Time is twenty minutes to three in the afternoon.
I have taken the liberty of acquiring one of those popular voice-recorders everypony else seems to be gushing over, thankfully the department had a few of the portable ones left. While I do prefer to write down my thoughts and findings, with the increasing demand for successful ventures like Project: Steelpony I find I have less and less time to write.
*shuffling of papers followed by a sigh*
In any case I believe this batch of test subjects which, for the first time, were specially selected actually might be the breakthrough we’ve been looking for; along with the new technique we’ve decided to try out along with the breakthrough in the isolation of key gene-types, hence the specially selected subjects, we predict that we will have greater control and a higher success rate than in previous experiments. I’ve got an inkling on how they found out that a technique with a four to one ratio of Flux to liquefied magic during the process will be a deciding factor in our success but then again I am not willing to ask them for the full details.

I have been perusing the records of the current test subjects and have given some consideration to their induction into another pet project of Trueblood’s other than Chimera.
Project: Mesmer, while the theory behind Mesmer is sound, when tested in reality it was an utter failure. The aim of Project: Mesmer was to develop a device that would, when deployed, cause the affected subjects to become highly reciprocative of external suggestion. In layman’s terms, total mind-control. The idea was to use it against the Zebra Caesar and tribal chiefs to force an end to the war.
The problem was that brain chemistry became the decisive factor in success or failure, no matter how much they tried to alter the device to affect different chemistry’s it only ended in failure. So they decided to use the screening process in the Equestrian routine health check-up’s to see how many ponies/zebra’s/etcetera would be affected…it was found that statistically, one in a thirty million would have their mind fully under control. That was deemed unacceptable of course. There was another statistic however, that was debated upon before being rejected: one in two million would have their mind under a weaker, partial form of control. It meant the mind could resist an order the subject wouldn’t want to do, much like hypnosis, for example: If I told a doting motherly mare to murder her foal she wouldn’t comply, but if I asked her to stab that neighbour she found annoying, she would.
After perusing the notes I now realise that maybe this partial control could be taken advantage of, in the past our successful hybrids were affected psychologically in a very bad way. For instance, Stonewing lost his mental faculties almost instantaneously because of the cockatrices’ overly-aggressive nature; his mind wasn’t ready to put up with it. Others who did retain a semblance of sanity succumbed to a variety of ailments over time ranging from nervous breakdowns to total apathy.
I think if we screened the new batch so I can look for any of the markers that would indicate a susceptibility to the Mesmer device then hypothetically we could ‘force’ their mind to fight against the foreign part of themself to maintain total control.

I spent much of this morning preparing my proposal on what I talked about last night. I also found out that in a few cases when trigger words were used on some of the more reciprocative subjects that seemed to give a good response. If we get the go ahead then I believe there is a greater chance, however unlikely that a subject will actually be viable for Mesmer, of having a successful hybrid that can see active use. I am almost at Trueblood’s office; I will speak of the results later.

Oh, I thought I should mention that while I said this current batch of subjects were specially selected, it was the first time Trueblood allowed us to pick a candidate out of a pool of thirty. I chose two-five-nine; his recent history is quite…different than most others.

In thirty minutes time we shall begin the process on the latest batch of volunteers for Project: Chimera. As most of you know we are trying out a new technique with these ‘volunteers’ and so I hope to Luna you have memorized your roles. I want not a single buck up, if we succeed here then with any luck the war will be over by Hearth’s Warming and it’ll all be thanks to us: The scientists.
*stomping of hooves*
Thank you. And now, please listen closely. Let us go over our roles since we have a small amount of time to spare as well as to let me know you understand everything properly, as you already know we are the ones ‘tending’ to Subject Two-five-nine, team one please raise your hooves.
Good, now tell me, what is it you will be doing?

Me and my colleague here are to monitor the subject and regulate the infusion of drugs and talisman power into his system.

Time is seventeen minutes past four in the afternoon.
The hybridisation was a success for Subject Two-five-nine. As I found out from the memo off Trueblood we regrettably lost three of the subjects, only time will tell if they are able to function as intended. In the meantime myself and the other head researchers will be compiling the preliminary reports on our individual subjects. I’ll record this brief run-down for use as a guide when I write it later on.

Subject Two-Five-Nine:
Aim – To create a hybrid of a Pony and a Hydra.
The prediction was that a capable Pony could dominate the mind of the highly aggressive Hydra and the resulting hybrid would gain the abilities the hydra possesses, for example: regeneration of limbs which we hope doesn’t result two legs growing from one, low-light vision, enhanced smell, hearing, etc.
What we hope to achieve mostly from a hydra/pony-hybrid is one that possesses a suitable regenerative effect that will create an almost indestructible soldier which will demoralize the enemy as well as allow use in high-risk operations.
From the aftermath of the procedure we have kept the Subject sedated, restrained and kept in his cell. We’ll be monitoring him around the clock to keep an eye out for any problems but so far I am able to describe the aesthetic changes that have taken place on the Subject. These are as follows:
The Subject’s coat has become a tough hide, muted orange/brown in colour like a typical hydra. It is curious to note that some of the original Pony coat has still poked through in places.
The Subject’s ears have become more pointed which suggests that maybe his hearing as also become more acute; I shall test this in the future. The mane however, has remained exactly how it was prior to the experiment.
The Subject’s tail has quite literally gone. In its place is what appears to be the same pointed tail not dissimilar to a Hydra’s and measures in length to about one metre long.
The whites of the eye have become lime green which we believe gives the same excellent low-light vision a hydra has. The pupils have also become vertical slits like the Hydra’s.
The subject’s hooves have what can only be described as fused with the clawed feet of a hydra. Originally myself and some of the other scientists thought that the claws are just there for show and couldn’t be used since they were coming out from the hooves, but when touching certain points around them claws they have provided a response, twitch in laymans terms. So as far as we can say they are functional and could provide a good use should Two-five-nine see use.
In conclusion I believe that some of our secondary hopes have been achieved such as what we believe is the same tough hide of a hydra’s but as it should be reiterated, we can obtain more accurate data on the changes when the subject wakes up and we can perform the many tests I have planned.

Two-five-nine woke up an hour ago and had to be subdued after breaking out of his restraints after what one of the aides said ‘was an attempt at communication’. Although, I think it can be said he has gained enhanced strength as a result of the process, it took a team of security ponies to restrain him and he threw one of them across the room with his claw-hooves. I’m about to head in there myself and confront him, I’ll be questioning him and if he complies without a problem then we can move onto testing. If not, then I use the trigger word and ‘convince’ him not to cause a problem. Regardless we are beginning testing today.

It is with regret that he has lost his ability to form coherent speech. This is what I think has caused his ‘outburst’, I couldn’t get through to him after he realised this since his yelling is all but drowning out my voice. Thankfully though, he can still understand Equestrian so we can try and work around it.
When he calms down I’ll go back in there and inform him of the tests he shall be taking today, I believe with what strength he has demonstrated already it should be useful in what I have planned already. I will also take a measure of his literate skills to see if the hybridisation has affected such processes.

It seems that Two-five-nine is beginning to struggle finally. We have had to add the weights from other machines to his own and he is only just struggling to lift the weight of what is equivalent to a fully loaded Equestrian Army supply truck. Bear in mind his physique is of a fit twenty-seven year old stallion in his prime, what he is doing now shouldn’t be possible for a Pony but it can be concluded that he has gained enhanced strength from the process.

Okay Two-five-nine what I want to test here is if you can put your enhanced strength to proper use. If you are to be a successful candidate in the Project then you’ll have to be able to take care of yourself in a demanding situation. So, I’m about to put you in such situation, please give it all your all. But be aware of the damage you could inflict. If you pass, I’ll give you a bottle of Sparkle-Cola RAD.

Time is sixteen minutes past three in the afternoon.
The tests today were a success. It took three six-pony beta security teams, of which only two came away with no broken bones and one two-pony alpha team to stop two-five-nine. It was quite amusing in the beginning due to the subject almost flailing about trying to land punches but as time went on I observed changes overcoming him, his hoof-punches changed to clawing and his kicks became leaps. At one point I saw that he was trying to tear out the throat of one pony. His facial expression was interesting in that it became one of….rage. As the fighting became more ferocious and I saw that he was going out of control I called in the alpha security team which dealt with the situation quite efficiently as expected.
Overall I am satisfied that Subject: Two-five-nine has gained the enhanced strength we hoped for. On the other hand I believe that he may be prone to extreme emotional responses in situations due to the hydra traits he now possesses. An effect such as this was to be expected so everything is still going ahead as planned.

I’m going to give two-five-nine his literary test now; it will be comprised of just copying out a few lines, spelling some words I call out as well as him doing some creative writing.
I do hope that he has retained these skills since it usually is a good indicator of whether or not the equine side of him is mostly dominant as well as his mental faculties being able to cope with the changes he is experiencing.

He is still literate thankfully, but to be on the safe side as it is still possible for him to lose such functions over time we will keep this test up about twice a week.
In conclusion before I finish off for the day, I shall say that personally everything looks hopeful as they are now and if all goes according to plan then in one month we’ll have our first successful hybrid and I’ve got a feeling we’re going to need something to tip the scales soon.
I caught the news during my lunch break and the 3rd Neighfield Regiment fighting in The Trough was completely wiped out attacking and hold a Zebra trench yesterday. That’s one thousand ponies dead in a single day.

Time is eight fifty-two in the morning.
The subject is currently having his morning meal. While normally insignificant we have today decided to try out Mcgloverson’s hypothesis that two-five-nine is an omnivore, to accomplish this we presented him with some fresh cow flesh. Needless to say he outright refused. So instead we gave him his normal gruel but added some chunks of the flesh to it. So far it seems he hasn’t realised.
If this continues and he has no adverse side-effects such as nausea, vomiting, headaches, etcetera like a normal equine then Mcgloverson will be proved correct.
However, today is also special in that we are devoting most of our time to see whether or not Subject Two-Five-Nine has gained other traits that some Chimera members such as myself have hypothesised about.
In about eight minutes time we shall take him to one of the labs to test what the majority of us believe of him to have a bullet-proof hide, this was theorised because in the many reports of hydra encounters excessive firepower has had to be employed to take one down. Bear in mind we are talking about a half pony half hydra here, so it probably isn’t as hardy as the real thing. But any sort of tougher hide is an advantage regardless.

The subject has been cooperative so far and is currently lying restrained, for safety, on the operating table.
The test that myself and the aides will perform is to see the thickness or strength if you will, of his hide. To do this we shall use a range of different sized needles to pierce him and measure how far it goes it penetrates using a machine. Now this may sound simple but I’m willing to bet a bottle of RAD, as I did to one of these aides, that a lot of the needles won’t pierce the subject at all.

We shall begin with a twenty one gauge hypodermic, the average needed to draw blood.

Three-point-five inches Doctor. While this isn’t conclusive proof that your hypothesis is correct, I suggest we actually test it in a live-fire situation. I estimate his hide has a seventy percent chance of reflecting a low calibre firearm and reduced penetration from a standard zebra assault-rifle.
Indeed but we mustn’t rush, we have all the time in Equestria and so we shall repeat the test again. Change the variables and such, you know the drill.

While the test results from earlier in the day have lent some proof, we shall be commencing the live-fire test shortly. We are currently on our way to the range now, heh, when I asked Trueblood if we could commandeer the security gun-range the look on his face was priceless. Not to mention the head of security, I don’t think the Caesar himself could give a bigger death glare even if he came muzzle to muzzle with Princess Luna.
On another note I have had to bring eight unicorn aides with me…*sigh*…Subject Two-five-nine began to resist when I said he would be participating in a live-fire test. The unicorn assistance will keep him firmly on his claws so that we can do it properly.

It seems that Gallopsy was correct. A wound. That just. Disappeared.
Now further tests must be done asap, if what we’re seeing here proves true then one of our wildest dreams about this hybrid is about to become reality! Picture it, two-five-nine in a battlefield, hoof-to-claw combat with the zebras. The battle has become bloody and deep wounds all over the subjects body and his foes bloodied but still fighting fiercly…then his wounds just disappear. The tables have turned in his favour. Every scratch repairs itself!
Or even if he handles a gun, he gets shot by an zebra in the abdomen, a few seconds later two-five-nine gets back up and shoots back. The possibilities, hell even the demoralizing effect that would have! A monster that refuses to die!

Yes, well I can confirm now that wound healed itself. But BEFORE we start to jump to conclusions let’s just try this again. Everypony take your positions and get ready. Gallopsy if the bullet sticks out go straight for it, I’ll keep my eyes on the wound. Are you ready to fire?

We’ll repeat this again, now we know this phenomenon occurs. But let’s actually do what we came here for first. This is going to be a long and exciting day.

We have tried out the Equestrian assault rifle and while it penetrates deeper into the hide when fired in single shots, the wounds aren’t fatal. However, when we ordered a burst fire of three shots the wounds inflicted were much greater and he required medical attention. In a combat-situation though he would not be in much danger, nothing a few healing potions couldn’t tide over until a medic could pull out the projectiles. On the other hand his hide won’t protect him from anything of a higher quality, I mean shrapnel from a grenade/explosive/whatever won’t cause as much damage unless he’s very close but I’d say his hide will be like anypony else’s when we go up to the standard of a revolver or say, a sniper rifle.
Amongst other things after a short break we are going to begin testing the full extent of Subject Two-five-nine’s regeneration ability. This will take at least the rest of the day if not until early morning to get a good understanding of it; it’s a good thing we aren’t constrained by the ethical/morality laws for testing down here. It would take us probably five years before we understood this ability otherwise.

Good, now let me go over this again. We shall begin the test by having the subject restrained and using the same fire-arms as before on him, after each shot one of the medics shall pluck out the bullet and then we time it until the subject heals. We shall repeat that test on different parts of the body from multiple angles. EXCLUDING the head, vital organs aren’t a problem here. While I’m sure we’re willing to take many risks to ensure the success of Chimera I don’t think we should push our luck. Has everypony got that?

So far using the assault rifles at varying ranges between 10-50metres we have determined that full penetration wounds with an exit on both the forelegs and hind legs from almost every angle will result in full regeneration regardless if bones are cracked, fractured or even pierced through. There are no negatives from the regeneration; it is exactly as if it were never shot at in the first place. From the smallest wound to the most serious we can conclude that full ability is regained after a minimum of twenty seconds and a maximum of thirty-two point two-three.
Okay! I’ve got enough data from the legs, please move onto the lower half of the barrel, which includes the tail might I add.

Time is thirty-nine minutes past six in the evening.
We have some extremely interesting news. The shot fired a few minutes ago is the cause. It was fired from twenty-five metres away and was expected to penetrate minorly; however, it struck the kidneys and appeared to be lodged within one. Trying to take it out within the twenty second window was unlikely without causing massive internal damage but as we had finally come to a decision to just yank it out we had a surprise.
The bullet wasn’t there. It’d disappeared.
Scanning him showed us there was no damage internally or externally, it was as if the bullet hadn’t existed. We took out the bullet before due to the worry it might become lodged within the regenerated tissue, like what happens with healing potions. But it seems now that the system responsible for his ability also breaks down foreign bodies too.
I’m going to have the testing re-done. Ughh, I’m thinking another few hours just got added before I can rest.

Time is thirty minutes past eight in the evening.
We have finished the lower half of the body and everything is coming along well. We have observed that the twenty to thirty second regeneration rate still applies here if there is a clean exit wound as well as if the projectile is lodged in, and then taken out, the body. When various organs were struck the subject experienced profound pain as was to be expected, however, we noticed that while most of the damaged tissue would repair itself in the timeframe the organs took at least another ten seconds on top of that. Subject Two-five-nine was observed as making what could be described as ‘awkward’ facial expressions and what the aides who were restraining him as he was ‘writhing’. I’m going to add to my report that these are feelings of discomfort. I guess it must feel strange having your organs repaired while you’re awake.
We are going to re-do the test without taking the projectiles out after we are done here because there’s no sense in scrapping a whole host of data because of one variable being added, at least this way we can get a sense if anything goes wrong.
Okay! Everypony we’re now moving onto the upper half of the body, I want all of us to be ready to move on a moment’s notice, and I don’t want what could be our big break here to die because of one lazy-ass pony. Understood?

We’re most of the way through the testing of the regeneration without any assistance. Overall what we have concluded so far from the tests with removing the projectiles inside the body and nothing else is that:
Any external and internal damage regardless of severity to the tissue is fully repaired within thirty seconds.
Every bone in the body, apart from the cervical vertebrae found in the neck and the cranium was tested. Even if the bone was cracked, fractured or even a compound fracture they still regenerate. As observed during the time of his compound fracture however, the bone is seemingly ‘pulled’ back in to be repaired, I expect this is because it was still attached to some point in the body.
Minor organs, if it’s okay to call them that, such as the kidneys, bowels, etc will take between thirty and forty seconds to repair. It is important to note that the subject experiences slight discomfort during organ repair.

Major organs critical for survival, like the heart and lungs, surprisingly or should I say not surprisingly, take between twelve and eighteen seconds to fully repair. The heart is the quickest funnily enough. A very interesting observation is that the lungs when punctured do not fill up with fluid from the body as expected but a rapid barrier of some sort is erected to prevent the fluid from entering while repairs take place. The subject feels extreme discomfort and it was a struggle to keep him from thrashing about during those times.
My next log will report the rest of my finding before I take my leave.

I’ve just got back into my office after escorting subject two-five-nine to his chambers. We sedated him after we had finished the test mostly for our own convenience but minorly because the unicorns holding him in place were exhausted.
Anyway, the conclusion of the tests! Subject two-five-nine experienced the exact same phenomenon as before and the results I presented earlier were the exact same in how long it took to repair, regardless of the projectile being present or not. Whatever system performs the regeneration also destroys foreign matter. I have a few more questions about that, such as what if he was eating as he got shot. Would it destroy the food as well?
But, we have more tests to run later on and I am going to dread the moment the two-five-nine wakes up.

We think there is a high chance of him having this ability because one of the noticeable changes to the subject after the procedure was the change of his eyes; they now perfectly mirror those of hydra so we want to ensure that this isn’t just an aesthetic change.

We have repeated the test three times now and the subject has failed to complete all three objectives three times in a row. Through our observation of his progress during the test he seems to lose the ability to calculate distances, much like those with a lazy eye or who are blind in one eye. He can still operate in the low-light environment but from if what we’re seeing is correct I think it’s safe to say one of his eyes lack the ability. While he has failed this test it isn’t really a problem. Wars aren’t always waged in darkness anyway.
I’m going to take him back to his cell personally, both to get his reward for his compliance as well as to inform him of the final test for today.

While I might’ve told the subject that we would not be performing any tests such as the regeneration one earlier I have decided to take back what I have said. Thinking about what we observed yesterday I had a spark of inspiration, what if two-five-nine’s ability wasn’t just confined to the interior of his body, what if he could regrow limbs?
It’ll take me an hour or so to sort out the necessary arrangements but I believe we can have this over and done with by five/six o’clock. We’ll also ensure that the subject is kept sedated; I think it’s in our best interests if he remains oblivious to what we’re going to do to him later on.

We’re currently in my personal lab and are prepping our tools and other various equipment for the experiment. To begin with we shall take off a few layers skin on his tail, should this prove fruitful then we will continue to take off more and more, getting deeper and deeper ‘chunks’ until we believe that he could fully regrow a body-part.
I will explain what goes on in further logs, a side note I have to say is that the subject has been given a higher dosage of sedative than we would normally use out of caution.

We’re taking a ten minute break at the moment to discuss how to progress. So far his ability has held up to expectation, we have taken small quantities of flesh from his tail and even a few from his legs just to be sure and it has all been repaired within the thirty-seconds. However, something very interesting which was seen to have occurred when organs were damaged is that a flexible mucus-like film grew over the damaged areas within five to ten seconds and then the regeneration of tissue began. We have taken some samples of this substance for future analysis.
Doctor, the overall decision on how to continue is up to you of course but we all agree that we should try amputating sections to further back up the theory on how well the subject can regenerate. I would suggest we take further tests to see the full extent but without another hybrid to compare with I don’t think that would be an appropriate course of action because of the circumstances.
I concur, we shall proceed with the amputation as you suggested but we will start somewhere not entirely crucial…I’m thinking the tip of his tail?

From what we have observed there has been a marked increase in the time it takes to regenerate every time a larger amount of the tail has been removed. The rate seems to be an extra seven seconds for every five centimetres taken on top of the seven seconds it took for the first five centimetres.

The test has been completed. The aides wanted to conduct the test on his legs and even take out huge portions of the subjects body, I refused. I don’t want to risk the subject’s body going into shock from being cut up repeatedly regardless of what his ability seems to allow. If two-five-nine continues the way he is then we might actually see our first success since the project actually began and I’ll be damned if the subject died because of a saw-happy researcher!
Anyway, the results: Subject two-five-nine does have the ability to fully regenerate working limbs. As observed when we experimented on the tail, which is one metre long, if we took the whole tail off it would take one hundred and forty seconds to fully regrow. We tested if it actually was a working limb by using small electrical shocks to stimulate movement; needless to say that was a success.
I would also hypothesise that if other limbs were somehow…’misplaced’…they would regrow perfectly within five minutes in a worst-case scenario.
The subject is currently resting within his chamber and we will be conducting a final round of tests over the next two days before determining whether or not he is to be branded a success. Should he be a success then Trueblood will most likely send him off to the MOA as an operative in the field.
I think I deserve another long sleep tonight after I finish these other reports.

Well this does explain a lot of things. His answers are probably more enlightening than what any brain scan could accomplish so in my books that means we’ve done well.
So onto my analysis of his answers: The Subject has stated that he has felt that the food he eats isn’t enough to fill him up as normal, as if, and I quote, ‘there’s a hole that just won’t fill’. I presume this down to the meagre amount of meat we put into his diet, I’ll make sure to change that and see what he feels like after. He also states that he feels the need to bathe or be in water more often; this can definitely be attributed to his merge with the hydra, since they are animals that are almost constantly in wet conditions so I presume it’s an instinct that has been passed onto the Subject.
Looking over his answer to question two he has only put a small amount of writing in, the emotion that he states is strong for him seems to be ‘annoyance’. In the Subjects’ old files his original profession was of a job that required an almost goddess-level of patience so that’s quite unusual for him but I don’t think it is of any major concern as some strong emotional responses are expected.
Onto question three, he reports that there are no voices in his head but an ‘echo’, apparently he says he has dreams about the hydra he merged with and it speaks but he can’t hear it. This is one of the things I was hoping didn’t happen, but from the way it’s described it doesn’t seem to influence him as far as I can tell. However, as a precaution I think I’m going to have him watched closer than usual, I remember previous subjects who went insane because of what they called ‘voices’ in their heads. Hopefully this ‘echo’ doesn’t end up manifesting itself.
Finally onto question four, he answered with one word: ‘Broken’. I believe this is why there hasn’t been much resistance to what we do to him if I’m honest, it isn’t unusual for a subject to require…persuasion....to do what we want but it also isn’t unusual for one to give in and follow orders. Out of curiosity however, I am interested to know in what ways he feels broken as I’m sure that information will be of some use at one point.
In conclusion I believe the mental health of Subject Two-Five-Nine is well within acceptable parameters but I want him to remain under the same amount of observation as is current just to be safe.

It’s been six days since I finished the tests with Subject Two-Five-Nine and I’ve finally had some sort of reply off Trueblood, he’s organised a meeting with those overseeing the subjects to discuss a ‘matter of great importance’. I’ll dwell on what that means later but for now what I made this little recording to really say is that nothing abnormal has been observed from the Subject over the past few days. That is all.

I have to say that I am not in a good mood at the moment. This…this meeting that Trueblood called for wasn’t a discussion at all. It was a do or die order he gave us. Sure we kicked up a fuss for an hour but when a director pulls the ‘you can be replaced’ card what can you do?
Anyway, Trueblood has told us that out of the seven hybrids only two have passed the requirements adequately, the successful ones were Two-Five-Nine naturally and Two-Five-Seven. This is where the order came in, there are currently two operations that Trueblood believes we can use to test the hybrids on to prove that Chimera is a worthwhile project. The problem is which hybrid does what. So, while this could be settled quite easily by a coin toss he thinks we should send the stronger of the two on the highest-risk operation.
We told him where to shove it.
He persuaded us otherwise.
So it seems that tomorrow morning there is going to be a literal death match but without the death part, between Two-Five-Nine and Two-Five-Seven. I’ve got the feeling that Trueblood has had this planned for a while, because if you think about it, each of us who oversee a hybrid were not allowed to have any contact with the other subjects let alone discuss what you’ve discovered with other researchers…Come to think of it, before seeing her today I haven’t actually spoken to Lightning Bay since I found, well scouted out Two-Five-Nine.

Despite having a bout of indecision on whether or not to inform the subject of what he will be doing tomorrow I decided that it would be better to let it sink in so he can come to terms with tomorrows test. I explained to him that this was the final hurdle he had to pass and a success will mean he can have greater personal freedom as well as make a difference in saving thousands of innocent ponies’ lives. That actually seemed to perk him up a bit surprisingly, but as an extra incentive he was offered his usual bottle of RAD.
Personally, I am quite worried about tomorrow. I have no idea what to expect so I can only pray to Luna that it goes well, this ‘operation’ Trueblood is on about sounds quite critical. Especially if he is only able to have one hybrid participate in it, because I know how much leverage he holds over a rather large swath of ponies. Not only that, when a project like Chimera is able to get subjects into the field we usually should have an almost unlimited choice in deployment, so if we can only send one on this operation then they either rate the project lowly or doubt the success of the operation itself.

I had to endure an earful from Trueblood earlier with him going on and on about how he thought I said Mesmer was a success, how lying to him made him look like an idiot and that I won’t make it to tomorrow morning.
I replied that if he read my reports thoroughly that not only did Mesmer succeed but there were associated…conditions that came with it. By Luna I even reiterated them to him! It’s not my fault he never mentioned that he wanted to be the one able to control Two-Five-Nine, but that doesn’t matter now. What matters is that I’ve got to see what I can do to bring Trueblood around and bring the Subject back out and into operations.

I didn’t realise it would be that easy to win Trueblood around even if he is an idiot at times. I have gotten him to reinstate Subject Two-Five-Nine as well as take part in whatever operation was originally planned. The discussion I had envisaged to get this to happen involved a lot of arguing and probably a few punches, but surprisingly he acquiesced quite quickly. He apologised for yesterday’s reaction and then started talking about how he and the project as a whole was under considerable pressure from all kinds of ponies who were eagerly waiting for a success, these ponies he said were the ones funding it. I nodded in agreement simply because it was the most sensible thing to do but that was when he truly said something strange: ‘a success that even he won’t see hitting him’.
When he agreed on the subject’s release I was told that I would only have contact with him twice before he leaves for his deployment. When he is woken from stasis and when he leaves the facility, Trueblood is bringing in the ponies who Two-Five-Nine will be working with on the operation in an attempt to allow for better communication between everypony. With that it seems I have got some things to prepare before he is woken up so I best get to it.
Oh and I’ve got to come up with a designation for him, I’ve thought about it since Lightning balked at me for forge- I mean not giving him one.

Time is twenty minutes past five in the afternoon.
Good news, after using the device on Two-five-nine in my own office it rendered him unconscious. Thanks to the notes from the previous users I used the time to prepare my trigger word. After roughly one minute he regained consciousness and was in what appeared to be a state akin to those under hypnosis, speaking the trigger word I then conducted a few small tests to see if it really worked. I can conclude it was a success and after ordering him to go to sleep I had security place him back in his cell.
I would have used the device in my lab but it was forcefully requisitioned by another group, apparently it has something to with a suspected upcoming MAS inspection. Whomever they send, they better ‘inspect’ quite lightly if they value a long life.

Time is one minute to two in the afternoon.
I’ve forgotten to mention on crucial aspect of the Mesmer device and the effect it had on Two-five-nine, shortly before actually ordering the subject to sleep I had called security in already. I asked one of them to say a phrase which contained the trigger word to see if the subject would react. It was curious to note that Two-five-nine made no response at all, when I spoke the same phrase the subject did comply. I think I can say that from the jolt the device gave his brain might’ve made him more receptive to my commands than others, I’ll have to inform Trueblood of this.
Anyway, tomorrow he will wake up and hopefully have no memory what occurred today, then we will begin the experiment. Now I must be off, the final preparations are needed there must be no slipups. Forms to fill, ponies to shout at, chemicals to prepare and most importantly coffee to make.
