Rage Against the Machine (The Night Before)
Night had befallen Rainbow Dash's home. This was prime gaming time. Barely able to hide her excitement, she made her way down to the basement where her video games were. Her parents were away on vacation, so she could turn up the volume just short of disturbing the peace. Just the way she likes it.
She turned on the television, then the console.
Dashin8r has logged in.
She smiled with anticipation, and checked her friends list.
SunShimPwny is Offline. Rainbow sighed. That's right, she's at work right now. If someone had told Rainbow Dash that she and Sunset Shimmer would become close friends over a year ago, they'd be given a bloody nose for their trouble. Rainbow Dash despised Sunset Shimmer. She was a real fucking bitch to everyone at CHS. , Rainbow thought as she remembered the old Sunset. But ever since the Twilight from that other world came over and we zapped her with an awesome rainbow laser, Sunset's changed. For the best. Rainbow found herself feeling sympathy for Sunset when she struggled to prove herself reformed to the school. After the Battle of the Bands, Sunset and the girls became inseparable. Except for that Anon-A-Miss bullshit. We should have stood by Sunset the whole time. At least it's over.
Scrolling further down her friends list, Rainbow Dash found Applejack.
FarmGurlAJ is offline. Damn. She's probably already asleep for her early morning chores. She and I compete with each other all the time. Every day we try to one-up each other, but we also bring out the best in each other. I guess she's like my rival or something.
Rainbow scrolled down further.
Fashionista_4_life is offline. Ah well. Rarity hardly plays video games anyway. She spends more time making dresses and such. Not that I'm complaining, though. She makes some pretty cool stuff. I just don't like wearing dresses, is all.

Flutterbutter is offline. That's no big surprise. She doesn't play video games all that much either. Even when she does, she never wears her headset. She's always been a shy one, so that's no surprise either. Anyway, moving on...
P0nk4_P0 is offline. Huh. I thought Pinkie'd be on tonight. She's usually up as late as I am. She always brings fun wherever she goes. Her parties kick some serious ass! I don't suppose...
Twi_Sparky73 is offline. Of course not. Twi's been busy with a lot of things. Ever since I told her she could read anything she wanted during summer on the last day of school. She still hangs out with us, but she also still reads a lot.
I wonder if I could convince the Twilight from the other world to play a video game next time she comes here. I wonder what she'd think of Tirek's Revenge? I don't think they have video games there from what I was told.
Rainbow Dash checked her phone. She was unable to hear anything in the basement because of the volume.

Rainbow Dash cracked her knuckles and her neck. "It's go time!" she yelled as she turned the volume to the max.
After a near-deafeningly loud couple of hours, Rainbow got a text.

Rainbow blinked in surprise.

Rainbow Dash sighed and stretched. All right, now it's time to take on the rest of the world!
Rainbow Dash had signed in to a global lobby and looked at her competition.

Rainbow Dash had a gleam in her eyes. "Oh, so the Crusaders wanna play? Bring it!"
A while later, Rainbow Dash had fallen into dead last. Her once blue face was now as red as Apple Bloom's hair. "Are you fucking kidding me?! " She shouted at the top of her lungs. How in the goddamn fuck did I end up in last place?! Which one of you fucking assholes are cheating? I know one of you has to be cheating. I'm not having a fucking off night, you're just using hacks, you pieces of shit! Fuming, Rainbow ran outside and channeled her geode. Running at near-top speed, she ran circles around her home. "FUUUUUUUUUUUCK!" she yelled, unwittingly creating what would be an urban legend for years to come. The urban legend about a shrieking demon that circled houses, cursing the heavens for its undeserved fate.
When she finished, Rainbow Dash returned to the basement and took a deep breath. "God, I needed that." She took a drink of water, then went up to her room.
Grabbing her guitar, she started to play one of her three secret tunes. Tunes that she might someday share with her closest friends, but nobody else. Not even her parents. These tunes were secret because they affected Rainbow Dash in different ways. Playing her tune, Rainbow Dash concentrated on the chords. She felt the sadness and lamentation of the tune she played and slowly descended into weeping until all she could do was desperately clutch her guitar as she cried all the tears she had. I may not be into sappy stuff, she thought, but even I know that everyone needs a good cry every now and then. She grabbed a tissue and blew her nose. She looked at the time. "Huh. Guess I better go to bed." she stretched and yawned, putting on her pajamas. She laid in bed and turned her bedroom light off.

Rainbow Dash found herself in an office cubicle. "Oh, shit. Now even my dreams are starting to get boring!" She sighed. "Might as well make the best of it." She spun around in her chair. "Wheeee." she said in a deadpan tone, clearly not amused. Maybe if I bang my head on this desk hard enough, I'll either be transported to a better dream, or I'll wake up with a headache. Rainbow paused for a moment, weighing the options and consequences. She shrugged. "Worth the risk." She leaned back as far as her chair would let her without landing flat on her back, counted to three, then thrust her head forward with all of her might.
Rainbow Dash's phone went off, abruptly waking her from her slumber. "Fuck!" she shouted as she was startled awake, nearly leaping out of bed and falling on her bedroom floor. I really need to lower the volume on my phone before I go to bed. Half-awake, she answered her phone. "Hello?"
"Hello. This is a pre-recorded message about your car insuran-" Rainbow hung up. "Fucking robo-calls. How would they like it if I called them ? Hmph." Rainbow Dash checked her phone. "It's still this early?" She sighed. "Well, at least I can take a nap later." She went downstairs to the basement and turned on the television. Suddenly, she realized the mistake she made, only a split-second too late. Before she could cover her ears, the television was fully started.
"-have been receiving reports about suspicious charact- "
"Son of a bitch!" Rainbow said as she turned down the volume. "Argh! This is ridiculous!" Frustrated, Rainbow Dash went back upstairs to her room. She sighed, and played a tune on her guitar to calm herself down. "Ahhh. Much better." she said as she finished playing her tune. "Time for a nap!" she settled back into bed.
About an hour later, her phone buzzed. "Dammit, it better not be another fucking robo-call!" she said, feeling her frustration rise again.
All right, girls. Listen up! Sunset Shimmer is super-ultra-mega sick! She told me she needs our company to help her feel better! - Sent by Pinkie Pie
Goodness! I know she had a busy day at work, but I didn't think she'd be that worn down. - Sent by Fluttershy

"Well, fuck napping then." she said as she texted details between her friends, setting a schedule for who would visit Sunset and when.
After everything was set, Rainbow Dash sighed. Okay, so I'm second-to-last. How did that happen? "Now I've got nothing to do for hours...I knew I should've signed up for that jump-rope competition! What am I supposed to now?" Suddenly, Rainbow Dash had an idea.

"Dammit, Pinkie!" shouted Rainbow. "I'm gonna climb the fucking walls at this rate!" she said as she slapped her hand against her forehead. "Okay, Rainbow. Think. What can you do to kill time that you haven't done before?" she thought aloud. "I've already read every Daring Do book made so far and memorized them cover to cover..." she snapped her finger. "Of course!" she ran upstairs and played one of her secret tunes to kill some time. Finished, she took a shower and changed into her day clothes. I should have done that sooner , she thought.
Rainbow's phone buzzed.
I'm afraid she's feeling worse, dears. She had a dizzy spell and is burning up, but she's getting the rest she needs. - Sent by Rarity
Rainbow sighed. Maybe I should get sick, It'd make the day go faster.

At least for now I can offer moral support. Rainbow thought. "But I'm still slowly going crazy ! I can't just fly off, I don't want to overpower our geodes...You know what? Screw it." Rainbow Dash went back downstairs and turned on the TV.
"Suspects appear to be wearing-"
She then switched to her console and decided to play a local tournament.

"Oooh, this is gonna be good ! The CMC and the Shadowbolts!" Rainbow rubbed her hands in gleeful anticipation. "Bring it on!"

"Holy shit, that was incredible! Sour Sweet and Indigo Zap were nearly an even match until the end!" Before the next round had started, Rainbow checked her phone. Nope. Nothing yet. "All right, squirt. Bring it on!"

"Man, I didn't know Sunny Flare and Lemon Zest were so hardcore! Let alone Twilight's boyfriend. I wish she'd just admit that's what he is to her, already." Rainbow Dash checked her phone.

Rainbow Dash put on her headset. Everybody who was eliminated was in spectator mode, but still able to speak. "Geez, Lemon Zest. I can't believe you got your ass handed to you that bad by Sunny Flare."
"Rainbow Dash...that's not Sunny Flare's game handle." said Lemon Zest, a tone of shock, awe, and fear in her voice.
"What?" said Rainbow Dash. "But if she's not Sunny Flare, then who-"
"Oh, Rainbow Dash." said an immediately familiar voice.
Rainbow Dash gulped and felt a chill down her spine.
"CPA doesn't stand for Crystal Prep Academy...It stands for Celestia Pwns All!"

"P-p-p-p-p-principal Celestia ?!" Rainbow Dash stammered. Oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck! was all Rainbow could think. I know I wanted this day to stop being boring, but this?! This is a whole new level of what the goddamn fuck!
"What's the matter, Rainbow Dash? Adults can be gamers too, you know." said Principal Celestia.
"I-i-i-i-i-i know. I'm just shocked, that's all." said Rainbow, still trying to process things.
"I just enjoy the element of surprise. It's too bad that it only works once." said Principal Celestia.
"Well you totally surprised the fu-heck outta me!" said Rainbow Dash, recovering from a potential expletive in front her school's principal.
Principal Celestia laughed. "Well why don't we skip the pleasantries and get down to business?"
Rainbow Dash took a deep breath and exhaled. "Let's."
Well, I lasted a minute shorter than I thought, and I thought I'd last a minute! Thought Rainbow. I'll never look at Principal Celestia the same way ever again!

I'm just glad that killed some time , thought Rainbow Dash. Maybe getting some exercise in will keep me sane.
Rainbow Dash left her house, did some stretches and went on a run. It really is an awesome day out. I can't stay inside forever! She took a breath of fresh air as she started pacing. Every now and then, Rainbow Dash would have headphones on, but for a change she decided to let nature be her soundtrack for jogging. The birds chirping, the cicadas buzzing, people in cars playing their music with the windows down...Ahhh, summer. Rainbow Dash smiled. I love working up a good sweat.
Taking a rest on a bench, Rainbow Dash checked her phone.
Just finished installing the guard rails on Sunset's stairs. She's sleeping now. - Sent by Applejack

She checked in with us while you were working, so she must be feeling a little better. - Sent by Rainbow Dash
She resumed jogging until she returned home. She almost opened the door, but stopped short. "No. It's too nice out. Fuck it." Rainbow Dash channeled her geode and ponied up. "To the sky!" she said as she ascended to about one hundred feet. I should be fine in the sky. I even sang that it's never boring up here! She circled the neighborhood a couple of times until her phone buzzed. As she took her phone out of her pocket, she lost her grip. "Oh, shit!" She said as phone fell to the ground. Descending quickly, she caught her phone long before it landed. She breathed a sigh of relief. "Better safe than sorry." she said as she landed on the ground and reverted to normal.
Still no changes so far. She's taking a rest right now. - Sent by Fluttershy

So what now? I can't fly because I'm worried I'll drop my phone and lose it. I've already met my jogging quota. I came in second in a video game to Principal Celestia of all people! And all my friends are busy doing other things! Rainbow Dash grunted in frustration. Maybe I could work on a tan or something. Rainbow Dash went inside and changed into her swimsuit and brought out sunscreen, taking a beach chair from the garage. After she applied sunscreen, she laid down on the beach chair, hands behind her head. "Aww yeah, that's the good shit right there." Feeling completely relaxed, she drifted off into sleep.
Rainbow Dash found herself in a business meeting wearing formal attire. "Oh, for fuck's sake !" she blurted out. Everyone at the table gave her looks of severe disapproval. Blushing, all Rainbow Dash could say was "Sorry." She could feel her mind and her sanity slip away as the presenter droned on and on about business and other shit she could care less about. She then leaned back as far as she could, and thrust her forehead straight onto the table.
Rainbow Dash woke up with a headache. She shrugged. "Worth it." She then checked her phone for texts.

She changed back into her regular clothes, then left her house with a couple of video games in her hands and set off for Sunset's.

This chapter takes place right after Rainbow leaves Sunset's in the chapter Twilight and Sunset in Sunset Shimmer's Sick Day, and during the chapter The Home Stretch in Pinkie Pie's Chaotic Saturday.
Boredom Makes People Do Crazy Things
Well, that was a thing that just happened. I still can't believe Sunset tried to take her clothes off in front of me! Rainbow Dash smiled. At least she's still a worthy opponent when she's sick. I'd hate to hold back on her because I felt sorry for her. "Okay...so now what do I do?" Rainbow thought aloud. The was starting to set off in the distance, and she was almost sure she heard a party or two in the background. I wonder if I can crash one or both of those parties...Nah. As much as I'd want to, I'd rather not risk getting into trouble.
She took out her phone. "No messages. I wonder how Twilight's doing with Sunset. I know she's the last of us to see her, but I wouldn't mind hearing from Twilight." Rainbow sighed and pulled her eyelids. "Argh, why is so hard to come up with something to do ?!" Suddenly, an idea formed in her head. An idea so epic..."So! AWESOME!" she grinned as widely as humanly possible, and set about her task.
Rainbow arrived at her destination, and knocked on the door. Still grinning, she could barely hold in her excitement. The door opened, revealing Principal Celestia. "Hi, Principal Celestia. I have a...proposition for you."
Celestia quirked an eyebrow. "Go on..."
"And that's what I have in mind." Finished Rainbow Dash, still grinning. "There's just one catch, though."
"And that is?" asked Celestia.
"Fluttershy would have to be last, and I'd have to blow your cover." said Rainbow.
"Oh? And why is that?"
Rainbow's grin slowly disappeared and she blushed. "Well...due to a prank of mine backfiring...my friends and I made solemn vow not to prank her. You know how sensitive she can be."
Principal Celestia stroked her chin. "You have a point, there. When would this take place?"
Rainbow smiled. "How about...next Saturday?"
Principal Celestia grinned. "Rainbow Dash, you have yourself a deal." she extended her hand.
"Sweet!" said Rainbow, and shook Principal Celestia's hand.
Oh man, I can't believe she agreed to do that! I was so sure she'd shoot my idea down! Rainbow was giddy. "Now all I have to do is play the waiting game. Speaking of which..." Rainbow looked at her phone. Still no messages? Hmm. Maybe I should check on them. Or maybe I'm just overthinking it, they can take care of themselves.
Still lost in her thoughts, Rainbow bumped into someone. "Oof!" she said as she hit the ground.
"Whoa. You okay there?" said the stranger as he extended a hand.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just zoned out, that's all." Rainbow said as she accepted the stranger's hand.
"Name's Golden Crossbow, but you can just call me Golden. Apparently people bump into me a lot." he smiled and extended his hand again.
"Rainbow Dash." she said as she shook his hand. "You new here?"
Golden smiled. "Yup. Moved in recently to live closer to family. Actually got a tour of the suburbs earlier today."
"Let me guess. Pinkie Pie?" Rainbow said as she smiled while rolling her eyes.
"How'd you know?" asked Golden.
"She's like the unofficial tour guide here. She does that with all the newcomers."
"So you know how I know her. What about you?" asked Golden.
"Oh, we go back to at least Freshman year in high school. We've been through a lot together." said Rainbow.
"So tell me. Is Pinkie Pie always that...eccentric?" asked Golden.
Rainbow laughed. "That's putting it lightly, but yes. It's just Pinkie Pie being Pinkie Pie. There's one thing you should know about her, though."
"And what is that?"
"No matter what Pinkie Pie says or does, just keep this in mind: don't question it. Seriously . You'll drive yourself crazy trying to figure her out."
Golden thought for a moment, then nodded. "Yeah, that makes sense. I guess." he shrugged. "Well, I should get going. See you later, Rainbow Dash!" he waved.
Rainbow Dash waved back. "You too, Golden!" Okay, now what do I do? Where do I go from here? she sighed. "BORED. AS. FUCK. You know what? Screw it, I'm crashing a party." She ran towards the coolest-looking party, which was a night rave.
Scanning the crowd, she saw Pinkie, who shouted "DJ PON-3, show me some WUB!"
Oh crap, I can't let Pinkie see me! How do I blend in if my natural hair color is seven fucking colors?! thought Rainbow Dash, racking her brain in a panic.
"Hiya, Dashie!" said Pinkie, who almost immediately noticed Rainbow Dash. "Man, you really stand out in any crowd, don't you?"
Rainbow flinched. "Shit!" Still racking her brain, all she could come up with was "Who ees dees 'Dashie' you speak of?" trying her best to imitate an accent.
Pinkie laughed. "Don't worry, Rainbow Dash. I'll pretend I didn't see you here, so you won't show up in my story!"
Rainbow Dash blinked, then ran to Pinkie and hugged her. "Thanks, Pinkie! I owe ya one!" she said, then grabbed a few light sticks and danced like a madwoman to her heart's content.
Once she returned home, Rainbow Dash was exhausted. "Best. Fucking. Party. Ever! " she said as flopped onto her bed. Wait, what am I thinking? I'm a sweaty mess! She went into the bathroom and took a shower. Now that's how you cap off any day. A kickass party, then a shower. Gotta love the simple things. She smiled as she exited the shower and toweled off. She put her pajamas on, got into bed then stared up at her ceiling. Hopefully tomorrow will more packed with action. Something in back of her mind told her not to tempt fate, but she simply shrugged it off. Eh, whatever happens, happens. I can take it. She yawned and slowly went to sleep.
Rainbow Dash opened her eyes to a battlefield of people brawling each other. A no-holds-barred-everyone-for-themselves-fistfight between what looked to be hundreds, if not thousands of people. Rainbow's eyes lit up. "Oh, fuck yeah! Now my dreams are speaking my language! Ponying up, she ran full speed into the battle, screaming a warrior's battle cry.

The Dream Battle and The Day After
Running full speed into the battle, Rainbow shouted "Incoming, motherfuckers! " laughing heartily. She found her first target and unleashed a rapid barrage of punches to her victim's face and torso. Then, she followed up with a roundhouse kick. Aww, man. That felt like sex ! Suddenly, she took a right hook to her jaw and landed on the ground. That's what I get for letting my guard down. She spat out a tooth. "Is that all you got? C'mon, this is a dream! Put some oomph into it!" She ran into her opponent, elbowing her chest and letting out all the air in her lungs as she saw someone suplex another person in the background.
High-energy techno music started playing. Rainbow Dash took to the sky to avoid getting hit again, and to see where the music was coming from. Off in the distance, she saw DJ PON-3 laying down beats so sick that Rainbow was sure if she got any closer she'd be infected with dance moves! Satisfied with where she was, she simply nodded. "Wub on, DJ. Wub on." Rainbow then ascended higher and higher until she reached a certain altitude. She stretched, took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly. Cracking her knuckles, she dove to the ground with all of her speed and might. Roaring with her adrenaline pumping, she slammed her fist into the ground, making a giant crater and causing a rainbow-colored shock wave spread throughout the battlefield. The noise of her landing reverberated for almost a minute. Still caught up in the moment and filled with adrenaline, Rainbow dash could not stop herself from yelling "Are you not entertained ?! "
Realizing what she just said, Rainbow slapped her forehead with the palm of her hand. "I can't believe I just said that!" She sighed. "Oh well. Now what?" she said as she flew out of the crater she created. She looked around the landscape. The battlefield was now empty, save for six strange cloaked figures. Rainbow blinked. "Uhhhh...hi?" she said, slightly unsure what to make of her situation. Suddenly, Rainbow woke up.
Her buzzing phone was the culprit. Rainbow sighed. "Well at least it didn't wake me up during the best parts." She checked her phone.

Rainbow changed from her pajamas to her daily clothes. She checked her phone again.

"Ooh, that's gonna be sweet!" said Rainbow Dash, eager to hang out with her friends after the day she had yesterday. Maybe I'll arrive early just to check how things are going at the store... Rainbow Dash channeled her geode and sped her way to the mall.
As she made her way into the mall, she almost ran into two people. "Yow!" She skidded to a halt, almost falling face-first into the mall floor. "Torch Song! Toe Tapper! How's it going?"
Torch Song and Toe Tapper looked at Rainbow, then each other, then blushed a little.
Rainbow gave them both a look of confusion until she noticed they were holding hands. "No way, you two hooked up? That's awesome!" She noticed the embarrassed looks on their faces. "But don't worry, I won't tell anyone. I'll leave that to you two. Congrats, by the way!"
"Thank you, Rainbow. We're doing just fine." said Torch Song, smiling.
"Yeah, everything's great. Thanks for asking." said Toe Tapper.
"Sweet. Well, don't let me get in the way of your date!" said Rainbow. See ya guys!" she said, then headed towards the sports store she works at.
"Bye!" said the new couple, almost in unison. They looked at each other and laughed together.
I wonder if me and all my friends will hook up with someone. Aside from Twilight. She seems to be happy with Timber Spruce. Wonder how far they'll go? Maybe we'll all have kids, attend their birthdays, and- Rainbow cut herself off. Bleh. Now I'm getting all sappy. I hate when I do that. Rainbow rolled her eyes to herself as she reached the sporting goods store.
Rainbow Dash walked in. "Ace Point! Tennis Match!"
Most of the patrons there gave Rainbow a confused look until two of her co-workers walked up.
"Rainbow!" said Ace. "What brings you here?"
"Just killing time before my friends get here. How's work been today?" asked Rainbow.
"Eh. I could take it or leave it." said Tennis Match.
"Yeah, it's been kinda boring here." said Ace.
"Believe me, I know what that feels like." said Rainbow as she recalled the boredom that threatened to consume her yesterday. "Anything new with you guys?"
Both Tennis Match and Ace Point shook their heads.
Rainbow sighed. "Oh well. I was just checking in anyway." she checked her phone. "Gotta go. See ya!" she said, then sped off to their favorite table where she found Pinkie Pie and Rarity talking.
After Rainbow and her friends went their separate ways, Rainbow found herself thinking. Okay, that was a lot to take in. A quest in Equestria? Alternate versions of ourselves? I mean, I know that's a thing since Princess Twilight and this world's Twilight met up after the Friendship Games, but this is still kinda fucked up. Rainbow Dash reached her house, but stopped short. I really should have thought that plan through with Principal Celestia. I don't know what I would have done if none of us were able to do that planned weekend thing. I'm just glad it worked out in the end. "Anyway...moving on!" she said as she entered her house, then shut the door.
