5 years in the future and Equestria is unrecognizable. Mega-corporations, chief among them the Tiara Corporation, dominate the nation, the princesses have been exiled in favor of a republic and the secession of the Pegasii have left the skies darkened. In the new city of Tiarajuana the earth pony Applejack drinks herself to sleep, blaming herself for falling for Tiara's gambit. Meanwhile her old friends Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy work to prevent the Wonderbolts finding the Crystal Lance, a legendary artifact said to make its user invincible and a mysterious figure arrives in old Ponyville donning the mantle of a local folk tale to fight crime and write the wrongs of the past.
