Entry 1 – Monday 5/14
I’m not sure if I’m doing this right. This was all kind of sudden. One moment I show up at the Conversion Bureau and the next I was greeted by a purple unicorn. What was her name? Oh yeah, Twilight Sparkle. Anyway, she said how she wanted to “research the experience of a human going through the ponification process.” She then hands (is hands a right word, she has hooves and she kind of levitated this to me with her magic) me this journal and tells me to write down as much of my thoughts as I want. Then when the time comes, when I become a pony, I am to give back this journal. She seemed like a nice pony, and I didn’t want to disappoint her so I agreed.
So I guess I’ll start this journal with a little about me and how I got to deciding to eventually become a pony. My mane is Meredith Matthews. I’m 21 and a student at High Point University. I’m kind of average looking, nothing really striking. I guess you can say I’m your average Plain Jane. My best physical quality are me eyes. I love my green eyes! I hope that when I become a pony I get to keep those.
I remember a few months ago how it happened when I chose to become a pony. The university was all abuzz about the news that this place called Equestria had appeared and ponies began to appear. Many of my regular classes were put on hold as ponies came to our university to explain about their world. They then began to offer what was called Conversion, the transformation of a person into a pony. It seemed like science fiction or a horror movie. Yet slowly my fellow classmates and even some professors started becoming ponies.
I had in that month been talking to my best friend from college, Julie. She seemed really excited about the fact that ponies were now on Earth and she was considering the possibility of becoming one. I must admit that I was hesitant. I had a life as a human. Sure it was far from perfect, but I was unsure that becoming a pony was a chance at a better life. I was afraid the hype of conversion being the answer to all of humanity’s problems was too good to be true.
One day I was greeted at my dorm by a blue unicorn pony. I didn’t know who she was or what she wanted. It was then she told me that she was Julie. I couldn’t believe it! My friend actually went and was converted! I was a little upset that she did this, and we didn’t speak to each other for a while. I think I was more upset at the fact that she didn’t tell me than her actually becoming a pony. Thankfully we were able to reconcile our differences. Great friends always find a way to forgive. She told me about the wonderful time she was having as a pony and she begged me to become one. I think the fact that she begged me with that cute pony face won me over.
So about a week ago I took my first step by visiting the Conversion Bureau today. I scheduled what the operator called a “Conversion Date.” This is when I am to actually go to become a pony. She scheduled me for a week from now. Funny how this sounds like in a week I’m going on a vacation or to an event. But instead I’m going to be a pony. So this will be like a countdown to my rebirth into something new.
I had so many questions to ask. Was the transformation going to hurt? Would I see the transformation? What would I expect after I became a pony? Would I be able to choose my pony type or color? What must I do to prepare to become a pony?
Thankfully they gave me a pamphlet about what to expect, but I still have to read it. Anyway, it was a long day and I’m getting tired, so I will read the pamphlet later.

Entry 2 – 05/16
Today I took some time to read the pamphlet with my friend Julie. She was more than happy to help me understand anything in it as of course she already went through the process. It was fairly straightforward: I scheduled an appointment and then when the time comes I go to the Bureau that day to become a pony. The brochure did explain the process as well; about they would give me a sedative and then give me a serum which would transform me. I asked Julie what exactly the serum was, and she shrugged and simply said “magic.”
I must say the pamphlet helped answer all my questions.
Would the transformation be painful? No.
Would I see the transformation: No because I will be under.
Would I be able to choose my race/ color? No, because due to the magical nature of the serum, there is no telling that. I’m not really picky on what I look like, although I prefer to be a unicorn as I’d like to learn magic and be the same type as my best friend.
What must I do to prepare?
This was the interesting part. The pamphlet mentioned that I had to give up everything I had. Julie mentioned that most human things like cars, computers, weren’t pony friendly. Also she heard that since newly converted ponies were given new placed to live complete with furnishings, there would really be no need for my furniture. But I think, and Julie agrees, the main reason is that ponies want to make sure that the transfer from human to pony is total. That means no attachment to your past life, including things. Well it’s not like I have lots of things. I’m a poor college student after all!
I have so much the do I realize. I need to get rid of what stuff I have, ask Julie to help me know the ins and outs of being a pony, and get ready for that day. It’s going to be very busy, but I will try to complete these entries.

Entry 4 – Thursday 5/17
Funny thing I just found out while continuing to clean out the dorm room. Julie’s name isn’t Julie anymore! Her new pony name is Azure. I felt so embarrassed that I was calling her by her human name when for a month she had a pony name! She said that it was ok because I didn’t know. This made me think: what should my name? It has to be pony sounding and of course it has to represent me. I guess I have a few days to think about it though before Conversion Day.
There’s so much I have to learn about being a pony. Julie, I mean Azure, said it’s like learning to do everything over. Walking, writing, eating, all of it has to be relearned. Add to this the fact that if I become a Pegasus I’m going to need to learn how to fly and if I’m a unicorn magic. Thankfully Azure mentioned that there are classes provided to teach new ponies how to do these things. Oh well, I like learning new things.
Sorry about the short journal entry these days. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll have a better one!

Entry 6 – Sunday 5/20
Wow! What a fun party I had today! Today, Azure told me that I’d be meeting some of her other friends. Everything else was kept secret. We then went to a pavilion in the nearby park where I saw a huge party going on. There were at least twenty other ponies there and all of them knew Azure. She was always popular as a human, so I wasn’t surprised that this carried through to her as a pony.
I asked her what this was, and she told me that this was my pre-Conversion party. She always had a knack for naming parties. I at first was worried that the others wouldn’t be inviting to me since I was a human, but they welcomed me openly and invited me in.
It was a really interesting mix of earth ponies, Pegasus ponies, and unicorn ponies. Some of them were born a pony while most of them were human and became ponies. They gave me such great advice about what it was like preparing for Conversion, the actual process, and what happened after. They said that like me they were concerned about what to expect, and some of them didn’t have friends who went through the Conversion process. I couldn’t imagine not having someone like Azure to help me. I would certainly recommend having a recently converted pony pair up with a human about to go through Conversion to help them prepare and be a comfort to.
The party was great with music, games and the food. Although I wasn’t into some things served like hay, the baked goods were great! But most importantly, Azure through this party showed me that ponies were very similar to humans. Sure they look different, but the way they act and think and their personalities are the same. She also showed that I was going to be able to make friends very easily as a pony.
So now this was my last full day as a human. Tomorrow I’ll be going to the Conversion Bureau where I’ll enter as a human and come out as a pony. I go with no regrets and friends to support me.

Entry 7 – 5/21
This will be my last entry for this journal. I am now sitting in the waiting room of the Conversion Bureau waiting my turn to have the procedure. I’m a little nervous but mostly excited about the new life ahead of me.
Azure gave me a big hug before I and her leaving on the bus for the bureau. I know that whatever type of pony I may be or what I look like, she’ll be there. I’m confident I’ll be the same person, just in a different body.
So in closing this journal I must say that this was an interesting experience. It helped me to realize how much goes into a making a life changing decision and how good friends can help you through anything.

Entry 3 – Wednesday 5/16
I spent today getting rid of some things. Mainly it was the nonessential stuff like clothes I didn’t wear often and music. I never knew that I had so much stuff even in a small dorm room until I actually started going through with it. Thank goodness Julie was there to help me! She told me she that she just learned to do telekinesis, and although she couldn’t move the big or heavy things yet, she helped put the little stuff into boxes to give away. It was nice she was helping me and at the same time I was helping her practice her magic.
It’s a strange feeling how with each item being boxed away it’s a reminder that little by little I’m losing my humanity. People are defined by many things: how they look, how they think, their likes and dislikes, and what things they have. All of this will soon be changed as I change into something new. I wonder when I become a pony, will I still hold some attachment to human things, or will they seem foreign to me?
Take, for example, clothes. I know that ponies typically don’t wear them except special occasions according to Julie. Humans of course do. So after Conversion, when I see a sock or something, will I know it’s a sock or will it become something foreign to me? Julie still knows what human things are as a pony, so maybe most things in my mind won’t change.

Entry 5 – Saturday 5/19
It’s strange as it being the last weekend as a human. Even though I’ve been planning it, there’s a part of me that is still having trouble fathoming the fact that in a few short days, everything I knew will be changed. My whole life will be new, as if there never was a Meredith Matthews on this planet. I wonder if people will remember me when I was a human, or will that cease to be just as this human self.
I guess it’s bittersweet, leaving one life to become something else. Sure I know I have Azure to help me, but she’s only one pony. What if in becoming a pony I don’t like it? What if the other ponies don’t like me? There really isn’t a way to undo what I’m going to be doing.
Azure definitely sees that I’m going through a crazy time in my mind. this week. Then again, it’s not like I’m trying to hide it. She told me that her decision to become a pony wasn’t as easy as I first thought. She said that she spent over a month planning and considering all options about such an important choice. I told her that she could have come to me to help her, and she apologized for that as she assumed that I would talk her out of it. I guess that both of us need to still learn things about each other.
Azure told me that she had something planned for me on Sunday. She said it was something that I would really enjoy. I admit while I’m excited, I’m also nervous. Azure, when she was human, liked throwing crazy spontaneous parties. I wondered what she could do as a pony especially being a unicorn with magic.
I guess I’ll have to find out tomorrow!
