Disposable heroes
There I was, standing in front of seven multi-colored equines of some sort. They seemed to have different features too, Two had wings, one had a horn, two had a combination of both and the last two had nothing special at all. Except the mark on their hind legs, which they all had but they were all different. Stars, Apples, balloons, butterflies, gems, a cloud shooting rainbow thunder and a crescent moon. At this point I didn't know how they got here or what they were but from that moment on my life changed forever, I still don’t know if it was a good change or not but all I do know is that I could never go back.
This is how it happened, war. War in their homeland. A war that they lost.

“FALL BACK TO THE CASTLE! WE MUST PROTECT THE PRINCESSES! FALL BACK!!” The colonel bellowed over the sound of gunfire, magic, screams, shouts and explosions.
It was currently 1 o’clock in the afternoon yet the sun still hasn't risen into the sky, only blackness. Not surprising if you take into account the fact that Canterlot was under attack from the whole changeling swarm lead by queen Chrysalis. The fight has been going on since when dawn should’ve arrived but no civilians where hurt because the city was prepared for a fight. They were evacuated before the changelings attacked, they actually waited for the civilians to evacuate before assaulting the city in search for the princesses. Since then there has been nothing but bloodshed in the streets, red pony blood and yellow changeling blood, painting the roads, the walls and the soldiers themselves.
“FALL BACK!! IT’S A SLAUGHTER OUT HERE! FALL BACK!!!!” he bellowed once again before taking a spear through his chest.
As the soldiers slowly made their way towards the castle so did the changelings, Chrysalis getting more and more exited. The only reason she ordered the attack was for revenge on the princesses for ruining all her plans and destroying her hive. Her home, the home of her subjects.
After another half an hour of fighting, Chrysalis decided to help lead the attack head on, for she was giving orders from the back. She must not fight first for she needs the final glory of slaying the princesses with her own hooves.
Once she was in the vision of the guards personally protecting the elements of harmony the mane six were informed faster than you could say “Cupcakes”
“Your highness, she has arrived” announced one of the guards to Twilight
“Thank you” she said gracefully. “Girls, get ready and wait for my signal.” She and the other mane six walked onto a balcony watching over the fight.
“We should be in there kicking changeling plot.” Rainbow exclaimed, holding back the urge to fly into battle
“You know we can’t do that, Sugercube, we need to stay protected, and wait for the right moment to use the Elements of Harmony” Applejack responded as-a-matter-of-factually.
“Cant we just stop this fighting and go home?” Fluttershy asked weakly
“No, we can’t.” said Pinkie Pie unlike herself, unhappy and with a straight mane that reminded the others of an asylum inmate.
“Pinkie, that isn't like you.” Twilight said worriedly.
“But you know its true, there has been to much blood spilled today. TO MUCH!” She shouted with teary eyes. “We can’t just walk away and forget all about it. Its not right!”
“As much as I’d hate to say it but she’s right, we can’t walk away from this, not now” Rarity agreed, almost shedding tears herself.
Moments passed before anypony said a word while they watched the raging fight continue below.
“It’s time!” Twilight muttered gravely as she watched the queen draw nearer and nearer. The others got into formation. “on my mark, three, two.…” but before she could say one a changeling saw the magic growing around the six ponies and kamikazes into them to disrupt the elements. And it did more than disrupt them, it broke them completely, stripping Equestria from its most important means of defense.
“NOOOOOO!!!” Twilight screamed after recovering from the blast. “NOOO! Noooo!! No no no no no no NO!!
“Come on, we need to fall back to the thrown room. We can’t stay here, there is nothing we can do now.” Applejack said full of shock as she dragged Twilight to the door.
They arrived in the thrown room to meet up with Celestia, Luna, Cadence and Shining armour. Not long after, the changelings arrived at the door trying to nock it down. It was shut with magic to buy them time.
“The portal room, now.” Celestia ordered.
“Why? Can’t we hold off here?” rainbow asked confused.
“DO NOT ARGUE! Get to the portal room, NOW.” She bellowed, scaring everypony.
As they made their way to the portal room they could hear the door to the thrown room smash open and the sound of buzzing filled the hallways.
“GO, I’ll hold them off!” Shining said while stopping suddenly to turn and face the way in witch they came, waiting for the changelings.
“You can’t, they’ll kill you,” Cadence shouted back at him.
“I’ll take my chances, just GO, or we all die.” he insisted making a magical wall between them.
“Thank you.” Twilight whispers while crying before running off to catch up with her friends.
As they reached the portal room they found it open ready. Luckily it was that time of the cycle moon. The last time it was used was when Twilight had to retrieve her crown from Sunset Shimmer. Flash Sentry was lying beside it dead as if there was already a fight in the room.
“What are we doing in here? Pinkie asks still crying.
Celestia looks at the portal and then back at the mane six.
“NO, you don’t expect me to leave you, right?” Twilight asks shaking.
“I’m sorry, but this is how its meant to be, its for your own good.” The sun goddess said starting to cry. And before any of the mane six could react they were covered with a golden aura.
“NO, YOU CAN’T DO THIS, NOOOO” they screamed as they were thrown through the portal
Silence fell across the room for it was only the three Alicorns left in next to the portal.
“Are you sure that was a good idea?” Luna asked her crying sister.
“Yes, it was for the best, we have already lost this war, so why waste there lives?” she whispered. Luna looked away letting Celestia and Cadence to look at each other and nod. Suddenly Luna was also surrounded by the same Golden aura.
“WHAT? NO, SISTER! WHAT IS THOU DOING?!?” she screamed in anger as she too drifted towards the portal.
“I’m sorry” Celestia whispered with her eyes full of tears as Luna was sent through. “I’m really sorry.” She then used her magic on the portal itself causing the frame to bend and snap, terminating the only way to the other world. “Now nothing can follow.” she said to Cadence before Chrysalis entered the room.

“Mister, you seem to have fainted. Mister, please wake up.” I heard a gentle voice say out of the darkness.
“Fuggoff..!” I manage to mumble. I had completely forgotten about the creatures in the room.
“I’m just trying to help,” I heard the gentle voice say again. “You were talking in your sleep and you’re covered in sweat.” this didn't surprise me at all.
“Fluttershy, are you sure you should be doing that? He could be dangerous.” came another voice, this however did surprise me.
I opened my eyes to find a yellow creature with pink hair in front of me, staring with excitement.
“He’s waking up, he’s waking up!!” said the pink one behind her with bubbly pink hair jumping up and down.
I opened my mouth to scream but nothing came out but a small, pathetic whimper.
“Not quite what I was expecting from a creature as big as that but he does seem to be in shock.” The white one with purple hair said to itself.
“Y-you can t-talk..” I stumble.
“Of coarse we can, why is that a surprise to you.” the Lavender coloured one said with confusion.
“They can talk… they can talk… they can talk… oh God… they can talk…” I whisper putting my head in my hands.
It was about to speak again but was interrupted by the one named, Fluttershy.
“Quick, the other one is waking up”
And with that I crawled as fast as I could over to the woman laying against the wall next to me.
“Sophie, are you OK? Can you hear me?” I asked tapping on her shoulder.
My answer came quick as she waved a hand at me. I sighed in relief trying to ignore the creatures behind me.
“What happened?” she asked, her eyes still closed.
“Long story short: you fainted, one of them talked, I fainted.” I said quickly trying to wake her up more.
She opened her eyes and saw the seven equine creature thingy’s behind me.
“I… ermmm… what?” Was the only thing that she could say.
But before anything could say another word, there was a knock on the door.
“Kirk, Sophie? Are you in there?” a voice called from the other side.
Instantly I rushed over to the door, opened it, stepped out and closed it again in one swift movement. I turned around to face two men.
“Kirk? What are you doing? Where’s my sister?” The first one asked with confusion.
“She’s in there” I say pointing to the door. “Now Percy, I have to warn you…”
“Warn me about what?”
“Ju-just don’t attack them… we don’t know if their dangerous yet, well, they don’t seem to be anyway…”
“Attack what? Kirk, what’s going on?” Percy asked with more demand.
“You’ll see, all that goes for you too Lance.”
The second man just simply nodded. I put my hand on the doorknob and prepare to open it.
“Now, do you promise not to do anything irrational.” I ask with a serious face.
“Yes, whatever, just open the damn door.” he demanded, almost pushing me out the way.
I hesitate, breathing heavily, then open the door. Both Lance and Percy stepped inside staring. Lance at the wall and Percy at the equines.
“Well.” was all Percy said.
“What? What do you mean by ‘Well’?” Lance asked, still staring at the wall.
“there are… one, two, three, four, five, six, seven… Seven weird alien equine looking things in the room.” Percy said, counting all the creatures.
All seven of them didn't like that fact that they were called ‘weird alien equine things’.
“Guys, I really don’t appreciate you pulling these sorts of jokes on me. Is this because I’m blind?” Lance asked un-amused.
“What?! No, we would never do such a thing, and you know it.” I say also un-amused at the fact that he even thought of us doing something so cruel.
“No, Lance, there are really seven creatures in the room. And Percy, why are you so calm about this?!” Sophie asked looking at her brother.
“Meh, I’ve seen worse.” her brother said, rolling his eyes.
“Ok, I’m concerned now” she said with a worried face.
“Can we talk yet? Or are you lot going to keep arguing?” the rainbow haired creature said, butting into the conversation.
“Rainbow, don’t be so rude, cant you see their panicking? Well two of them are.” the lavender one said hitting the other with a hoof looking thing.
After that all four of us went silent, remembering their presence in the room.
“Soooo.” Percy said slowly, braking the silence “what are you?
So as the creatures explained what they were and where they came from we found out that they are called ‘Ponies’ not strange weird alien equine thingies. We also learnt their names. The cyan coat Pegasus was called ‘Rainbowdash” or ‘Awesome Machine’ as she called herself, the lavender Alicorn was called ‘Twilight Sparkle’, the yellow Pegasus that woke me up was ‘Fluttershy’, the pink bouncy ’Earth pony’ was called ‘Pinkie Pie’ short for ‘Pinkamena Diane Pie’ the orange ’Earth pony’ with the hat was called ‘Applejack’ and the pure white Unicorn was called ‘Rarity’.
“What about you?” I say, pointing to the blue Alicorn that has remained silent the whole time.
“M-my name is Princess Luna, although the title ‘Princess’ is no longer needed.” She said with sorrow.
“So… why are you here?” I asked feeling pity for the tone of her voice. “I mean, there must be a reason.”
And with that the ponies explained about the war, the changelings and the mirror. While they were explaining it all, I found that I was starting to feel sorry for them rather than feel scared of them.
“so, your sister threw you into the portal and broke it so you couldn’t escape back home?” Percy asked, confused.
“No, she clearly said that her sister sent her into the this world to protect her from the ‘changelings’ and destroyed it so nothing could follow them.” Lance exclaimed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
An awkward silence fell upon us that I cringed at every second (I cant stand silence, absolutely hate it, I start to hear my blood rushing through my ear…. What? Its not my fault) so decided to try and brake it by clearing my throat a couple of times. Eventually Percy spoke.
“So what are you going to do now? Are you going to find your own place in this world or…”
“We don’t know, we wont survive a week out there on our own.” Twilight said looking at each of the other ponies.
“Well you’re always welcome here, I say” Percy said, opening his arms out to welcome them. Instantly I objected.
“Wow, wow, wow, slow down. Are you sure this is a good idea? I don’t trust them.”
“Kirk, You don’t trust anybody.” Sophie said, as-a-matter-of-factly.
“That’s not the point, the point is we just met them. For all we know they could be lying.”
“I know I liar when I hear one, Kirk, and I heard not lies being told.” Lance said, backing up Percy and Sophie.
“All three of you are so willing to accept them?” I ask, not believing the things I am hearing. They all nod in unison. “Fine, there’s no point in arguing, I’m going to lose anyway.” I turn to the ponies. “You can stay, on one condition.”
“And what may that be?” Luna asked with curiosity.
“You play by our rules. You what we say, when we say it and how we say it. Ok?” all seven of them nod. “It’s for your own protection.”
“One minute its lack of trust then its protection, make up your mind” Rainbowdash said with boredom.
“Look, just because I don’t trust you, doesn't mean I don’t want you to be safe.” I glared at her.
“Before we continue, tell us about yourselves, you know about us and if we are going to stay we might as well know about you.” Luna said, stepping forward.
“Fine. My name is Kirk Fisher.” I point to myself “This is Lance Archer, as you've probably guessed, he’s blind.” he smiles at the mention of his name. “This is Sophie Hunter, and Perseus Hunter, also known a Percy, they’re siblings.” Sophie rolled her eyes as if to say ‘Don’t remind me’.
“And what are your occupations?” Luna asked again.
“What do we do?” Percy said. “We’re a band. We’re called the Dead Equestrians.” this caused some heads to be turned on the pony side. “Yeah, we just put horseman in a thesaurus and the word ’Equestrian’ came up. Not a very big band, popularity wise, but we just play for fun really. Only had a few gigs.”
“What kind of music do you play? Rock? Jazz?” Rainbowdash asked with core curiosity.
“We mostly play Metal.” I say but then realized the looks of disgust on some of the ponies faces.
“So, you scream into microphones?” the cyan Pegasus said once again.
Instantly all four of us scowled at the ponies.
“Now look here Missy.” I growl through my teeth, kneeling down to face the rainbow maned pony. “I do not scream into a microphone, nor do I growl, gnarl or shriek. Do I make myself clear?” my face now inches away from hers.
Rainbowdash was about to object but then realized that both the Hunters were mouthing ’NO’ repeatedly and waving their hands in front of their necks to signal ‘stop’
“Ok, I just thought-” she was interrupted by me.
“You thought what? All metal is screaming? All metal is Death metal? Black metal? Well news flash, IT’S NOT!” I shout in her face, my sapphire blues eyes intimidating her.
“I’m sorry, I just- I’m sorry….” she trailed off, backing away with her ears flat.
All the ponies seemed to be scared of me after that and backed away. Fluttershy hiding behind the others, not daring to look at me.
“That’s it. I’m going to sleep” I muttered under my breath while moving to the door.
“But it’s the middle of the day.” Twilight pointed out, regaining her courage.
“EXACTLY!” I shout back at her as I close the door behind me.
All the ponies looked very confused at my sudden exit of the room. Sophie tried to explain that I was nocturnal as best as she could. Luna found this interesting to say the least and clung onto every word.
“Ah hope not all humans are as bad tempered as he is…” Applejack said worriedly.
“No, of course not. He just gets angry when others say things like all metal is screaming. One reason is that he has no way of releasing his anger. I’ll explain later.”
“What did he mean by ‘HE’ doesn't do those things…” Rarity Began.
“He’s the lead singer and the bassist.” Percy replied. “I’m the lead guitarist. Sophie is the Rhythm guitarist and Lance is the drummer.”
“Wait a second, so, if yer blind then how can ya play the drums?” applejack asked Lance with confusion.
“When you’re blind your whole life, you start to learn movement and sound a lot more than someone that can see.” he replied bluntly.
Silence fell upon them once again but this time wasn't broken by me.
“How about we show you to your rooms.”

The Memory Remains
Midnight.
My favorite time of night. Everything is asleep, except me. I can relax and stare at the moon. Nothing can bother me. Just me, the moon and my music.
“Kirk? Is that you?” came a voice from the darkness of the house.
Great… someone else is awake…
“Kirk? Are you there?” the voice called again.
“Yes, yes I’m here.” I call back, annoyed.
I turned to the doorway and saw a dark blue Alicorn standing there.
“Luna!” I say, sitting up “Sorry, I didn't know it was you!”
“It is quite alright, I was just wondering what you were doing out her.” she said, her voice assuring me.
“Me? I was just relaxing, staring at the moon, listening to music…” I trailed off. “Sit down, its better than standing.” I pointed to the deck chair next to me.
She came over and sat in the chair, so we stared at the moon for some time before any one of us spoke.
“So, tell me about yourself, Kirk, you didn't do a very good job at it last time.” she giggled slightly.
“Oh, umm, OK. Well, as you know, my name is Kirk Fisher, I’m the bassist and lead singer of our band-” I was cut off.
“No, about yourself, about who you are, not the obvious information.”
“Well, where do I start?”
“At the beginning, I would hope”
“No, no. That’s a bad place to start.” I said, waving my hands then scratched my stubble beard as I was thinking for a better place to start the story of my past. “How about the Orphanage. The place I met the hunters….”
“You were at an orphanage? What happened to your parents?” she asked with pity.
“Dead.” I said coldly. “Murdered.”
“I’m so sorry.” she whispered, putting a hoof to her mouth.
“Why? Its not your fault. Anyway… yes, I was at an orphanage.” I said, regaining my emotions. “I was a loner most of the time, bullies, life was just a shit hole. Pardon my French but you’ll have to get used to it if your going to live with us.” she giggled “I was going through hell but then I noticed Percy; at the time we knew each other but we weren't really friends. He was angry, very angry.”
“Why?” she asked at my sudden stop.
“The bullies were giving him hell, all they were doing were picking on him, pissing him off, just for fun really. After a while he just said ‘No more’. He got so pissed that he almost killed one of them, almost strangled the bastard to death. And that’s where I come in, if I hadn't of found him the idiot would be dead. I managed to get Percy off and restrain him but some of the damage had already been done. He never forgave himself for it too. After that he was sent to prison for attempted murder. Now lets just say, those bullies never picked on a single soul since.” I paused trying to think back. “After he was released; me, him and his sister, Sophie, became really good friends. We found out that we all liked the same music, we all played different instruments. So we formed a band, later on we met Lance and he joined, taking to spot of the drummer.”
“Did you ever hurt anypony like that before?” she asked
“Anypony? Oh, wait, anypony-pony-body-anybody. Never mind.” I said internally smacking myself in realization. “no, I would never hurt any living creature. I’m a pacifist, you see.”
“So, with Rainbow…”
“What? You though I was going to hurt her?! No! never.” I shook my head.
Silence fell upon us and was shortly broken by the moon Goddess.
“So, tell me. Why are you nocturnal? I mean, I am correct to assume that most humans are not, so why are you?” she asked with allot of curiosity.
“God damn it, I knew this was going to come up.” I sighed. “well… I prefer the night really. I feel safer under the moonlight than the sunlight. That sort of thing really…”
“There is something else, isn't there.”
“No, it’s nothing really.”
“Tell me.”
“It’s nothing.”
“Tell me!” this time she was more forceful.
“Why?” I sighed, giving in.
“You cant keep things like this locked up. It not healthy.”
“Fine, I was scared and it kind… ruining… my…sleep…pattern…” I said, turning into a whisper.
“How? What were you scared of?” she asked, tilting her head.
“The dream.” was all I said.
“What dream? I don’t understand” she asked, confused.
“The dream I have every time I sleep, every time I close my eyes. The dream about the death of my parents”
“Please explain, it will help.”
“Ever since my parents were murdered in front of me (well, I was from a locked closet and I saw the scene through the keyhole, but you know what I mean) I've been having the same recurring dream about it. Every time I sleep. Every single time. No matter how hard I try I can never get rid of it. Never. And with the dream is a constant voice in my head, always telling me that I’m guilty, that I’m the one to blame for their deaths. It started driving me insane, I couldn't take it. So the only option I could think of was taking my own life.” to this she gasped. “And I tried, multiple times.”
“So why are you still alive today?” she asked, worried.
“Some times I failed. Sometimes there was an invisible barrier, like something or someone was stopping me, that wasn't my conscious. And the rest of the time I couldn't bring myself to do it. Why? Because I know I have three friends to rely on if anything goes bad. Three friends that will always support me. Three friends that care for me, and that I care for.” I started to form tears at this point. “I got so scared of it that I started to stay awake for as long as possible. I once stayed awake for about a month, I have no idea how other than the fact that I was too scared. And it came with a price, I went insane. I lost all my sanity. The fucking asylum came looking because word got out about me.” I started to cry a bit harder. “After the rest of the gang managed to somehow get some tranquilizers, they won’t tell me how they got them, they eventually got me to go to sleep. I’m still not perfect today, the voice, the dream, it’s took its toll on me.” I started to cry even harder. “I just can’t take it any more. I can’t! I CAN’T!! I JUST WAN- I NEED IT TO STOP! EVERY TIME I CLOSE MY EYES IT’S THE SAME THING!! I can’t live like this… I need it to stop.” And with that I broke down, my head in my hands.
Luna put her hoof on my shoulder to comfort me. It didn't work, and she could tell so she quickly turned it into a hug. At this I was dumbstruck. Why would she hug me? But this did comfort me. Her warm fur, the feeling that something caring for me… After the hug had been released, I wiped away my tears and smiled at her.
“Thank you.”

Poor Twisted Me.
It’s been a year.
One fucking year since ponies arrived at our doorstep (or really, appeared in one of our recording rooms). Its been hell living with them, trying to make me smile, ‘fix’ our fashion sense, learn everything about us and our world, showing off, worrying about everything and trying to farm the forest surrounding our home. Then there is Luna, the only one I enjoy the company of. We’re like siblings really, always spending our time together, talking, listening to music (she has really learned to enjoy Metal. Maybe she already enjoyed it her home world… I don’t know.). She even helps me with my bass sometimes. Not entirely sure how but she is a magical Alicorn from another universe that used to raise and lower the moon everyday…
“Kirk! For the last time, WAKE UP!!”
“For the last time, LET ME DIE!!” I shout to the voice waking me up.
“How about… No? We already decided there will be no death in this household.” The voice said again.
“I don’t remember agreeing to that.” I reply.
“That is because you were asleep at the time.” It said again. “Now get up!” Smacking me with one of my pillows.
I finally open my eyes to see a dark blue mare using her magic on my pillow, preparing to use it again.
“Luna, even though I appreciate your company, I don’t appreciate you assaulting me with my own pillow.”
“Oh, shush you!” she shot at me in a playful way, throwing my pillow back on the bed. “Now get up! Everypony is waiting for us.”
“Why is everybody waiting for us?” I ask, sitting up in my bed.
“You’ll see!” she replied, getting annoyed with my refusal to get up. “Now come on, or I will get the pillow again!”
“OooooOOooo! I’m so scared!” I say sarcastically. “Don’t worry, I’m getting up!” I say again as she makes her horn glow with magic.
With that, I got out of my bed and changed into the first clothes I could find. Unfortunately, Luna was in the room the whole time (no matter what I did, she refused to leave just in case I decide to go back into my bed, did I mention that it is really comfy?).
“Now let’s go!” she moaned getting impatient. “I think they have been waiting enough!”
“Fine!” I shot back getting annoyed.

“AAAHHHH!!”
“AARHHH!”

“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!”
“WHY ARE YOU SCREAMING?! YOU SCARED ME!!”
“I don’t know, I kinda looked like fun!” The pink mare giggled.
“Fuck my life.” I mutter under my breath, trying to exit the room I just entered but stopped by a blue hoof with a wearing a sparkle ‘royal’ slipper.
The whole room was filled with mares giggling at the scene they had just witnessed, except Rarity of course.
“I really wish you would stop using such foul language.”
“It’s been a year, Rarity. I thought you would have gotten used to it by know.” Percy said, tacking a sip of the apple cider in his hands, courtesy of Applejack.
“I know but I’ve never really enjoyed those types of words” she moaned
“Tuff!” I said trying to stop the argument about the words I choose. “What is all this anyway?” I ask realizing the banners, bowl of punch, balloons and other crazy things. “Is it somebody’s birthday today?”
“Don’t be silly! It’s our ‘One year since we came to Earth’ party!” The pink mare shouted with joy.
“Wait, what? Its been a year today? As in, EXACTLY a year ago I found you in that recording room?” I asked surprised.
“Don’t forget, you fainted!” Rainbow said after finishing her mug of cider. Her fourth mug.
“Shut up!” I shot back at her, pointing.
Another round of giggles.
“So what do you want to do first? Drink some cider? Some punch? Play some games like twister? Pin the tail on the pony? Hide and seek? ‘Chinese’ whispers? Tag? Duck, duck, goose? Oo oo! How about the floor is lava?! Musical chairs? What about musical statues? Simon says? Thumb war? Oh wait, silly me, no thumbs!” Pinkie Pie said once again. It really shocked me because she managed to say all of that in less than a full second.
“I’m too tired for this shit…” I mumble to myself. “Pinkie, I’m thirty-six years old. I don’t think I want to be playing games like ‘Hide and Seek‘.”
“Why? Gonna ruin your reputation of being a bad-ass metal bassist?” Percy asked, mockingly.
“What reputation? We've sold a single album and played live a dozen times and not in the last year even…” Lance said calmly, backing me up.
“Well… ummm…” Percy stuttered, thinking of a good comeback. “Well.. At least… AH HA!! At least I didn't marry a potato!!” He shouted suddenly remembering something.
“Potato? Wha- what are you talking about?” I asked, confused. I think you've had one too many.” pointing to the cider he is holding.
“You don’t remember, do you?” Sophie came in to the conversation.
“I don’t remember a lot of things, I've been repressing memories since I can remember.” I replied. "Please don’t remind me about-” but before I could finish I was interrupted.
“You married a potato?” Luna asked giggling.
I saw the look that was plastered all over Percy’s face.
“Don’t say it. DON’T SA-”
“Basically, one time, he tried to commit suicide by taking an overdose of my medication. Fortunately it didn’t work and as you can see he is alive. The drugs did, however, mess with his brain and he went a bit koo-koo!” Percy said quickly, doing a circle motion with his finger next to his head. “He kinda fell in love with a potato, got married to it and then…” he paused for dramatic effect.
“…Then?!” Came a chorus of voices.
‘I’m fucked…’ I though to myself as I remembered what happened all those years ago.
“…He ate it. Raw. He ate his wife minutes after the marriage!” Percy finished.
This time it was a chorus of laughter filling the room. I hated every second.
“I did no such thing!” I shouted trying to defend myself.
“To be fair, you did. But it is something nobody should laugh at, you weren't in your right mind and I bet you feel ashamed for it.” Lance said protecting me. At this the room went silent. “And before you even think about it, Percy, it was not an official marriage.”
“But… I… but…” Percy began but was stopped by Lance as he raised his hand and his eyebrows in unison.
“But nothing!”
“But, he ate his wif- AARGH!!!” He screamed as the back of Lance’s hand came in contact with his face. “What was that for?!?”
“Karma…” I say coldly. “With a capital ‘K’! Oh and a sore hand now.”
“Lance, Stop it, he’s still my brother…” Sophie came in before something else happened.
“Don’t worry, I won’t hurt him anymore. Not unless he carries on. Kirk is our friend and we should respect him.”
“Sophie, you need to keep your boyfriend under control.” Percy spat as he rubbed his now red face.
“Excuse me?! Lance is not my boyfriend!” Sophie shot back, obviously offended.
“Sophie, we know he is.” I say, stepping in. “There’s no need to hide it anymore.”
“But… how did you know?” she asked, worried.
“Lets just say… you’re not the best at hiding it.” I reply, Percy nodding in agreement.
The bitch slap he received must have made him forget why he was hit in the first place, because he went from insulting me to agreeing with me.
“Fine, we have been going out…” She said, defeated. At this most of the ponies started to ‘AAAAWW’ at the same time. “How long have you known?”
“The whole time…”

The rest of the party was fairly fun. We drank some cider (Percy and Rainbowdash especially), had a laugh and played some music. We played some of our songs and covers from various bands including Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, Megadeth and System of a Down (I know, not the best party music but its better than music for little kids). Percy even gave everyone a fez to wear. I was not happy when he tried to put one on me, I almost burned it. Multiple times. They’re an abomination and must be destroyed! Eventually I decided to sit down next to Luna and we talked, talked for hours and I finally came up with the courage to ask her…
“Luna? I've been meaning to ask you something…”
“What is it?”
“I was… I was wondering if you… if you…” I hesitated.
“If I could what?”
“If you could… turn me… into… a… pony…”
“WHAT?!?!” this got the attention of everyone in the room. “Follow me, this is not the place…”
“Agreed.”
So we left the room with everybody’s eyes on us. (except Lances for obvious reasons)
“Where are they going?” Percy asked suspiciously.

“I am not sure if I heard you correctly, so you want me to…?”
“…Turn me into a Pony.”
“Never mind, I did hear you correctly.” She sighed, collecting her thoughts. “Why?”
“Curiosity, I guess…” I reply. “Don’t worry, I don’t want to be one forever. Just for the rest of the day or something.”
She sighed again but in relief this time. She wiped her forehead and just sat there thinking.
“But, why?” she asked again. “There must be a better reason than ‘Curiosity‘.”
“Not really, I just wan to know what its like to be a pony. You’ve been human, why not me be pony? If you been human…” I say point at her. I realize I’m not using proper English and decide to continue anyway. “Why not me be pony?” I point to myself.
“Are you sure?” she asked. “It could be dangerous.”
“How dangerous?” I asked secretly wishing for it to be VERY dangerous. You know, lethal kind of danger… shut up…
“Enough to replace your eye balls with your intestines…” she said hesitantly.
“…”
“Now don’t be alarmed, this is very, very unlikely to happen.” she assured me.
I sighed in relief and continued to persuade her. Eventually she gave in.
“Fine, just give me a moment to get ready, there isn’t any pure magic in this world as you know…” She hesitated. “Before I do, let me just inform you of one thing first. You will become your pony counterpart.”
“Counterpart? What do you mean?”
“Your counterpart is you.” she put a hoof on my chest. “But a pony. They have the same personality but a different body. This means you cannot chose your appearance and you don’t become a random pony with a random talent.”
“Okay… I think I get it…”
“Brace yourself…” she said, lowering her head ready to use some magic.
Her horn started to glow as it did when she assaulted me but instead of a pillow glowing with the same dark blue aura it was me. My body started to levitate above the ground her magic swirled around me. I could definitely feel it, the change. My toes and fingers shrinking, disappearing. My legs bending in the opposite direction. My jaw growing outwards. My ears moving up my head and growing in size. My bones changing shape and size. My insides moving position. Every hair on my body growing and multiplying (and without me feeling it, changing colour). After what seemed like minutes (but was probably only thirty seconds…) I touched the ground once again.
“Aaaaah. Aaaaaaaaah! Craaaamp!!” I scream.
I reach for my left leg and try to grab it with my hands but only manage to hit it with two hard hooves making the pain even worse. Within minutes it eased and I could finally relax. I looked over to Luna who seemed to be lying on the floor, panting. All that magic used must have drained her of her energy.
“Luna, are you okay?” I ask crawling over to her (what? I don’t know how to use hooves yet)
“Yes, yes. I am quite alright.” She said in-between pants.
She opened her eyes and found me staring at her. She stared back in disbelief of what she saw.
“No… no… how could I not have known?” she asked herself
“Known what?” I ask, confused. “What are you talking about?!”
“No… no… how did I not see the signs? I’m such a fool!” She shouted to herself as her horn sparked with electricity. “No no, NO! HOW DID I NOT KNOW?! HOW HAVE I BEEN SO BLIND?!” the sparking increased and she was soon shocking herself with it as some sort of self-punishment.
“Wow wow wow, Luna, what are you doing?” I grab her horn with my new front hooves and take in most of the energy being produced. “Luna, stop it. You are no fool! What’s going on? LUNA!”
She realizes that I was taking most of the shock and stopped immediately.
“Oh my goodness, Shadow! Are you alright!?” she screamed and hugged me tight.
“Shadow? Who’s Shadow? What’s going on?!” I ask again, gently pushing her out of the hug.
“Oh my, sorry, Kirk! It’s just…”
“It’s just what?”
“It’s just… You look exactly like somepony I used to know. Somepony I miss…” she finished.
“What do you mean? you knew my counterpart?” I asked adding one and one together.
“It seems as though I must have… Back before the war, I met a stallion. He was brave, handsome and alone… He came to Canterlot one time seeking for help-” I cut her off.
“Okay, first of all, what was this guys name?”
“Soul Shadow… but when I first met him, he said his name was ‘Tombstone’ to protect the city.”
“Why would lying about his name protect the city?”
“It was cursed by an evil king.”
“You mean the king you said about before? Oh, what was his name? Simba?
“Sombra.” she corrected me. “The very same.”
“Sooooo. Why was his name cursed in the first place?” I ask, confused.
“Well, Shadow is a child of the night” I tried to remember what they were but nothing came so I waved my hoof to signal ‘Go on…’ and she understood. “The children of the Night are a secret civilization that I created before the war between my sister and I, roughly a thousand years ago. Unfortunately the were all captured and imprisoned by Sombra and the Changelings. A rebellion grew within the prison and the inmates tried to escape, it didn't go well. Shadow was the only one to escape alive for the others were either killed or recaptured. Sombra realized his escape and cursed his name.”
“That explains the curse… continue…”
“when he was staying in Canterlot, he was very rude towards the other ponies. You cant blame him really… The elements always tried to make friends and he got really ‘pissed off’” She said with her best impersonation of me (Which wasn‘t very good, to be honest). She chuckled slightly and so did I. “We formed an army to attack the prison using almost every royal guard, both Lunar and Solar. And when we finally did attack it, everything went wrong.”
“What do you mean? what happened?”
“Death. All around us there was death, changelings, guards and prisoners alike. And then Sombra killed one of shadows closest friends, or more, one of his only friends. Her name was Emerald, a turquoise unicorn.” she hesitated. “After that, Shadow went insane, he completely lost his mind. All his life he was building up rage, anger and hatred. Once emerald hit the ground, it was all released. All of it. He grew a horn, his cutie mark changed, his eyes turned to evil. He became an Alicorn temporarily”
“I thought that was only for the royally worthy…”
“Apparently not… He galloped straight for the King, attacking him, butchering him, burning him. Eventually, Sombra was incinerated, literally, Shadow burned him to death and the remains until there was nothing but ash…”
I said nothing, apparently my counterpart incinerated another pony… he couldn’t be me…
“After he came back to us, he kneeled down next to Emeralds body and used his magic to try and revive her but he overcharged the spell from anger. He revived the guards, the children of the night, even the changelings. Unfortunately, nopony knows if Sombra was revived from his ashes. We decided to have a peace treaty with the changelings for none wanted more death to occur but that soon past when the war arrived, it was chrysalis’s idea for revenge against the princesses for ruining her chances of ruling, but that is another story…” she paused. “After that, he called down and lost his horn but he never forgave himself for what he did that day, never.”
“But how is he my counterpart?!” I asked, confused.
“He was the bassist and lead singer of a band named ‘Iron Hoof’. he was a pacifist. He even had the same dream. He was a dark grey Pegasus with pure black mane and tail with red stripes running down them and his cutie mark was a Silver guitar plectrum with the sign of peace engraved onto it. The plectrum itself was singed in one corner from the fire that burned it.”
I looked at myself and noticed that I had the exact same features as she was describing except the red stripes in my mane and tail.
“You just said he had red stripes down his mane, why don’t I? I asked in confusion.
“I believe the red was dyed in by Emerald, hoping it would get him noticed by a mare.” she giggled.
I sighed in defeat and stood up (Not sure how but I managed it). I looked at my new body once more and remembered another thing that wasn’t clear to me.
“What does the fire mean? On the Cutie Mark.” I asked.
“Anger.” she said simply, also standing up. “The fire represents the anger that filled his mind.”
“And you said that the mark changed when he became an Alicorn.”
“Yes, I did. It was not just the corner of the plectrum burning, the whole thing was engulfed in fire.”
“That actually makes sense. And what of the other members of this ‘Iron Hoof’?
“There was Emerald, as you know. She was the rhythm guitarist. Dark Bolt but everypony called him Thunder, the lead guitarist and the brother of Emerald. He was a light grey Pegasus with a strange obsession for fezzes... And finally, Tyson, the drummer, blind. He was not a pony, he was a Zebra.”
“Sophie, Percy and Lance…” I said, counting them off.
Silence fell as I processed what had just been said. There was another creature out there like me. I wasn’t alone this whole time. But there was one difference that I couldn’t ignore: he had killed another pony, whether they were evil or not, he still had their blood on his hooves. Before I could think any more, my thoughts were interrupted.
“Come on, lets teach you about your new body.”

The six ponies and the rest of the band were still in the living room having their party. At this point the must have forgotten that me and Luna were absent.
Percy and Rainbow were drunk off their asses from all the cider they were drinking (Percy wearing a fez with two cider bottles strapped to it with straws coming out if them and into his mouth). Lance and Sophie were cuddling with each other, sleeping and The rest of the ponies were just having fun.
I’ve finally gotten used to my new body and I decided to go back to the party and catch up with anything I missed. I knock on the door and entered but what I found was exactly what Luna had expected. All the ponies gasped recognising me as someone that they knew before. And then there was Percy…
“WHY GOD?!?! WHY HAVE YOU CURSED ME LIKE THIS?!” He screamed, kneeling on the floor suddenly. This woke up Sophie and Lance. “WAS SEVEN NOT ENOUGH!?! WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS PUNISHMENT!?! WHYYYYY?!!?”
“EXCUSE ME?!” came a chorus of feminine voices.

The Frayed Ends of Sanity
“…And that’s a wrap!” Percy exclaimed as we finished recording a new song. “Good job everybody!”
“Sophie, I would suggest you take a glass of water, singing isn’t easy when you lack proper experience and suddenly have a shit ton of lyrics in front of you.” I said, putting my bass on the stand.
“Excuse me!? What do you mean I lack experience?!” she glared at me with a death look. “I’ll have you know, I sing all the time!”
“Singing in the shower doesn’t count, Sophie. I learnt that the hard way…”
“How- how do you know I sing in the shower?” she asked blushing. Lance raised his head at this.
“My bedroom is right next to the shower you use, and this place doesn’t have the thickest walls…” I said patting the wall next to me.
After we finished that strange conversation, we then proceeded to repeat the song from the computer, over and over again just to notice any mistakes. Then I heard it:

At first I thought it was my mind playing tricks on me. Then it happened again.
[Kirkie!]
I looked around the other three and say nothing but them concentrating on the music so I ignored whatever it was that was calling me.
[Kirk! Hello! Kirkie! Helloooooo! Hallo! Helo! Bonjour! Salve! Ciao! Look I’m talking in different languages! Kirk! Don’t make me go all annoying or your ass! …Kirk, Kirk, Kirk, Kirk, Kirk, Kirk, Kirk, Kirk-]
“WHAT?!” I shouted angrily at the others. “WHAT DO YOU WANT!?
They just looked at me confused and shocked at my sudden outburst, except Lance, he just cocked his head at an angle.
“We didn’t say anything…” Percy said, slowly. “You feeling ok? You don’t look so good…”
“I’m fine-”
[You’re not fine-]
“-I just need some time alone-”
[-you have a voice in your head-]
“-to think about things-”
[-how can you be fine if you have a voice in your head?-]
“-I have a lot on my mind at the moment-”
[Are you even listening to me?-]
“-WOULD. YOU. SHUT. THE. FUCK. UP?!” I screamed at the top of my voice, staring upwards and breathing heavily.
“We didn’t even say anything.” Sophie said, angrily. “Look, I don’t know what’s got into you but there is no point shouting at us for it!”
“I’m not- I’m not shouting at you, it’s just… I just… I just need to be alone!

“What do you want?” I spat alaoud as I closed my bedroom door behind me.

“Like the ‘chit-chat’ we have about me being responsible for my parents death?” I ask mockingly.

[Weeelllll… its more than just ‘chit-chat’ to be honest, this time it’s a bit more serious] the voice said with a more mature tone than usual [You need to know the truth kirk! The truth you’ve denied for so long!]
“What truth?” I asked

[Lets just set the mood first and lead up to the main point of this chapter!]
“Chapter? What chapter?” I asked, confused.
[Oops, probably shouldn’t say anything like that. I’ll end up spoiling the story!]
“Story? What the fuck are you going on about?” I asked again even more confused.
What did it mean by story? I knew for certain that I was not just some words in a book (or on a computer screen for that matter, as a lot of modern stories are these days).
[Nothing, nothing! lets get started then, shall we? You and Luna, you might as well be siblings with the way you act around each other… her company is one of the only living creatures you actually enjoy (apart from your pet spider)… you spend more time with her than any other pony in this household… you stare at the moon and think of her… you can’t help but drop your jaw whenever you see her as a human… when you’re not having ‘The Dream’ you dream of her-]
“-I don’t remember any of this!” I interrupted.
[No, probably not. You’ve most likely repressed them. Oh, I remember something: what was that song you wanted to write? ‘Beauty of the Moon’ was it?]
“Cut to the fucking chase already!”
If a voice could smirk, my God, it would have the biggest one you would ever see.

[Kirk, I’m the voice in your head. I know everything about you, I know everything you know, I know everything you think, you feel, you taste, you smell, you touch, you see. I. Am. You!]
“No! No, you are not me! You may be a voice in my head but that doesn’t mean you’re me! If you were me, you would sound like me but you don’t. You sound like ‘him’. You sound just like the man who killed my parents 30 years ago, I recognise the voice from my dreams!”
[Seriously? I’m a voice in your head that has adopted that sound. Lets just get back to the original point, shall we? You’re in love with Luna.]
“I’m still not buying it…”
[How about some images of Luna that you accidentally thought up and then repressed almost instantly?]
Then image after image was forced into my mind. I understood why they were repressed because some of them needed to be censored. But with each image, a sharp pain in my brain.
“Ok- ah, ok ok ok! Ah! Stop! I get- ah, I get it! Ah! STOP!!” I begged.
[Now do you believe me? You can stop being in denial now! Ever since that night on the balcony, you’ve had feelings for her and they’ve grown!]

“GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!” I screamed at the top of my voice, almost pulling my hair out!

Before I could reply I heard my door creek open. Then a small voice was emitted from it.
“Uumm, Kirk? Are you ok? I heard you- EEEP!” It squeaked before the sound of hooves running away could be heard.
I opened my eyes to see my arm stretched out in front of me as if I had just thrown something. Then I saw it. My fathers balisong knife stuck in the wall next to my door. It was the last thing he gave me before he was murdered. I walked over to it and found a small chunk of pink hair stuck to the blade. I must have thrown the knife in anger when I heard the gentle voice talk.
“Fluttershy, no!” I whisper as I fall to my knees, holding some of the pink hair in my hands. “What have I done?”
Chapter 2
Blackened
“Aarghh, my head, what happened? Rainbow asked slowly.
“Ah don’t know.” replied Applejack rubbing her head.
Twilight awoke confused but not as much as the others. She looked down expecting to see hands again, prepared. But saw hooves instead, hooves, no. “Girls, what do I look like?” she asked worriedly.
“Like yourself, Twilight, why?” Fluttershy said.
“We’re not supposed to look like this, remember? We’re supposed to have hands at the end of our forelegs not hooves.” Twilight said panicking.
“Obviously the portal has failed to succeed on that part.” Rarity said calmly. “Calm down darling, we survived, together.”
The six ponies looked around and saw that they were in the middle of some forest.
“But we’re lost, together, with no telling where we are” Pinkie said with her mane still straight. “Where are we going to…” but before she could finish she was interrupted by a flash of swirling light. It faded within seconds leaving behind a very upset looking moon goddess.
“Princess Luna! Why are you here? What happened?” Twilight screamed as she galloped over to Luna.
“Ce-Celestia…she sent me th-through the damned po-portal…” she sobbed trying her best to hold back her tears. “She must ha-have destroyed it too, s-so nothing could fo-follow into this world.”
After a while of tears and confusion they all noticed that it was getting dark, without Luna’s control.
“I’ll scout out and search for shelter for the night.” Rainbow exclaimed and before anypony could object she flew off with a trail of rainbows in her wake. It took some time for her to come back to the others, “OK, so I found nothing but an old mansion up that way, but yeah, it was all I could find out here.”
“That should do for now.” Luna breathed finally calming dawn, but still very upset.
As they set off, they noticed that the forest was quiet, too quiet. Like all the wildlife was gone, maybe scared off, maybe killed or maybe driven away by a more superior species. It seemed like hours before they reached the mansion but it was only mere minutes after they set off.
“This is it.” Rainbow said as they reached the building. “this was all I could find, soooo, do we go in or stay out?”
“We go in.” the blue alicorn said with no emotions. “Its better than staying in the cold”
As they entered the huge house they noticed some boxes laying on the floor in some of the rooms and part if the building must have been still in construction. They found a room with a carpet that was big enough for all seven of then and decided to sleep there until morning.
“This ‘ll have to do Ah suppose. C’mon lets get some rest.”
“But I want to explore the alien house more.” pinkie whined, her mane slightly more inflated than before.. “Please, please, please, please, pleeeeeeaaaaaaaaase!!!!!!”
“No, Pinkie, it could be dangerous.” Twilight replied “ you just can’t go around in places that are unknown, for all we know there could be a dragon in here.”
And with that not another word was said before they decided to go to sleep, cuddling next to each other for protection.

“Kirk! Wake up, we’re here.” I hear a voice say “Damn it Kirk, you really need to stop sleeping in the day. Wake up!” the voice started to prod me in the arm after that last comment.
“Mmmm, five more minutes.” I mumble as I roll over in the car.
“Kirk, I know you’re nocturnal but we need your help moving these boxes, this is your house too!” it said, prodding me even harder.
“I’m up, I’m up” I mumble again waving a hand to stop the prodding. “Why cant we do this at night? When I’m actually awake!”
“Because, Kirk, we all sleep at night, we’re not nocturnal like you, well Percy is half and half but lets not go there.”
I open my eyes to the blinding light of the sun. I hate it. God damn ball of gas in the god damn sky. Besides it’s not my fault I’m nocturnal, it’s A) the suns for being so bright and hot, B) the moons for being so pretty and C) the dream that I see every time I close my eyes fault for making me not want to sleep every night.
“You’re covered in sweat again, same dream?” I looked over to see a woman in the drivers seat.
“What do you think?” I reply coldly, “Same dream every time I sleep, Sophie, Every time.”
“Anyway, my brother and Lance are already here moving more boxes in. I still don’t know how he does it.”
“Who does what?” I ask confused.
“Lance, you know…” she said pointing to her eyes.
“I find it’s best not to question it.” I sigh and open the door of the car. “just don’t say anything about it when he is in earshot, his earshot range that is, you know how he can get.”
I went to the boot of the car and picked up the first brown box I saw, it labelled ‘Percy’s work stuffz’ to which I rolled my eyes. As I entered the huge mansion we had just bought a few day prier I noticed that some of the boxes have been moved into different rooms. I forgot where Percy said his workshop was going to be so I decided to place it in the hallway, what? I’m lazy. I got another box that said ‘Amp equipment.’ “This should go in one of the recording rooms then.” I think to myself. But as I open the door to said room I find an unexpected surprise.
Equines.
Seven of them. I was sure of it, same general shape and build but something was different, the colours of their fur mainly. It looked like a zoo crossed with a skittles factory. I just stared at them. They stared at me. Who knows how much time passed but I was in so much shock. You cant blame me, if you saw seven multi-coloured aliens in you home how would you react? Eventually I decided to move further into the room, not to the aliens but to place the box down because it was getting really heavy in my arms. I looked over at the creatures again, still there, damn, so I walked out the room and stood in the doorframe.
“GUYS!!!!” I scream down the hallway
“What?” I hear another voice shout back at me.
I look back into the doorway, they were still there,
“Just wait a moment will you?” I ask them, not really sure why. I closed the door and turned back to the hallway “WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU PUT IN MY COFFEE BEFORE WE LEFT?!?!”
“Wait, WHAT?! Hold on ill be right there.” and before I knew it Sophie arrived with a very confused look.
“Please. Tell me I’m not the only one who can see them, I really don’t want to find out that I’v finally gone insane.”
“What are you talking about? Who’s ‘them‘?”
I hesitated then opened the door showing the insides.
“Take a look for yourself.”
She looked into the doorway and stared for about thirty seconds.
“Do you want the good or the bad news?” she asked finally looking at me.
“The bad news?”
“You’re not the only one that can see them.”
“Wait, what? How is that the bad news? Then what’s the good news?” I ask confused.
“You haven’t finally gone insane.” and with that she collapsed to the floor, out cold.
I stood there confused even more then looked into the room again to see the equine things having the same expression. Eventually the lavender one stepped forward and opened its mouth.
“Uughhhhh, hello?” it spoke in a feminine voice.
After that, I too fell to the floor out cold.
