One night, a cult of Nightmare Moon worshipers (not THAT cult) decide it's finally the night to sacrifice Luna and bring back Nightmare Moon. However, Luna isn't wearing the sacrificial ring (oh no)! It's, instead, on the hoof of Twilight Sparkle! So the cult decides to go either get the ring from Sparkle - or to sacrifice her instead and create a fancharacter everybody claims is "da best".
