Chapters Chapter 1: A Mysterious Colt
"Send reinforcements to the Princesses chambers and all the lower levels, i want this castle sealed off ASAP." he turned to one of the other Lunar guards, "What are we dealing with here Lieutenant?"
The lieutenant turned to him, "We aren't sure sir, he just came out of nowhere, we don't know who he is, and we vaguely know his motive." He sighed with distress, "all we know is he is headed for Princess Luna's chambers."
Now he seemed concerned, nobody hurt his princess , "Then why hasn't he been stopped yet!?" the commander yelled.
The lieutenant was panicking, "We are trying our hardest sir, he has some form of magic that we've never seen before, he isn't even a unicorn he's a pegasus."
The commander was baffled, "If he"s a pegesus then how the hay is he using magic?"
"We think.......we think its his black sword, it might be enchanted. it also gives him the ability to teleport short distances from shadow to shadow. we just aren't prepared for an enemy like this." he stammered.
The commander looked shocked, "have all the Lunar guards secure a perimeter around the night princesses chambers at once. Ill guard her room personally." He grabbed his sword and left.

It was about a half-hour before the sun goddess would lower the sun to make way for the night, that would give him just enough time to catch the night princess when she was waking up, perfect , he thought. He shifted his wings and trotted up to the castle gate. He outstretched his hoof and whispered, "Moon bright as day, blade black as night, and ethernal vapors, materialize and aid me now." A one sided, pitch black blade with a crescent moon guard and ethernal vapor wisping from the middle of it appeared in his hoof.
the guards where alerted by this and they surrounded him, "HALT, who dares draw a weapon against the castle?" one said.
He smirked, "Oh, nopony special." he turned his blade around, next thing the guards knew they where on the ground writhing in pain. He just entered the front door when he was surrounded by three more guards, he looked at the ground and smirked. Something was casting a shadow on him,and he vanished.

The guards stood there dumbfounded, where the enemy just stood there was nothing, just POOF and he was gone, pegasus couldn't use magic so how? one of them noticed a peace of paper on the ground, he walked over and picked it up. He unfolded it and read it. He dropped it and started to run off.
I'm coming for Luna
"Lieutenant where are you going?" one of them shouted.
"To alert the commanded, this is urgent!" he ran off.

From shadow to shadow, he took down guard after guard. how many now, thirty, forty? , they just kept coming, but he just kept on going. After what seemed like forever, he finally was neared the princesses chamber door.He slowed down and rounded the corner and was face to face with a Lunar Stallion, they where like lunar guards except more......dedicated, they've been augmented cross between dragon and pony, they have smoke grey fur and the strength, eyes, teeth, and wings of a dragon.
The commander looked the intruder up and down, "I'm impressed you've lasted this long, but no more. this ends now."
He looked him the commander dead in the eye and started laughing, "Let me guess, your here to protect the princess from the ghastly things i could potentially do to her, so i have to go through you to get to her." he chuckled.
"That is correct." he said.
He gave the commander a happy grin that could rival Pinkie Pie's, "Then lets begin." He readied his sword.
His face remained stoic, "You shall not harm the princess." He drew his sword.
I don't plan to , he thought. Their swords met.

Inside Luna's room
Luna woke up from a very good rest, when she climbed out of bed she noticed something was amiss, the air had a certain 'ripple' to it that didn't feel right. She looked around confused, where is my morning tea? , she thought. where her tea should have been was a scroll that was marked urgent. She levitated it up and unrolled it.
An intruder has breached the castle
and they have claimed to be coming
for you, for your protection please stay
in your chambers till further notice.

"Nopony has mad an attempt at a princess in 1063 years, and even then they only went for Tia, so why now?" She made her way over to her doors and put her ear to it and listened. She could hear swords clashing just beyond the door. whoever they are they have made it here . She donned her regalia and ignited her ethernal mane. Suddenly the door broke open and Commander Fury flew through it hitting the back wall unconscious, Buck Norris would have been proud of that kick. The stranger stepped in and he dispelled the sword into a bracelet on his leg. Now she finally got a good look at him, he was a well built stallion with a dark purple coat and a short cropped mane and tail, he had vibrant lime green eyes and well preened feathers and his cutie mark was his sword.
She glared at him ready to attack if necessary, she said, "An assassination atte...." she was cut off.
"HAHAHA, Princess, I'm not here to kill you." he laughed
She took a step back, "Thou hast slayed our guards and thou claims to not come to murder us?" she puzzled.
He chuckled, "Do you not feel there presence still around?"
He was right, not a single one was dead, just unconscious, " Who art thou and why art thou here then?" she questioned.
He gave a deep bow and said, "My name is Midnight Sword," he paused, "and Luna, would you like to go out with me?"
"......what?"
Chapter 2: Thoughts and Dreams
"What?" Luna exclaimed.
Midnight stood up and looked at her, "I asked if you would like to date me."
She couldn't comprehend what he was saying, one does not simply ask a princess if they wanted date, it was unheard of. "Art thou sure thou hast not come to kill us?" she asked.
"Nope, wait yes? Which ever one means i wont hurt you." he stumbled
"Thou must Pinkie the Promise."
He executed the series of motions, "Cross my heart, hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye." he said proudly.
She lightened up a little after that but she couldn't wrap her head around it. She took a couple of steps forward and asked, "Then why, prey tell, did you go through all this just to ask me?"
He chuckled, "I got your attention right."
"And how did you know that we wouldn't just leave out our window to escape before thou arrived?"
"Your an alicorn, you have the stubbornness of an earth pony, the speed of a pegasus, and the magic of a unicorn, you wouldn't run if it was a dragon instead of me that came through your door." he stated.
She looked at him shocked, this pony was smarter than he looked, "But why us?" she asked.
He took a couple of steps back into a really thick shadow and said, "You have been you yourself, but you have been in my life more than you know. Its rude to make you decide right now so i will come back in a week at the end of the night, you might want to let your guards know." and with that he vanished.
She reached a hoof out to him, "WAIT!!!!" but he was already gone.

Midnight appeared at the base of Canterlot mountain on the opposite side the city was on. He walked over to the base where there where many fallen rocks. He grabbed a small rock that was on the ground and twisted it, a door sized rock that was propped up by the mountain slid to the side revealing an opening. He walked in and the 'door' closed behind him, when it shut completely the 'cave' lit up revealing that is was actually a house the size of a small manor. He walked into the main room and sat on his big comfy couch.
"So, how did it go?" a disembodied voice said behind him.
He looked over at a rich blue sapphire with two crossed diamond rings floating around it sitting on a pedestal. "how'd what go?" he smirked.
The gem glowed when it talked, "you know damn well what im talking about."
"Alright, alright, it could have gone better, but got my point across to her. How are you doing today Master Mustache?"
The gem yelled at him, " I told you i had a beard! And how do you think im doing, im a GEM!!! Now get over here and lift me up, im done recharging."
"Sorry Master Beard." Laughing, he got up and walked over to him. He picked him up and tossed him up. The gem caught the air and started floating around.
"Go and get some rest young Midnight, you've had a long day and i have more training for you tomorrow. Now if you'll excuse me i have some preparations to to make." He floated off into another room.
Midnight sighed and started walking to his room, he opened his door and walked in. The room itself wasn't very big other than the fact that it had an extremely high ceiling with exposed rafters. He flew up to the rafters where he had his make shift bed, since he was a pegasus he liked high places, they made him feel safe and secure. He laid down and thought of the day he had, he had finally gotten the attention of the princess he liked so much, his thoughts started to wander as he drifted off to sleep.

Luna was pacing around her room for hours, she cancelled tonights Night Court due to the earlier events.When this Midnight pony broke in she was expecting an attack not a confession. She tried weighing her options, while he was considered a criminal for assaulting the castle and breaking into a princesses chambers he was also kinda handsome too, knock it off Luna he is a criminal, but those eyes.... . She shook her head and sighed, "Perhaps we should ask Tia on this matter in the morning." She sat down and picked up a book to try and clear her thoughts.

Midnight was back at his families cottage on the outskirts of Equestria. "But Mama, I don't want to go to bed yet, im not even sle-YAWN-epy." His mom tucked him in bed and got him all comfy.
His mom smiled at him, "Midnight Star , you are a young colt and you need your rest." She gave him a kiss on the forehead and blew out a candle. "Goodnight Midnight."
"Goodnight Mama." He yawned.
She walked out of the room and he fell asleep.

It was a couple of hours later when his mom rushed into the room and woke him up. "Midnight, Midnight wake up, come on wake up."
He stirred from his sleep and looked at her, "What is it Mama?" he hopped out of his bed.
She grabbed him and hugged him, she cried softly, "Midnight listen to me ok." she picked him up and placed him on the large window sill.
"Mama whats wrong????"
She was really crying now, "Listen sweety, you need to get away from here, its not safe here. Sweety mama loves you, mama loves you so much." She kissed him on the forehead one last time and nudged him out the window.
Young Midnight glided to the ground and ran to the forest a couple of yards away and hid there. He saw a shadowed figure fly out of and away from the house. He started to take a few steps towards the house when the house exploded in fire. "MAMA!!!!"

"MAMA!!" He shot upright gasping, crying, and sweating. he looked around and laid back down. He looked over to a burnt picture and frame of his mom. "mama" he whispered, and he drifted back to sleep.
Chapter 3: His past, Her decision
Luna walked out of the royal dining hall with her sister, "but Tia, he did assault the castle and take down all my guards, not to mention he he broke into my room, so why?"
Celestia gave her sister a warm smile, "Luna, nopony has ever been so determined to try and start a relationship with us before, even my admirers haven done anything on this scale." she giggled, "that goes for my old lover as well, he accidentally teleported me into his work room, *sigh* if only he was still here." she stopped walking and and put her hoof on her sisters shoulder. "Luna, you have been alone for a thousand years, you could use somepony special in your life, that's why you should give this guy a chance."
Luna thought on this for a couple of days when she finally decided that she would hear what he has to say, then she would decide. She called over one of her guards and he gave a deep bow, "Go and inform Commander Fury to remove all wanted signs for Midnight Sword and that in two days time he will arrive here again. Make sure that all the guards let him through and that he should meet me in the throne room."
The guard gave another bow, "Yes your majesty." and whit that he ran off.

~2 days later~
Midnight was making his final preparations to head back to Canterlot. He opened the 'door' and took off towards the city. During his flight he encountered alot of pegisi guards eyeing him from a distance, he was happy they weren't attempting to arrest him. He landed just outside the castles gate when one of the guards finally confronted him.
"I'm Lieutenant Hills, the princess has requested that I escort you to the throne room." he gestured him to follow.
They slowly made their way through the courtyard and main hallway when Midnight decided to break the unsettling silence. "So.......I, uh........sorry for...uh...beating the hay out of you guys last week, i uh, needed to make a big firs impression." he said as he scratched his mane.
The lieutenant looked at him as he walked, "Most of us don't really like you because of that stunt, especially the commander, he took it very personally. If I were you I'd try to avoid him." the lieutenant warned him.
"So, Hills, i can call you that right? What about you, what do you think of me?" he asked.
He smiled, "I don't like to hold grudges Mr. Sword, in fact i kinda respect you in a way. First you manage to take all of us out alone without killing a single pony, then you beat the hay out of Fury, and i especially like that part, nothing is better than hearing that your superior officer got his flank kicked, and you do all this just just to ask out the princess, i gotta hoof it to you, that takes alot of guts and i like that. Sure you hit me on the head a couple of times but i like you Mr. Sword you don't seem like a bad guy. Now if you'll excuse me i have some business to attend to, the throne room is just around the corner." he said as he left.
Midnight was happy that he just might have made a friend. He rounded the corner and, aw hay , he thought. Standing in front of the door and only a few inches from his self was the same lunar stallion that guarded Luna's door a week ago. He attempted to go around the guard but he stepped in his way again.
"You have some guts to show your face here again." he growled.
Midnight gave a mischievous grin, "you must be Commander Fury, i hear you don't particularly like me, is it because i through you through a door after I beat you silly?" he teased him.
"You dare insult me after humiliating me!? I don't care what my orders are I wont let you see the princess." he yelled.
"Really? We have to go through this again?" he complained.
Fury started to draw his sword, "you are scum and I shall be rid of yo-" he was cut off by the throne room door opening behind him.
"Commander Fury stand down at once!" Luna demanded.
He turned to look at the princess, "With all due respect princess, thi-" he was cut off again.
"COMMANDER FURY STAND DOWN AT ONCE AND AWAIT THOU'S PUNISHMENT IN THE BARRACKS!!!" Luna shouted using the RCV.
His ears splayed back, "yes princess" he mumbled and walked off.
She turned to Midnight, "We art terribly sorry for our guards actions just then, we had hoped he would have better control of his self." she apologized.
He shook his head, "Not at all Luna."
Her expression lightened, "Tis good to know, now please do follow us into our throne room."
They walked into the room and Luna spoke first. "Midnight Sword, why dost thou refer to us without any of our titles?" she questioned.
"Because I don't see a goddess or a princess, i see a lonely mare who looks like she could use a friend. And please, you don't have to speak to me as if addressing a subject." he answered.
"Very well, I'll speak speak with you normally." she seemed to blush a little at what he said. They walked into the middle of the throne room and she summoned a table with two chairs. "Come and sit Midnight Sword we have alot to discuss." she said as she sat.
"Please, just Midnight is fine." while he sat down.
"Ok then Midnight, before i say yes or no, I want to know why you want to know why, both me and my sister have admirers but why go through so much lengths just to ask me out?" she questioned.
"Alright, I'll start at the beginning. My last name wasn't always 'Sword, i used to be Midnight Star." he paused, "When i was a young colt I lived with my mother on the outskirts of Equestria. My father passed away when I was just a new born so I never knew him, but other than that it was a happy life." his expression saddened, "but that all ended one night. My mom came into my room a couple of hours after i was asleep, she rushed into my room panicked and crying. She picked me up and nudged me out of the window....the last thing she ever said to me was 'Mama loves you'." he paused.
Luna looked at him shocked and concerned, "What exactly happened?" she asked hesitantly.
He took a couple of moments to ready himself. "I ran into the forest and waited there. Being young i didn't listen to her completely when she told me to run. i saw a shadow leave the house in flight." he paused before he told the traumatic moment. "Then the house exploded with fire........ I laid there for days screaming and crying for my mother, on the third day it rained and put out what was left of the house. It was night and there was still an overcast when i finally picked myself up, as i walked around the house i found a gryphon feather on the ground, I knew it belong to whoever burnt down our house and killed my mom, but i never found them. Anyway seeing the feather made me cry again." he paused for a breath, "but that's when a small portion of the clouds opened up and a bright ray of moonlight shone on a portion of the fallen house. I walked over to where the light was shining and began to move all the rubble aside, underneath was a burnt picture and frame of all of us, me and my mom and dad. I had herd the tales of 'The Mare on The Moon' and i that was the only thing i thought it could possibly be, i looked at the moon and whispered 'thank you '." he said sadly.
Luna looked at him with great sorrow, that was when I was imprisoned on the moon, Nightmare Moon didn't care for nopony, so why did she do it? , she thought. "How did you survive?"
He gave a little grin, "that's just it, I didn't." Luna gave him a questioning look. "The days of no eating, drinking and the lack of sleep had finally taken its toll on me. I wandered through the forest when i finally collapsed and died, but thats when my teacher first met me." he lifted up his hoof and showed her his bracelet. " This was originally created by Nightmare Moon for evil purposes, luckily he was able to recover it long ago, i don't know if you remember but it has the ability to allow the wearer to teleport among shadows, summon a blade dark as night, and resurrect them from death only once. The trade off of is that it binds itself to the wearer and cannot be removed." he put his hoof back down.
"Anyway, my teacher found me and put it on my hoof and teleported us back to our current residence at the.......uh, sorry he doesn't want anypony to know where he is yet. So the years passed and I changed my last name to 'Sword', every night I would look up at the night sky and stare at the moon for hours on end, one night i noticed that the 'mare' shape on the moon had disappeared and that's when my teacher told me that that was Princess Luna returning from her thousand year imprisonment on the moon. an soon as I was able I bought a Grand Galloping Gala ticket in hopes to finally meet you, but you never showed up and the Gala ended. Later i herd rumor that you would be going to Ponyville for Nightmare Night, it was that night that i saw you for the first time. Never had i seen such magnificence and beauty." Luna blushed again. "I knew I had adored you for a long time but when I saw you, i had fallen for you instantly. Yes I know that 'love at first sight' sounds cheesy but its true."
She recalled that night but couldn't remember ever seeing him. "How come you never showed yourself or confronted me?" she asked.
"My teacher let me go on the condition that I only observe, no interaction with anypony." he stood up and walked over to one of the great glass windows, "So, now that you've heard m story Luna, would you like to go out with me?" he said still staring out the window.
His story had deeply touched her, he had gone through just as much pain and suffering as she had. She got up and hesitantly walked over to him. He turned around and she looked at him for a good thre minutes, she walked coser to him and gave him a hug.
"Yes, I would be glad to." she said.
