Heart Wood dreams of making her own way in Equestria. That begins with a move to Ponyville and taking a job as a logger with a crew specializing in exotic woods.

Her plans derail when she encounters a strange flower, and its deadly pollen. Diagnosed with the dreaded swamp fever, the wide world ahead of her shrinks to a hospital bed in an isolation room. She can only watch as she slowly changes from a pony to the very thing she used to cut down.

Why, though, does that strange mare named Tree Hugger keep trying to tell her about the trees from which the flowers came?

And why does she hear something calling her back to the forest?
