilight leaned in, whispering into Starlight's ear. "I've put up with a lot of your shit. So you're going to share your room. And you're going to like it. Okay?"
"...okay."
"So, as I was saying, yet again," Twilight said with a huge, fake, terrifying smile. "I will pick out two names, and they will be together in one room for the night. Then I will pick out two more, and they will share another. The last name gets a night off to themselves." Twilight stirred the name sticks with her magic.
"I have priority on my own room, of course," Twilight said. "And Starlight will have priority on... her room. Which she will be more than happy to share." Twilight smiled extra-hard at Starlight. Starlight forced a smile back. Twilight walked back over to the desk. "Now then, the first two are..." Twilight pulled out a stick. "Trixie, and... Me... Okay. Fine."
"Yes!" Trixie pumped her hoof. Twilight grabbed another stick.
"The next two are... Trixie!? And me!? Again!?" Twilight pulled out the last stick. It said Trixie. "Why do these all say Twilight or Trixie!?"
"Trixie switched them while you were terrifying Starlight," Moondancer said.
"Snitch!" Trixie spat. Twilight glared at her, got the five original sticks and redrew.
"Okay, the first two really are... Trixie and... Moondancer." Moondancer shifted nervously in her seat beside Trixie.
"The next two are... Sunset and... oh, thank the stars! Starlight."
"Oh," Starlight sulked.
"Hey, it's okay," Sunset said with a smirk, "I don't bite... hard. "
"Awesome. I've got the first night off," Twilight said. "Now lets just get some dinner going. Spike!" Twilight shouted into the castle.
"Uh, Spike bailed, remember?" Starlight reminded her.
"Oh. Right. Okay, who knows how to cook?" Twilight asked. The other's looked at each other.
"Um, I don't know about dinner," Sunset said. "But I can make the most baller omelette you will ever know."
"Alright, Sunset Shimmer will have breakfast detail in the morning," Twilight said. "What about tonight?" Nopony else spoke. "Alright, we'll leave it up to the mug to decide." Twilight reached into the mug and pulled out Sunset's, then shuffled the others. "Dinner tonight will be courtesy of..." Twilight pulled out her own name. "Okay, screw it, looks like we're ordering pizza."
"Alright everypony, write down what you want, and I'll send out for it," Starlight said, taking charge of the situation, much to Twilight's relief. Each pony wrote down what they wanted and gave Starlight their papers. Twilight gave her some Bits to pay. Then she left to go pick up the food. Trixie walked Starlight to the door and waved goodbye. As soon as she was gone, Trixie closed and locked the door.
"Ah ha! Another competitor eliminated!" Trixie cackled.
"Unlock the door, Trixie," Twilight said. "I want my food. And I don't have the energy to deal with any more of your antics right now."
Trixie begrudgingly unlocked the door and groaned. Twilight sank into her seat at the table.
"Um, Twilight, are you okay?" Moondancer asked.
"No. I'm hungry," Twilight said.
"I mean about... all of this. Are you angry?" Moondancer motioned to the room of ponies. Twilight sighed and rubbed the bridge of her nose.
"Look, I know you all love me, or at least that you're all in love with me," Twilight sighed. "And, honestly, I love you all, too."
"Yes! Trixie knew it!" the azure pony cheered.
"Yes, even you Trixie."
"Really?" Moondancer asked.
"Well, yeah," Twilight said. "I mean, Trixie is sexy in an obvious way. And I know deep down she's a nice pony when she's not... on ."
"Hmf!" Trixie wore a smug expression.
"And if it had been any one of you by yourselves, I would have been thrilled to have you as my special somepony," Twilight explained. "But to have all four of you propositioning me on the same day is just- overwhelming ," Twilight continued. "And now, for me to have to choose-"
Twilight chuckled and continued.
"Just a few years ago I couldn't even choose whom to give an extra Gala ticket. I was so worried about hurting somepony's feelings. But this! This is so much more significant than a mere ticket." Twilight sat back in her seat. The others waited quietly for Starlight to get back with their food order. After not very long, she returned.
"Sorry Sunset," Starlight said. "They had no idea what a 'meat-lovers' pizza was. So I got you a vegetarian special."
"Yeah, because that's the same thing," Sunset muttered.
Twilight met her at the door to help distribute the boxes and bags, setting them out on the table.
"Cheese sticks?" Twilight asked.
"Mine," Moondancer said.
"Bread sticks?" Starlight raised her hoof. Twilight pulled out a few bottles of drinks. "Let's see... juice, cider, and sarsaparilla."
Everypony sat at the table and ate. Twilight's gaze drifted across the table at the others. Most of them were watching her as they ate. Occasionally they would cut glances at each other, sizing up the competition. Moondancer averted her eyes as Trixie folded a slice of pizza in half and licked inside it to an obscene degree while staring at Twilight. Starlight nodded at Twilight's horn and attempted to deep-throat a bread stick, almost choking.
"So, uh, what are we going to do after dinner?" Sunset asked, trying to break the awkward silence.
"I don't know," Twilight said. "I haven't thought that far ahead."
"We should play strip poker!" Trixie said.
"Trixie, you're the only one wearing clothes," Sunset said, pointing at her hat and cape.
"..."
"I win!" Trixie said, triumphantly.
Twilight stood up and grabbed a book from one of the shelves behind the other mares. "Well, I'm turning in early for the night. I'm going to spend the evening reading. And I will see you all in the morning." As she walked to her bedroom, she thought, 'this is going to be an interesting week.'
Twilight retired to her bedroom early. Alone. Spike had wisely abandoned the castle until the ensuing storm had blown over. The four remaining mares in the castle's living room cleared dinner from the table.
"So what do we do now?" Moondancer asked.
"How about a magical battle royale to the death!?" Trixie suggested, bringing her horn to life.
"Now, now," Starlight Glimmer said, licking her hoof, "There's no need to fight." She put her hoof gently to Trixie's horn, extinguishing its light. "Because I think we all know who would win... Me."
"That's not what Twilight would want!" Sunset Shimmer said. "Look, I'm not a big fan of this plan either. But Twilight wants us all to be friends. And I trust her. I... I love her. And if this is what she wants- if she wants us all to be... best friends , I'm willing to try. For her."
"Hmf!" Starlight huffed. "Everything was going perfectly until you all showed up today. I can't believe I have to endure this too now."
"Well, I'm willing to try," Moondancer said.
"Of course you like the idea, Moonprancer ," Trixie said with a smug grin, "You get to be 'best friends' with Trixie first!"
"It's Moon Dancer , and I think I'd rather sit on an ant hill," Moondancer spat. "But I agree with Sunset. If this is what Twilight wants, I'm willing to try, for her ."
"Hmf, you will not want Twilight, or any other pony after you've been in lesbian with the Great and Powerful Trixie!"
"In lesbian!?"
"And neither will Twilight!" Trixie continued, ignoring her. "After just one night with Trixie, she will forget all about the rest of you!"
"I think we're getting a little ahead of ourselves," Sunset said. "We're all in this together. So the very least we can do is try to be civil. How about we all tell each other a little bit about ourselves?"
"I am the Great and Powerful Trixie!" Trixie said. "The greatest and most powerful magical equine that has ever lived !"
Starlight snickered. "You want to try that again?" she asked.
"I am the Great-"
"All right, I'm gonna stop you right there," Starlight said. "Here's the real scoop with Trixie here,"
Trixie glared at her.
"What? You think Twilight never talked about you before you came back?" Starlight asked, before turning back to the others. "So here's the deal; The first time Trixie came to Ponyville with her little act , she boasted that she had vanquished an Ursa Major."
The other two gave Trixie a dubious look.
"So two of her 'fans' went out, and actually found one, well, an Ursa Minor, and led it back to Ponyville for her to 'vanquish it '. Twilight Sparkle ended up saving the day."
"That was not Trixie's fault!" Trixie defended.
"Then she ran off, and came back a couple years later with the Alicorn Amulet and enslaved all of Ponyville."
Trixie covered her face with her hooves.
"Once again, Twilight was able to save the day, with the help of her friends."
"But I was under its evil influence, so that wasn't really my fault either!" Trixie said.
"Eh, that's kind of a grey area," Starlight shrugged.
"But then Trixie saved all of Equestria when the Changelings came back!" Trixie said emphatically.
"Yes, she and I worked together to save Equestria from the Changeling takeover. So I guess she breaks even."
"So what about you, Starlight?" Sunset asked.
"Well, I..." Starlight trailed off, "I guess you already heard about it from Twilight, about the whole, stealing cutie marks and almost destroying the world things." She looked at Sunset Shimmer. "What about you? How do you know Twilight?"
"Well, before Twilight, I was Princess Celestia's student. But I-" Sunset frowned. "I was too arrogant to see her wisdom in tempering my lust for power. So I ran away through her magical portal mirror," she said, pointing at the mirror. "Through there is another world, like ours, but the people there are different. They walk on two legs and wear clothes all the time and... it's weird.
"But after I was there for a while, I came back and stole Twilight's crown and Element of Harmony to use for myself to control the other world. But its magic turned me into a twisted demon when I tried to use it for evil." Sunset shuddered at the memory.
"Twilight saved me, and helped me start over. And since then, I've been working hard to make amends and help protect the people there from magical threats bleeding through from this world. I finally got up the courage to come back to Equestria to thank Twilight and... tell her how I really felt after all this time."
"What about you, Moondancer?" Starlight asked.
"The details of my life are quite inconsequential," Moondancer said.
"Oh, come on. It can't be any worse than time-traveling into the past, and almost unmaking existence ," Starlight said.

"Uh, nothing," Sunset said. "These are regular pancakes, anyways." Twilight sat at the head of the table with her mug of popcicle stick names. The last two mares made their way to the kitchen. Starlight helped Trixie to get downstairs with hoof wrapped around her with her cape like a security blanket.
"... and it was just Cocktopus tentacles everywhere..." Trixie rambled incoherently.
"What the hell is a Cocktopus?" Sunset asked from the stove.
"It's the aquatic relative of the Cockzilla, a subset of Cockasaur," Moondancer explained in a clinical tone.
"Is that like a cockatoo?" Sunset asked.
"Not even remotely," Moon replied.
"I've never heard of it," Sun said.
"Oh, don't worry. You will ," Moondancer said with a smirk.
"Not a chance! You've used this for evil for the last time!" Twilight scolded, incinerating the enchanted Pony Sutra with her magic as she followed behind Trixie and Starlight.
"I shall have to be punished," Moondancer purred.
"It's okay. It's okay," Starlight assured Trixie. "It was just a bad dream. Twilight, a little help? Trixie had a nightmare and it's really messed her up."
"Help how? " Twilight asked.
"Like, a Memory Erasure spell?" Starlight suggested.
"You know I don't like messing around with mind magic," Twilight said. Trixie sat at the table and just stared at her plate.
"But she's so nice and quiet now. I'd say that it's an improvement," Moondancer said, taking a sip of her iced tea. "But that's none of my business."
"M-memory... erase?" Trixie mumbled, slowly looking up at Twilight.
"If... if that's what you need ," Twilight offered cautiously. "I could erase your memories of last nigh-" Trixie lunged across the table at Twilight, scattering plates and silverware. She grabbed Twilight's head and pointed her horn into her mouth.
"Whah ah yoo waiting foh!?" Trixie asked desperately, with Twilight's horn in her mouth. "OO IT!! OO IT OW!!!" Twilight tried her best to focus, setting the amount of time to erase with the spell. Her horn glowed inside Trixie's mouth.

O-zone scented smoke drifted out of Trixie's nostrils. She blinked a few times as her mind re-orientated itself. She was kneeling on the kitchen table in front of everypony. She looked down at Twilight, her horn still in her mouth.
"Oh Twilight," Trixie purred. "Trixie sees that you couldn't wait to get one of her Great and Powerful hornjobs !" Trixie proceeded to bob her head on Twilight's sensitive horn, loudly sucking and licking as she went. "Trixie doesn't mind showing off her superior skill in front of everypony for you! Because Trixie already knows that you love her the most!"
"Oh yes," Moondancer deadpanned. "This Trixie is much better."
"Ahem, breakfast is ready!" Sunset said from in front of the stove. Trixie pulled her mouth from Twilight's horn.
"Oh, Trixie already knows what Twilight wants to eat!" she said. She sat on Twilight's plate, laid back on the table, and spread her legs, presenting herself to her. Trixie rubbed her pussy right in front of Twilight and spread her lips with her hooves, making it dribble her arousal onto Twilight's plate. "Dig in!"
"Can I get a new plate, please?" Twilight asked.
"Trixie shall be your Great and Powerful dinnerware!" she said.
"If you insist," Sunset said, flipping a potato patty out of the hot oil onto Trixie's belly.

"Why do I get the feeling that my Heal spell is going to be getting a lot of use this week?" Twilight groaned as she finished up with helping Trixie's burn. "There. Good as new."
"Kiss the boo boo?" Trixie asked playfully, laying on her back on the floor.
"There is no more boo boo !" Twilight said.
"Kiss the boo boo." Trixie repeated, no longer a request. Twilight rolled her eyes.
"Fine." Twilight leaned down and kissed Trixie's tummy. Trixie pushed Twilight's head lower into her crotch.
"Now lick the boo boo!"
"Mmf! NGH!" Twilight squirmed away from Trixie's hoof. Her nose was wet with Trixie's juices. "Dammit! My breakfast is getting cold!"
"Oh, it's still hot for you," Trixie pointed at her crotch.
"Ugh!" Twilight left her in the living room and went back to the table. Twilight leaned over her plate to smell her breakfast.
"What do you think?" Sunset asked. Twilight took another whiff and wiped her nose.
"All I can smell is Trixie's pussy now."
"And you love it!" Trixie said from the other room.
"...Gimmie another hot potato patty," Twilight said.
"Trixie will behave!" Trixie yelped, scurrying away.
Twilight and Sunset ate quietly. Starlight and Moondancer had already finished eating while Twilight saw to Trixie's burn. They bused their dishes and began to clean up. Twilight ate quickly and efficiently, anxious to wash her face properly. In any other context, she might have even enjoyed Trixie's scent. But it was not a good aromatic pairing with breakfast food. As soon as she was clean, Twilight walked into the living room and retrieved the mug with all the name sticks.
"Okay, new assignments," Twilight called out, beckoning the others to come join her. She checked to make sure that the sticks hadn't been tampered with, and then randomly drew two. "Moondancer and... Starlight Glimmer." She pulled out two more. "Sunset Shimmer and... me. Trixie, you're by yourself this time."
"But Twilight, Trixie is a virgin and wants her first time to be with-" Twilight cut Trixie off.
"No. None of that," Twilight said. "This is a different assignment. Today you will all go out shopping. Each pair, and Trixie, are going to go shopping for gifts for the other ponies. So each pair will buy three for the others. Trixie, you don't have to get four. You don't have to get anything for me."
"But what if Trixie wants to get something for you?" Trixie asked.
"Hey, it's your Bits. I won't stop you," Twilight said. "No flowers. No chocolates. Nothing generic. Make it special somehow." She looked at the other pair. "Starlight, Moondancer, I want you both back alive . No disintegrations!"
"As you wish," Starlight said. She and Moondancer left the castle to complete their assignment.
"Trixie is the best at getting gifts!" Trixie declared, leaving after them.
"What about us?" Sunset asked.
"Oh, us?" Twilight said with a smirk. "We're going to the bed,"
"Oh, really?"

"Mmm, nice!"

"Wait, what!?"

Twilight Sparkle and Sunset Shimmer stood outside of the Ponyville Bed Bath & Beyond home goods store.
"Not what I was expecting," Sunset grumbled.
"So what if Twilight doesn't choose either of us?" Moondancer asked Starlight as they walked through the marketplace.
"I think it's more likely that she'll choose one of us," Starlight said, looking at some of the displays. "Most likely me."
"But Trixie is sexy in an obvious way," Moondancer said. Starlight sucked in a breath.
"Ssss, yeah," she admitted.
"And none of us know anything about Sunset, really," Moondancer said.
"Heh, I know a few things," Starlight said, reminiscing on the previous night. She could feel herself getting warm and giddy.
"Your tail," Moon said, motioning to Starlight. Star blushed and quickly lowered her tail. "But what I mean is we don't really know what her personal history is with Twilight, especially while they were in the other world together."
"I guess that's true."
"So what if Twilight doesn't choose either of us?" Moon asked again.
"Well I guess I'd still be her student..." Starlight said.
"Would you be able to even stand that? Living in the same place while Twilight consorts with another mare? With me possibly?" Moon asked. The question gave Starlight pause.
"... I don't know. I never really thought about that. I just always figured that..."
"That you'd win?"
"Yeah... I guess I couldn't stay there. I'd probably go to Canterlot. See if Celestia's school is hiring. Or maybe travel with Trixie."
"If she doesn't choose Trixie."
"Right. What about you?"
"I'd just go back to my home in Canterlot, too. But what if she doesn't choose either of us?" Moon asked. Starlight could see it at the corner of Moondancer's eyes. A glint of doubt. "I mean, if she chooses Trixie and you don't have anypony. And I don't have anypony..."
"What? Do you want us to be each other's backup marefriend?" Starlight asked.
"Hm? Oh! Oh, that's a way better idea than a suicide pact!"
"What!?"
"Nothing. Hey, do you think Twilight would like this?" Moon said, holding up a dress from a market rack.
"Eh," Moondancer shrugged. "What about Sunset?"
"I have no idea what to get her. What about Trixie?"
"We could get her a timeshare," Moondancer suggested.
"I've enslaved a town of ponies and almost unmade existence. But that is the most evil thing I have ever heard."
"Thank you."
"Wait, who says we even have to buy something? We could make something!" Starlight said. "We're both brilliant ponies. We could invent way better stuff than these vendor trinkets!"
"Okay! But let me get just one thing before we head back," Moondancer said, poking into the book shop.
"These are perfect!" Twilight remarked on the two items she and Sunset had picked out at the home goods store. "But what to get for Moondancer?" she asked.
"Probably a book," Sunset said.
"Hmm, maybe." They walked down the way toward the book shop in the market place.
"Twilight, listen," Sunset said. "You know I would never disagree with you in front of the others. But I have to ask you, is this really the best idea? Pitting everypony against each other like this?"
"That's not what I'm doing," Twilight defended. "We're all getting gifts for eachother because we love each other."
"It's a competition."
"That is not my intention."
"It doesn't matter what your intention was. That's what it is going to be perceived as by everypony." She put her hoof on Twilight's shoulder. "Take it from somepony who's manipulated others in the past. From somepony who's been manipulated. Remember the Battle of the Bands?"
"I appreciate your concern. But don't worry," Twilight assured her as they walked into the bookstore. "I have a plan."
"So did the Sirens," Sunset said under her breath.
"What book would she even want? That she hasn't already read?" Twilight wondered as she started browsing the aisles.
"Ah, here it is!" Twilight heard Moondancer's voice from the other side of the aisle. Twilight peeked through the gap and saw Moondancer show Starlight a copy of the Pony Sutra.
"Why that little-" Twilight muttered. "Sunset, we're leaving." She hurried them out of the shop before the other two could spot them. "I know what to get Moondancer."
"Where are we going?" Sunset asked.
"We need to visit a friend of mine," Twilight said.
Trixie hastily boarded her chartered pegasus chariot bound for Canterlot. She didn't have much time to get there and do what she needed to do in time to make it back. And she only had one chance to get this right.
Starlight led Moondancer downstairs in the castle to the laboratory in the basement.
"Now we're talking," Moondancer said. "So, what should we make first? The potion, or the device we discussed?"
"The potion is easy. Let's get that out of the way. Then we can focus on getting the device built and tested." Starlight said, checking the clock.
"So this is Sunset Shimmer," Rainbow Dash said, eyeing up the orange unicorn standing outside of her cloud house. Twilight had given her Walk-on-Clouds spell and teleported them up there. "Last time I saw you, you were stealing Twilight's crown." Sunset frowned and looked away in shame.
"That was a long time ago, Rainbow," Twilight said. "A lot has changed since then." She put her hoof around Sunset and held her closer to her. "She's changed."
"It's true," Sunset said.
"Well, if Twi vouches for you, then I guess you're cool in my book. So what brings you here?" Rainbow asked.
"Well speaking of books, I was wondering if I could have your Daring Do book," Twilight asked.
"Which one? I have them all," Rainbow said with pride.
"I mean your Daring Do book. The one-of-a-kind?" Twilight said. Rainbow Dash added a crimson blush to her color palate. She darted inside and appeared a few moment's later with a plain brown paper bag.
"If anypony asks, you didn't get this from me," she whispered.
Twilight and Sunset Shimmer teleported back down to the ground walked back across Ponyville to the castle. They walked into the living room to wait for the other to return. But when they got there, Starlight and Moondancer were both hard at work tinkering with the magic portal mirror.
"What are you doing to the mirror!?" Sunset screamed.
"It's fine! It's fine!" Starlight said, affixing the augmentation to it. "We didn't break it or anything it still works just fine."
"Better, even!" Moondancer added.
"What did you do?" Twilight asked.
"Oh, you'll see," Starlight said, beaming with pride. "Just as soon as everypony gets back,"
"Well the only pony left is-"
"THE GREAT AND POWERFUL TRIXIE has returned!" Trixie announced from the doorway. "Bearing gifts!"
"Fine. Let's get this over with," Twilight said. "Starlight, we got you a plastic mattress protector from Bed Bath & Beyond."
"I know how messy you can get," Sunset said with a smirk.
"Um, thanks." Starlight blushed.
"Trixie, we got you some Poo Pourri," Twi said. "So now your shit will literally not stink."
"As if Trixie needs such a thing!" Trixie said, hastily grabbing the bottle.
"Moondancer, we got you a Daring Do book."
"Ugh, fiction !" she sneered.
"Trixie got Moondancer some Moonshine from Sweet Apple Acres," Trixie said.
"Okay," Moondancer said, looking at the mason jar of distilled alcohol.
"And Sunset some Tequila from Appleloosa," Trixie continued. "To make Tequila Sunsets!"
"Are we all getting name-themed liquor?" Sunset asked.
"No. Trixie got Starlight a pet!" Trixie said.
"A pet!?" Starlight said.
"Yes! Trixie found this delightful little shop some years ago where she bought the Alicorn Amulet. But this time, she got a Mogwai!" Trixie presented the tiny furry critter to Starlight. "We could bring him to go see a midnight movie and feed him popcorn before we give him a bath."
"You will be doing none of those things." Twilight said, taking the Mogwai away from her. "This is going back to that shop. What about you two?"
"We modified the mirror portal for Sunset," Starlight said.
"We made it so that you can retain your form, instead of changing when you go through," Moondancer explained. "Optional, of course. Just a simple flip of a switch."
"It was actually pretty easy. You had already done most of the work with what you'd already built, Twilight." Starlight said.
"That... actually has some interesting uses..." Twilight said.
"Because people didn't freak out enough from a talking dog..." Sunset said.
"We got you a book, Twilight" Moondancer said as Starlight gave Twilight the Pony Sutra.
"I'm not falling for this again," Twilight said.
"Enchantment-free!" Starlight added, opening the book.
"Well, okay then-"
"TRIXIE ALSO GOT TWILIGHT A BOOK!" Trixie shouted, diving in front of Starlight, shoving the book at Twilight. Twilight looked at it. It appeared to be a rather plain-looking, but sturdy, notebook. It was worn and weathered along the binding. Twilight opened it.
"Dear Diary," Twilight read aloud, "My sister, Luna, was particularly troublesome today-" Twilight's eyes went wide. "YOU STOLE PRINCESS CELESTIA'S PERSONAL DIARY!?"
"Tada!" Trixie said with a flourish of her cape. Twilight's mind was aswim with questions. Mostly she wanted to know 'how'. How, in broad daylight, did Trixie manage to infiltrate the Canterlot Castle, and pilfer what ought to be one of the most closely guarded books in the world? But Twilight was surprised that in that moment, it wasn't anger that gripped her.
"You know what?" Twilight said. "I'm not even mad. I'm actually impressed."
"Thank you!" Trixie squealed and her eyes sparkled.
"Speaking of books, Moondancer, you should read yours," Twilight said. Moondancer turned the Daring Do book over in her hooves.
"Daring Do and the Hoof of Argon," Moondancer read the title and looked at the synopsis on the back.
"Who new Daring Do wanted two do you to? Daring Do new! Daring Do new as you to flu threw the sky blew. The blew see was a site two see as you flu free, and she said, 'Daring Do me '!"
Moondancer looked at Twilight.
"This makes my brain hurt."
"Just check out the first page, at least," Twilight said. Moondancer opened the book and vanished inside in a flash.
Rainbow Dash had forced Twilight to read her Daring Do fan-fiction before. And while the Pegasus's imagination was as colorful as her mane, her writing was the visual equivalent of chewing on aluminium foil. And now Moondancer would have to slog through it to the end to get out. Twilight smirked. Payback was a bitch.
"Oh, Trixie, we made something for you, too," Starlight said. "It's a sexifying potion that makes you utterly irresistible to the pony that you desire."
"Trixie needs no such potion!" Trixie scoffed before grabbing the bottle. "Twilight, you should read the most recent entry in the diary. Trixie thinks that you will find it quite enlightening. Especially once you see that Trixie is the SEXIEST, MOST ATTRACTIVE EQUINE THAT HAS EVER LIVED!" she yelled before quickly chugged the potion and promptly passed out on the floor.
"Just kidding," Starlight said. "It's a standard sleeping potion."
"Huh." Twilight looked at Trixie, out cold on the floor, and shrugged. Her curiosity had her flip through the pages of the diary to the most recent entry, hastily scrawled in pink crayon,
"How long is she going to be out?" Twilight Sparkle asked Starlight Glimmer as they looked at Trixie, passed out on the floor.
"Four hours. Six at most," Starlight Glimmer answered, as Twilight used her magic to levitate the unconscious Trixie into the air and carry her. Starlight and Sunset Shimmer followed her upstairs. Twilight put Trixie to bed in Spike's bedroom. She put the enchanted copy of Rainbow Dash's fanfic on the night stand in Starlight's room.
"I need to return this diary to Princess Celestia," Twilight said.
"Can I come with you?" Sunset Shimmer asked nervously. "I- I haven't seen her since I ran away all those years ago." Twilight frowned.
"I was planning on scheduling time for you two to be reunited, but for now I was really hoping to just sneak in and out without drawing too much attention," she said.
"Twilight, you're a princess. Attention follows you," Starlight said.
"I could distract her," Sunset offered. "I really want to see her again. I guess I didn't realize just how much until just now."
"Fine. But we can't stay too long. Starlight, we should be back in time for dinner." Twilight checked the clock. "A late dinner. Trixie should be awake by then. And Moondancer should be finished with her punishment. Do you think you can handle preparing it on your own?"
"Of course!" Starlight said.
"Alright Sunny. Let's go," Twilight said.
"Where? The train station?" Sunset asked, following her outside.
"Where we're going, we don't need trains." Twilight lifted Sunset into the air with her magic and spread her wings. With a couple of mighty beats, they were airborne.
"Twilight, this feels weird," Sunset said from her purple aura. Twilight levitated the yellow unicorn along beside her as she flew.
"What, the magic?" Twilight asked.
"It's not that," Sun said.
"Scared of heights?"
"A little. But what I mean is, you giving me a ride like this," she said. "You're a princess. It feels weird having you be my... chauffeur ."
"This is the fastest way for both of us to get to Canterlot. We can't wait for the train schedule. And I can't teleport us both that far safely. Even by myself, that kind of distance is difficult," Twilight explained. "And besides, I haven't been a princess for very long. I'm still just Twilight. It's not like I'm-" Twilight trailed off.
"Princess Celestia?" Sunset asked.
"Are you nervous?" Twilight asked.
"A little. Yes. I just hope she's not still mad at me."
"She never was," Twilight assured her.
"How do you know?"
"I know her. And you do too, Sunset. You know I'm right."
"But what do I say?" she asked.
"It doesn't matter. You don't have to say anything. You just need to be ready."
"For what?"
"For her to forgive you."
Starlight watched the pair become more distant in the sky until they were barely more than a speck. She turned and went back inside, closing the door.
"Right. Dinner." She scoured through the kitchen pantry and the refrigerator, gathering her ingredients. "Dinner, dinner."
"Back already?" she wondered, trotting back to the foyer. "No wait, they wouldn't have knocked." She walked to the door and opened it. "I'm sorry sir or madam, but Princess Twilight will be unavail- Sunburst!? "
"Hey Starlight," the yellow unicorn said from outside the entrance. His creme-colored hoof brushed his two-tone orange mane out of his bespectacled, teal eyes.
"What are you doing in Ponyville?" Starlight asked. "Princess Twilight doesn't have any visitors scheduled all week."
"Actually, I came to visit you," he said. "I haven't come to Ponyville since the Castle appeared. And it's been a while since the last time you came to the Crystal Empire. I had some time off and I figured, why not stop by and surprise you."
"Oh."
"Is... it a bad time?"
"No. Well, kinda. But not really. Please, come inside!" she said, letting him in.
"Wow! So you live here?" he asked.
"Yeah, with Princess Twilight and Spike," she said, omitting recent developments. "But they're both out for a while. So it's no big deal. I'm actually just getting dinner prepared. Want to help?"
"Sure!" He followed her into the kitchen and they both set to work cooking.
"You ready for this?" Twilight asked Sunset as they stood outside of Princess Celestia's throne room. Sunset nodded under the hood of her robe. Twilight opened the doors.
Trumpets blared.
"ANNOUNCING PRINCESS TWILIGHT OF PONYVILLE!"
"Holy fuck! Right in my ear!" Twilight scolded the guard.
"Sorry, Your Highness."
"Twilight, my most faithful student!" Celestia greeted, rising from her throne "What brings you to see-"
For the first time in her life, Twilight saw Celestia at a loss for words, nearly stumbling on the throne's stairs. Her legs trembled.
"S-Sunset?" Celestia asked as her eyes glistened.
Sunset threw back her hood, and looked up at Celestia. For Sunset, it was easy to understand the origin of the idea of her divinity. It had been so long since she'd last been in her presence. So long that she had forgotten the feeling. Like a limb, numb from the cold. When the warmth returns, so does the feeling. But first, pain. The scars on each of their hearts ran deep. Each had grown numb to it. But now the wounds were reopened, to be healed at last.
But first, the pain.
Sunset Shimmer had rehearsed the scene in her mind so many times in her mind over the years. What she would say. How she would say it. But in that moment, everything she had planned on saying flooded out of her brain. She opened her mouth to speak. Her mouth was dry.
Her eyes were not.
No bow. No curtsy. No formality. Sunset shed her robe and bag and ran. She ran as fast as she could to her. Princess Celestia ran to her just as fast, meeting her in the middle to embrace her, enclosing her in her protective wing. There were no words. Sunset buried her face into Celestia's mane and bawled out her heartache loudly. Celestia wept silently as she held her and waved off the guards with her other wing. Even Twilight removed herself, closing the door to the throne room behind her.
Twilight wasn't sure what to expect. But it certainly wasn't that. In either case, it was clearly the closure they both needed. Twilight knew that if she were to have a lasting relationship with Sunset, this catharsis needed to happen first. Twilight shifted the weight in her bag and headed to Celestia's personal chamber. Twilight was the only pony allowed to enter Celestia's chamber without her. As far as she knew, not even Luna or Cadance had such privilege. She nodded to the veteran guards that recognized her and let her enter. Twilight placed the diary in Celestia's nightstand, with a note inside with a brief explanation, and apologizing for it's theft. Her task completed, she exited into the hallway once more.
Unsure of what to do while she waited for Sunset and Celestia to finish their reunion, Twilight walked the length of the hallway. At the far end, she hear noise coming from the other royal chamber.
"Bullshit! T'was a lag kill!" Luna spat, shaking her game controller in her magic.
"What are you smoking? Your ping is like, ten!" Spike said, sitting watching on the couch beside her.
"Thine team is shite!" she complained. "Must we carry thy team as well as the moon!?"
"She said from last place " Spike muttered under his breath. "Get the power-up!"
"We are not blind!" she said. "Somepony ELSE get on the control point!" she yelled into her headset.
"Reload," Spike advised. "On your right. Shit! Grenade!"

"Curse you P_Squ34k!" Luna said into her mic.

"Dark Soles." Spike put the game in and started playing. "Prithee, Spike, have thou taken our suggestion to court the new Dragon Lord, Lady Ember?"
"Hmff." Spike huffed. Luna waited a moment for an actual answer.
"Are we to accept that response to be a 'no'?"
"She's not my type," Spike said.
"Spike, a diplomatic tie with the Dragon nation would do wonders for easing foreign tensions."
"There's only one I have eyes for," he said.
"Spike..."
"Don't give me that tone," he said. "I don't need your pity."
"Unrequited forlorn pining is not attractive," Luna said. "T'is an indication of arrested development. Lady Rarity will never return your feelings. T'is futile to carry a flame for her so."
"You should use your future-seeing ability to play the Equestrian lottery."
"We need no divining ability to see such a thing." Luna turned and looked away. "We know that there is nothing that we can say to make you understand. Wisdom can not be taught. It can only be learned. In time, you will understand." Luna could only hope that time would come before he outlived his unicorn crush.
"..."
-Knock-Knock-
"Spike?" Twilight asked from the doorway, looking into the darkened room. The black-out curtains blocked all sunlight.
"Oh, hey Twilight." Spike waved. "Did you come to your senses and kick everypony out?"
"Uh, not yet. Is this where you're staying?"
"Yeah."
"Thine number one assistant is a superb player two!" Luna said.
"Thanks."
"You do know it's the middle of the day, right?" Twilight asked.
"We are aware."
"When do you sleep?"
"At night. We need to be asleep to watch over the realm of ponies' dreams," Luna explained.

"Stop her!" Sunset shouted from upstairs. But it was too late. Trixie dove into the mirror portal. Starlight ran downstairs along with Moondancer.
"We need to disable the modification on the mirror," Starlight said while Sunset tried to navigate the stairs barefoot. As soon as they turned it off, Sunset flashed in a brilliant light, turning back into a unicorn completely.
"Well, I know Trixie must be going through the same thing we did," Twilight said to Sunset, each remembering when they first transformed into a human for the first time.
"Should we go after her?" Sunset asked.
"Yes!" Twilight said, sitting down at the table. "But after dinner. I'm hungry."

"They never came back in from last night," Moondancer said. "I would presume that they are still in Trixie's caravan, parked outside."
"Oh." Twilight stood there for a moment, unsure of what to do.
"Do you want me to go check on them?" Sunset asked.
"No, no. I'll take care of this," Twilight said. She trotted out of the front door and made her way over to Trixie's wagon. She lifted her hoof to knock at the door, but paused at the last moment. She made her way around the side to the small window. The curtain was drawn, but there was a small space where she could see inside. Trixie was asleep in her disheveled bed. Starlight laid beside her with her hoof draped across the azure mare. Twilight walked back to the door. It was mid-morning, and she had a lot of plans for everypony. She needed to gather them all around the table inside to discuss them. She knocked and waited, giving them a few moments to rouse. The Groggy and Half-Awake Trixie opened the door a just crack.
"Yes?" she asked as she rubbed the sleep from her eyes.
"Trixie, I've got a great plan for today, and I need everypony all together. So I need you and Starlight to come back inside," Twilight said.
"Oh, uh, Starlight isn't here," Trixie said with a blush. "Why don't you search the castle and I can look around town?" Twilight rolled her eyes.
"Starlight, I know you're in there," Twilight said past Trixie. "Not to ruin the surprise, but I need everypony for the big 'final challenge '!" Trixie gave Twilight a strange look.
"What final challenge ?" she asked.
"Why, the big group orgy , of course!" Twilight said with a gleeful smile as she clapped her hooves. Starlight nudged Trixie aside and opened the door.

Starlight moved to step between them, but Trixie stopped her with her hoof, holding her back. Trixie turned to Twilight.
"Twilight... not to be mean about it but... you had your chance," Trixie said. "You had several. But Starlight and I are in love now. We're done with your Tryouts . We played our part. You played your game. And, frankly, You give love a bad name." Trixie and Starlight stepped back inside and closed the door. Leaving Twilight standing outside the wagon.

Twilight stepped away from the caravan and turned to walk back inside the castle. She felt like she's been shot through the heart. She had tried to come to expect the unexpected. Especially with everything that had been going on all week. Especially with Trixie. She had tried to envision every possible outcome to her Tryouts . What would happen with everypony by the end. Where they would go if she hadn't chosen them. Who they would go with. She honestly should not have felt surprised that Starlight and Trixie ended up together. She predicted that would be the case if she didn't pick either of them.
But what she did not predict was being beaten to the punch. She had practiced all of her break-up speeches for each pony. She had mentally practiced letting each of them down. She had a plan. But she never even conceived that she would be on the receiving end of the rejection.
"I wasn't prepared for this."
But there was still Sunset and Moondancer. Moondancer had a lot of history with Twilight. And she could always try to curb Moon's more... exotic kinks. But she adored her strong personality. She wanted her to be the lead in the relationship. And although Sunset wasn't as dominant, Twilight could help to improve that too, with time. "Alright girls! I've got some news, and a big plan for all of us. Today we're going to-" Twilight stopped in mid-step. Moondancer was in the middle of packing a bag. Sunset walked into the room with her own bag. "What's going on here?" Moondancer and Sunset exchanged looks.

Twilight smiled. Sunset smiled back. "And when I came back, you took charge and made this whole... game . You told everypony exactly how it was going to be and that excited me. But I don't know where that pony went when we were in your bedroom."
"Sunset..." Twilight tried.
"No, no, it's okay. I get it," Sunset said. "You're a princess. You have to be in charge. That's like, your job now. You have to step up. You have to make the decisions. And that's not what you want to have to do in a personal relationship. You'd rather take a break from leading and let somepony else take charge for once. Tell me I'm wrong."
Twilight didn't reply.
"But that pony is not me, Twilight. And I never will be," Sunset said. Twilight's head drooped.
"...I know."
"The other Twilight didn't have leadership forced on her. She strove for it. She has that drive to push herself. She may be human, but she's the lover I need. And I'm sorry that you had to go through all this for me to learn that."
"I- I understand," Twilight said. She looked at Moondancer. "And you?"
"I'm going with her," Moondancer said. "I'm curious to see this 'human world'."
"But you won't have your magic."
"Sunset's enchanted journal works over there," Moondancer said. "My enchanted book should still work as well. And besides, I'll be going in my pony form."
"And how are you planning on pulling that off?" Twilight asked.
"The device on the mirror."
"I mean, how do you plan on being there as a pony?"
"She'll be posing as my pet," Sunset said.

That evening, in Canterlot Castle, a lavender pony entered the throne room.
"Twilight!" Celestia greeted enthusiastically.
In what might have been mistaken for a prolonged bow, her head hung low as she walked slowly toward Princess Celestia. Anticipating a sensitive topic of discussion with her former student, she did not want prying ears.
"Guards, leave us," Princess Celestia commanded, waving them away with her gold-clad hoof. The guards exited as Celestia's gaze drift up past the approaching guest, looking for her companion. "Shall we be expecting a happy announcement, Princess Sparkle? Whom did you choose?" she asked.
"Nopony."
"Still choosing?"
"No."
"Do you intend to have a harem?"
"No. Is Spike around?" she asked, deflecting the questions.
"He has not left my sister's chambers since he arrived."
"Excuse me. I just came to let him know that... that he can come home now." Twilight dismissed herself and left. She walked down the hallway to Princess Luna's bedchambers. She prepared to knock when she heard voices inside.
"You're right! I don't need Rarity! This is so much better!"

"Can... can I talk to you out here for a minute?" Twilight asked.
"Yeah, sure," Spike answered, setting the controller down. Stepping out into the hallway he closed the door. "So? What's up? Is it safe for me to come home?"
"Yeah, it... I..." Twilight trailed off. "I didn't pick anypony."
"You rejected them all? That must have been tough for you," he said.
"Actually, they all left," she said.
"Oh. Oh. That's worse."
"Yeah. I came to talk to Celestia. But I wanted to let you know that it was over."
"Okay." Spike waited for Twilight to keep talking. Twilight just stood there for a minute, shuffling her hooves, unsure of what to say next. Spike broke the silence. "What is it?"
"I don't know," Twilight said. "Was there a lesson here that I was supposed to have learned?"
"I dunno. A pony in your bed is worth two in the bush? Be more honest with your lovers? Be more decisive? Maybe don't be a greedy bitch?"
"Spike!"
"Hey, look who you're asking!" Spike fumed. "You had four mares pining after you, and you're complaining to me. Me! "
"Okay. I guess I brought that on myself." Twilight sighed. "What happened? It used to be all so simple. Why did it all go so wrong?"
"Because you didn't take my advice," Spike said, trying not to sound smug. "When I told you it was going to be a train wreck. Why do you think I got the hay out of Dodge?"
"That's it? I should take you advice more often?" she asked.
"Couldn't hurt."
"I meant, what was the life lesson about all of this?"
"I don't know. I guess, too many waifus will screw up your life-fu?" he suggested.
"Well, it rhymes. So I guess that's the lesson," Twilight said with resignation.
"So, back home, is my bedroom..." He trailed off and scratched the back of his head. "Eh, how do I put this... Not sticky? "
"I... I might need to give it a once-over," Twilight said. Spike could see the sun getting low outside the window. He sighed and rolled his eyes.
"Well, I'll spend another night here while you clean up your mess. I'll be home some time tomorrow ," he said. He turned and went back into Luna's bedroom. "Ready for another round?" he asked Luna as he closed the door.
"We've put in Fighting Is Magic!" Luna said.
"Well, get ready to have your plot pounded!"
Back in the throne room, Princess Celestia watched Twilight walk into the throne room again with her head hung low. Celestia descended the stairs from the throne and met her in the middle of the otherwise-empty room. Twilight flopped her haunches down onto the carpet in front of Celestia.
"I didn't choose anypony," Twilight said to the floor. "I didn't reject anypony. They all left. Everypony rejected me," Twilight reported. Celestia sat beside her and wrapped her wing around her.
"No. Not everypony ." Twilight wiped her bloodshot eyes and looked up at Celestia. Celestia looked down at Twilight with that warm smile that always made everything all better. "I never doubted that you would find The One for you. The One pony that has always been there for you when you needed them most. The One that has always loved you. The One that had forsaken all others and waited for you to realize that..." Celestia pulled her closer to her, "they were The One for you, just as you are The One for them."
"Princess!?" Twilight scoffed. Celestia just smiled.
"Yes, Twilight," she answered.
"You- but, but why didn't you tell me?" she asked.
"That would have been unfair of me. To you, and to your suitors at the time."
"But- what about you?" Twilight asked. "How could you just let me... date like that if you felt that way? Didn't you- didn't that upset you?" Celestia smiled.
"Twilight, of course it hurt to see you do that as I felt that way for you. But it was my choice. It was my pain, and burden to bear. My dear, you are going to find that, as a princess, one of the key virtues to have is patience . Particularly if you are an immortal princess," she said. "Why do you think I made you an Alicorn?" she asked.
"Because of merit?" Twilight asked. Celestia snorted.
"Oh Twilight, I like playing pretend too."
"But you said you could never take a suitor."
"I could never take a mortal suitor, Twilight. I couldn't bear to outlive another spouse again. I feared that I would have to wait your would-be-wife's lifetime for you to realize that. After your partner had passed, I would have been there to console you. And if you took another spouse, I would have waited again. And I would have consoled you again. But I would have. I would have waited an eternity for you. Because I love you." Her large, alabaster wings enclosed them in a warm canopy of feathers.
"Celestia-"
"I would be yours, Twilight, if you would have me," Celestia breathed, erring closer to Twilight's face. Their whole world was inside of Celestia's enclosed wing. "If you would be mine?"
Of all the questions she'd been asked, or asked of herself, none had she known the answer for, with such certainty as this.
"...Yes."
Celestia closed the distance as her lips met Twilight's. All of Twilight's doubt and fears melted away. She could feel Celestia's warm breath against her cheek. She dared to open her mouth first. Celestia was happy to oblige the signal. Their tongues danced and played over one another inside their mouths. Celestia could hear Twilight's hurried panting in her ears inside the small space. Luna opened the throne room door.
"Tia, you need to lower the suuUUH-never-mind! " Luna spun on her hoof and walked back out, closing the door behind her.

She got up from her desk chair and walked over to the window of her castle in Ponyville. She looked to the silhouette of Canterlot, perched on the side of the mountain to the north. Twilight waited and tried to will the sun to set just a little sooner. But just as with boiling water, watching only served to make it take longer.
Twilight let out a flustered huff and trotted downstairs to the living room. She paced a bit until the diffuse light coming through the crystal windows dimmed to dusk. Twilight scurried onto the couch and took a seductive pose. After a moment, there was a flash of bright yellow light. Celestia teleported into the room. Behind the couch.
"Twilight?" Celestia called out. Twilight scrambled and climbed around on the couch to face her.
"Right here." Celestia turned to face her, greeting her with a kiss. Spike appeared at the top of the stairs.
"Here tonight, again?" he asked. Neither mare broke the kiss to acknowledge him. "Alright, fine! " Spike went back to his room and dug out his own enchanted chalkboard. After scribbling a few words, he vanished in a flash of blue magic. Celestia smirked.
"My sister has been quite congenial lately," Celestia commented. "I believe we have your number-one-assistant to thank for that."
"Don't make me think about that, please." Twilight said, trying to block out the mental image of Spike and Luna... getting busy .
"Alright. Tonight it's just you an me, my love," Celestia said as she kissed her again.
"Oh, by the way, look what I have!" Twilight said. She opened her bag and took out The Pony Sutra, giving it to her. Celestia smiled.
"Oh, we don't need this," she said.
"I just thought that it might give us some ideas to try," Twilight said with a coy grin. Celestia gave her back the book.
"Twilight, who do you think wrote that?" she asked. Twilight looked at author's name on the cover.
"Castiele," Twilight said. Celestia waited. Twilight sighed and smacked her forehead, recognizing the anagram.
"Let's not worry about any of this tonight," Celestia said. "Let's just have a nice, stress-free evening to ourselves." The mirror portal hummed and shimmered.
"Oh no," Twilight groaned. You just had to say it. Moondancer fell out of the mirror and Sunset Shimmer landed on top of her.
"Twilight! You- Oh, Princess Celestia!" Sunset did a quick bow, as did Moondancer. "Twilight, you've got to help me!" Sunset Shimmer said. "I'm pregnant! "
Twilight blinked for a minute, unsure of what Sunset meant by 'help'. She asked the most relevant question on her mind.
"Who is the stallion- er, father?" Twilight asked.
"You!" Sunset said.
"Um... no?" Twilight said. "You would need a stallion. And this may come as a surprise, but, I'm a mare."
"You're the only pony I've had sex with!" Sunset said. Twilight gave her a sideways look and then at Moondancer. "I mean, you're the only pony I've had sex with that had a penis!" Celestia gave Twilight a strange look.

"She's right, Sunset," Celestia confirmed.
"I tried telling her," Moondancer said.

So I have offered to adopt Sunset's foal. After all, you and I had talked about possibly adopting one day and... it seems that fate has given us a unique opportunity."

"We could combine our foal-shower with your wedding-shower!" Sunset said. Twilight glared at Celestia.
"That announcement was supposed to be a surprise," Twilight said.

"I feel like I'll never be able to eat food made in this room again," Twilight groaned as Moondancer limped out of the kitchen. Her horn glowed as she cast the Restoration spell on the room, undoing all of the damage since the last time she'd placed the spell upon it. It was like it had never even happened. But Twilight knew. She would always know. She could not un-see what she had seen.
"And you were concerned about a stain on the carpet," Sunset joked. "I feel like I've missed out on something."
"Would you like to see?" Moondancer asked with a seductive wink as she walked past. Sunset grinned and followed her upstairs.
Twilight sighed and walked back up to her own bedroom to clean up. She went into her bathroom and drew herself a bath, lit a few candles and climbed in with a book on her stand beside the tub. She washed the grime of sex from her mane and tail and then opened the book while she soaked.
"Ah, books. My first love."
