Chapters The ever faithful moon hung over Canterlot. You looked up on Luna's fantastic creation and took joy in seeing the light. As usual it was your closets friend in your line of work. It glows in such a beautiful manner, that it is a shame that so many ponies sleeps through it. Back to reality you take a look at the clock and notice that you have looked at the moon for a while longer then what was planned. With that in mind you quickly set your objective straight and start walking into the night. The wonderful night which is over Canterlot is soon taken away by the ever-shining castle and all the store ligths which never seems to be put out. This is Canterlot and not Manehatten, right? You think to yourself and decide to not get too caught up in all of this and try to pursue the quest, given to you by your commander. He wasn't really a commander per say, but he got his orders from the palace so you just had to listen to him. He was an ok pony either way.
The streets is starting to get smaller and more dirty then the most areas around here. The standard of life in this part of the city was bad, but not just 'normal' bad. If this was shown throughout Equestria, someone would get a bad reputation and it certainly weren't you. Good to see that you didn't lose track. You quickly take a sharp turn left and head into a small area. The thing is that this place looked like it was someones back yard and not your usual meet up place. But you knew he'd be there and so would his client. The little yard is not big, but it's room for two dumpsters and a small empty space which you would consider the meeting to take place in.
You hide between two dumpsters in one of the corners and await your target. Luckily for you, the dumpsters where placed in the end of the little yard which made it a great vantage point. Suddenly a brown earth pony appears. His mane and tail is red so he's a wierd sight. You make a mental note to tell the authorities after this, he wouldn't be too hard to find in a crowd. But it isn't him that you're after, it is the next pony who will walk through that entrance very soon. You didn't hunt earth ponies. They were not your problem as they were usually just involved in petty thievery.
There he is, a orange unicorn with a black tail and a grey mane. Seeing him makes you feel some sort of joy as this wasn't yet another mislead. He wore a black coat which is very dramatic for a stallion of his kind, but you are sure there is a reason he isn't only wearing it just for fun. The conversation between them is short but understandable. You look at your target and makes him out as a confident, yet scared fellow. He was afraid to be found but was ready to defend himself should that be an obstacle.
«And you're sure that I'm safe here?» The unicorn askes with a little bit of fright in his voice. He seems very paranoid, but he haven't lost hope just yet.
He knows we're after him. Well that dosen't matter know. He won't escape me , you think as you continue to follow the 'chat' and hoping, if not begging that the earth pony will leave. You really didn't want colleteral damage on this case. It would make too much of a mess anyways. You always worked outside of the force so if something went south, the help was too far away. You liked it like that. To demand the help of others just weren't your style, but helping other ponies never seemed wrong should it be an act from yourself.
«I will be right back with a map which shows where you can hide from those spellthiefs.» The earth pony had a big grin on his face. Like he had solved a thousand years old puzzle. Your group was known around Canterlot due to recent events which you really didn't like to think back on.
«Spelltheifs» The word made you a little furious. "Why do they keep using that name. I'm not stealing their spells, simply disabling them, " you defended yourself. It wasn't like many knew these spells, but you were one of them. You had spent too much time of your life in a book to take that kind of talk from a person living in the dark side of Canterlot. But who knew. Perhaps he would be a valid pony to have a chat with about some escapes done by different ponies. Many of those were on your list and you didn't like this third-party involving.
Again, you had talked to yourself for about 10 seconds now and you see that the only other living thing here is the white stallion standing on the other side of the little, squared place. The time to strike had to be now. You slowly creep out of the dumpsters posistion yourself so you're blocking the only exit to freedom except from the door but he wouldn't run that way. He wouldn't and have time.
Since the rules have changed since the original group was created, You now had to give him a chance to surrender. You calmfully speak up «So here we are?». He is really startled by the question as he turns around in a second and looks straight at you.
«YOU!» He knows who you are, which is nice. You make another mental note to wear a disguise next time as it seems you're a familiar face around town. It had led to a few difficulties before.
«So you really thought we weren't following you?» you kept your voice low and calm, you were ready for everything he could throw at you. He remained in silence. You scouted the rest of the yard with your eyes. In the corner there was some trash but you could make out an object he could throw. You should be ready for it as it seemed like the only thing he could throw at you for the moment.
«So are you gonna come voluntarily or do I have to make you?» Wow! That was such a cheesy line. He looks at you for a few seconds and the silence is really frusturation.
«No,» he said before his horn turns from its usual orange to a more darker orange and he picks up a barrel from the corners and hurls it in your direction. Why can't they just say "Oh wow, thanks! that would be a great idea," and come with you, you think as the flies towards you in a laughable speed. But it went according to your plan.
You quickly move to the left and dodge the projectile and you quickly use your horn to form a little bolt which shoots towards the unicorn. It hits him in the chest and he falls to the ground. Well they are easier to handle like this either way , you think as you pick him up and place him on your back. He isn't very heavy and you can easily carry him. You see the door which got closed for about 5 minutes ago open, and the earth pony steps out. He looks at you and your passenger and stares back at you in fear.
«Well, this is awkward» You say with a smile. «Don't worry, I am not after you». He turns around and walks through the door again. You had got a great view of him and it was just to write him in under 'criminal helper' and he would be gone from there in no time.
After a little walk you arrive at the station. You meet up with the jail guard.
«He will be out for probably the next day and night», you assure the guard. He shouldn't be a problem for now. You sit down and begin to write the formal report. A report dosen't seems so bad now. You make sure to give the credit to the other ponies on your team who gave you the information. You sat there, just for a little while, thinking how you could make the report more amusing. Your taste of reports weren't the one which would be written accordingly to the book of rules. No, a report should be something more. A way of telling with your own words how this situation was handled. You don't forget about your little friend back in the alley who went inside again. "One less to carry back here," you thought as you filled in the description and location.
You left the station and went home. The moon is soon about to switch place with Celestia's warm sun and this will mark a new day for some ponies but for you, it was time to get some sleep. You are just back home when it knocks at your door. You feel tired as you make your way towards the door. Who would be at your door at this time of day? You stop for a few seconds, thinking....Oh no.....it's work. Work wasn't as bad as one should imagine. You liked your job and the oppertunity was only given to a few. Though the could probably find osmeone else than you at this time of day.
At your door you find a yellow mare who hands you a letter. She turns around without a word and leaves the little place you would call an entrance. You follow her with your eyes as she cuts sharply around every corner and disappears quickly. You look down on your little package. The letter is with a royal seal which meant one shouldn't take it as a joke. You open it and hope for good news. It takes you about two seconds to realise that this is not good at all. «You are summoned to the castle.» This was very short but it had a clear message, more work. The feeling of more work without sleep was familiar but you didn't like it. You let out a sight before taking your coat on and left your home, in the direction of the royal palace.
The always wonderful Canterlot Castle was in front of you. The light beamed out from every window and of course the giant glass roof on top. Seems like it's light here every day and every night. Can't they relax just one day. You figured that you should stop looking at the castle and get in. If you were lucky it was just a minor problem and you could leave in less then an hour. You weren't as good dressed for a "royal visit" as you should have been, but if they wanted you to come at this time of day, they would have to deal with it. It was just a meet up with a messenger either way. It wasn't like the princess herself was going to be there. That would be foolish.....and embarrassing for you. But what could it be? What could be so important that you had been summoned to the castle to hear the words of the Princess if not the meaning of both if Luna was back in duty. You remembered the stories told to you from fellow members of the group about how Nightmare Moon had returned to Equestria from her banishment on the moon to once again abolish the sun. You thought it was some sort of trick so you just ignored it.
As you walked into the main hall (After being introduced with the guards on the way in) you got into a giant, white room. Your 'look' was probably getting noticed because every pony was looking at you. It wasn't like it was a few either. It looked like a party was being held and you were the guest of honour Well there goes my reputation with the upper class of Canterlot, You thought as you made your way to a little desk at the far right of the room. The stallion there, with a pair of guards over his shoulders, looked at you as you approached. Is it really that bad? At least I like it, You thought before putting on a smile to the stallion. He didn't seem so surprised about you visit but he seemed to be a pony who liked meeting other ponies to chat. Though this wasn't one of those times. You hadn't been summoned to the castle as often as you would like, but you figured it would be for the better. You didn't know if the outcome of this day would be positiv or negativ.
"I am here becuase of this", you show him the letter. It was written in a very beautiful manner. The royal seal was almost the top of the cake and showed that the letter had been sent from this building.
"Ahh, yes. Go up to the second floor and the first room on the left" He said with a tone that told you he really must like his job.
"Thanks", you said before noticing one guard behind you.
"Is this really necessary?", you turn your head and your eyes meets the guard. You tired to make a gesture showing how the importance of this was slightly non-existing.
"Sorry sir but I am asked to escort you to your destination." The guard outbursted, causing you to jump back.
So these guys can talk, well that's new, you think before walking up the stairs. I know I'm not famous but this was kinda drastic. As you walked up the stairs, a few things fell into your mind. Was this really the castle? It seemed more as an office building. A sort of fancy place for the upper class to lay cruel plans for its citizens. The old castle which you had read about when you were younger had a whole different look. It was the giant door which led to the main hall and there was the Princess or Princesses. You was always going to refer to this place as the 'back alley' in the upper class. A place which had to be cut of from the real castle to make it a little more secret.
You walk into a giant room with doors everywhere. You quickly spot the first door on the left and make your way to it. The guard stops next to it and you make your way in. The door shuts behind you. This was rather dramatic. Were you going to be slaughtered? Had you broken so many rules at your last mission that a royal voice had been sent to throw you out of the squad?
The room was dark but you could make out an appearance of a rather large unicorn....or a pegasus....or both. But that would only mean one thing.
"Please take a seat", she says before turning on the lights. You heart skips a beat as you realise what you thought shouldn't happend. You quickly bow to save anything that was left of your professionality. A brief moment you thought about the existance of said professionality.
"Please, stand up. I have an important task to give you", the white allicorn looks at you with a smile on her face. Well, you weren't going to be fired, unless that note included your new line of work which would still be an honor coming from one of the royal sisters.
"Please excuse me Princess, I didn't know I would meet royalty", you say as you sit down with a fake smile on your face.
"Don't worry about it", she calms you. "And sorry for the short notice", she takes a look at your clothes. You were really that bad, weren't you? Well, you had try to blend into the scenery of the dark part and yourself thought you ahd done it pretty good. You liked the coat either way so it was going to stay on for a while.
"No problem, your highness, It wasn't anything else to do either way" Except sleeping, The last part you mumbled and she didn't hear it. She continued with the reason why she had summoned you.
"Well, you must be wondering why I called you out here?" She gives you a suspicious look.
"Yes, yes I do your highness" If she was going to continue to wait it out, you would need a pillow.
"Well to be honest it is a bit out of your ordinary job." She says in a more serious manner. This didn't look very good. Was this a fireing in a more polite manner?
"Well, am I the right one?" This was probably going to take a while anyway so you could atleast jump on the 'dying to tell' train.
"Well you see, my student, Twilight Sparkle is currently in Ponyville with her friends to learn more about the magic of friendship." She continues and tells you the story about the weekly letters.
"So is there a probelm with her?" This better be going somewhere.
"Well both yes and no, the problem is that she had problems controlling her magic before and...."
"You're afraid it might happend again." You interrupt her. That might have been a bad idea.
"Yes, but this time it might be worse then the first time. Her magic has grown since then by alot."
"So what did she do first time and how young was she?" Finaly we are going somewhere.
"Well to put it short, she did magic that she shouldn't do as a little filly."
"Aha, But why me?"
"You are one of the 'spellthiefs' so you got your experience at countering magic. I want you to travel to ponyville and report to me about any changes." Ok, she is going to use the spellthief label to!? This is getting on my nerves.
"Ok, Princess. When am I supposed to leave for Ponyville?"
"In an hour. You just need to pack your things and you'll have to take the next ride to Ponyville." More time with me not sleeping. Wonderful.
"Is there anything else, Princess?"
"No, nothing else"
"Well, goodbye then"
You leave the room and turn to the guard. "Is she always this dramatic?". The guard just nods and you walk down the stairs and out off the Castle. Well this is going to be interesting. you think before breaking into a run for home. You had less then one hour, time to pack what was needed and get to the station. You quickly jumped through the door and into the bedrom. You flung a suitcase up on the bed and started to pack. Everything which was really needed had to come. The nice coat which no one liked but you did so buck them and books. More specific, magic books containing information of magic spells and the defence againts them. You quickly locked it, paid your respects to an old friend and made a run for the station. You had to look professional untill you were out of Canterlot.
The station looked very bad. It didn't seem to have been washed for a long time. You wouldn't stay there for a long time but it wasn't like that made the situation better. You saw your train, and it looked in better standards then the rest of the station. You started to walk towards it, but then you saw a familiar face approaching you. The same mare that had given you the letter back at your home. You looked at eachother for a minute before she handed you yet another letter. Again, without saying a word, she walked away. You just look confused around. Is that behavior really needed for the job? Was the lack of facial emotions a must for the job? It was starting to freak you out. Come to think it, your starting training had left you with a bad social life so maybe there was something about that.
You stood there with a luggage and a letter. It contained the royal seal but that didn't come as a suprise by this point. You decided to board the train before reading it. One less thing to worry about. You entered one of the cabins which had been ordered for you alone. It was a small sitting place but lacked the one thing that you could kill for right now. A bed. You sat down and made yourself comfortable, which was really hard as the seats were all hard. Even then you knew it wouldn't take you long before you fell asleep. Right now, sleeping on a dragon was counted as an 'ok' place. Before you lay down you sat there and examined the letter. The exitement was too big and you opened it to find a small message:
"Just remember she's not a criminal. Don't do anything drastic or unecessary againts her. PS: Got a house for you, talk to the mayor upon arriving at Ponyville".
I might enjoy this. Me not having to chase someone and just have to be ponysitting sounds ok. You lay down in the train and relaxed, still not managing to sleep because the trains are still awfully built. Your theory had probably gone wrong and it would be a sleepless morning towards Ponyville. But you looked forward to arriving at there more than anything.
Arriving at ponyville, you felt like it is something that the Princess didn't mention to you. She was very careful of talking about this unicorn's powers. She touldnt be that strong either way. You had locked away people who really tried to hurt other ponies with their magic, but only a few times had you encountered someone really strong. You hadn't slept in one and a half day now, which was really tearing its way at your powers. You arrived at Ponyville approximately midday. Now you just had to get your house and sleep. You could look after the purple unicorn tomorrow. You had just entered the main road in the town and walked towards the main hall where you'd hopefully find the mayor.
Suddenly you spot a pink earth pony looking at you. Many ponies did but she had a very special look. Her mane and tail was also pink and looked like cotton candy which was a bit out of the usual. You walked towards her but before you could get that far she jumped up in the air, probably in panic. She ran the other way and you just stood there. Not sure if you should give it a chase or not. Your body wasn't really that great after no sleep for a certian amount of time. You decided that it wasn't time to catch her now and you continued walking in the direction of the main hall.
You walked to the two doors and opened one of them. The room wasn't as big as in the Canterlot palace but it was big for this little town. You walked toward the desk where a brown stallion sat. He looked at you before greeting you. "Gooday sir, are you here to meet the mayor?" He said with a cheerful tone. Wow someone that actually didn't look or comment on my mane or tail or is slightly wierd, you thought while you quickly replied, "yes". You could get used to this place if just some of the ponies was like him. "It is in the door right there," he pointed to a door on the far end of the hall. You thanked him and made your way towards the door. You knocked four times before getting a reply. You opened the door and entered the room. You saw the pony who sat in the big chair and reckoned she had to be the mayor. "Good day" you said, try to hold a happy tone even though you wanted to go to sleep, very fast.
"Hello", she replied.
"Are you the mayor?" You had gone through one boring dialogue today, please don't let it be another one.
"Yes, I am. What is it?" She had a very aggressive tone but you were glad that this might hold the conversation part short.
"I am here for the house. I was sent by Princess Celestia." The only time you really had to say that. "Please don't mention the last part to anypony." Asking for favors. Hopefully she would understand.
"Ah, yes." She handed you a key, suddenly a bit happier. "It is at the end of the town, just follow the road until you get to the end and your house it the last on the left, and don't worry, I won't say anything." She gave you a wink. Seems like you just got to trust her. Well that was a sudden change in the mood. You didn't really care as you got the key.
You thanked her before walking out of the office. You said goodbye to the brown stallion and left the building. You had to walk through half of the town one more time, but you guessed it gave you sometime to look. The town looked awfully quiet to be in the middle of the day. You passed what looked like a bakery. Seeing noone inside you continued walking. Too bad, because you were kinda hungry too after the trip.
Your house looked....interesting. This interesting on the other hand was more of a wierd interesting. Basically, it was a tree. You had seen a few tree homes before but there were none in Canterlot and this would be the first time you had stayed in one before. The tree looked solid and what was supposed to be the house seemed to have been knocked into it. You couldn't help but chuckle at the idea of a tree home. It looked very cool. You admired the house a bit more before making your way to the door. You opened it and turned the switch....
"SURPRISE!" you jumped backwards and almost out of the house. The crowd suddenly stopped dead and looked at you. You didn't realise it before you felt that your horn was glowing. Well this is awkward. My good first impression in front of most of the town is going great right now. You thought as you stood there ready to fire the knock out spell. You quickly break out of the idea and your horn returns to it's normal colour. "What are you all doing here?" you say quickly after the little battle ready incident. The pink mare, the same you had seen running off back when you arrived, bounced up to you. "It's a party, were you surprised, were you?" the pink pony bounced around you before you replied, "Yeah, very". "Yeah I know, you went all like VOOOM and we were all like WOW". The pink pony describe the incident that happend for two minutes ago. "But why?" you say to try to switch the topic. "Well, I saw you in town but I haven't seen you before and that means your new because I know everypony in town. And since your new you probably don't have any friends and that's means that you are alone and that made me sad" she said with a sudden sad look. "So I arranged this party for you to meet everypony in Ponyville." she cheered up again in reckord time. Mental note to self. Stay away from pink mare, she is insane. "Well, thanks I guess but...." You try to explain the situation that you hadn't slept for the past day and a half, but she interrupted you. "I am Pinkie Pie but my friends call me Pinkie, what's you name? What's your favorite colour? where are you from?" The question didn't seem to come to an end. Suddenly an orange mare put her hoof in the crazy mare's mouth and she stopped....Thank Celestia. "Now settle down, Sugarcube, no need to break the poor guy." She gives you a smile. "Oki doki-loki!" Pinkie says as she bounces away, as happy as when she riddled you with questions.
"Hey, thanks." you turn to the Orange mare with a smile on your face. "No problem, Pinkie can be a handfull sometimes." A moment passes before she asks "So what brings you to our little town?" Well that was expected. You tried to keep it simple and don't give away too much. "Buisness. Mostly." She gives you a strange look like that didn't explain much (Which it didn't) but she cheers up. "Alrighty then. I'm Applejack. And you are?". You introduced yourself. "Nice to meet ya'." She says before she walked away to meet some of the other party members. You figured you'd had to do the same. It was nice here. Nopony seemed to care that you hadn't fixed your mane in a while.
"Sweet celestia" a mare behind you yells. Please don't let it be the mane. For Celestia's sake don't let it be the mane. You think as you turn around. The white unicorn looks at you with a terrified look. They are everywhere, aren't they? You think before making out a "Is there a problem?" She seemed to have gotten back to reality before she said "Your mane, what happend". "Almost two days without sleep kinda does this to you." You said with a more agressive tone. It was ok to look but by Celestia don't yell it out. "Well, in that case, sorry". She looked at you with a sorry face. This was a small victory, as she seemed to be the only one who cared in this entire town. Seeing as probably all the residents was in your house. "No problem", you say before presenting yourself. "My name is Rarity. Where are you from?". "I am from Canterlot..." her eyes lit up, not that this came as a surprise. The pony seemed to be mad about fasion and where else would be better then the capital itsself. "You simply have to stop by my Boutique tomorrow and tell me EVERYTHING. What's the latest fasion? Is there anything new on the fasion front at all? Do you know anyone who is interested in fasion? I can give them a wonderful cut in price". Well, this is going just fine. You think before thinking about anyone in your enviroment who would be interested. "No, not anyone I could think of. And sorry, I am not the fasion type." She looked at you with a sad look. "But you still have to let me make for my 'assault' on your mane. Stop by my store tomorrow." She gave you the directions, not like you were going to remember, before she made her exscuses and walked away. You had to get something to drink. That would probably be the thing that could hold you awake for at least some time. You made your way to the punch bowl. You poured something up in a glass before slowly lifting it to your mouth.
"I wouldn't drink that if I were you." a sudden voice came from behind you and you stopped dead in your tracks. You turn around and stands face to face with a purple unicorn. This might be her. You say before thinking of a reply, "Why not?" you say with a suspicious tone in your voice. "Well that would be because that drink is going to make you spit fire." She replies. "You got experience?" You say with a teasing smile. "Well you could guess what I drank at my welcome party". She said while pointing at the bottle. Could it be this easy? "Well, thanks for the advice." You say as you decide that you had gone too long without any sleep, but this would be the perfect time to gain some information. That and it wouldn't be smart to leave a major part of the town in your living room.
"So you are the unicorn from Canterlot?" You face her.
"Yes, my name is Twilight Sparkle", she says with a friendly voice. Wow, it was that easy. You thought as you felt little joy in it.
"And you do what here?" That migth have come off wrong but she didn't seem to notice, or care.
"I run the local library here which I currenlty live in, and on the same time I'm on a quest form the Princess to discover the magic of friendship."
Well this was exactly what you were after. You know where she lives, or atleast after a few talks about where you could find the library. This mission is starting off very good. "But what brings you here? I heard from Rarity that you're from Canterlot", she says after a little while. Wow, that white mare was quick with gossip. "Well, I am here for buisness. Can't tell you more then that, unfortunatly". You couldn't get on the wrong hoof with your target. That would be unwise and could sabotage the entire mission. "Oh it's ok." She replies with a dissapointed look but to your relief. She didn't press it any further.
After all the guests had left, and a certian pink mare had promised you a lot of baking goods and more parties and so on, you were finally alone. This gave you time to think about what you should do in the following morning. The most likely thing would be to check out this library but first you had to get some food. It was no food in the house but you were too tired to go out right now. Instead you crashed onto your bed and fell asleep.

A/N: Sorry, I can't make the chapters longer. I wish I could but I'd have to make extra time for it (And I lack the experience). The biggest problem about the English part is that every person who knows english can make a sentence and it would most likely be correct. Me, on the other hand, got a few problems with it due to the Norwegian way to make a sentence and the english way. That was my best exscuse for anything.
PS: Thanks to the people pointing out the "Queen" mistake in the title. Damn you Equestria and your wierd Monarchy system. Either way, thanks for all the support. I really appreciate it.
It was great waking up. It was so great that you decided that you had to sleep just a few more minutes...or hours. You glanced over to your alarm clock and quickly discarded the idea. The clock was a bit more then you expected. You had a job to do, and that was the only thing that managed to push you out of bed and into the bathroom. You still found it funny to live in a tree, but the shower soon turned your thoughts at other things. The feeling of a shower had never been so great. You got out and decided that you had to spend some effort on your mane, this time. You were new in town and had to make a good first impression. Or second based on the fact that you were exhausted last time you met somepony and that couldn't count. Back in canterlot the mane wasn't that big of a problem. You just had to make it look presentable and nopony complained since you usually got the job done. There was this one time where things got wrong but this wasn't the rigth time or place to think about it. You just had to focus.
Going out was a smart idea. Not only was it great because of the work but yesterday you couldn't catch the best glance at Ponyville. It was a good thing to live a little bit outside town. Not much but you could see the little town in all it's glory. The colours and the buildings, It was wonderful. You walked to the road from your current home and into the town, not taking your eyes of it. You suddenly felt a pain. Not like the "got stabbed in the chest pain" but it was very bad. It could be several reasons. You could have tripped over something and didn't noticed or you were hungry. You went over both options and came to the conclusion that you can't think well without food. You stopped outside what you thought was the local bakery. The name was "Sugarcube Corner" and that was good enough for you. Just to get a simple snack. You entered and looked after any form for life inside. You soon spot the mare behind the counter.
"Good day", You said, trying to hide the fact that you were deeply in need of some food.
"Well hello, Can't say I've seen you around", the blue mare answered with a smile. Why did her mane remind you of somepony?
"I moved in yesterday. I was promised by a pink mare that the baked goods here was amazing so I had to stop and buy some". Now you remembered who she looked like. You decided not to take it any further.
"Well, since you're new in town I'll give you these one for free." She handed you a bag of muffins and you gladly accepted it.
You thanked very much and exited the building. You decided not to wait before taking one out of the bag and slowly taking a bite of it. That was the best muffin you had eaten in your entire life. You weren't the pony who usually bought sweets but this was an emergency. As you ate one you forgot that you should have done your morning training. Well, you just had to make it doubble tomorrow. After the wonderful muffins you followed the direction given to you by the white mare. You hadn't forgot about your promise to drop by and say hello. Celestia had told you a little bit about the ponies in this town. They were different from the ponies in Canterlot. They acted nice and was nice at the same time. You stopped by a wonderful structure and read the sign; "Carousel Boutique". It sounded right and you had followed the directions. You walked up to the door and knocked. The door soon opened and the white mare who had given you the direction stood in front of you. You had probably arrived at the right place.
"Oh there you are", she said with a friendly voice. "Please come in".
"Thank you, you said with a smile." You looked around before entering. Celestia might be right but it isn't going to be your death if she's wrong. In the corner of your eyes you could spot a wierd bush. Wierd as in slightly more moving then any of others. You had been taught to take good notice in details.
"So how is Canterlot now-a-days?" The white mare turned when you entered the door.
"As usual. Ponies are getting arrested but the authorities is still calling it the best town". They had to do so to keep the city's image. You didn't like it but you couldn't do anything more then your job.
"So. Any famous artists rumors?" She was probaly talking about the ones who were into fashion.
"Well. If the stories I heard was correct, Clavin was taken in by the police for about a week ago. This, of course, is still rumors." You knew it wasen't but you had to keep a certian job proffessionality.
"Not the famous Calvin..." She almost dropped the tea cups. You interrupted her. "Mr. Klein was supposed to be in posession of something illegal. Remember that this is still only rumors". She calms down. "Let's just hope it's only rumors". The news was going to be hard for her but you decided not to care that much. After a long talk about fashion you said your good byes and left.
The second you came out you made a sharp turn left and went into the alley. That bush had actually moved. So either somepony was after you or somepony else. You stood in the alley for a few minutes before noticing that the bush was getting a better angle a few houses away. It was spying on you and the pony inside probably didn't know that you knew it. This would be fun. You crossed the street and hid behind a house. You knew that if you were quick, you could move before the pony could change posistion again. You quickly made your way from house to house. The spy had to lost track of you by now so you started a sprint before quickly turning around the corner where you knew the bush was. You used your levitation spell to throw the bush up in the air and sending the pony inside to the ground. You were right, somepony was spying, though it could have been somepony else then her. The purple unicorn blushed a little as she know she's caught.
"So what are you doing inside a bush, or better, why are you spying?" Your tone was a little irritated. You had been spied upon a few times and you didn't like it. This was not an exeption.
"I am sorry, I just needed some information and I...." She tried to excuse herself but you interrupted.
"The only thing you get to know about me is the things I want to tell you. You wont find the other things so you might as well just ask me". The exscuse was poor but you guessed she wasen't into the spying business. You calmed down. "So how about we take a walk and I try to answer the most of your questions?". You couldn't get on the wrong hoof with the target anyways so you just had to make the best out of it.
She looked at you with a sad expression, "I would like that, and I am so sorry for spying on you". Well atleast she said she was sorry.
"No problem". you had to say it. You helped her up from the ground.
"How did you know?" She asked you with a suspicious look.
"I am used to noticing details." You couldn't say that you had been spied on before. That would lead into all the questions you didn't want. She seemed to be okay with the answer.
"So what do you really work as?" The question caught you off guard. The "Business" excuse couldn't work now. You had explain a little bit more.
"I am working at the library in Canterlot. Not a huge job but I love it". That was the only excuse you could come up with which would explain your levitation spell right now. The mare seemed to buy the story as she looked surprised.
"Wait, you are working at the library? So why with the 'business' thing?". She was really going to push this a lot further then you had hoped for.
"I am not so proud of my job. I love working with books and all but right now I'm on vacation and I really don't want to bring up work." This had to work. You had spent a little bit in a library. Reading wasn't as bad as everypony would have it to be and you enjoyed a good book once in a while.
"So if I would want the 'History of Magic: First book' where would I need to look". Is she really this good?
"You'd had to check the 'magic' section and I believe the book is in the third row". Luckily for you, the book was common read and you had to learn it by heart due to the job. And it seemed to be right as the unicorn looked at you with even more surprised eyes then before.
"Just one more question. The spell you charged back at your house when we jumped out. What was it?" This was slightly more easy to evade.
"Well you see, In Canterlot I had to learn the basic knock out spell. It was to prevent theft in the library, should I be the only one there." That would have to do. You spell was much stronger then the basic knock-out spell, but you hoped you didn't have to use it on anypony.
You turned to her. "Mind if I ask you any questions?" Time to get some information.
"Sure. I see no problem in that." She said with a smile on her face.
"Great. So you worked here as a librarian, right? While studying magic at the side?" You had to check up on the facts given to you. You couldn't have her thinking you knew something personal about her that she didn't think you'd know.
"Yes, I am the current librarian here, and how did you know I was studying magic?" The question didn't come as a surprise. She didn't tell you about the whole magic thing.
"Well, your cutie mark would mostly describe magic. Either that or stargazing and you don't look like the full time stargazer. You probably got it as a hobby if you are even interested." She looked at you with very surprised eyes.
"How did you know about the stargazing and have you looked at my flank while I weren't looking?" She blushed at the last question.
"I am good at details." A few years in the force did that to you. Unfortunatly this also brought other complications. You weren't the social type and hardly got any friends beside your colleagues.
"So how much could you tell about me from our little chat?" She turned to you grin. Was this a challenge. Oh, it's on.
"Well, you seem to be the kinda anti-social pony. You told me at the party that you were sent here by the Princess to discover the friendship of magic which kinda says alot. Therefor I also believe that your love life hasn't been so great as you blushed when you asked me the question about your flank." You really put some pressure on the last sentence. She challenged you and you had to have some fun at your job. Hopefully she didn't take it so seriously.
She blushed even more to your enjoyment before she let out "Okay, you got me there." A jump of joy. This was always fun to do to somepony that didn't know of your history.
"Well, it was a pleasure talking to you, but I need to be on my way. Perhaps I'll drop by the library later. I need some reading material", you said. You had forgot your books back home in Canterlot. The unicorn pony lit up. Seems like she hadn't had much customers.
"Well, it was great talking to you", she turned around and walked the other way. You were almost out of town but that didn't matter right now. You had heard it was a farm somewhere out there, and they sold food. You weren't hungry but you needed a walk and something to eat later. You walked some distance before a certian farm came in sight. You had walked through the forest and instead of finding the front entrance you more found trees. But these were apple trees. You walked around for a little before noticing the orange mare, kicking trees. She saw you as you approched.
"Howdy, partner. What can I do you for?" Her name was Applejack if you recalled correctly.
"Hi, Applejack. Thought I might take a trip around town to see what's here. I might have ventured a little too long, but I ended up here so it dosen't seem so wrong after all. But do you sell apples? I could really need some".
"Well yeah, we do sell apples, but I am in the middle of the apple bucking right now. Could you come back later?" She said with a bit of sadness in her tone.
"Alright. I'll be back shortly. Just going to backtrack my way back to town" You said with a smile. She looked wierd at you for about two seconds before raising her hoof and pointing at the entrance. "Or you could just use that way". You smiled and walked towards the gate. On the way you saw a certian red stallion. He had to be Applejacks brother. The difference between them wasen't that big. You just walked away as he didn't seem to notice you. You had to catch up on some other things today and stopping and chatting everywhere wasen't going to make things better.
You walked for a few minutes before you could see town. A few more minutes and you were standing next to a large tree. The sign read "Library" so she got to be here. It would be wise to see how she lived. It could be great for a report to the Princess, and you figured you had to write one later today.
You knocked a few times before a voice answered. It was more of a male voice then a female, which made you think that you might have gone wrong. A little dragon opened the door. The Princess had told you about this dragon, and if you recalled correctly his name was Spike. He was supposed to be Twilights helper. "Hello", he said with a welcoming voice.
"Good day," you say. "I was wondering if I could lend some books?" The question surprised the little dragon which made you wonder if the library got any other visitiors.
"By all means, come in", he sounded incredibly surprised. He showed you in before yelling out: "Twilight, there's a pony here looking for books." Yep, probably not the most popular place. The purple unicorn came out of what appeared to be her study.
"Am I interrupting something?" You said with a suspicious look.
"No, not at all. I am just not used to having customers here."
"It's a shame how ponies don't go to the library anymore." You weren't a real librarian but you had been to the librabry enough times back in Canterlot to know that it wasn't very popular.
"Anyways, what do you want? The selection isn't as great as the one back in Canterlot but I got a few books". She leads you over to the orginized collection of books.
"I was looking for the 'Basics Of Magic", you had some study to do. It might have been just her but if you could find some answers to what could have caused it and what stopped it, you might be able to get somewhere else then just wondering.
"A classic," she said. A book in one of the shelfs were surrounded by a purple aura before getting lifted down and placed in your hoofs. "There", she said.
"Thank you. I'll be back with the book soon enough." You checked the book out and said your goodbyes. It was time to study a bit then write the letter to the princess, but first, you had to get some food. It had been a while since you were at the farm. If you had noticed correctly the name of the farm was "Sweet apple Acres". After dropping off the book, you went the way you had used to travel away from the farm. You thought it might be a more respectable way to approach the farm. It was getting late as you arrived at the farm. The sun was almost about to set and Luna's moon was about to rise. It seemed like the farm had closed for the day, but you walked up to the main building before knocking. Applejack answered the door.
"Howdy, Partner." The orange mare greeted you by shaking you hands rapidly.
"Hey, are you done for the day? I was wondering if I could buy some apples?" You hoped that she would have some food to sell.
"I knew you would come back so I made an extra crate full og apples." This was a big relieve. A snack was just what you needed while studying. You payed the bits and took the crate on your back. I wasn't that big but it seemed like a lot of apples. The weight didn't bother you that much.
You arrived home and got the crate off your back. You felt exhausted but you opened it and took an apple out of it. You took the book up to your bedroom before setteling down in your chair. You opened the book and started reading. You didn't stop before you had read the entire thing.
"Great. Now I know all kinds of things about magic but nothing much about what can happend to some unicorns who possesses these powers." you talked outloud to yourself. You gave up and decided to write the report to the Princess before going to bed. You thought for a second before starting to write:
"Dear Princess celestia.
I have not seen any sights of your student acting any kind of abnormal. I will continue the watching tomorrow and will inform you again in a few days or if anyhing is out of the usual." you sign it and go outside to deliver it. Hopefully the mail pony here was going to get in to Canterlot. You went inside and looked at the watch. Your eyes sprung up and you gazed outside and saw Luna's moon hanging in the sky. It was time to get to bed and relax. You had a lot of things to do tomorrow. One of them were to get more books.
Waking up in your bed still felt wonderful. Maybe it was the tree enviroment or just the sheets. Either way the bed felt so good. It was your second day in Ponyville and it was time to get something done. This time you didn't want to sleep more. You had gone to bed at a decent time and now you were ready to take on the world. You took the usual training routine two times since you hadn't done it yesterday. You went into the shower and thought of the objective you had been given. You were going to be here for Celestia knows how long because Celestia herself hadn't given you much information about it. This meant that it is either a secret for the rest of the ponies or it simply haven't happend before. But for how long could you stay there before she couldn't have you there anymore. It would be ok if you had a date in which things would happend but not this time. You were used to the waiting part but the fact that this could take days, maybe even weeks, wasn't very great to think about. You would probably start to miss the action after a while here, but this was not the time thinking. You had to get to work. If the Princess didn't want to go into about what could happend should this 'incident' occur, then you just had to find it out on your own. You went out of the shower and got ready for the day. You grabbed an apple and ate it quickly as you moved towards the door. You opened it and gazed upon the wonderful sun. It wasn't many clouds in the sky today so this might be a great day to study outside. You walked a few metres from your house before rushing inside again. You came out two minutes later with the book you had borrowed from the library. "No need for this anymore " you thought as you made you way into the town. You had read it very quickly and gathered the information that might be useful for you.
The town was full of life. Back in Canterlot the only life you would see was from the ponies who had money or position. The rest were just a sad face and nothing more. Here, on the other hand, the fillies and colts ran around laughing and everyone seemed to have a smile on their face. You walked up to the library door and knocked. You waited for a few seconds before the little dragon answered once again. "Hello, Mister. Please come in", he said. Being called "mister" wasn't an ordinary thing for you but it sounded classy. "I'm just here to deliver this book back and maybe pick up some new ones," you replied after walking into the librabry. "Ah, ok. Just let me get Twi", he said while going up the stairs and knocked on the door. There was some talking, but you didn't hear what it was about. After a few seconds the purple unicorn opened the door and stepped into the large room. Her mane was a total wreck. Just as yours on the first night in Ponyville.
"Had a bad night," you teased her. If she was the kind of pony you were told she probably had been up all night studying.
"Almost no sleep. Was too busy studying", she said. She obviously was very tired.
"Well don't let me stop you. I am just going to return this book and most likely pick up some new ones." You put the book on the table next to you. "Just go back to sleep. I will inform your little friend here what I take." You looked at her for a few seconds. She didn't seem to object the idea and turned around and walked into her room again. You looked at Spike who didn't seem to like your "little" remark. You looked over the different shelfes before finding the books you were looking for. "Unicorn Magic" and "Advanced Magic" were both good for the study purpose. You told Spike which books you had taken, and left the building.
You walked into the nearby park and sat down. You opened the "Unicorn magic" book and started to read. The book you read yesterday was only teaching you about regular magic like levitation and the common knowlegde on magic. The two books you had in your posession now on the other hand were much more then just common knowledge. You sat down and read through them. It was great reading outside. Obviously you had to write this down when you came back home, but to just feel the heat and the fresh air was incredible. After a while you looked around to see who else was in this park. You had some young fillies running around and some old ponies sitting on a bench. You looked up into the sky to see if there was any pegasi there. There was one who you could see. That might have been due to her rainbow coloured mane and tail. She seemed to do some stunts before landing on the ground. The things she pulled off looked like something out of a Wonderbolts show. She might copy their tricks since they are such big inspiration for many with their incredible stunts. You didn't want to waste more time and looked down in the books again. A few minutes later your study were interrupted.
"Hey, aren't you the new pony in town?" The rainbow coloured mare stood in front of you.
"Yes, that would be me", you answered. This wasn't the best time for a chat but you guessed you just had to deal with it.
"So you are the one who paniced at your surprised party?" the mare really did bring up that.
"And again, yes, that was me", you said with a little irritation in your voice. Hopefully she would get it and leave. She looked at you for a breif second before bursting out in laugh. This conversation wasn't going to end in a while. After a moment of laugh, the mare got a hold of herself.
"So what brings you here?" she said.
"Vacation", you replied. This was going to be one of those times again where you had to answer a bunch of questions before she would leave you alone. This is the downside of studying outside when you are new in a town. Too many interruptions.
"So what are you doing?", she switched the topic fast. This is one of the times were you would love to use the "Piss off" sentence but this would just cause complications. You couldn't just get too touchy at one subject.
"Reading. It's a wonderful weather outside." You looked up in the air. Some rainclouds seemed to gather. "Well it was lovely talking to you...", you said before interrupting yourself. "What's your name?" The mare just looked at you with wide eyes. Like you had told her that you thought this was Canterlot.
"Don't you know who I am? I am THE Rainbow Dash." She looked at you. You had still no idea who she was. "You know, the best flyer in all of Equestria, soon to be part of the wonderbolts". ah, now you got it. This was one of this bragging ponies. You didn't like them but some of them were very funny. "Sorry, no idea." you said before continuing. "It was great chatting with you, but I think I'll head home now. Seems like the rain is about to begin." The mare just looked at you while you closed the books and put them on your back. "Yeah, see you another time", she said before taking off into the air.
Afriad of what the rain would do to your books, you quickly rushed home. You closed the door behind you before taking another apple out of the crate. There was few left so you decided that you had to go out later to eat a proper dinner. You placed the books at your desk and looked out of the window. It had started to rain. Fantastic. Well, the outside shouldn't keep you from doing the study inside. You opened the books again and got a paper and a quill. You wrote down all the things that could be great for your cause and continued reading.
After a while your stomach signalized that it was time for a dinner so you took your coat on you and walked into town. The rain had almost stopped and just a few drops were still in the air. Rain wasn't supposed to stop you. You didn't have anything on you which would be destroyed by this kind of rain. You couldn't go to the local bakery or the farm this time. You had to get some food at a resturant. You didn't have the rescourses to make your own food so you had to skip by the store and get something. Another time of course. Now you wanted something good. Something made by professional ponies. Hopefully it was something like that here. After a while and a lot of running back and forward into the town you learned two things. It is a resturant here and this town is bigger then it seems.
You entered and got a table. Sitting alone was regular for you but since you were new in town it wasn't that great. Back in Canterlot people knew you kinda were an upthight spellthief, but not here. You had missed the rare company by your friends but that wasn't the biggest problem right now. Right now you had to get some food. You ordered after a few discussions with yourself of what to eat. While you waited for the food you got a wierd thought. If this unicorn was so powerful then what were you supposed to do? If her powers would get so much stronger then she already was then you might get a problem. You were ordered to try any other way then something that might be lethal. You didn't use such spells anymore but how would your basic spell react with her. All the questions flowed around in your head and you didn't see the waitress coming to your table with the food. She put the food on the table which made you jump. She looked at you with concerned eyes.
"Sorry, long day", you said. She smiled and walked away.
You ate up, still with all the thoughts in your head. If this incident would happend and she would put anypony in danger, you knew what you had to do. This magic had to be feared by Celestia herself since you were here. That was kinda freaky to think about. You sat by the table for a few minutes before asking for the bill. You paid and walked outside. It was starting to get late and you had some late night study to do.
On the way home you look at the library. You were jealous of it. A tree house was cool but that, that was from another world. Though this wasn't the thing that caught your attention. There were still lights on. You had walked around town long enough for Luna's moon to come up. You looked at the town watch, which showed that it was very late. Almost every house was dark but here, the light from the second floor beamed out form one of the windows. She was probably going to study untill tomorrow. Well, that wouldn't stop you from doing what had to be done.
Upon arriving home you felt a sort of comfort. Back in Canterlot you would probably be chasing down a low life thug right now. But here, you could take a good time just relaxing. The studying wasn't forced upon you. You did it of your own free will. You went over to your workdesk and picked up the notes. If this should happend you had to be prepared. Tomorrow was going to not only be training as in your body but also your magic.
You sat down on your chair and found a blank paper and a quill. It was time to ask the question the Princess didn't want to tell you. And one more just for the caution of everypony else. With a quick thought you started writing.
"Dear Princess Celestia,
I know I'm not supposed to report to you so close from my last report but I have some questions about the mission. First of all, this unicorn seems to take the training of her magic very far. Her magic is supposedly getting stronger every day, and this state you talk about is supposed to make her stronger. What makes you think I can stop her? And with that said I have a request. Should anypony else be in danger. If everything else is a lost cause. Am I allowed to use lethal force? Please Princess, I know this isn't good for you to validate but if she turns agressive againts anypony. I know she isn't one of those ponies but I don't know if I can say the same about the other part of her."
Back In Canterlot this wouldn't be a problem. It was just to find the targets and get them back to the station. If they refused, you would stun them. You had only met a few ponies who really had put up a big fight. It was a shame they all ended bad. You took a recap of the dark times in Canterlot. The ponies you had been tracking were gruesome. The things they had done was so terrible that the cases was rarely spoken about. Both for the citys sake and for the people involved. You looked down at the letter and sighed before going outside to mail it. You knew neither the princess or the unicorn desrved this but it was something out of your control. You went back in and sat by your desk and read. After a few hours you went to bed. The day had brought up some bad times, and right now, you were alone to face them.
"Are you ready?", the mare turns to you. "I know it's your first arrestation of this kind but just keep your head cool and follow me."
You followed her as you walked between the dark alleys in Canterlot. The city was huge but you knew he was at that location. You stood behind the mare as she approached the door. She gave you a hoof signal to walk around the building in case he might make a run for it. You nodded quickly before walking to the other side. The building was small and looked empty, but this was your best bet and the information was fresh. She was soon to barge in through the door and you would get the back door. He wouldn't have a chance to escape. You heard the door falling down and a voice yelling "Canterlot Police!" This was really going to be your first real nabbing. You entered the house, looking for the suspect.
Suddenly you hear a sound. Like something electric and something hitting the floor. You run through the house and into the living room. Your partner laying on the ground and a stallion standing right over her. He turns to you with a grin. "Look who we have hear", he let out a little laugh before continuing. "Did you really think only the two of you were enough to take me down?" At this point you didn't care about him. You looked at your partner as she lay lifeless on the ground. You turn to him with a angry look. You couldn't let his talking get the best of you.
"Lay down on the ground right now", you looked at him, still with an angry stare. He observed you for a few seconds before bursting out into laugh.
"Why do you think you can take me down when your partner obviously couldn't?" He asked with a smile.
Before he could get a response from you, you fired a shot. He didn't see it coming as he got hit in the chest and collapsed almost immediatly. You walked over to him and checked his pulse. It was nothing, as you thought it would be. You walked over to the lifeless body of your partner before doing the same thing on her. It was as you feared, nothing, nohing at all. You walked through the front door where both civilians and police officers had gathered. You walked down and showed the officers your badge. You told them everything and you went inside again. You came out with the mare on your back and you walked away from the scene. You knew she was dead but you had to get her back to the base. She didn't deserve to lay in a ruined house. The minute you arrived at base and got some time to yourself you started crying.
Your eyes sprung up. It was just a dream. That day had haunted you for so long. The day you had to see your friend die and when you had taken a life. You were new to the job of course, but that didn't excuse what you did. You let the anger get the better of you and you acted in rage. Not to say that the stallion deserved it but it was unprofessional. She was one of your only friends. She had looked after you for a while before you were invited to join the squad. You weren't good with ponies and as a result you got few friends. That mare saw through those flaws and became your best friend. She had been in the force for a little longer then you had, but you had learned something that she hadn't. In the most recent years, about the time were you studied magic, it was allowed for the "Spelltheifs" to use the killing spell. It was soon taken away after another incident, but it was still in your and some other ponies mind. You had brought this on yourself though. You had asked for the princess to give you promission to kill if necessary. Such actions hadn't been taken for a few years but you knew you would do anything to save her. She isn't like the other ponies you had faced in your line of work. She was innocent.
You sat up and reflected on what you could do. This is why you studied. Deep inside you knew you owed her that much. If you were to go up againts something you had never faced before, you should try to be ready for it. You glanced at the clock. Luna's moon was still up but you couldn't go back to sleep. You knew you would recall more things about what happend on that day, and that was something you just couldn't handle right now. You got out of bed and walked over to your study. You had finished most of the two books, but you had the last chapters to read. Today you would deliver the books back but not borrow new. You had your own book for that. You walked down to the kitchen and grabbed an apple. You walked into the shower after finishing the snack and took a relaxing shower.
You read for a few hours before the sun finaly came up and you could walk outside. Not that a walk in the moonlight was great, it was just that the stores were closed and you had some reading to do. You finished up the books and placed them on your back. You opened the door only to be greeted by a grey pegasus. "Hello, mister!" You jumped back causing your books to hit the ground. The grey mare looked at you with worried eyes. "Sorry", she looked very sad for the incident. "No worries, probably my fault anyways", you glanced at her with a smile. She cheered up before handing you a letter. "Goodbye", she said before taking off. You observed the letter and noticed the royal seal. Did she really use the local mailcarrier to deliver a letter. Why not send it with one of her guards or something. Well, it wasn't like the grey mare would have anything to do with the letter anyways. You walked inside. This wasn't a letter which anypony could see you read. It was very unusual to get a letter with the royal seal, even back in Canterlot. You placed it on your desk before removing the seal. You took up the paper and started to read.
"My dear Agent", She didn't use the word 'spellthief' anymore but rather 'agent'. Interessting. You continued.
"I am glad to hear from you and that everything seems fine." She probably just sums up the first letter I sent , you thought.
"I am giving you the permission because of two things. First of all I trusth you and I believe that you always will do your best. The other thing is that you have been in this situation before", that was it. That was the last thing that was written on the paper without the signature. How is that even possible. Did she really want to just give you the acknowledgment and nothing more. But she made a point. You had never used unnecessary damage on anyone after that night. You just couldn't do it. You sat there and stared at the letter for a few seconds before putting it in the drawer with the other letters you had gotten while you were in Canterlot.
You picked up both the books which you had ignored ones you saw the royal seal and once again placed them on your back. You really had to get one of those saddlebacks to keep books and other things in. To place them on your back was getting annoying and books could easily be broken if they hit the floor too many times.
You quickly walked down to the library before knocking on the door. The Unicorn answered this time. She looked better then the last time you met. "Good morning", she said.
"Hello, I was just delivering the books", you answered.
"Are you going to borrow some other books today?", she asked.
"No, I am going to study one of my own books today", you repsonded. You had brought one book which you always had with you when you ventured outside Canterlot.
"Ok, I'll see you some other day", she said while taking the books. You said your goodbyes before turning around and walking in the direction of the store.
The Ponyville general store was great. It had everything you needed. You picked up some ingredients for a meal later today and bought a fancy saddleback. It weren't many ponies in the store. Maybe becuase it was still very early. The sun had just risen when you had left home and you were only gone for a couple of hours at max. You walked inside and placed all your goods in different areas of the kitchen. This had been one of the first times you really had gotten a great view of your kitchen and it looked great. The tree part made everything look better. Maybe after you had retired from work you would find a house like this. You walked into your bedroom and opened a drawer next to the bed. You picked up the book and sat down on the bed.
The book read "Tome Of Morello", and was a book only given to those who were in your line of work. The book contained spells made for taking down magic users. If it should result in a battle were you had to attack then you had to be ready for it. This book was old. It had been made better and newer versions of the book but this was unique in one way. This was the only book who had one ceritan a spell. A spell which had triggered the first change of the book. The deadly blow spell. What it did was to fire a bolt into the target and paralyse it. It isn't that different from the medical unicorns shock but this was made to kill. It was a shame that it had come to this, but it was for the protection of the ponies in the town. You walked down again and made dinner. You didn't want to go to bed without food and you guessed that you would have to when you were done with the book. You ate quickly and ran back upstairs.
You quickly stacked up a target. It was just an ordinary target but it was made with a special material which worked as a spell destroyer. When fired upon with a spell, the material simply destoryes the spell on the spot. It was great for casting spell which could destroy something. You placed it next to a wall before walking a few steps back. The target was rather big so you didn't fear to miss a shot. You read through the book a few times just to recap. You focused your mind and shot a few projectiles at the target. These were only fired to check if the target was solid. You wouldn't blast right through it and risk damaging the house. You found the one spell which you hadn't practised for a while. You looked at the target before fireing. It seemed ok and you hit the target. You were going to fire one more before you stopped. Your body didn't want to do it anymore. You suddenly felt tears running down your cheek. You threw the book away before putting your coat on. You had to do some late night walking. They always said it helped to think while walking at night. You never thought about it as a medicine but you were willing to try anyting right now.
It was clearly night outside. Almost every house was dark and it seemed like eveyrpony had gone to bed. You started to walk to the town. This wasn't the time to explore certian areas around your house. When you arrived at the city you looked around. There was actually one house who still had lights emerging from it. The library didn't seem so bad right now, though you didn't know if you should go there. Your body had just been through a breakdown and you didn't know if you wanted to see this happend again, and atleast not were other ponies might see you. That would cause a lot more attraction then you wanted. You walked around in the town for a while longer before thinking why not. You could atleast knock on the door and see if everything was alright. You walked calmly up to the door. Filled with regret you approached the door and knocked a few times. After a few seconds you guess noone was there and turned to walk back to your house. You walked three steps before you heard the door opening.
"Hello?", a voice said. You turned the purple unicorn.
"Hi. I was just taking a walk in the night and noticed that your home was the only one with lights still on. I was just checking if everything was ok". Your brain facehoofed itself. That was maybe one of the worst excuses you had ever made. The mare looked at you with a strange look for a few seconds before cheering up.
"Everything is alright here," she looked kinda nervous, "would you like to come in?" Your brain just stopped. "Yeah, sure", you responded. You had done it. I believe it says something in the "Agent training for dummies", that you should never do what you just did. Never do something unecessary with the target. You followed her in and took you coat off.
"So what do you do?" You asked. If she was up right now she was clearly studying.
"I am studying for the next meteor shower. It's one of those 'once in a life time' so I'm really excited."
"Sounds interesting", you said. "When is it?" Your brain was currently at 'trying to be social' state. It was just chit chatting.
"In about two days, do you want to come with me?" She asked.
Your body stopped. You knew you were ordered by the Princess to follow her. You never knew what could happend or where it could happend, though this was stretching the line.
"Are you ok?", she looked at you. You had probably been like this for a while and you had to respond quickly.
"Sure, why not?". If it was only you two it was wierd but her friends would probably be there to watch it with her so you could stand from a safe distance and keep an eye out for anything suspicious.
"Great. I'll need to see where the best place is to watch it from. I'll talk to you once it's done."
"Ok. I think I'll head home now to get some sleep." you said while moving for the door. You grabbed your coat and opened the door.
"I'll see you soon then." You smiled and said bye while you responded with something which could sound like a "bye".
After you had closed the door of your house you let out a sigh. "Why am I doing this to myself?", You said outloud. You walked up the stairs before removed your coat and fell asleep almost immediatly.
A/N: I am very sorry for being away so long without any notice. I have been bothered with personal stuff for a while but I hope to get back to write a little even though school has started. Thanks again to everyone who shows their support.
Three days had passed since your late night visit to the library. You were uncertian what you were going to do right now but you convinced yourself that this would be a great and relaxing trip. It was just to watch other ponies watching stars anyways. If anything should happend, it would be best there. You would have a better time to figure out the situation since it weren't going to be any civilians there. Of course her friends would be there too but you could easily remove them from the scene. You just begged that if something should happend, let it be there. You didn't know if your body was ready to do something like that again and this time it involved a completly innocent pony, whos only crime was to be too good. You sat at the table in the kitchen. You were focusing on the difficult task at hand. You knew you would depart today to travel up to your destination. She talked to you yesterday and gave you all the infromation you would need. You had sent a notice to the Princess just in case of any emergency and now the only problem left was you. You didn't know what you were doing anymore. Was this because of the difference between earlier missions and this. You usually had a good view over everything but not now. Was it fear? The idea that you might have to do something unspeakable again. You jumped back when you heard the knocking on the door.
"Who is it?" You quickly ask. You weren't exactly in the mood for any visitors right now. You probably already knew who it was but you slowly approached the door waiting for a response.
"It's me, Twillight," the voice was clear and your guesses were correct. You opened the door rather hastely.
"Good morning," you said. You knew she would come by today to talk about the route you were going to take up the mountain but she still caugth you off guard for some reason.
"Hello," she said while looking at you. You hadn't showered today. It had been one of those nights again were you gave up sleeping and rather sat quietly and thought about certian things.
"Sorry about my look, I had a bad night," you tried to force a smile. You knew you had to happy or else you might come off as angry or not interested. You actually were kinda exctied. Since this was one of those one-time-only events, the thought of just being there made it exciting.
"It's not too bad," she looked at you with a smile.
"So, where are we going?" You quickly changed the subject.
"Well, I brought you this map, so if you could join me by the town hall in about two hours and we should be on our way," She explained. Two words made you suspicious. She said "me" and then "we" as in just you and her. Where are all her friends in this plan?
"So are your friends coming later or something?" you quickly asked.
"No," she said with a sad expression. "They were all too busy to join the trip so it will just be you and me. I hope that it wont be a problem."
"Of course not," you looked at her with a smile. Though you didn't like the thought of it you had to join her. It was for her own safety and it was kinda sad that none of her friends were able to come with her. She handed you the map.
"So just look over it a few times and we should be ready. I'll se you later." She walked away and down into the town again.
Well this was just wonderful. You had to be with her alone there. It would save you some trouble but it would still be very embarrasing. But maybe it was for the best. Should any "incident" happend when you were up there, nopony would get hurt, except you of course. But you didn't get this job to not be a risktaker. But it would be a moment of peace. To watch the sky and its wonderful show was probably just what you needed. You started packing. You hadn't brought much from Canterlot but it would be enough to survive through your staying on top of the mountain. You quickly opened the map to see where you were going. There was a mountain next to Ponyville and you were going to go there. It would probably be cold there and you would have to spend the night up there so you would have to get a few things from the local store. You decided to use an hour to clear everything. You rushed to the shower and it took only took a few minutes to get completely clean. You tried to be as quick as you could. Breakfast was already eaten and you were almost ready. You quickly packed a few clothes in case of the cold up there and your little book. You stopped a few seconds to look at it before you placed it into the bag. You took the bag on your back and left the house. You had used a little under an hour to do all this and you had plenty of time left.
You walked camly into the general store in Ponyville. You weren't in a rush and this place wasn't exactly the store you should barge through. You chose dinner and a nice tent. "This will probably come in handy, " you thought while getting certian other things for it. You were done after a while and placed all the goods on your back. You were ready and you decide to head for the Town Hall right now. Packed with the different things you walked into the main location of this little town. The area in front of the Town Hall wasn't big but it would suit it's purpose for the different occasions which could happend here. You waited around for a while. You were still early but you thought you would get some time to yourself and just look at the scenery. It was a wonderful place. You weren't actually troubled with the weather here. It was sunny and beautiful outside. The entire town was marvelous and was in good contact with the nature. It was sad to think how Canterlot had developed through the years. Your thoughts were broken by someone talking to you.
"Are you ok?" You snapped out of your trance. The purple mare was talking to you.
"Yes, I'm fine," You probably looked wierd when you stood completly still and looked into the air. She looked at you for a second with a wierd look before she continued speaking.
"Ok, then. Should we start on our jorney?" She asked while moving in the direction which leads out of town. You nodded and followed without saying anything. You traveled along the road which led out of the town and north towards Canterlot. After a while you got off the road and into the forest. The forest was a pretty place but was soon gone and in the clearing you saw a mountain. It was a narrow path up but you had to walk it. You were assured that this was the best way to get up to the mountain. You just had to believe it. It looked like someone had walked there a few times before you. Not that it erased any doubts. You made your way up the mountain and after a while you got the hang of it. You came up to a flat area and you both sat down to take a break.
"How far up are we?" You turned to the mare.
"I have no idea," she answered to your shock.
"What!?" You yelled out and thought that it might not have been the best response.
"I'm sorry but I've never been up there before and some of the ponies back in Ponyville told me that this was a great place and gave me some directions." You looked at her for a while before coming to your senses.
"Ok. Hopefully their right. Sorry about my reaction," You calmed down. It wasn't her fault. She probably had a stronger bond to these ponies than you had to...Well anypony.
"It's ok," she said quietly. You stood up ready to walk again. She on the other hand looked at you like you were insane.
"Are you crazy, we can't walk now!" She looked at you with a strange look.
"Why not?" you replied.
"We have just gotten here and I'm exhausted from all this carrying," She pointed on her bags. The looked rather heavy. She had really thought this one through. Maybe except how much she could manage to have on her back. You looked through your things before looking towards her.
"Let me take one of them." That sentence seemed to trigger something. She looked at you for a short while before handing one of the bags to you. You placed it strategically where you found open space. It didn't feel heavier at all but that might have been from all the training. Sure, you were a pony who had to work againts magic but that didn't mean that every fight between the police and a criminal would resolved with magic. You had experienced that one time. You were chasing this pony who were accused of misuse of magic. Another word for making havock in the city. You finally tracked him down but there was something you weren't informed about. His body strength. You usually went alone and once you opened the door to the place he was supposed to be you were kicked in that jaw. You quickly got up on your hoofs and tried to indentify him. It was hard as your sight was blurry. Once you got a good look at him you decided that magic would be the best tactic here. You hadn't seen a larger pony before. You got him down quickly because of his mental health. Sure he could cast a few dangerous spells but he had focused so much on being a strong pony that he had forgot he was a unicorn. After that day you started training a lot more in physical training.
"Ok, let's go." She was determined. That was great. She walked past you and up the mountain. There was a large ascent which you really hoped where the last you had to overcome to be on the top. At least it weren't a narrow path anymore. You looked at the upwars lope for a few seconds before deciding that you should hurry up. The purple mare was already a quarter of the way up. You didn't start running but maintained a faster speed than your co-climber. You didn't focus on the mountain right now. You knew you were supposed to just follow the road and don't trip on anything. You thought back on all the good times in the force. The few you had. A usual day involved a lot of beating but here. It was so peaceful.
"Hey!" you heard a voice behind you. You stopped for a second to come back to the real world before you turned around. At some point you had passed her. You were unsure how but you managed it. You waited for her to catch up to you.
"How did you manage that?" she asked, clearly exhausted.
"Managed what?" You didn't understand what she was implying.
"You basically ran past me and you didn't answer when I yelled after you," You stopped for a few seconds. Well, you were done with thinking about the days in the force while others were around.
"Sorry. I was buried in my own thoughts," you tried to explain yourself.
"How did you manage it. Thought you were only a librarian. Are you mountain climber at the side?" She joked while starting to walk again. She was probably referring to your so called "running".
"No, I've just trained a lot recently," you said. like that explained anything. You remember "those" days in the force, which you only referred to as "Hell". It was a few days were you had to run different routes. Of course that wouldn't be hard if not the pony who planned those routes had a hatred againts any living thing. You sometimes looked back on those days and felt sorry for the recruits now-a-days. You snapped back to reality and you noticed how far up you both had come. After a few minutes you were almost at the top of the mountain and you could hear that this was it. Your asscoiate was really showing it by moving slightly faster and you could hear her exhaustion. You walked just for a few more minutes before reaching the top.
The overview was fantastic. You could look down and spot Ponyville and you could get a close look at Canterlot, your home. You felt kinda homesick right now. Sure, the place wasn't as great as everyone said it was and of course your job was kinda rubbish, but it was your mess and it was your home. You stood and looked at it for a little while. Just looking at your home from the other side of the city. The place looked so wonderful.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" The unicorn stood next to you.
"Yes, yes it is," you said with a smile. You started unpacking the various things you had with you. You handed the bag to the exhausted climber and went on to put up a tent. If you had understood the instructions right, the meteor storm wasn't supposed to happend before much later. The following day to be precise so you would have to sleep here tonight. You were told that it was only for preperations. You could understand that and you didn't complain. This seemed like a good spot. It was starting to get late so you both said your goodnights and she went inside her tent. You could see that the lamp inside got turned off.
You just sat there for a little while, just looking at Canterlot. It was so different. You could understand why so many ponies had been told that it was fantastic. All of them had probably just seen it from the outside. You thought over the good things you still had in Canterlot. A place to sleep (Which weren't the streets so you couldn't complain), the lovey job and the city itself. Despite all it flaws, a life there weren't bad. It was just so much more on the inside than what was said by everypony. You crawled into your tent. You would have a lot of time to look at it. It had been a long day filled with climbing and little sleep. Maybe you could finally sleep ok.
You woke up to a wonderful morning. The night had been great and you were only waken a few times. This peace weren't good for you. It was like a vacation, which you rarely got, but it was combined with work. You were unsure if you should always be on guard or relax and your body acted in the same way. It was probably things that you made up in your mind. Things like sounds and waking up with the feeling of the presence of another pony or animal, but overall you had a good night sleep and you were ready to embrace the new day on top of the mountain. This really sounded like one of those survival ideas you had heard about. Putting ponies in the middle of nowhere and just wish them luck before you leave them there with nothing. You had woken up a bit before your partner, or anypony else for that matter. You could see the glorious sun peeking just above the mountains a bit further away. You thought it would be best to scout the area. Just to see if anything was around. You had placed the camp on a place where you were cut off from the rest of the mountain. It made it possible to see the almost the entire sky, but not bump into other ponies while doing so. Not that it would cause a problem. You took a little walk around the area. Nothing special, but you didn't expect anything either. You thought it would be great to make some breakfast. You could finally eat something that wasn't just a quick bite. It was quite sad how many of your meals had consisted with just eating something which wasn't made by yourself. Grabbing an apple or eat dinner and one of the local resturants for example. By the time you had made breakfast, you could hear the unicorn in the other tent waking up. You walked over to the tent and knocked on it. You had placed the tents a little bit away from the fire and under some trees should the rain "disturb" you while you were sleeping.
"Are you awake?" The answer was obvious as you heard something sounding like a yes.
"Do you want some breakfast?" You couldn't hear anyhting for a while so you thought that she had probably fallen asleep again. You calmly walked away to supervise the food, but as you sat down, you heard the tent being opened. The unicorn poked her head out.
"Breakfast?" You couldn't help but laugh. She seemed utterly and completly lost, and her mane didn't make it any better. You had the time to fix yours before doing anything.
"Would you like some privacy to fix your mane?" You tried not to laugh as the pony right across of you quickly went into the tent again. You took that as a yes,
"I'll save some food for you then!" You said a little bit higher so you knew she would hear it.
It took a few minutes but the unicorn came outside after a while. She looked "normal" this time.
"Did you have a good night sleep?" You looked at her with a teasing grin.
"I didn't look that bad, did I?" She replied.
"Of course not," you were raised to be a gentlecolt. Most of the times at least.
"So we just wait for the night to come up or...?" you asked.
"Well actually, I need some help with setting up all the different things," you looked at her. "If you don't mind of course," she quickly added.
"No problem," you answered, you were confused by this. Weren't she a powerful unicorn? Wouldn't it be easier for her just to do it herself. Well, it would demand a lot of power and it would be sad to be exhausted by the time you would watch the major event. She had brougth with her many things and your jaw almost dropped when you saw all of it. It was everything from a telescope to something to sit at. You started setting everything up. By the time you were done, half the day had already past. It looked wonderful though and you just to place your things up. It didn't consist of nearly as much as her stuff. You had brought with you supplies and all that but just to watch the meteor shower and not study it. You almost felt ashamed when you compared what you both had brought. She had brought an entire study kit. It was books about the subject, the telescope and something to write on and with. She was really going to document the entire thing.
"I see you're ready," you said.
"Do you think I overpacked?" She looked at you.
"For your purpose? No," you answered. It was obvious what she was going to do.
You spent the next hours getting better known. You hadn't really been communicating much with anypony for a very long time so a nice chat was great right now. She told you all about her experiences with friendship and all the wicked things that had happened while she was in Ponyville. You on the other hand could share none of yours. It was very sad that you had to live this lie. It wasn't fair for anypony. You hoped for this time sake that you could build up a friendship with somepony you were meant to spy upon. Most of them didn't have a positive outcome.
You watched as the day slowly turned into night again. This view was amazing. You could see both sunset and sunrise. It was a perfect spot to watch such an event. You looked over at the purple unicorn who sat ready and gazed up into the sky in awe.
One had to say that it was simply gorgeous. The group of lights which flew past you made this mountain trip worth it. It got dark, but that only made the meteors shine more. You were amazed about how awesome such an event could be. You looked over at your partner to see if she had started to document the thing and noticed something. She was freezing. Not the usual it is cold freezing but the not-good freezing. You were high over the ground and it was cold right now, really cold. You watched the unicorn as she seemed to feel the weather and you had to do something.
"Twilight, are you ok?" You asked.
"I..am...fine," she said stuttering. You walked over to her.
"You forgot something, didn't you?" You said while waiting for a response. She looked down into the ground which you took as a response. Without thinking about it you placed your blanket around her.
"Take this," you said. She looked at you.
"But what about you?" She seemed to concerned but you assured her that you would be fine.
"I'll just get something from my bag," you responded while moving slowly towards the bag. You found something to make a fire of. You had already done it earlier the same day, but you weren't sure if it was enough to make another fire. You gathered as much wood as you could in a hurry and aimed your horn at the fireplace. It was basic survival for every unicorn to learn how to make fire. It didn't have to be much but it had to be enough to make something combust. Fire, in your case, wasn't that much of a problem. The wood seemed to get warmer and fire was made in a blink of an eye. You sat down next to the little fireplace and you felt the warm flow through you. Unfortunatly, the fireplace wasn't placed in a good spot to watch the sky, but rather to be close to the tents. You still had a better view than most of the ponies in Ponyville so you couldn't complain. Twilight looked at you with concerned eyes.
"Are you ok?" She asked. She seemed to be concerned about you which was appreciated.
"Nah, I got a great view and I'm warm," You replied. The fire weren't as strong as you liked it to be, but it kept you warm.
"I feel so bad for making you sit back there and not watch it from such a great view," You heard from the unicorn.
"Your concern is fantastic but there is no worries. I believe you should watch it instead of giving me the attention." Your reply seemed to work as the unicorn turned again and watched the meteors fly through the sky.
You sat there for a while, admiring the shower before your view was interrupted. The unicorn had walked from her place without you even noticing. You looked up seeing her with a concerned look. You knew what it meant so you got up. You walked past her and made a gesture that she should go back and sit at her spot.
"I know you are feeling guilty for all of this, but you need to watch this." You said while looking at her with a smile, showing that you weren't mad at her for thinking of you.
"But you can't just sit there and miss it yourself," she replied. She wasn't going to let this go so you had to do something about it.
"First of all, I can see the shower from a great view. Second, I can sacrifice my spot for your pleasure as you get more of this than I do. I watch it for the wonderful sight as it is. You watch it for the knowledge behind it, but if you don't like me sitting back there I'll sit here in front," you said as you sat down on the spot you had sat on before you withdrew to the campfire, still making the gesture that she should sit down. She sat down before looking at you again.
"Aren't you cold?"
"Nah, I'm used to being cold," you lied. You didn't like cold. Canterlot, where you had spent most of your life weren't excactly cold very often. The only times you had gathered experience from it was when the force had its usual "artic training". You despised it as it limited your ability to do much. Running and in general surviving in those temperatures were beyond your understanding. After a little while you started feeling it. Your body was stating that you had to get warm or kissing your flank goodbye.
"Take this," you suddenly heard. You shouldn't have done this as it seemed to limit your reaction. You looked up and saw the unicorn. She put the blanket around you and went back to her spot.
"I'm not very good at hiding it am I?" You looked at her with a smile. She looked back at you with a smile.
"It will soon be over so you can head to bed. I'm thankful that you gave it to me but you shouldn't do it in fear of your own health," She said.
"Well, it was a short term thought. Probably very stupid but I don't regret it," you replied, still smiling a little. There was a short pause before you saw that the meteor shower end and the sky returned to it's natural black. You both stood up before she hugged you. She was very warm, probably because your body was striving for warmth.
"Thank you," she whispered.
You stood still a little in shock before you replied "No problem," and returned the hug. You stood there for a moment before you whipsered "care to dance?" She was obviously shocked by the question.
"What do you mean?" She replied.
"Dance. I need to get warmer and dancing seemed like the funniest way of doing such, and why do it alone?" You said with a smile.
"Well, ok, but I have no idea how."
"Oh it's easy," you said. You started showing her some moves that would be described as tango for some. All of a sudden you two were dancing on top of the mountain with no music at all. That must have seemed wierd for about anypony, should there be any watching. You stopped after a while and returned to your tents.
Before going into the tents, the unicorn turned to you and said: "We should do that another time".
"Is that a date Miss Sparkle?" You said, making her blush. She seemed to be out of words so you followed up with saying, "I would love to."
You lay down on your bed and before you fell asleep you tried to think of the times you had ended up dancing when you were on a mission. You counted 1 and smiled before you fell asleep.
You woke up the following morning and packed your things and ventured back to Ponyville. The meteor shower was over and what a wonder it had been to see it. It really showed how fantastic the univers was. The walk back home was a bit better than the walk up. The reason for it was the incident that occured last night had made you two friends, if not closer. The job really made this hard as you tried to think positive about the end of this case.
"The Princess is probably just paranoid, nothing to worry about," you mumbled to yourself though you knew that the Princess rarely was wrong when she said that something would go wrong. You always had a slower pase than Twilight as you went down the mountain. Therefor you could look up and think for a second what the buck you were doing. Why did you have to become friends with this mare, join her on a field trip and finally dance with her. This weren't excactly smart though you weren't the pony who usually was known for his smart thinking. The work didn't really demand such. Though it demanded that you didn't act foolish. You hadn't done so yet. Not as much at least. All the thoughts was flying through your mind. You tried to justify how what you did was right, againts what you concluded was your rational part. You didn't really see where you walked as you slipped on some rock and hit the ground pretty hard. Fortunatly for you, you didn't fall down the entire mountain. Twilight turned as you made a wierd sound as you hit the ground. Something along the lines of a timberwolf being hit by a rock.
"Are you ok?" The mare said as she somewhat ran towards you. She helped you up as you tried your best to still look presentable.
"I'm fine, thanks," you said. You started walking, but this time she held a pase similar to yours. You were right next to eachother all the way down to the mountain and back to Ponyville. "Seems like I'm being watched to," you smiled as you enjoyed the company of this mare next to you. It seemed like the problems of work just went away as you two spoke together or was in a general distance of eachother. Then it hit you. How had you been so foolish. Once you approached Ponyville you said your goodbyes and as you turned your back she called on you.
"Ehm...Would you mind doing something like this again," she said very quietly. She didn't seem to be the very rash type of ponies and you just had to get home.
"Sure," you answered with a smile on your face to tell her that you really liked the sound that idea.
She waved at you before dissapering into the crowd. You two had returned from the expedition just about when everyone got up from their night of sleep. You could see that business even had its impact on even this small village. You saw the crowd of people running about and you almost got lost. You waited around to let it quiet down before you made your way in the direction you guessed your home was in. You did a sharp cross around the croner, one you would regret very soon as you crashed into someone. You quickly got back on your hooves but the yellow pegasus didn't seem quite so fortunate. You bent down to try to help her up.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't see where I was walking. Are you alright?" You asked as you got the mare up from the ground. It was like the crash had put her into a shock as she just stood there, completly quiet. You introduced yourself and asked again if she was "ok".
"I'm fine," she said but the words were too quiet for you to understand.
"Excuse me, I didn't catch what you were saying," you said with a more embarrasing face. You'd probably sent that poor mare in as shock. She repeated it in the same fashion as before and this time you were lucky. You managed to understand what she said and you made your excuses for the incident again and left. You had to get home quick.
You reached the house not many minutes after and you went inside and shut the door behind you. You systematically put everything in some sort of order and sat down. Not long after you put a hoof up to your face and thougth really hard on what you were doing. If your boss had found out about it you were done. You suddenly realized who your boss was and cringed. You wondered how the moon looked at this time of year. It was time to really think about your decisions. You were obviously in love and that was probably your own fault. You could've just replied in the negative when she asked you. This is what happends when you get to have a vacation styled mission. Didn't the Princess have someone else to send instead of you. You weren't excactly top notch, atleast by your own standard. Apperantly you were as you had some achivements for the squad. You were the one they called in for a bit more dangerous cases. This, on the other hand. was seen by you as a way to kill you. Some of those criminals were insane.
You sat there for a while and thought about different things. Some seconds later it knocked on your door and you, with a wonderous look, made your way to the door. You tried to hear for any sound at all, but you didn't hear a thing. You suddenly realized that this wasn't Canterlot and you opened the door. In Canterlot there was a problem regarding just that and burglars. You set your eyes to whoever could knock on your door and found out that it was none other than the pony you had knocked into on your way home. The mare you had thought was in a shock was now at your doorstep. One could say this was a quick return.
"Um..Hi?" You said, trying to see if she was talking. Would the situation be as it was earlier then one should be ready to sharpen ones ears.
The yellow pegasus tried to speak up but her words faded before they could reach you. You made a gesture that you couldn't hear what she was saying and on que, a little white rabbit jumped up beside her. He or maybe a she, you weren't so good with animal races, made a slight annoyed push and seemed to be actually speaking with her. Now that was quite remarkable. It was either that or you were easily impressed. Animals weren't so common in Canterlot and the only few who came in was for show only. When the rabbit made contact with her she lit up. Like something had suddenly changed and she weren't so shy anymore.
"Um, yes, I wanted to return this to you," she said while holding a card in your direction. It took a while before you realized what it was and when you did, you snatched the card from her, making the pegasus jump back in fear.
"Sorry, I just got shocked when you showed me the card," you said while helping her up. "Where did you find it?" you asked when she got up from ground.
"Um, I found it when we bumped into eachother earlier. Sorry about that," She replied. She didn't even try to blame this on you, as it was clearly all your fault, but she rather put the blame on herself. You were astonished as how this mare acted. If it weren't for the fact that you were in a small village, you would have arrested her by now, suspecting her for something because that just isn't normal. Though you had already come over the fact that this wasn't Canterlot. People here was nice in general and not just because they wanted to scam, backstab, steal or arson something. The latter weren't something exactly funny.
"Ok, well thank you for returning the card, hope it wasn't too much of a worry," you thanked her. At that point she lit up more than when the rabbit kicked her and responded.
"No problem, I live just over there," she explained while pointing at the direction leading further out of town. You could see the house a little further down. A small cottage. She was sort of you neighbour even though you weren't exactly close to eachother. You thanked her again for bringing back you bleonging and you shut the door as she walked outside again.
You quickly bashed your head againts the wall. The wall weren't very thick so you could do so without causing much pain to either parts. The card she gave you was an identification. It said who you were. Not the pony arriving in Ponyville but rather the unicorn who had taken the job to spy upon one if its citizens. How could you be so foolish? You had brought it with you up in case of an "incident" but you probably packed it far too unconcealed so when you bumped into her at the market, it fell off from your bag. The blame was all yours as you should have packed it way better. Hopefully she hadn't read anything or knew Twiligth Sparkle. That would be a giant setback or even jeopardize the whole mission. You had to think about this for a second before you flung your coat on and rushed out the door to catch up with the pink haired peagasus. Hopefully you managed to catch up with her before she got home.
You caught up with her just as she was about to enter the cottage. She must have heard you coming because she turned around and faced in your direction. You had to make yourself heard so you made extra noice as your hooves hit the ground. You stopped for a moment to catch your breath before you started to talk.
"Did you by any chance read the card?" You quickly said. The mare just looked at you a little confused. Well who could blame her. You tried to explain it.
"It was some vitale information on it, and it shouldn't be allowed for anyone to see. There's no worries on your part though," you said, formulating the question to sound a little better. The poor thing could've gotten into a bigger shock than the last time.
"Y-yyes," she said with a shy voice. She reminded you of a mare you had known back in the city. She always tried to be as innocent as possible. You were friends with her when you both studied but she dropped out when it became hard. She is at this point either in jail or in Canterlot, trying to steal the money of innocent bystanders. A shame really.
"Well, ok, no problems. I just need you to keep this a secret between the two of us. Could that be arrangeable?" You talked like you were back in Canterlot. Information or the lack of it to the wrong sources usually had its cost. You talked like you were ready to make a deal but she just nodded and went inside her little cottage, just as the conversation had never taken place. You read it as her word of not telling anyone and you smiled as you turned and went back to your little house.
She would probably never make the entire connecting with just that card, but you couldn't take any risks. If she knew Twilight and they talked about the new pony in town who turned out to be a lot different from view to view, things would get really bad. In Twilights eyes you were nothing but a boring librarian but the facts that was exposed about you told an entire different story. You shut the door behind you and walked slowly up to your room. You lay down on the bed before closing your eyes. Today had been a hard day and even though it was still "morning" for some, you had to sleep. You had done too many things today you were going to regret someday and you wouldn't like to do another. Just as you thought of it, it knocked on the door again.
One couldn't be mad at whoever it was for "waking" you. It weren't exactly night and everypony was still expected to be up. You opened the door and to your surprise, the mare in question was right there. Twilight Sparkle stood there. She seemed cold so you invited her in. She quickly rejected your polite invite and instead asked a wierd question.
"About the thing you said when we were alone..." She stopped. It was obviously hard for her to talk about so you knew what it was all about.
"About the date?" The word "date" triggered something and she continued.
"Yes...I was just wondering if we could go on one...together." She was really bad at this. Even you, the non social pony from Canterlot could do better. Well, you couldn't complain, she was the one to ask.
"Surely, I'll pick you up tomorrow and we could go some place, maybe have a meal together," You said in a more questioning way. You were still unsure if you wanted to be the one in charge of those decisions. She was better known in the area and she was a pony who needed system it seemed. Therefor you added "If that is okey for you?" After a while.
"Yes, that sounds great," she said as she walked away with a slight embarrased face. That demanded guts from someone like her and you just had to respect that. You waved at her before going inside again.
You lay down on the bed again and thought for yourself. The decision to involve or not had become too big. You had to decide if you should dive into her life or not. Perhaps it was already too late, you had just agreed on going on a date with her. Seemed like you had to finish the fight.
Your eyes sprung up like they were rabbits scared by lions. You felt tired and wanted to go back to bed so you checked the time to see if that could be arranged. You looked outside and still saw the moon hanging there, so you went back to sleep knowing the sun wasn't going to bother you for some time. The only problem was closing your eyes, a task which seemed impossible for the moment. You got up from bed and wondered if it was a curse. Sleeping was, in the opinion of your body, out of the question for the moment.
"Well, no point fighting it," you thought as you walked around the house for sometime trying to figure out what to do. After some time you sat down to read a book. This had to be a great way to be tired again!
You sat there for a while, scanning the words. You lived into the charcter of a treasure hunter, trying to claim a long lost treasure which could only be found in a deep temple somewhere far away. You closed the book, thinking something along the line of what you were doing. You couldn't have gotten much sleep as the lack of it brought forth the inner critic in you. The floor seemed nice for a couple of seconds so you placed yourself right next to the window and looked outide. Ponyville was pitch black but that wasn't the incredible thing. The moon on the other hand, how you had missed it. Physically it had been there every night. You just didn't pay her enough attention. You couldn't do this to the sun, as you would lose your sight in a hurry if you tried to look at it for long enough but you could watch the moon. Ahh. the moon, always the unnoticed but the prime example of a job well done. You started to compare the Princesses and their work. Luna's moon was pretty and masterly done but downright dead. Celestia's sun was lifegiving but just a ball of fire. You got up. Enough viewing of art today, and it was time to get some work done. You put your coat on and went outside.
The darkness was everywhere and you really had to wait for your eyes to adjust to the night. When that obstacle was overcome, you walked down the marked path which led away from your house. You reached Ponyville a little later. The darkness wasn't exactly gone and you were amazed of how the town looked in the night. How peaceful and all. Canterlot had a rather different look. If it weren't Manehatten style then it was a bad place to live. In other words, should some of the light not touch a building, that building would be a bad structure to live in. There would be someone there who were doing something you or any authority figure would have to stop them for.
You moved on untill you got to the library. You had to check if anything had changed. She was asleep now. No lights where on in either floors so you continued to walk. She was supposed to be protected form herself and you had been chosen to watch over her. It was a nightshift you just had to take. You walked around Ponyville, trying your best to find a nice resturant in the dark. You had to be prepared for your little date later this day. You felt you owed her something for bringing this lie into her life and this seemed like a nice thing to do. You wondered if she was going to throw you across the room if she were to find out who you were. Maybe if you talked to her and told who you were, she would understand and you both could start a new life together. Either that or the flying through room idea. Only one seemed to end where you wanted it...You flying across the room. You had introduced yourself on a lie, you had fell in love with her on a lie and if she liked you back...That was a feeling you just couldn't bear right now. You had to get some sleep before you went to the library to pick her up.
You quickly scavenged the little village and soon foound two resturants which you found appropriate to bring a mare to. The other ones seemed like either cheap or very dodgy. In this case it was very, very dodgy. You thought a plan B and put the idea into motion.
"The mare deservers to get something better than this," you thought. You moved home where you tried to get some sleep, but it was in vain. You spent the next hour or two trying to get your brain to shut down and your eyes to fall to the ground which completed the whole idea of "sleeping". After your "sleep", you got up and got some breakfast. After that it was out to knock on the door to the library. It was custom back in Canterlot to check if your 'date' was ready for the night or if she had fled the town. The latter of course being a joke...most of the times at least. You went outside with a smile in your face, ready to meet the new morning. Everything was 'jolly' as the upper-class ponies said when they tried to impress eachother with fine words.
You walked up to the library and was about to knock gently on the door when you heard voices. Now, you couldn't interrupt a conversation so you quietly placed yourself outside one of the library's many windows and overheard what the were saying.
"Of course my dear, he seems like a fine stallion for you," one mare said. You knew who she was as you recognized that talk anywhere. Now what was Rarity doing in her library? She didn't seem like the type who read books. Twilight had mentioned that she was one of her friends so you just continued to listen without thinking more of the case.
"I know, I know, It's just...," She paused. You got the impression that Rarity knew what she was doing as you started talking about love...And love making. This, on the other hand got disrupted by the lavender unicorn in a time which could seem like an academy record back in Celestia's school.
"I'm not ready for that stage yet, but how about a kiss. How does it feel like?" Rarity must have died because it got quiet. Too quiet. She then cleared her throat and told her all about how wonderful it was and the first would always be remembered as a blast in her own mind. It was very gloryfied and it seems like she bought it all. You didn't go out much but even you had kissed a few mares before. You wouldn't really recall the first incident as you had tried really hard to forget it. You kept listening to the conversation for a little while before you heard Rarity talk in a fashion that it was time for her to leave. As she was about to open the door, you posistioned yourself to seem as much innocent as ponely possible. You walked towards the library and Rarity obviously saw you. You saw her turn around and whipser something to the resident inside before looking at you again with a somewhat sly grin before she left. As you walked by she said something but you didn't catch it. It probably didn't matter anyway. You met the eyes of the mare who, rigth now, stood on the other side of the door. You were kinda lost on words after hearing a bit 'embarrasing' parts in the earlier conversation but you managed to put out a "Hey". You sounded like you were back in college, or at least would sound if you actually cared about that stuff during that time and not about reading the knowledge of defensive, offensive spells. Celestia had given you that book of spell once which now followed you like a token of greatness. It's a shame you were going to throw it when the mission was done. The symbolic value had falled by a lot during this mission and you didn't intend to keep it anymore.
"Hi," she replied. She sounded as bad as you did, probably to ease the mood.
"About later today, I would like to talk to you about it. May I come in?" You asked and she made a gesture for you that you were welcome inside the library, which still looked like a tree. You just couldn't get that out of your mind. You sat down and she placed herself at the opposit end of you.
"So, you are probably better than me in planning, by a lot," You opened. To a somehwat response from her that yelled, 'yep'. You coninued.
"Therefor I would like to invite you with me to the 'Silent Mare' in Canterlot." You said. She looked at you, baffled.
"But that is the most expensive and prestigious places in all of Canterlot. How did you manage to get a table?" She looks at you. This was really the question which was going to nag her for some time.
"It's a secret, but will you join me?" You ask.
"Of course I will," she said before embracing you in a hug. You said your goodbyes and you left the library. You knew a pony at the "Silent Mare" which owed you a favor. The pony in the alleyway a long time ago had sent a letter and thanked you for giving him a head start and gave you a table, at anytime you wanted, for as many ponies to his resturant. You didn't get the name before you was there for a brief moment before your train left to Ponyville. You were in a shock even after you left the train.
Later that day, you came to the library and knocked. You had given her sometime to prepare before your transportation would get here. It was a cart, driven by the two best guards you knew, who also owned you a favor. Theirs was for something completly different than the resturant business, but they saddled up when you sent them a message.
You knocked on the library a few times before you were greeted by the mare who lived there and what a sight. She was wearing a beautiful dress with stars and all. You had to ask here where she got that from and the answer was of course "Rarity". You took her to the place where you had agreed to be picked up and she stopped for a second.
"Shouldn't we be going to the station. The train will leave soon," she said with a mixture of sorrow and hope. Hope that this would be better than a train ride, and sorrow that she might be let down on what seemed like her first date.
"Tell me, Ms. Sparkle, how many dates have you been on?" you looked at her while making your suit ready for impact. Her face got red.
"Well, to be honest, this is my first," she said. As red as ever. You had to make her loosen up.
"Well, Twilight, there is a first time for everything." you said while charging up a magic spell in your horn. You fired it up in the air. It was a S.O.S sign and it made the sky completly red, just above you.
"Why did you do that?" She said.
"Well, we are going to lose our train. We are in need of some assistance, yes?" You looked at her jokingly as two stallions came out the night sky and landed right next to you. You opened the door and made a gesture for her to step inside. It was a usual royal cart, but this was made to not let any wind hit you on the way. It was commonly used for transportation of people who didn't want to be messy for a party. She was amazed on how you had handled the situation and stepped inside.
"Wow," she said. "But how?"
"My dear, that is a question for another time," you replied while looking at her with a grin.
"You just worry that you will have a great nigth and I hope to deliver it to you," you said in a more serious manner.
"That shouldn't be a prolem," she said. You made a gesture to the two stallions that it was time to make haste and they made a sprint before going straight up and change in the direction towards Canterlot. This was going to be a great night.
Upon arriving to Canterlot you noticed something. You had been gone for what you thought was atleast three weeks and that really set the mood for you as you went out of the cart and helped your 'date' out. You waved goodbye to the drivers and whispered to them that you hoped they would manage to bring you back to Ponyville. The Canterlot guard wasn't exactly bad at repaying a service so they told you that you only needed to ask them when you were going to leave. You told them that you knew where to find them and you would see them there, and they departed shortly after. The Princess didn't know that you were in town again and you would like it to stay so. Therefore you moved only through the rich parts of town. This were the places where the chance of you being recognized was small. Incredibly small as most of the upper-class ponies had only seen you in the dirty outfit you used for work. It was a safe bet.
You ventured through the streets and about this point you noticed how well they were made. You had never walked in the street of the upper-class, for obvious reason. It was almost like finding the golden city if one should compare it to the other streets of Canterlot. You finally got to the location. It hadn't changed for the time you had been gone and you entered. The mare who greeted you was in charge to keep the reservations and she seemed really proud of her job. You didn't have to be a good pony knower to see if a smile was real or not. You walked up to the register and tried to behave as nicely as you could possibly could.
"Good evening, do you have the reservation order with you?" She said. It was obvious that only the top mares and colts were here and you replied in a negative, to much surprise from both your date and the other mare.
"No, I do not have an order but I got this," you said while showing her the paper you had gotten and the mare lit up.
"Of course, right this way," she said while walking in front of you and making a gesture for you both to follow her. You had only just sat down and handed your menues when Twilight asked you.
"What did you show her?" She said.
"As I said, I know the manager of this place," you replied. You knew him in a way that you didn't arrest him when you were face to face and that had to count for something. A night at a famous resturant seemed to be the equivalent thing to just that. You sat there and talked a bit more. How you both had been since you last saw eachother and she told you other stories about her adventures with her friends. A mare came up to you to take your orders.
"Have you decided yet?" She asked. They seemed only to hire those who were fond of their job and that was respectable.
"What would you like Twilight?" You faced the mare who sat on the opposit end of you who seemed to be reading something harder than any book ever before.
"I'll have one of those," she said and moved her hoof so the waitress could see what she pointed at. The menues were made for those who didn't know anything about the food they served. It was pictures next to most of the food which seemed to be from very exotic places.
"A number 5, alright, and you sir?" She turned to you. You looked quickly at number five and thought for a second if you would manage to eat that. The name was wierd so you didn't try to pronunce it.
"I'll take a number five to," you said while giving her both of your menues.
"Ok, sir, it will be ready for you in about half an hour," she said and walked away from the table. You continued to chat with your date and after a little delay, the food arrived and what a masterpiece it was. You started eating and after a while you tried to get some dinner conversation with your partner.
"How was it?" you asked. She looked up and met your eyes.
"It was lovely," she said.
"Well, how fantastic," you replied. You really had to admit. This was some good...whatever it was. You both had finished eating and you sat there and had your usual dinner conversation...Well almost. She didn't seem to run out of stories to tell you and you couldn't complain. They were really exciting. After a while you stood up and walked over to her side of the table.
"Care to dance?" You said. The round table which you had been eating was strategically placed to face the open space of the resturant which served as the dance floor when the musicians played. Tonight seemed to be one of those nights as the musicians played some tunes which served great for the kind of dancing you thought of. She looked at you embarrased.
"But, I can't dance," she said. Her face turned red.
"Well, as I said Ms. Sparkle. There has to be a first time for everything. Just follow my lead, ok?" You said while taking her hoof and leading her to the dance floor. The song which played was wonderful but it didn't really set the mood but you danced through it, and through the next song. You were overjoyed about the company this mare had been but the guilt was raising with it. You thought and figured you had to say it. It didn't mean that it had to be over for your mission if she knew who you were. It could, possibly, even open for even more guarding from your side.
"Twilight, I have something to tell you," You said. You voice was dark with a little bit of sadness in it but she saw right through it. You thought she really had hit the mood.
"I'm so happy, I feel like nothing can ruin this," she said and you did something, which were probably the stupidest thing you could have done at that moment. You embraced her in a kiss. It wasn't a heavy one but it would probably be one who was felt for her as she stopped up. You wondered if you had gone too far.
"Twilight, are you ok?" You asked while regreting that desicion you made. You looked her in the eyes and let her go while yelling out in the resturant:
"Everypony! Get out! NOW!" You yelled. Some of them seemed to recognize who you were and ran out which caused a chain reaction throughout the resturant and everypony were gone in a matter of seconds. Leaving only you and your date.
You focused on her again as you touched her and a reaction happend. She opened her eyes again which was now filled with purple energy. This was a really, really bad time for this to happend as you tried to snap her out of it. She began to shoot spells at random and hit several of the objects in the resturant. Some of them growed and some just died. You knew what you had to do but you just couldn't. You tried to think fast about last time which Celestia had told you about. She comforted her and that is what you did. You ran up to her and embraced her. That had its negativ effect as you were hit from one of the bolts and got struck to the ground. You felt the pain in your left side. Something had to have been broken from the impact but you didn't mindthe pain for the moment.
"Twilight, can you hear me!" you yelled with tears in your eyes. You knew what you had to do and the point of no return was soon reached. No emotion or answer were shown by your plead. You took a few steps back and your horn began to glow.
"I'm sorry Twilight," you whispered before releasing the magic from your horn and fired a bolt towards her. It flew through the air in a time which seemed like forever and hit her, right beneath the stomach area to be exact. Her eyes went back to normal and she fell towards the ground but you were quick and managed to pick her before she hit the floor.
You were badly injured so you laid her down on the floor and lay down next to her. In the hurry you forgot to check her pulse to see if she was alive but you just lay next to her and looked at her. She seemed like she was sleeping and that she would wake up very soon. You tried to stay awake for as long as possible and before you gave in you fired a bolt which flew through a nearby window. S.O.S.
In your mind you were still awake. The incident had never happened and you both swept over the floor together, still embraced and the music playing the lovely tunes you had been looking for. There was a pause and she looked at you while you looked back at her and you both shared a kiss. It wasn't a friendly one, but a kiss between lovers, oh how you whished for that to come true. You fast forwarded and you were back in Ponyville with her. You both walked together, but not like friends. No, this was the pace which was shared by those who loved eachother.
You woke up. This couldn't be a dream but it did seem awfully white. You looked down and noticed that you were in a bed, and this was Canterlot hospital from what you knew of the building. Not the usual hospital but the royal one. Where you sent those who needed immediate attention. You got up and felt the strange feeling of your hooves hitting the ground. You didn't like being in hospitals because you always felt so helpless when you woke up, no matter the time you slept. A nurse came in and notcied that you were already out of bed and was about to leave the room.
"Sir, sir, you have to sit down again," she said. You couldn't. You had to find her, no matter the cost. You continued walking and she kept nagging about getting back to bed. You turned quickly and faced her.
"Where is Twilight Sparkle?" You said in a serious manner. The weren't the time for playing but the time for you to get some facts. You had made a huge mistake which had to be fixed or else you would stay here for quiet sometime. The doctors could heal many things but this kind of guilt couldn't be cured by nopony. You didn't even know if she survived. You got two more steps before you broke down. You didn't know if it was due to fattigue or the failure of your body. The nurse panicked and got to your assistance. She put you in a wheelchair and you both talked for a while. She asked you the usual questions about how you felt and you tried desperatly to change the subject.
"Ok, listen to me, where is Twilight?" You almsot yelled out after being tired of the questions she asked.
"Oh, she survived but she is still sleeping. You can't visit her now," she said. You didn't know how to feel. You were relieved that she survived but the guilt didn't just disappear just like that.
"Please, take me to her, I need to see her," you begged. The nurse got up and rolled you to the part of the clinic where Twilight was. The mare suddenly stopped when a voice adressed her. It was a familiar one but you couldn't get the hang of who it was. She told the nurse to leave you two alone and the nurse walked away. You turned around to see one of your biggest fears. The mare in white.
The mood was really bad. You hoped that she didn't know about your little action in the resturant last night but you knew better than to doubt the knowledge of the Princess. It was your doubt that had put you up in this and you were ready to face the consequences for what you had done. You would probably have to answer for a lot more than just the lastest incident but you didn't mind. Twilight was sleeping peacefully in a bed somewhere in this hospital and that was a outcome you really had hoped for. You weren't sure about which spell to choose but you picked the one which, you thought, would lead to less damage. Since there was no recording of such an incident ever happend, the result had worked really well and only put her to sleep. You had dodged the look Celestia had given you put now you faced it. You were ready for what she would say, no matter how bad it was.
"You know what you did wrong?" She asked. You pulled together everything you had done which led to a negativ outcome for the case.
"Yes. I didn't pay too much attention to her as a whole but got too close in a more physical way. I took way too easy on the mission and the results of my action almost got an innocent mare killed," You summerized. You knew there was more but you waited for her to say the final words. You were gone from the force, but you would like to hear it from her.
"I see," She replied, to your amazement. She weren't going to incinerate you? Not throw you out of the hospital with your damaged side first? This was a positiv start atleast. She continued.
"I am not fond of the outcome, but you did your part as told to you," she said while looking out of the window. This case had hurt her really bad. Not physically but mentally.
"May I see her?" You begged. You tried to be as humble as possible to at least see Twilight for the last time to tell her how sorry you were...For everything.
"I'm sorry but I can't allow that. We do not know how she will react and therefore it is best for all if she never sees you again," She marked. Your brain stopped and you watched aimlessly out in the sky. This is how it was going to end? Twilight would never been seen by you again and you just had to leave her like this. Never knowing how she recovered. It was a hard blow, but Celestia seemed to have more to say.
"You will be sent back to Ponyville right now to pack your belongings and return to duty next week," She commanded. You couldn't really debate and you stood up before being escorted to a nearby cart. This was a fast trip as you would only be there, pack, and get transported right back to your original home. You walked out of the hospital with a sad remark on your face. You sat down into the wagon and you flew away in a matter of seconds.
You entered your house in Ponyville and began to pack. You were almost done when it knocked on the door. You opened to see the faces of five ponies There was Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Applejack, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie and they all looked curious. They had no idea what happend. Rarity tried to make contact after a while.
"So, how did the date go?" She said with a smile. Trying to lighten up a situation which already seemed dark. You turned to her and the crowd.
"I bucked up and Twilight is in hospital. I had to disarm her but she will survive," you informed. There was nothing more to it then that. You were not ready to sit down with her friends and have a 'chat'. It was time to forget it all. Applejack moved a bit closer to you.
"Who are you?" She said in a low voice.
"I'm an agent at the defence againts dangerous unicorns," you replied while moving past her and the rest of her friends.
"So she was nothing more to you than a job? I bet you didn't even love her," Rainbow Dash stated. You dropped your bag. That sentence summerized everything you had hated about the mission and what you had become. You picked up the bag and tried to move to the cart but Rainbow blocked the path.
"Are you going to answer the question?" She bugged you. You knew you had to answer them someday. If it was for yourself or anypony else didn't really matter.
"Rainbow, you don't want to me answer that so please get out of my way," you commanded as your faced turned from facing the ground to looking straight at her. She didn't move and you were forced to take action. You grabbed her and pushed her to the side.
"I will always love Twilight, no matter what and never forget it," You angrily replied. Tears were running down your eyes as you faced her. She seemed to get it as she moved back to the rest of the group. They all knew what you had said and they backed off and let you get into your cart. You flew off and you didn't pay one thought to Ponyville.
You were back in Cantelrot and you quickly threw the bag inside your house. You ran towards the hospital with one thought in mind: Twilight. You got there and asked one of the nurses if she could point in the direction where Twilight Sparkle was. She showed you the way and you rushed to get there. As you turned the corner, you saw Celestia. She was right outside Twilight's room like a guard to her own castle. You walked towards her as she recognized you quickly.
"What are you doing here?" She asked. You didn't answer before you were close to her.
"I am here to see Twilight," You demanded. The Princess was a bit larger than you and that really made an impression on you when she got up and moved in front of the door, cutting your path.
"No, you are not. You will turn back and return to your job. Do not forget that I was the one to give you such a chance so do not throw it away after all those years in study." Her speech had given you none second-thoughts as you stopped and looked at her.
"Listen here Princess. Your school have taugth me much, but there is one thing you never taugth me. Do you want to know what that was?" You were done being humble to the Princess. It didn't matter what was in the way, as there was only one thing that could send you away. If Twilight would wish so then you would do as she commanded.
"What was that?" She asked.
"You never taught me about the social interaction with a mare or a stallion. This was something I had to find out on my own after many years. Love was only brought up for me when I was in work but I was already corrupted by the things I learned when I was little." You explained. It seemed to hit a certian place on the Princess as you knew she believed what you said.
"Now, If you please could move away and let me see my mare, it would be very appreciated," You asked. She actually gave in and moved away from the door and gave you a smile. You took it as her blessing and walked towards the door. You opened it quietly and looked inside. It was a giant room with a small bed inside and in it lay the mare of your dreams. She was sleeping and you moved silently and sat on a nearby chair next to her. You waited for her to wake up and after a while she did just so.
"Hello, Twilight," You said when you saw that her eyes opened a little bit. You didn't know what she was going to say but you were ready for it, no matter how hurtful it would be.
"Good morning," She said. She looked rather oblivious to what had happend.
"Do you remember anything from last night?" You said.
"Yes. I remember all up untill the point when I fell asleep," She explained. You looked down and watched the ground but she lifted your head so your eyes met hers.
"I am so sorry Twilight. I never meant to keep it a secret from you," You said.
"I know why and I am glad you atleast gave me a chance. But, can I ask you a question?" She asked.
"Twilight, you may ask whatever you want and how much you want and I will answer thruthfully," You said. You didn't have to live inside a shroud of lies anymore, and you would tell her everything if so was needed. She braced herself.
"Do you still love me?" She said. She could have asked you a bunch of questions like who you were or why you did it but she didn't. You took a pause before you met her eyes again.
"Twilight, I would describe you as the mixture of our two Princesses. One raises the moon which looks 'away' but still is as magnificent to look at as any painting I've ever seen. The other raises the sun. The ball of fire and the spark of life. You are the mixture in between and the perfect combination between the two." You moved a little close to her.
"I will always love you. My fear is that you won't love me back." That was enough for her as she embraced you in a kiss. This time it was with full passion from both of you.
It didn't take long before Twilight was out of the hospital. She moved back to Ponyville to her friends whom were very excited to see her again. She wouldn't have a problem with feeling normal again and her 'state' didn't have any effects on her. The mission was over and you were to stay in Canterlot, that is, untill you got a letter about a meeting. Due to recent events, Twilight Sparkle was too dangerous to be left alone and would need some protection. Princess Celestia felt like you were a good pick for such a job and sent you to Ponyville on a very long mission to watch over the unicorn which had caused such havok. This was a mission you took with a smile on your face before taking the next train to Ponyville.
Twilight didn't know of your arrival and thought you would stay in Canterlot and rather invite her on a date form time to time. This gave you and Pinkie Pie a great reason to host a surpirse party. You lay in wait as she came back and as she opened the door, Pinkie Pie jumped towards her and yelled her usual "Surprise!" Twilight was a bit oblivious of what was such a big surprise but then she saw you. You met as a usual couple and you told her about your latest mission. It didn't take long before you were taken into a large and a long kiss from the lavender mare.
You were as happy as could be that day and the following day the library got its first donation. A book of spells delievered by a unicorn on a mission. You said you were going to throw it away. It just so happend to be at a library. You sat down with her and talked, you talked a lot about your life because she was in need of a new and special introduction. Her friends came from time to time and listened. You were finally happy about your line of work. It didn't matter if it was dark or boring. You could do much boring things as you did it with her. You still invited her for a dance from time to time and you both got really good at it after a while. You both wrote letters to Celestia to infrom about the current situation and that was a great thing, in your honest opinion. You could finally settle down with the lavender mare and be happy about who you were.
Your life in Ponyville had been great and you had lived together with her for quiet some time now. You enjoyed Ponyville and all it had to offer, but sometimes you just had to return to the 'old place' once in a while. When you did just that, you would do so with her. You couldn't just wander off without her since this was the place she was born, just as you. You wondered if she ever missed to live here, but you never dared to ask. Ponyville was such a nice palce and you wouldn't put doubt on her mind. The few times you were here you took her to different resturants. This time, on the other hand, was a special event. It had been two months since your little 'episode' in the raher famous resturant. You had taken her back her for the first time in those two months. At first she had been worried. Would the manager accept us in again after our little accident? Would the other ponies look at us in fear and disgust? You answered all her questions and ensured her that it would be just fine. You had just arrived at the drop-off zone. Princess Celestia had told you that if you ever was in need of a lift back home, the royal cartage was at your service. You wondered why she offered it to you, but you didn't wont to bother her with such formalities. You were happy that it had ended the way it did.
"Are you ready to enter again?" You asked. She had been concerned this entire time and now you were outside. It didn't seem like they had added anything, but rather fixed the damage dealt to the building. You kissed her lightly and assured her that everything would go just fine. The name still flashed blue on top of the door, marking the resturant which was known throughout Canterlot.
"Ok," she answered after a while and you guided her in. You were greeted by the same mare that met you at your first visit. She looked up from her book of registrations and noticed you immediately. You didn't know if that was a good or a bad sign, but she didn't seem to be ready to throw you out or scream in panic.
"Good morning, you two. How has it been?" She was very happy to see you again and this really made Twilight ease off. She had held you thight once you entered and had taken an iron grip of your coat once she noticed some of the ponies regonizing her on the way in. The waiter showed you to your tables and you both sat down. You ordered the usuals which you had recieved at your last visit.
You got your food and you started eating. You conversed as usual, but it wasn't only about the usual stuff. It was about your last meeting here and how it had ended. You assured her that it would not happend at your watch. If it did, you were ready to sacrifice a lot for her. This really made her loosen some more up, but she wasn't completly ready to talk to you as she did back in Ponyville. You looked at the meal before remembering that this had also been made the usual for the day. You turned your head around and noticed the manager. He gave you a wink and smiled as he had hoped for something more than just the food to be accurate from the first visit. He made some gestures that you should invite her to dance. You took the hint as you turned to her.
"Would you like to dance with me?" You got up and sat down next to her. The table you were given was excellent for just this and she looked at you with shy eyes.
"I am not so good at it," she answered. You knew she would say that. You and her had danced a few times together. Sometimes it had been alone, and sometimes it had been at some of the local parties, hosted by the local party-gang. By 'party-gang' you referred to Pinkie Pie who did a job of 20 stallions when it came to putting up a party.
"Well, we could sit here and discuss but we both know you're coming with me," you jokingly said. She looked at you for a while before accepting your request and joined you out on the dance floor. The manager of this fine resturant was ready to sing and when he saw you step on the dancing floor he looked at you with a smile. He began to sing quietly while pointing at the two of you in some sort of a dedication. He increased the volume before continuing with the song.
She had worn the dress which was handed to her by Rarity to be used at the Grand Galloping Gala. The pattern on her dress made it beautiful to watch her as you and her swept over the floor. It really made you remember the night on the mountain and you looked at her with a smile. She knew exactly what you were dreaming about as she returned the smile with a kiss. It didn't matter if the song would end, it didn't matter of you would get tired. You could die in her arms right now and be happy, forever.
