Chapters Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Scene 1 Act 1 (Disconnection)
It's funny just how absurd the things you see around you may be. I am fairly certain the Ancients never predicted any of this, and would laugh in our face if we had the chance to tell them about our world. To think that alicorns were once respected and venerated as divine incarnations, a species of higher value. Nowadays, anypony could become an alicorn if they wanted to. Nopony cares anymore. Bathing in their pride and beauty, they often forget just how much sacrifice the Ancients had to go through to make this future possible.
These days, I feel like I am the only one who understands how hard it must be for the Princesses. They poured flesh and blood into building this kingdom, so many millenniums ago. One day, they were on top of the world, proud to stand guard over the land they built. Then, all of a sudden, the ponies cast them aside like they were nothing. Nopony cared about them having both wings and horn. Why would they? Anypony could, at just a simple payment away.
It's sad just how few people know the truth. Yesterday, a friend of mine asked me to be a substitute for his college class. Of course, I agreed. That day, they were having a lecture about Equestrian history. Since the subject in question was one of my majors, I gave the lesson myself. Never had I felt more sorrow, than in that very classroom, when fully developed ponies asked me: "What's an earth pony?" It was even more pitiful when I saw he was an earth pony himself, but had been granted a pair of artificial wings by science. Later, I discovered it was an honest question. Not only that, but many other ponies were left confused by my lecture.
In this world, there were no need for earth ponies. Actually, let me rephrase that; earth ponies can't survive in this world. We live on islands, floating thousands of miles above the surface. If one could fly or use magic, then they couldn't go anywhere. While I understand where the ignorance comes from, I'm still shocked by the fact that it exists.
Who am I kidding? I sound like a hypocrite saying these things. I am a Falsicorn myself, though not by choice. I couldn't possibly understand why my parents wanted me to be a Falsicorn. Maybe it's because of my family name. My parents always showered me in applause for my accomplishments, and let their hooves rain on me for my failures. "Perfection is the only outcome. Failure is not to be associated with our family name. It is better to let your failures consume you, than to carry on the burden of shame." Those were the principles my family has lived by for many generations. I guess that's why they wanted me to be a Falsicorn; so I may sit on the same level as the Princesses.
Carrying the Maverick name isn't easy. I am expected to be the best at everything I do, no matter how futile it may seem. I have learned the consequences of failure, one beating after another. There was no way to avoid the pain, for the ponies of this society refuse to believe in domestic violence. They are convinced harm among one's peers is a thing of the past, that we as Neo-Equestrians, have risen above such futile things. In truth, I see this world and its ponies as the failures. Implants aren't real. No matter how hard you try to convince me, I refuse to believe that these small, metal beams encrusted in my back are wings. No, throwing a couple of large feathers on the end does not help.
I never understood why suddenly, somepony decided to turn Equestria into a series of floating islands, miles above the cloud cover. What the heck what so dangerous that we had to leave the surface world? Did we create these islands out of sheer will? Were we strong-armed into making this world what it is? If only there was a way to know why everything is what it is now... Alas, it's not like we can go back in time, and ask the Ancients why.
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Yesterday, I went to Ponyville on my own for the first time in a while, just so I could purchase that new album I really like. I don't get my peers at the castle orphanage. All they like is loud, party music. Personally, I prefer video-game music. The songs I listen to are really weird; what with the lyrics about monsters and fantasies. They think I'm retarded because of it. Just because they don't understand my style, doesn't mean they can just cast me aside like I'm some sort of trash.
Speaking of trash, the Princesses assigned me with assisting the "Clean Ponyville" program. I have no idea what that has to do with Magic Academy. Also, they put this weird silver ring on my horn, as to prevent me from using my magic while helping the program. Why did I have to do this? It's not like I'm a bad student either; I'm the finest, most intelligent student in my classroom. Yeah... Now that I think about it, it doesn't sound that impressive anymore. The colts in my class are absolute morons, who just love throwing garbage around, expecting others to clean up after their mess. That somepony usually ends up being me.
How is it, that I haven't met one guy in my year so far, who isn't the least bit weird in some way. Most of the boys in my classroom are idiots. They couldn't even teleport for their lives. I know that one colt usually sits in the corner alone. I wanna talk to him, but he seems frightening. I always see him tinkering with something at his desk. He always needs to hold something in his hooves. I've never seen his face because he always wears a hooded cape. Everyday, he comes into class long before anyone else, always sits in that one corner against the wall. He gives me the creeps.
The school bell just rung. Time to go "save nature." Goodness, I hate this! Why did the Princesses assign this to me?! Or maybe it's one of the teachers... Hmm... Let's see... Which one of them has a grudge against me... Just asking myself that one question already makes for a pretty long suspect list. It's not my fault if they're teaching too slow. Half the time, I already know what they're talking about even before they begin the lesson. How am I ever going to be as good as Twilight Sparkle if I'm stuck with these third rate morons popping up everywhere?
I popped in the CD in my CD player. It was a little old school, but as long as it worked, it was good enough for me. My headphones made me oblivious to my surroundings. I was lost in a world of my own, jamming to some smooth techno beats. Hours, minutes and seconds lost all meaning to me. Time itself was now bound to the beat of the music, my bopping head, and the tapping of hooves all around me. Downtown Canterlot was especially busy at this hour. I took some liberties, and ignored everypony in my path. If I stay on the sidewalk, I'll be fine.
If only the ponies of my time would have more consideration for the world around them, then maybe I wouldn't be stuck picking up trash in the park. Yes, I do sound like a hypocrite right now, but it's true. I only hate the ponies, but certainly not Equestria itself. This land was a beautiful place I would never want to see ruined. I just wish we could have stuff like robots do all the work for us. Heck, living in the past, when all this junk didn't exist doesn't sound so bad. If only...
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Scene 2 Act 1 (Disconnection)
It was getting late already. Today was a very tiring day. I was called in to direct a seminar on ancient history, and its effects on today's world. The result was pretty depressing. I can't believe just how stupid and ungrateful these ponies are. Before I could even open the textbook program, somepony asked me: "Why does any of this matter?" The rest of the class followed in that mare's hoofsteps, and soon it was an uproar. They couldn't possibly understand the logic behind learning about "dead ponies." Sometimes, I wish this world had a reset button. I wish I could crawl into the mindsets of the population, and force them into submission, into understanding the values of old.
The sun had already ended its journey for today. Right now, I'm not even sure the Princesses bother raising their respective stars. It's not like anypony cared anymore. From what I've read, this time of thing used to attract many ponies from all over, who would come to the old city of Canterlot, just to see the Princesses raise the moon and sun. The biggest of these gatherings was the Eclipse Carnival, held in the far East of Equestria.
I looked up at the starlit sky sky. Tonight, the moon shined bright in the sky, unobstructed by the clouds. This is one of the few advantages of Neo-Equestria; there were no clouds to block our view. Up here, it never rains and snows. It's clear weather all year round. I could only wonder about the harsh complexity of the old world, having never been down there before. We've been warned by many to never traverse the cloud barrier. Often would I ask them why. What is so forbidden and dangerous that we had to leave the surface for?
Downtown's Clock Tower chimed nine times. The National Library would only stay open for another hour. I had to hurry up. The building in question was located on an island not too far from here. If I went ahead full speed, I could probaably make it. Not many pegasi and Falsicorns roamed the skies at such a later hour. Even the Cloud Patrol was asleep at this point. I had to exert some level of caution. Ah, who am I kidding? My wings haven't given up on me before, so why would they now?
In a matter of minutes, I had already jumped off the runway, and was soaring through the midnight purple skies. I remebered something from a book I've read; in ancient times, this was the first day of the Eclipse Carnival. How could I forget? Usually, I go ahead to the castle, and pay a visit to the Princesses. Nopony does so anymore. Nowadays, they are no more than a mere skeleton of their former selves; powerless figureheads the general public doesn't even remember anymore. They greatly appreciate my visits, and are quite pleased with my interest in ancient history. There's just something in their eyes, something that doesn't seem right when I ask them about "the surface." Each time, they only dodge the question, and move on to another topic.
I had been in the air for about half-and-hour now. Something didn't seem right; the library should have been closer. It would be really hard to pass by such a gigantic marvel without knowing it. The building was from the old days, built entirely of marble for about 10-stories high.
I felt an electrifying sensation in my back. It hurt a lot. Was someone applying electroshock on me without my knowing? I turned around, only to have a steel rod pierce through my flesh. The sharp and sudden sensation paralyzed me for a moment. My body was shaking, zapped by some sort of electrical bolt. I felt heavier than ever before. Gravity was calling me deviously, dragging me down into the depths of the unknown. A beam flew by at extreme speeds, soon followed by a storm of snow white feather, and a rain of crimson red droplets. I realized then that my wings were falling apart. And at this hour, there were no guards to catch me in my fall.
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Scene 2 Act 1 Part 2 (Disconnection)
Why was this happening?! Never before had I experienced such a problem, let alone in midair. If my wings were this weak, then they would not have even left the factory. Plus, every month, I schedule a checkup with my mechanics. At least the cloud bots were there to save me. This thought helped alleviate my panic a little, and gave me some thinking power.
I flipped over on my back, as instructed in such an emergency, and awaited the arrival of the cloud bots. They were basically synthetic, equine-like creatures of liquid metal. They served no other purpose but to catch those who fell from the heavens. Personally, I've never seen one face to face, but just the mere idea behind such a thing tore me apart.
On one hand, I was grateful and fascinated by the wonders of technology. However, I was also frightened by this new-found power of ours to create synthetic lifeforms, that look and behave just like we do. What if they decided they were better than we were? Would we be able to stop metallic versions of our race? No matter how sturdy our implants, they were clearly not made for battle.
That fact always troubled me; how is it that we were able to strive without conflict? Conflict between each other and oneself is what pushes the equine spirit forwards. Without it, we wouldn't progress as a species. Evolution itself is a conflict. Earth ponies have stronger bodies, and a sturdier anatomy because they have to overcompensate. Unicorns, like me, possess greater brain power in order to understand and mold magic to our will. Pegasi are born with lighter bones and stretchier skin, as to ease flight, and maintain proper wind resistance naturally. These were once common facts; universal truths to our kin, if you will. But this... Being able to become whatever we wanted, just a payment away. I felt a little cheated...
An alarming observation, actually two, brought my hooves back down to reality. I noticed something very abnormal, the island seem to have shifted positions; floating down closer to the clouds, and spread apart far more than usual. Movement wasn't irregular, but never as extreme as this.
And there was another problem; why haven't the cloudbots arrived yet? It's at that moment that I realized not only how high above the clouds the islands were (which were very high above the clouds), but that nopony was there to catch me. I tried whailing around, screaming for help, but no answer. Where the heck were the cloud bots? In fact, why was nopony in the air? I know it's late, but there's usually a few policemen and guards flying around! Ugh... This sharp feeling of pain... My body felt much heavier than usual. The remaining beams of my artificial wings felt burdensome, and quite painful as well. They seem to be jiggling around, the inner tips moving back and forth on my spine. It was a dull rubbing sensation, but bothersome enough to trouble me.
I turned around. The clouds seemed less that ten meters away. Already, my surroundings took on a slight dirty white hue.
Nine. Pressure's dropping...
Eight. Feeling a little light headed...
Seven. Everything seems a little foggier...
Six. No.. The parts were falling with me!
Five. They're gonna hit me!
Four. What is this red? Am I still bleeding?!
Three. My fur feels wet... Losing feeling of limbs...
Two. I can barely see the islands now...
One. Nothing but white... The sharp edges of the beams are gonna hit me...
Zero. Everything faded to black.
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
The first day was about to end in a matter of minutes. I looked at my novelty pocket watch, despite the looks of jealousy all around me. It was a brand new piece of technology, made from fine silver and iron gears, all bolted inside a case of pure gold. The watch itself was somewhat heavy, but it sufficed my needs. I couldn't possibly imagine this ever getting any better.
I loved fantasizing about the wonders of technology. There was just something impressive about it, and all of the possibilities. Today, were are able to hold time within our hooves, and light a fire in a single stroke of a wooden stick. What's next? Me and my scholars often drew sketches of what we believe the future will look like.
One day, a fellow thinker came to our meeting equipped with a handful of parchments; blueprints to artificial wings and horns. We all had a great laugh. He was convinced this was the way to the future; artificial, fully functional limbs made of aluminium tubing, implanted withing one's body, and connected to their nerves, as to establish a bond between their brains and the limb. Even though he had become the laughingstock of our group, he was still convinced he had created breakthrough technology "too advanced" for our time. The last time we saw him, he told us he would bury his blueprints in a time capsule, in hopes of preservation for the future generations to come.

The crowds rushed from left to right, wanting to see and try everything. The tourists in particular seemed quite dazzled by the wonders of the East. Travel was costly, and often time too difficult to accomplish. We couldn't fly over mountains, nor could we swim across oceans. Those who dared venture into the large divide between East and West had to do so manually. Many of them would not ever come back. Those who did were hailed as heroes.
However, I couldn't help but feel unease towards these tourists. They did not look at all equipped for such a journey; little to no supplies, bright flashing light-boxes around their necks, not a single compass in sight, nor do they have a map at hoof. They seemed well fed, and in too good condition to have ventured through the harsh climates of the mountains. Some of them, the women especially, wore incredibly complex, yet simple clothing. I saw multi-layered dresses, woven together without any pattern in the threading, covered in beads and jewels. It certainly was impressive, but insultingly simple. My own robes were only one layers, but each thread told a story.
Maybe all this has to do with a rumor I've heard? Along the borders, they speak of these large steel beams, that traverse into the distance. All they saw were workers placing these beams in place, and leaving just as abruptly as they came. Nopony had any clue what they were. The very next day, the children of the borders were scared senseless by what they said was a huge dragon of steel, bursting at great speeds right through the mountain rock, over rivers and across forests. When it reared its ugly head near the village, the people hid in utter fear, observing in horror as ponies came out of its stomach. I guess it wasn't hungry anymore.
They told me it had a large head of steel, seemingly covered in impenetrable armor. From the tip of its horn emerged this heavy black smoke, bringing about respiratory problems. I couldn't go to the village myself, and see what these claims were about. However, the massive creature of steel did seem impressive. All I could do for the moment was send over medicinal herbs for the sickly.
The further I went, the more stifling this city felt. Ponies all around me were too busy minding about their own enjoyment. I was overwhelmed by just how many people came from far away, just to see this festival. I identified hundreds of tourists, unaccustomed to our traditions, doing what they thought was right. I decided it was time for some fresh air, left the city walls, and disappeared into the cold, chilling night.
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Scene 2 Act 3 Part 1 (Lavender)
"Manehattan bombing kills five. Police have no tangible leads, but believe it may be connected to a recent string of bombings all over Equestria." Geez; I didn't expect something like this to happen. I mean what the heck?! Who does this in their free time?
Meh, whatever. As long as it doesn't affect me, I have no reason to care. The night was young, and somewhere in the far east, the ever so popular "Eclipse Carnival" had already begun. I've never been outside of Canterlot. I heard Twilight Sparkle lived in Ponyville during her lifetime. I have no clue whether or not she's still alive. I've read her journals in order to get ahead of everypony else, and she mentions awakening the Elements over 50 years ago. I'm only in my late teens. Fifty years ago seems pretty far back. I wonder how long it will take us to have robots. More importantly; will there ever be a day when I can have wings?
Seriously; I'm pretty jealous of Luna and Celestia right now. They can fly, and use magic. I stopped for a moment, and grabbed a stick of chewing gum from by saddlebag. Gosh, these saddle things kinda hurt. Not only that, but they feel somewhat kinky. Does this look like an invitation for "a wild ride?"
You know, ion the topic of artificial wings, I think I saw something about it in the Canterlot libraries. The librarians there, being the minimum wage failures they are, had no idea what they were. Since the documents were labeled as resource, I had no rights to borrow them for a weekend or something. Do you know just how hard it was to get Luna to come down to the library with me? Now I owe the two double the chores I had last week. I think the only reason they even bother with me is because of my skills. If I was just an average student, I'd be invisible. Instead, I made it my lifelong goal to become as skilled as Twilight Sparkle. It's always been like this, from the day I was admitted into the castle orphanage, all the way to today.
Once we were there, she told me that long ago, a colt from the east traveled all the way here just to gift the Princesses with these priceless "blueprints." She said he died on arrival, was horribly emaciated, and had suffered from poison, burns, frost, and basically everything else mother nature threw at us. Having spent a thousand years on the moon, Luna couldn't really remember his name. She did suggest however, that I talk it over with Celestia.
Anyways, back on topic. I asked her what they were about, being unable to read whatever the heck these pictograph doodles were. Seriously, what kind of hieroglyphic language is this? All the characters are just piles of complicated lines. The Princess of the Night described these sketches as "plans for perfection." That was what the colt had told her before he died.
On a personal note, she told me such ideals would never amount to anything. Being able to forge artificial limbs is no way to bring happiness and equality. Luna added that they would only serve as leverage for the rich, and as food to the jealousy of the poor. Right after speaking out that last part, she turned away from me, and flew out the building, all the way back home. I don't get her. Was she always this mysterious? Meh, whatever.
So... From what I can tell, these are sketches and rough drafts for artificial limbs, such as wings and a horn. I sneakingly took a picture of the blueprints. Perfect fanfiction material for later. It'll be about a world where ponies are full of artificial implants, and can't tell apart who's real and who's not. Yeah! That sounds great! Now, how about a name? Hmm... Got it! "Falsicorn" sounds right! Yeah! Perfect combo of False and Alicorn. Man... I love my ideas. I just hope one day, the rest of the world will see my writing genius. Think I'll prepare a script once I get back home...
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Scene 2 Act 3 Part 2 (Lavender)
Writing a script is always the hard part. I never get good ideas at the right time. I'm thinking I need a change of pace. Something exciting, you know? Everyday life is just so boring. Same song, different day. I want a fresh experience. The lack of change is most likely why my writing has been faltering recently. My dream has always involved literature, in one shape or another. With the rise of television, ponies are starting to question books. What morons they are; books are mere paper, brought to life solely by the reader's imagination. Electronics could easily become sentient. Heck, they might even have a mind of their own one day, and decide we're not "worthy." What?! It's a possibility. Brr... I get chills just thinking about it.
Hmm... That sounds like a great idea for a script actually. Yeah... A society where the worthy are perfected, and everypony else is sentenced to eradication. Hmm... How could I fit my previous idea though... I got it! How about a world where the "worthy" receive those "implants," proudly earning the title of Falsicorn! Yeah! That sounds like a great idea for a dystopic fiction.
Ugh... It's still not enough... This is certainly a good base, but nothing much in between. There needs to be more. There has to be more; whether for my fans or for me. What? I have fans. Hey, it's not like the internet isn't a thing. In fact, it's a huge thing. I've gotten quite the feedback; for better or for worse. Of course, there are the occasional parasprites (seem to be getting quite a few recently), but that's all besides the point. I really need a change of pace. Perhaps a stroll can help me gather up some ideas together.
On my way to the Everfree Forest, I stopped by a small record shop in a remote part of Canterlot. I used to come here all the time as a child. Too bad the old owner died. He was such a nice colt. We would always talk about our musical preferences. I personally love a much more refined tune, as opposed to the loud, headbanging trash that comes out today. Granted, Vinyl Scratch, better known as DJ-PON3, did leave quite a mark on this earth. And then there was Octavia. I remember vague memories relating to a concert of hers I attended as a young filly. Heaven must sound beautiful right now.
When I think about all these things, and just how much I missed out on, I really wish I was born in a different time. Ancient history was filled with wonders and mysteries. Great thinkers, poets, painters, musicians; all ponies of my caliber, roaming about their daily lives, alive and free. If I was a mare of the past, I would be trotting along the busy city streets by their side. I wonder what kind of figure history would have remembered me as.
Flam took a break from his usual drum rehearsal, and politely greeted me. At first glance, he didn't seem like the "classy" type; his mane was dyed black and sapphire blue, had tail and hair extensions of matching colors, and a piercing on the lip, coupled with two very stylish earrings. Despite this punk appearance, he possessed a warm and caring heart, putting others before him. He has his reasons I'm sure. Maybe I shouldn't have said those things. Had I never spoken in the first place, perhaps he would not hate himself as much.
"Welcome Lavender," he said in his usual, gruff voice. "We finally got that new album you wanted. It was a foreign import, so i had to blow some of my own money for it. I just hope your happy it arrived." His smile filled with unease. What was this feeling inside my heart? is it... Remorse? I haven't felt such a sensation in so long. I guess being an elite does take away a part of you.
"Thanks a lot Flam. I appreciate your help. Here; keep the change." I dropped a 50 bit bill on the table, along with a few 2 bit coins. "This should be more than enough to cover the shipping fees."
He said nothing. I spoke no words. Yet somehow, I could see a sparkle in his eyes, despite all the hair hiding those lush green irises. He was trying not to smile. I shrugged. Money's quite superficial to me. As long as I can make more, I don't give a crap about it. He put my bits in his own pockets. Just like that, I walked out, watching tears fall down his cheeks from the outside window. Guess this is just the way I connect. Am I really still bitter at them? Am I really holding onto a grudge that might not even exist? It's just... I cannot forgive you for what you two did to me. Both of you, mother and father, should have been there. Instead, I got to grow up alone, bitter and cold.
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Interlude: Passage of Time
Fate is unpredictable; whether things work out or not, we have no way of knowing. When our dreams do come true, when fate does work in our favor, we do nothing more than to savor the moment. However, few, if not none, of us truly think of what we have set in motion. Each dream must have a legacy, no matter how small and insignificant it may seem in the moment. Nobody knows what the future reserves for us, nor do they know just how their works will be viewed as, or interpreted.
The great minds of the past were not always hailed as scientific geniuses. Gallopleo, now viewed as the father of "modern science," was once considered a horrible heretic. Celestia wasn't always as reliable as she is now in Lavender's time. It certainly isn't easy to carry the weight of immortality. Even if she has lived longer than anypony else, the Princess wasn't born smart. She learned much from the past thousand years, and will always keep learning more about her world, about her kingdom.
Even as immortals, Luna and Celestia still have a legacy in place. Although nopony knows what it may be, they are confident in the Princess' capabilities. All dreams, nightmares, and actions have a lasting impact, consequences, and play a great role into making us who we are today. Yet, there is no way of knowing how ourselves as individuals can shape the future. Think of tomorrow as a large stone, and we are mere sculptors, chipping away at the stone, one lifetime at a time. We are the ones building the future, dent by dent.
Maverick, along with the rest of the philosopher council, chased away the colt who proposed blueprints for artificial wings. That very same equine traveled all the way west, unprepared and angry. Had he known more about the world, he would have simply taken a train. Ignorance is truly pitiful. Those blueprints should have never made it out the forests and mountains between east and west, destined to lay dormant, away from the hooves of equine kind.
By some twist of fate, the colt in question made it all the way to Canterlot. With his last dying breath, he gifted the much wiser Princess Celestia with his lifelong dreams. While others might have been labeled as heretics, nopony would mess with the Princess herself. She made it clear she could be the sole ruler of Equestria, and anypony in her way would indeed suffer. For her kingdom, she sacrificed her sister. All dreams, nightmares, and actions have a legacy.
Celestia took the blueprints in her care, exploring the possibility of synthetic limbs. Despite all the risks and hazards, she kept them safe in plain sight. About a half a millennium later, she met her faithful disciple Twilight. Crystal did promise the two would meet again. Now, about fifty years later, Twilight's time is this world had expired. Forever grateful for all that she was able to see, Twilight left with a smile on her face. However, on that faithful night, many years after Twilight joined her friends in the stars, a mysterious cry was heard.
The two sisters rushed to the front gates, where the noise came from. There she was; asleep in a small basket, comfortably wrapped in a soft, silk blanket. By her lavender purple mane, a note had been placed. There was only one word on the paper; "Fate." Finally, after many years of grieving and despair, Celestia cracked a smile. Luna stared blankly at her sister, confused. The Princess of the Sun held her note against her chest, and decided to take care of this filly unicorn. The foal was named after her lush, beautiful, lavender mane.
Almost two decades had passed since. Fate united Lavender with the blueprints, which were left untouched by the wounds of time. Seeing these sketches, her writer's instincts immediately gave birth to a seemingly innocent idea. That night, she started working on a dystopic novel about false alicorns, nicknamed "Falsicorns", a future of perfection, and lands above the reach of equines.
Lavender had no idea what she just set in motion.
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Scene 3 Act 1 Part 1 (Disconnection)
"Listen to my voice..." Huh? Who's there? "I know you have many questions, but please..." Wha... How... Can you read my mind? "I'm trying to communicate with you from the other side." Other side... Are you... dead? "... I prefer not to think about it this way... It has been far too long since there was an Element of Harmony." Element of Harmony?! I... I thought they were only legends! "No, they were real for a time. After that, things changed. All this should not have ever happened. Those blasphemous plans should have remained no more than radical ideas, concealed far beyond the reaches of equestrian hooves. All of this... I can't believe it was one of us that ended us." What do you mean?! I'm so confused. My head still hurts...
At last, I gathered enough strength to try and open my eyes. I was in some sort of room. "You are inside the Element of Magic." What?! "Because of her... She was not worthy of me, and I should have known. The stench of lavender has poisoned the purity behind such a beautiful, priceless gem." What are you talking about? "If she had not written down her wild fantasies, then you wouldn't have to live like this. You wouldn't feel the rage and betrayal of ignoring countless centuries of history. You wouldn't have these despicable wings of steel. You, and everypony else would be normal; just the way you always wanted it to be."
I immediately understood the meaning behind her words; she was talking about the Declaration of Liberty and Equality of Equestria. It was written centuries ago, and signed by the greedy, selfish, and jealous citizens of our society. They were tired of oppression, and soon gathered large armed followings on permanent standby, in hopes of crushing any and all resistance. When I look back at their actions now, I see nothing but irrational demands, complete and utter heresy against nature's gift of life, all of which stem from the horrid interpretation of a single literary work, which long ago captured the attention of millions. Wait... Literary work...
"Her name. Tell me her name!" I demanded. The bright silhouette emitted no response. Finally, the spirit answered, her essence swaying to an absent breeze. "She is not worthy of a name anymore. However, at one point in time, I believe mortals referred to this mare as Lavender." Strange... This name seems so familiar. "She was rightfully, and properly judged just years after writing her one-hit wonder. We made sure she suffered for her sins." I jumped up startled, my eyes expressing a mixture of horror and surprise.
"What did you ponies do to her?!" I saw a smirk appear on her featureless face. "What did you do?!" A familiar voice was heard afar. "And to think she wanted to follow in my footsteps. How pitiful... Truly, it was only appropriate for a distraught sinner like her to die at the hooves of the one she admired." At first, the spirit and the voice chuckled. However, just moments later, they burst out in a dreadful, and maniacal laughter. I tried running, but of no use. I looked down at myself, and saw nothing. And then, there was no sound. After that, I couldn't feel the solid ground beneath me. Then, the images I saw fragmented before my very eyes, each frame recreating itself into a bloody, distorted mosaic. The creature-like thing came at me, its large, steel jaws clenching over my being. I stood powerless against the beast, and I watched it close its jaws over my body, or where it should have been at least.
I woke up suddenly, panting, still running for my dear life, all covered in sweat and tears.
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Scene 3 Act 1 Part 2 (Disconnection)
I examined my surroundings, still in shock from the nightmare I just had. The room was quite small, and relatively empty. The walls were colorless, cold, empty. I saw myself in their reflection, and felt a chill pierce through my heart. This place knew nothing of love and care. To my right was a small nightstand, left untouched, pure from paint and other variants of coloration.
My bed was relatively large; probably a twin size. The mattress sank in beneath my flank. Nowadays, self-adapting mattresses were a norm. I didn't bother turning on the lights; it was already midday, though how I could tell was still a mystery. Why can I see the sun, if a cloud cover looms beneath Neo-Equestria? I did fall through the barrier, right?
Ugh... Maybe it's time for me to get up. Yeah, some movement should do me some good. Carefully, I reached for the floor. It was frozen, or so I thought. I could see my reflection everywhere. Wait... Reflection... Woah! What the heck?! My wings are intact! No... The color scheme's a little different, and their design seems tweaked. Hmm... I could have sworn the beams were gold. Although, I am a fan of these shorter, black ones. They really make my feathers stick out. They're much smaller too! Let's see... Woah! They flap so fast! Hey, I'm hovering! That's awesome! Sure, there's gust, but still! Freaking hovering!
"Do you like them?" My heart stopped for a moment. I fell face first on the floor. It really was frozen, or at the very least extremely cold. "I apologize in advance for the floor. Master absolutely insists. He likes the cold." My limbs were still sore. Getting up wasn't the first thing on my mind. "May I ask you a question sir?"
"Go ahead," I mumbled, still in pain. I'm pretty sure if you looked, you'd see frost beneath me. You'd think I would have gotten used to sheer cold, considering I lived above the clouds. "I apologize in advance if I may offend you, but where did you get the SkyMetal for your wings?" Huh? SkyMetal? "What are you talking about?"
"The SkyMetal your wings were made of; where did you find it?" I sensed unease in her voice. "My wings? Oh! Are you interested? I could contact my BlackSmith."
"Even Master does not have a Blacksmith, despite his... Trade corporation! Are you some kind of billionaire?!" What the hell type of question was that? "No... I'm just a history major from Neo-Equestria..." I had just enough strength to turn around. A sudden impulse of adrenaline coursed through my veins, as I saw her grab a machete, dashing towards me. What the heck?! Is she nuts?! She barely missed me by less than a centimeter.
"Die you spy! We will not conform to your demands!" What demands?! Ah! Stop this crap! Gyah! Barely dodged that one! "What the heck are you talking about?! You think I fell through the clouds on my own free will?" It's no use if she won't listen! "Why would a spy come here with wrecked wings?" I heard a deep, gruff voice ask behind me. The maid stopped, and dropped the machete.
"I apologize for her sudden assault. Ai! Apologize." She bowed. My face turned red. "I... I apologize sir," she mumbled backing away towards the door.
"Ai! Stay. You only did what you had to do. There was no way of knowing." He turned to me, pointing at my cutie mark, and said: "Welcome to the Surface Flames of Fate. I am Silver, and we have been expecting you."
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Scene 3 Act 1 Part 3 (Disconnection)
"Why don't you sit down Neo-Equestrian? Please, make yourself comfortable." I was a little afraid of what may be in store for me. However, he didn't seem like a bad colt. He had a long, silver mane covering his right eye, coupled with a somewhat gray coat. The colors fit together perfectly. It's not wonder his name is Silver. I'd place him close to my age range; probably in his late twenties too.
"Do you mind if I clear my throat a little bit? My voice usually isn't this gruff." Whatever pleases you. It's your house. I'm the guest here. "Ah! Much better! Are you comfortable on those pillows?" Dude, you have a leather chair. I have pillows. What do you think? "Sorry, but I'll have to adjust this chair a little. Give me a moment here... Ai! Go fetch extra pillows for our guest!" And just like that, the violet pony vanished as swiftly as she came.
"Now then, tell me how you got here." I don't know why, but something felt soothing about him. He was a completely unmodified Earth Pony; one of the few remaining in this world. I couldn't help but feel at ease before him. I wanted to tell him more. I wasn't afraid he'd betray my secrets. I went on, and on, and on for what I felt was an eternity. he just sat there, listening. I didn't even notice Ai handing me extra pillows until she was literally next to me. This level of trust, established so fast, couldn't have been a spell. Ai was a unicorn, but I doubt she would be skilled enough to pull of an enchantment like this. Silver just sat there, listening. Eventually, Ai made herself comfortable too. Neither she or I were afraid of him.
"That's very interesting Disconnection. I must say, I expected nothing less from the Flames of Fate." Still, what are the Flames of Fate? "I'm glad you asked that question Disconnection." What?! Did he just read me mind or something? How did he know? I didn't say anything, right? "The Flames of Fate are a precious mark, rumored to house incredible power. I've heard somewhere that they originated somewhere East. Hmm... Yes... East of Eden..." I could've sworn I just saw Ai wink at him. His reply was nothing short of a smile.
"Oh dear! Look at the time! I believe you must be very hungry. Go ahead and help yourself. The dining hall is down that hall. Ai, may I speak to you for a moment." I pretended leaving down the hall, when in reality, I stuck my back against the wall next to the door. "What is it master?" I heard her ask.
"- Please, there is no need to call me master anymore, my liege.
-I am not your monarch, nor may I ever aspire to be.
-Ah yes..."
Wait... That's Ai speaking, right? Everything was silent for a moment. Why was Ai talking about being a monarch? I heard hoofsteps moving away from the door.
"-Do you know about the monarch butterfly?
-Pardon me Silver?
-The monarch butterfly is such a marvelous species. I simply admire the flamboyance of its wings.
-What does this have to do with anything?"
Another uneasy silence, this time far longer. Why is he talking about monarch butterflies? This all seems pretty strange...
"-Surely, a queen like you must have heard of the 'Butterfly Effect?'
-I am not a queen.
-You mean to tell me you have no intention of outranking your mother?
-Mother and Auntie have their own duties upstairs. My job is to protect those who struggle to survive down here?
-Surely, you will not be of much help inside these city walls."
Mother and Auntie? Who could she be referring too? I heard Silver sip something; probably tea.
"-Mother and Auntie have nothing to do upstairs. They are ignored, and forgotten by all.
-None of this would have happened if the Scrolls never made it past the borders.
-I must say; for a monarch, you sure love to pin your problems on others.
-Are you saying Mother and Auntie are incompetent?! The fall of Equestria was none of their fault!
-Hush, please. You're so noisy for your age.
-How dare you speak to me like that?"
Silver chuckled. Neither ponies said anything for a while. Mother and Auntie... Upstairs... Outranking... The fall of Equestria... Could it be? No... That's impossible. I seriously doubt it. Hmm... Everything she said points to Celestia and Luna. However, I am confident Celestia never had a child, or else the world would have been notified of such an important event! Then again, our world is too self-centered nowadays. Maybe the news concerning this 'foal' were tossed aside, merely glanced over, just like everything else that is truly important. Finally, a stern, feminine voice broke the silence.
"-Why did you choose this form?
-I beat your pardon Majesty?
-Ugh... Stop calling me that! Anyways, why an Earth pony? You could have been a powerful unicorn, a skillful pegasus, or maybe even an All-Mighty Alicorn, respected and feared by all!"
From the minuscule opening, I saw Silver shrug. What the heck man?! What is she talking about? Isn't Ai your maid, but now you're referring to her as 'queen?' What's all this business about Alicorns?! Ugh... Brain hurts... So many... So much information coming in at once. How am I going to make sense of this? Something inside my brain tells me I probably won't be able to.
"You place too much confidence in my powers, yet never enough in yours. You chose to become a maid under my authority. Why not a scribe, a business parter, or co-founder?"
"And besides; being what I am is not fun at all. I want challenge. I want hardships. I want to feel the pressure of society, even if higher class. I know at the end of the day, my work brings hopes and smiles amongst those in need. I want to feel alive, something I haven't done in far too long."
The two were coming towards the door. I made no efforts hiding. When asked, the two i had simply lost my way. Without even the slightest ounce of suspicion, Silver ordered Ai to show me the way. Quietly, I trailed not too far behind. I heard everything. I remember everything. What the heck is going on here?
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Scene 3 Act 2 Part 1 (Lavender)
"She's such a bitch!" Get out of my face! What's wrong with her?! Stop taking. Did her parents drop her on her head or something?! What did you say?! Wow... Somepony didn't get enough loving as a foal... As a matter of fact, I didn't. Do you have a problem with that? Ya heard the rumors about her? I hear she's mentally insane.
Enough already! I've had it with ponies, and their ignorant ways. And they dare call me the animal. That's why I like it here; I can scream as loud as I want, do what pleases me, and there is nopony to bother me, or nag me about it. Here I stand, held up by a cool breeze, pondering my place in the world. One day, I will outgrow these castle walls. One day, I will leave Canterlot. Even Celestia's grasp can't hold me here forever. Sigh... After that, where will I go? Life is an open door, with lions waiting on the other side, famished for blood and tears.
My brain keeps reminding me that this is just a forest, another kingdom where I don't belong. Yet, a part of me feels like there is more to this place than my eye can see. I hear crickets chirping all around me. Life never really rests; when one goes to sleep, another awakens. Right now, I am asleep. When will I awaken? Are all these dreams really within my reach? Ack... I don't know... The sheer openness of the woods are as frightening as they are soothing.
I am technically outside of Canterlot's walls right now. I could run away right now, without turning back. The Princesses can't hold me here forever. I readied myself by stretching my hooves, bending my forelegs forwards in a running position. This is it; this is where the rest of my life begins! Ready?! Set?! Set?! Set? Set... Set... Ready? G... G... Suddenly, my legs felt stiff as stone. My limbs couldn't move, yet there was nobody holding me back with magic. Why can't I run?! Why?! Why can't I run? Why? Why... Run! Run!
Why am I screaming my thoughts out loud now? "Show yourself! Why are you holding me back Celestia! Show yourself! You too Luna! Celestia! Luna! Teacher! Princesses!" My throat went dry from all that screaming. Nopony answered, just a calm wind whistling by. I kept my head down, making sure my mane covered my eyes. Nopony could see me like this. Nopony could see my face like this. The ruthless Lavender, one of Canterlot's finest, one who dares strive for, and one day surpass the legendary Twilight Sparkle. I am Lavender, the selfish, narcissistic, soulless bitch of Canterlot's Magical Academy. I can't let them see... I can't let them break me... I can't... I can't...
Bitter tears gushed down my pampered cheeks, taking away everything fake about me. My dark eyeliner is going to smear everywhere. My hair's going to be a mess tomorrow. My face... I don't want them to see my face. It's not perfect! My eyelashes aren't perfect yet! I have to fix my fake eyelashes. I have to apply new makeup. I have to put the eyeliner back on. I'll need someone to style my mane again. They'll need to place that tiara just right again.
I can't back to town looking like this. I have to look presentable! I have to... I have to look perfect! I have to make sure they never see my real face. I can't let them... Stop... Enough... Stop laughing at me! There's nothing wrong with me! There's absolutely... No! I don't want to wear it! Stop! This isn't me... This isn't right... Trendy? What do you mean by trends? It'll make me popular... Can it bring me friends? Yes?! It can?! Yes! It can! It's perfect! I'm perfect! I am... I am perfect... I have... I have friends now... Don't cry... You have friends now... You have friends, right? Right?! Somepony answer me! Mother... Father... Mommy... Mommy... Daddy... Why did you leave me?! ANSWER ME!!!
I couldn't hold it back anymore. Keeping them imprisoned does nothing more than hurt my face. However, if I let them escape, they'll ruin my perfect visage. Maybe just a little bit... It was no use; once there was a crack in the dam, as small and insignificant as it may seem, the flood must come. I cried an ocean of the bitterest tears, and my only reply was the howls of timberwolves afar.
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Scene 4 Act 1 Part 1 (Disconnection)
"So tell me, Disconnection, what do you think of the surface?" Quite frankly, I'm shocked! This isn't like anything I've every been told. This place actually seems decent. Still, I'm curious as to why there is a sunlit sky in the first place. I thought the cloud barrier covered everything.
"It does," added Silver, sipping a glass of finely aged wine. How does he do that?! Can he read my thoughts? "Not really. Your face just tells me all I need to know." What?! You can tell everything just by my facial expressions?! They're so subtle though... "I know they are. Let's just say it's a gift of mine." A smirk on his face, he put down the glass of wine, and invited me on a stroll around the city.
"- Ai, get a coat ready for our guest.
That's right; nopony has implants down here! Ai came in the room, reluctantly handing me a black cape. I had to subtly tug it off her hooves. She hated me. I can't blame her; after all, the relationship between the Surface and Neo-Equestria seems a little shaky.
"- By the way Disconnection, do you like your new wings?
I love them actually! They feel so much lighter than before!
Yeah, well that's because SkyMetal is kind of heavy. I've taken the liberty to replace some of the missing parts with Surface Ores, as to lighten the load, all the while avoiding detection."
Detection? Surface Ores? SkyMetal? Hmm... Ai mentioned that last one earlier... "May I ask you a question, Silver?"
"Ask away," he replied ever so casually. Everything about him was non-threatening. He was so laid back in his attitude, displaying little to no worry about anything. "What is 'SkyMetal?'"
Ai stopped in her tracks. Everypony stood still. For a moment, you could hear the calm wind, whistling by. I don't know if my question shocked Silver, or he was just trying to find an appropriate reply. Either way, I think I landed myself a higher spot of Ai's potential "to kill" list.
"SkyMetal is a special kind of lightweight steel, that is both incredibly durable, and flexible. Now, if you ask yourself why these Surface Ores in your wings feel much lighter and responsive, then I would have to give you a full lecture about the Surface's history. Unfortunately, we don't have time for that right now. Besides, I am in a rather cheery mood, and would prefer not have something ruin my 'mojo.'
Nopony said anything. I just stared blankly into his grey, amber eyes. "What? It's still a term, right?" No, it isn't. You are a few centuries late, my friend. "Well then, in all seriousness, let us walk out of this place. I am in need for some fresh air."
And I am in need of fresh answers.
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Scene 4 Act 1 Part 2 (Disconnection)
I couldn't help but feel very uneasy outside. The streets were, for the most part, empty. An unsettling atmosphere reigned, looming about ominously. The city itself consisted of large skyscrapers, paired with slick, polished roads. I don't know what they were jaded of, but it certainly fell into a glass-like category. I could see my reflection on the square tiles. This whole city was a grid in the most literal of manners. The roads, sidewalks, and alleys were all made of perfect square tiles. Underneath each of them were four lights, placed at each angle.
"It's for nocturnal illumination. Unlike Neo-Equestria, it gets pretty dark down here. We should be the ones with the cat eyes." Did he notice them already? I guess it's pretty hard to miss, considering the eyes are the first thing you see in a pony face to face. It was a popular trend in Neo-Equestria. However, I consider myself part of the few who actually need them. I just happened to be a victim of a genetic defect, making me blind at birth. What was once conceived as strange and unusual before, had now become a popular norm. I guess there are a few pros to our technology.
"Hey, Silver! Over there!" I pointed him towards a rather large gathering centered around this rather large, marble fountain. "What's going on over there?" I asked. The colt stood still, gazing in their general direction without saying a word. Ai lowered her head, cringing. Her legs shook, even though it was not very cold. What is going on? "I'm going to take a look," I finally added, pushing through the crowd. I turned back one last time. Silver was holding Ai back. She wrestled him violently, trying to break free. After that metal image, the crowds became too dense to see anything else.
I heard loud, painful pleas for help, followed shortly by a cracking whip. The further I pushed through, the louder it became. Gah! My wings are starting to tear through the fabric! Stupid metal... I hope I didn't injure anypony else. Wait a minute... Why is nopony doing anything?! If my instincts are correct, then somepony is being whipped. Why is everypony just standing there watching? Hmm... They don't seem to be enjoying the spectacle either... I guess that's a good sign. Just a little further...
"Stop! That's enough!" I cried atop my lungs, a large fireball floating a few inches above my horn. Screw discretion! This pony is in trouble! Actually, it wasn't just one pony, but seven beat up foals, huddled against one another. Some of their scars were older, while the remaining ones still bled. I couldn't tell what color their coats were anymore. One thing is for sure however: they spent a lot of time in some sort of sandy place. Could a sandstorm have torn their fur off? A quick glance around at my surroundings revealed nothing even remotely sandy. I didn't see an inch of green, let along sand. A sudden sting in my lower back stopped me in my tracks.
What is your calling, Flames of Fate? Huh? Who's talking? Do you hear your calling, Flames? Ugh... My head hurts right now. Screwing discretion was probably a bad idea. Now, whoever these ponies may be, it won't change the facts. I am their new target. They were armored from the neck down, each wielding a taser gun of some sort.
Do you know why you are doing this? I... I... Is it because they are just like you? ... You remember, right? Of course... Of course I do! How could I ever forget? Hmm... It seems you've found your conviction Flames. You remind me oh so much of him. Truly worthy of the Maverick heritage indeed! I don't know where I was anymore. My surroundings became pitch black. Time flowed so slowly. I felt the wind move each hair of my mane one at a time. My mind and spirit were not part of the real world anymore. They were encased in some sort of pitch black chamber. All of a sudden, a blinding flash of light engulfed my conscience. I was transported into an area where nothing but clouds existed. I just floated there in the middle of all this white fluff. Before me appeared this equine-like being, bearing large golden ribbons on his back in the shape of wings. On its forehead was a golden circle, paired with even more lines stretching sideways to form a very wing-like emblem. Where have I seen this silhouette before? The specter appeared middle-aged, probably a little older than I was. It had a long, grey mane, dangling beneath its translucent hooves. A melodious voice resonated in this void of a world, whispering to an all to familiar hymn.
The flame of hope burns brightly, and shall restore light to this land, too long concealed beneath the shadows of a blinded realm. However, for it to shine brightly today, it must rekindle the spark long lost in the past. Be that flame, Disconnection. Be the flame that will changed this future. That is when the figure closed its amber eyes, reciting some sort of inaudible incantation. "Wait! Who are you?!" I asked, reaching out towards it. The phantom opened his eyes once more, this time carrying a luminous ball between its hooves. I am to be your companion on this journey. Remember however, that I am not to be your mentor, or guide. I am not here to point the way, but to walk by your side. That is, until you reach the Gates of Time, after which you shall be set free. He blew into the orb, after which I was immediately whisked back into my somber situation.
Time to unleash some fire! I dropped my projectile a few feet in front of me. It burst into a large dome-like shape. All these flying embers did what I expected them to: repel the guards. The flames, famished for destruction, devoured the cloak given to me by Silver. Finally, my metallic wings were set free. I spread them far and wide, covering at least twice my physical length.
"You've messed with the wrong Falsicorn" I murmured, my artificial eyes emitting a threatening, red glare.
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Scene 4 Act 1 Part 3 (Disconnection)
My head is pounding... Why is my head pounding? Why is my body aching so much right now? Everything's gone dark... Something's burning. Is it me? "You were drugged." I heard somepony say. Who's talking? "They shot you in the back with this little marvel. Luckily, I was able to clean up after your mess." That voice... It sounds too high-pitched to be that of a colt. Is it you, Ai?
"Having too much fun? I expected a party, and at parties, there's always that one guest that drugs another with a good ol' magic pill. I'd have to say this: you've got quite the flare for the dramatic. If I knew any better, I'd say that you possess a true kindling passion for thrills." Now's not the time to make jokes Silver. If I can only bring myself to opening my eyes... "Oh I'm sorry! It seems like I've forgotten about your eyes. Yes, you see; they are covered in ashes." What?! "Luckily, Ai has brought you a remedy, while I was too busy escorting our taser-happy buddies of of here. So much for undercover then."
"Now, you might feel a little pain," he went on, "but I assure you that it will not last longer than a millisecond. Unless, of course, you make it difficult for me." What does that even mean? "Steady now. Don't move!" Hey, wait a minute! You sound kind of different. "Oh? Is it the voice? Sorry, I've been trying to hide my Canterlot accent, in fear that you would not understand me. I must have been doing an awful job anyways." Actually, I don't know what it is about you, but everything you say fills my heart with trust. There's something in your voice, telling me you've seen it all. Maybe that's why you're never surprised by anything?
Silver said nothing, having stopped fiddling around with whatever he was concocting. "Did I say something wrong?" I finally asked. Silence. He sprayed something in my eyes, and I collapsed to the floor, trying to squeeze out the pain somehow. And just like that, the pain vanished as suddenly as it came. I could see again. The grey colt sat there, seemingly mourning. Ai was nowhere to be seen. All around me were organic feathers of varying sizes. There were two variations in color: some where pure white, while others were of a light violet hue, fading to a rosy, pink color towards the edges. They certainly didn't belong to me, considering they were real feathers.
Actually, these purple ones remind me of Ai's fur coat. In fact, I've never seen her take off that maid uniform she is required to wear, not even for public appearances. "Have you ever wondered why things are the way they are, no matter how hard you tried to change them?" I heard somepony speak behind me. "Tell me; what do you think of this world?" I turned around. Silver just sat there motionless. His mane covered his entire face. Crystal clear tears slid down his cheeks, landing gracefully onto a deprived ground, like rain in the desert. It was the first time I saw him like this. Normal ponies would only see a grown colt weeping. However, I saw something else. I can't quite explain it either...
"Analysis complete sir!" cried Ai from behind. She held a small, pen-like dart in her hooves. "What shall we do sir?"
"Destroy it. Erase it from this world. Crush it to pieces, until there is absolutely nothing left of it!" For the first time, his voice was filled with rage. This was anger on a whole other level. "It never should have been here in the first place!" Ai placed the metallic object beneath her hoof, attempting to smash it to bit. I decided to help a bit. Just a tiny spark...
"Stand back." I ordered. She didn't budge. "I said stand back!" I don't know what this thing is, but for some reason, my blood is boiling. I can't even control my hooves anymore, my eyesight gone red with anger. The crowd seems to have long dispersed. Finally, nothing can hold me back now. The closer I was to the dart, the blurrier, and the more red it became. I was within less than a foot of it. Now, all I see of red and white scribbles. My head is just pounding louder and louder. What is this force trying to pull me back?! No... I will not turn back! I will not be used like this! I WILL NOT BE A SPECIMEN TO YOUR LITTLE GAMES!!!
"Are you alright there, DIsconnection?" Huh? Silver? Why can I hear you now? I tried getting up, but gravity threw me back down. "You're losing a lot of blood, stop!" One more time... I have to get up just one more time... "Enough Disconnection! You'll dislodge your bones!" Huh? What are you talking about? Why did everything go dark suddenly? "The drugs are still in effect Silver! What do we do?"
"I don't think he can distinguish reality from delusion anymore. Here, hand me the red syrup." answered her master. Will the both of you stop shaking me around?! "This is bad master! He's having some sort of seizure! You sure about this? The red syrup is forbidden for a reason." she exclaimed. I tried punching her in the face, just so she could shut up. Failure yet again it seems. How about now? No? How about this? No... This then! No? Seriously guys... Will you two just stop shaking me? Are you trying to spin me around as well? And where is all that light coming from? It feels like I'm watching a freaking twister from underneath.
"Syrup, now!" Wait a minute, what are you shoving down my throat? What are you doing Silver? What are you d...
"There we go! He's fine now, you see? What did I tell you about trusting me, Ai?" Wait a minute, I'm in front of the fountain again! Looks like my eyesight is fixed, and I don't feel dizzy anymore. "What happened to me?" I asked the two
"You were still under the effects of the drugs they used. Out of the blue, you were just wailing on that little dart over there. See it, or at least what's left of it? The pieces of steels started tearing through your skin, and you just kept punching them relentlessly. Eventually, they got stuck underneath the skin of your arms, and just sliced right through the topmost layers of skin from underneath. Then..."
"Okay, too much information Silver!" I interrupted. "Glad to see you're back to normal Flames," he added. I'm just glad you're not crying anymore Silver. Still, can you tell Ai to show me some form of empathy? "I'll work on that," he added. We both laughed.
"That was quite the performance you put on there, Flames," said a voice from behind. I jumped up in surprise, too afraid to turn around. It was deep, scruffy, and had no positive connotations attached to it. "I bow before you, Flames of Fate." Reluctantly, I peeked over my shoulder. There were two masked ponies at the speaker's side, all covered in a bloody red armor, all bearing a white, faceless theater mask. Whoever had chosen to speak to me came closer. I could see nothing underneath that black hooded cape of his. It was outlined in a bloodier red than that of the armors his companions/minions boar. However, my sharp cat eyes detected minuscule symbols, written in some sort of ancient language sown over the red outline.
"Citizen name: Disconnection Maverick. Occupation: History Major and author of fiction novels such as 'Desert' and 'Empty Days.' Lives entirely off his revenues, and family inheritance. Teaches for fun at schools all across the islands, and is most irritated by those who aren't willing to learn." I backed away, surprised by what he knew. He had no script, and nopony telling him what to say. All this information about me; could somepony have tipped him off? Ai and Silver quickly came to mind. Nah, it can't be. their body language; how they too are backing away is just too real. This level of trust, established oh so fast. I can't really explain what it is, but it just is.
"I'm surprised you even survived the poison. It was scientifically engineered to kill within ten minutes, causing intense burst of violence, designed to kill anyone within a ten meter radius. Then again, I guess your little friends are a quite special, aren't they?" Silver stepped in front of Ai, protecting her with his own body. "Anyways, I digress; welcome to the Surface, Neo-Equestrian."
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Scene 4 Act 2 Part 1 (Lavender)
The train ride to Ponyville was a long one, but I had sunken too deep into my thoughts to care. I still can't believe it; all these years I spent in fear, afraid I would never even compare the Great and Powerful Twilight Sparkle, scared I was chasing a blind and hopeless dream. Now, Celestia suddenly tells me I am the Element of Magic, and commission me with the important task of reawakening these precious beauties. There's something strange I notice about this ride; nopony is on board, save for the usual staff. Weird, I thought Ponyville would be a pretty popular destination, considering it was Twilight's Sparkle's home. Sigh... Yet again with Twilight...
Let's see... What happened since that night? Hmm... For starters, Celestia finally gave me permission to exit Canterlot, fully confident in my abilities. She gave me a travel bag just before I left, fully packed with everything I would need: train tickets, a map, compass, scarf, and satellite tracker. She warned me about that last one, saying it won't work in the wilderness. Although I appreciate her affectionate touch, I cannot understand for the life of me why the Princesses care so much. It can't just me my role as the Element of Magic. What were they hiding, and what role do I truly play in whatever this plan of theirs is? Hmm? What's this on the map? Huh... Celestia put this huge red cross over the mountains. Why would I need to go there? Wait a minute... There's some sort of fine print underneath! Hang on... "Draco Clavus;" Dragon Spike in Latin.
Finally, the train has stopped. I long grew tired of this ride, for it was too simple for my tastes. There were no drinks, food or anything really; just a boring old train. In fact, this whole town seems boring and old. Unlike Canterlot, which has a more "Steampunk" mixed with a hint of medieval look to it, this town was entirely old fashioned. The buildings are what I would expect from an old medieval village: rooftops of hay and wood, standing on a foundation of ebony and stone. Nothing about this place felt artificial; remaining ever so true to its traditions. I feel like I've stepped into another world; a better, simpler world. I absolutely love it.
Finally, walking on a road of battered earth, inhaling the scent of many sweet flowers and freshly grown fruit. There was just as much noise as in Canterlot, yet every aspect of it felt different. It was calm, comforting, soothing, and most of all, welcoming. Nopony was a stranger in these parts; nopony but me. I can help but feel uneasy. I can see them in the corner of my eye; they're all staring at me, immobilized by surprise and awe. At least, that's what I think it is. Why else would they be gawking? As far as I'm concerned, they don't know I'm the Element of Magic. I mean, it's not like it's imprinted on my forehead, is it?
Anyways, enough of that! First thing's first; eating. Let's see... I've heard of this place called Sugarcube Corner, where they apparently sell Equestria's best pastries. Let's see... Right around this corner, then turn left, and... Ah, here I am! I've read about this place in Twilight's journals. I even saw some pictures she took of this place. Looks like nothing's changed; it still looks like a gingerbread house. I pushed open the doors, greeted by the graceful sound of a beautiful murano glass wind-chime, molded as a light blue mockingbird.
"Welcome to Sugarcube Corner! Pound Cake isn't feeling too well, so Creme had to go fetch some groceries. I'm her sister Angel Cake! How can I help you?" She was a little younger than me, but much cheerier. A azure eyes twinkled so bright, even her long, golden mane couldn't obscure their shine. Thinking about her mane reminds me of mine, and why I have this overly-complicated hairstyle and tiara. If one were to completely untie my mane, then they could probably wrap me once in it. I've tried cutting it, but to no avail, instantly growing back, never shorter, never longer. It's just the way it is, it seems.
"Hello! Umm... I'd like to have some... Uh... Why are you looking at me like that?" She just kept staring at me, uncomfortably close , squinting her eyes along the way. "Dad!" she screamed. "Is this the 'Twilight' you were alking about?" Huh? Wait, what?! I'm not Twilight! "Coming dear..." I heard an old voice mumble. The colt had to be in his late fifties to early sixties. He looked very sickly. Angel went to his aid, handing him his glasses.
"Oh my!" he shouted, astonished. "Could the stories be true?"
"I'm sorry sir, but what stories?" Nothing. He just kept on mumbling to himself. I decided to use some magic so I could amplify his words in my head. "No way... But her husband left for battle so long ago! Hmm... Maybe that's why she returned to the Princess. Yes... Applejack and Pinkie Pie were growing to old to help her out of this dire situation, so she returned to the Princess. Pinkie told me all about it before she passed away herself."
Hang on, does he know something about me? What is he trying to say? "I'm sorry for that inconvenience," apologized Angel, "father seems to recognize someone else in your eyes. May I serve you a cup of tea? Tea is on the house." I nodded in approval. The skies were getting dark already. I wondered just how long I had been on that damned train. "Excuse me, miss Cake; can you tell me why there seem to be so few visitors around here? I thought ponyville would be more popular than this." She came back with a teapot, and two cups. Using her frail magic skills, she tried pouring me a cup. "It's alright, I'll take over now." For some odd reason, my magic was coated in a sapphire blue glow. "Thank you miss," replied Angel, sitting down before me.
"You see, we used to have plenty of visitors. However, a colossal dragon showed up one day on the mountains, terrorizing everypony her since." I looked at her, confused. "Did it ever attack?" She shook her head. "Did it ever cause any harm?" She shook her head again. "Occasionally, however, its fiery breath completely obscure the skies, even in the middle of the day."
I looked at the map Celestia gave me, and pointed at the mountains. Angel shook her head in approval. "Those are the ones," she added. Draco Clavus. Dragon Spike. A dragon which suddenly appeared. Fiery breath. Journals... Mistaking me for Twilight... No, mistaking me for something related to Twilight. Twilight... Journals... Princesses... Twilight... Draco Clavus... Dragon Spike...
"Spike..." I said, finishing my cup of tea before leaving towards the mountains.
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Scene 4 Act 2 Part 2 (Lavender)
Ack... My head hurts... Why does my head hurt? What the heck did I do last night? Hang on... Memory's coming back... I remember now! The townsfolk warned me about the timberwolves, lurking about under the moonlit skies. Darn it! Why can't I listen to others more often?! Hold on... Brain still hurts... Got it! When I stepped into the open, inside some sort of clearing, they ambushed me with their vicious teeth and sharp claws. I have no idea what happened after that. All I can remember is the pain, and futility of my struggle... Each time I killed one, two others came. Eventually, I ran out of magic energy, yet they only grew even more restless. What I saw in their eyes... All that hate and loneliness, unable to trust anything, including each other. I heard their howling pleas, as I had been left with no other choice but to bludgeon them face to face. Skulls were crushed, and blood had been shed. Too preoccupied with themselves, those ruthless timberwolves took no time to mourn their comrades. Once lifeless, they to had become a nuisance. They too were being torn to pieces: a feast for the starving.
Speaking of wounds, how badly hurt am I? If only I can gather enough strength to escape the nightmare, and open my eyes. Hang on... Just a little more... Crap.. My limbs hurt pretty badly. I must be covered in scars and cuts. Wait a second... Why is the ground fluffy? What's that in my mouth? Ack! Feathers?! Fueled by a sudden burst of energy, I jumped up, ready for anything. Turns out, I wasn't even in the forest anymore, but rather in some sort of caravan. Underneath my hooves lay a fluffy pile of feathers, arranged together as some sort of bed. Sunlight pierced through the thick cloth roof. I had to cover my eyes for a moment, my being still in shock. When I did however, I noticed something missing; pain, blood, and scars. I bit myself just to make sure I was still alive. Ouch! Yep, I still am. So then, where are the scars? What about the blood? I'm sure they did more than scratching me a little. And... And... Is that apple pie I smell?
"Ah! So you're awake, miss Lavender," exclaimed an outside voice. "Come out and have some pie." I stepped off the pile of feathers, and out the wooden frame in which they were kept. The vehicle itself was spacious enough to fit at least two, yet compact enough to be carried around. I stumbled upon a small wooden table, along with a few cabinets nailed to the ebony plank walls. Looking up one last time, I noticed a small, nearly transparent film. I've heard of it before; one would stick it beneath some sort of fabric, instantly rendering it impermeable. Enough of that; I need to go outside.
Right away, the bright morning sun wasted no time blinding me with its splendor. The air possessed a certain chill to it; a feeling I had never felt before in my life. Where was I? Hmm... It smells like apple pie alright. I took the time to properly awaken, rubbed my eyes for a second, and surveyed my horizons. All around, trees covered the land for miles and miles. Below me stood a rugged cliff, a couple hundred meters high; the mountain's edge. I backed away, horrified an sick. It was just like looking down from the watchtowers back in Canterlot. I can handle looking at the horizon, but staring straight down makes me sick. It's like staring gravity in the eyes, while it quietly awaits your temptation, you inevitable fall from high grounds.
"So, miss Lavender? Have you recovered yet?" I recognized that voice! Yes; nopony else could fake such an English accent! I turned to him, an old merchant friend of mine, who used to visit all the time when I was little. Each time he came, he always presented the Princesses and I with a gift, before we would run along on an evening stroll together, as I listened to his stories about the lands far beyond Canterlot's walls. For all these years, I never knew his name. For all these years, his appearance hasn't changed a bit. For all these years, I've called him "grandpa..." Then, one day, he never came back...
"Well?" asked the merchant, "do you still like apple pies?" I tried speaking, despite still being in shock. My lips would not move, still sealed shut. He really hadn't changed at all; same grey coat and silver mane, which covered his right eye. I knew he already saw it in me; years of memories, buried by the flow of time just whisked by faster than words could ever describe. He just stood there, immobile, with a pie in his hooves. "Grandpa..." I muttered, unable to hold the tears back anymore.
"Hiya kiddo," he replied, putting down the pastry aside, welcoming me with open hooves.
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Scene 4 Act 2 Part 3 (Lavender)
I had already asked him what happened last night and how he found me. After all, he left well over eight years ago. Still, I remember everything there was to know about him; all but his name, which he never told me. He explained that yesterday, he came back from a long voyage across the world, and realized he had some spare time on his hands before the next errand. So, gramps told me he went into the forest to pick some lavender plants (oh the irony...), and weave a crown out of them as a gift to me. Suddenly, he heard cries in the distance, and found me collapsed by a nearby tree. I asked him about the timberwolves, but he swore there were absolutely none. It was just me, covered in my own blood and sweat, passed out on the chilling grass, very sickly and weak, perhaps even a hint of hypothermia.
"But no timberwolves?" I asked. He shook his head. "Nothing; just you, and the ground." I scratched my head, puzzled. How could that be? I'm convinced I had a fight last night. Then again, my surprising lack of injuries... "So," he asked, "you never got to finish that story, did you?" He looked into my sparkling eyes. At this point, I was unable to hold back my gleeful smile. Teary eyed, I jumped into his open hooves. After all these years away, having seen everything there was to see, and yet he still remembers my story... I just couldn't hold myself back anymore. He remembers my story...
"Of course I'd remember," he whispered into my ears, stroking my mane. "How could I forget such an ambitious child like you?" I tightened my grip around him. We sat there for quite some time. "Gramps," I finally muttered, "what's your name?" I heard a chuckle, before he burst out laughing. "Over the years, I've been known under many names. You can call me whatever you want, my dear." I tightened my grip even more. "Hmph! Please... Loosen up a little..." I let him go, looking up at his face. He dismissed all my worries with a simple smile. "Silver..." I whispered. "Can I call you Silver?" He turned away for a mere moment, already lost in thought.
"Silver, huh? Hmm... That's a very nice name! It's pretty easy to remember, isn't it?" He winked at me. I have no idea just how old he is, or what he has seen over the years. Yet, despite my dire lack of knowledge, I still trusted him. I would trust him with my life, if I had to. All those tales you spoke of, along with all those places you carved into my imagination; you were the only doors to the outside world. I wanted to see them all as a foal. I wanted to explore Equestria with my own two eyes. I wanted to live. In the end, it looks like I'm the one who forgot...
"So, what was it again? Ah yes! When you were just a little filly, you used to tell me you wanted to be an Alicorn all the time! Now, at least ten years later, mind I ask why?" He read me like an open book. Almost, if not probably more than ten years have passed, yet now more than ever, I realize I haven't changed a bit. I now understand why I wanted to be an Alicorn, why I told him the stories I spoke.
"You've figured it out, huh?" I replied, unable to look up. "Looks like I haven't changed at all..." There was a brief moment of silence. I took a deep breath, and resumed my response. "I always thought Alicorns were special; that they were greater than most of us. Somehow, my subconscious would relate to Celestia and Luna, even at such a young age." He put his hoof beneath my chin, and pushed upwards, staring me in the irises. I chuckled as he let go. "The Alicorn is just a metaphor, Silver. I thought having both a horn and a pair of wings would make me special. I honestly believed I was above anypony else. Whether that was childish innocence, or foul arrogance, I did not know. Nowadays, when I look back at those doodles I drew for you, I realize it was the latter."
"I've been a selfish bitch all along. I've shut myself in, determined to be the very best. I always wanted to be better than The Great and Powerful Twilight. Every passing day, all I ever aimed for was the top. But now... With all that the Princess has said... Once you've reached the top, what else is there to aim for?" I rocked my head backwards, staring straight at the bright sun of mid-day. "Do you believe in Angels?" I asked. Silver merely laughed, and brushed off my question like it was nothing.
"I believe in many things," he finally replied, "and Angels are only part of it. I've seen it all, young lady!" He sporadically spread his hooves wide open, letting the sunshine rain upon his mane. Finally, I saw his right eye. Either he had some sort of white eyeliner on, or he really was that special. In fact, I never noticed the white eyelid before. Was I just that blind?
"What do you think it takes to become an Angel?" I dared to ask. He smiled at me, his eyes still shut tightly. Something about his expression indicated content beyond words; a sort happiness beyond what the mortal spirit could feel. "Many things, my dear Lavender! Many things!" The silver threads on his hair danced in the breeze. It almost seemed like cords of a harp, strumming a delicate, yet familiar tune to my ears. A certain chill filled my eyes: tears, lots of them, rustling down my pure, untouched cheeks. There was no makeup, no nothing; just me in my own skin.
"Are you willing to make sacrifices, Lavender?" His question caught me off guard. "Are you willing to toss away everything you've lived for, just to become something greater?" No answer. "Well?" he added.
"I've got nothing worth living for so far. Becoming something beyond mortality seems like a viable option right now." It was the first time I ever heard Silver snicker.
"Oh really now? Tsk. Ah well! What can you do? Even the most delicate, well bred of roses has to have come from a seed. I'm sure your answer to that question shall change someday. Until then, carry on with your journey, my dear little protegee!" He waved me off, tossing me a candy cane.
"I really haven't change, haven't I?" Silver shrugged from afar, packing up, and cleaning up my mess. I grabbed my backpack, and went along on my journey.

Afterthought: Silver (Warning: 1st person POV)
With a sheer gust of wind, I blew off the ashes of the leftover flames off a nearby hill. Honestly, after all these years, Lavender still leaves such a crummy mess for me to clean up. Not that I'm complaining, of course. Sigh... How long long has it been since I last met somepony like her? Hmm... "Oh well," I added, shrugging. "Time flies by so fast when you're me." Still, that glow in her eyes told me everything I needed to know. From the day I met her, I knew she was one of the three. Even if disguised as a young, arrogant, distraught filly, I acknowledged strength and skill beyond mortality. It just so happens that she is the third incarnation of your power, Crystal. The third of a Trinity of three...
Why is it so bright today? I didn't know the mighty sun could shine so brightly! Oh wait... It's just me. I put my right hoof over my forehead, and pressed downwards. It surely took a while, but at long last, the bright flashes were gone. I hate it when it does that. Then again, can I truly hate? Hmm... As long as I'm in this form; as long as I choose to live, I might as well act like them. Still, prudence is at hand. One wrong move, and even I could die. It would surely be ironic, wouldn't it? Would I be like you, Crystal? If I were to die, would my spirit wander the place between the worlds for eternity, already seeking the ideal source of life? Hmm... How miserable that sounds. I guess you're determination to meet the Mighty Celestia again kept you strong all these years! Still, what if I died? Is that even possible to die twice? Nah, I'm probably over-thinking this.
I was done cleaning up. However, something strange, shining in the distance caught my eye. I walked towards whatever the object might have been. Upon further inspection, I realized it was a pure, snow white feather. How did this get here? More importantly, am I shedding already? Huh... Shedding as this hour is surely unexpected. Must be the heat! Yeah... The heat! Nah... It can't be. Is it you, calling upon me? What is it? Ah, so you want to know how she is doing, right? Tsk. Rest assured, Lady Sparkle; she's doing fine. Yes, you and I have a different definition of fine. I understand you absolutely can't stand seeing her tortured like this. I assure you, however, that one day, she will be strong. I assure you, Lady Sparkle, there is nothing to worry about. Can't you feel it? Can't you feel this wind of change?
Huh... It seems to me like you've been too busy with your studies. As usual... If I told Celestia this, I can guarantee she will tell me you haven't changed a bit. Although, there would probably be a half-hour of tears shortly after! What?! No, I'm for torturing the Princess. Be glad there's no one on this mountain right now. They'd think I'm crazy, talking to myself. Mortals could never see what my eyes have seen. In fact, why don't you come down here? No, I'm not opening the portal! You're an Alicorn now! You've ascended to a greater platform; one above that of mortality. You do it!
"Honestly," I heard a voice speak behind me, "I've never seen anypony lazier than you are. Even Rainbow Dash had more stamina than you!" I turned around, my mane blown aside by a strong vortex of wind. I had to lay flat on the rock, and clench onto something hard, just so I wouldn't be blown away. Once the twister had passed, I saw a figure emerge from the falling leaves, and whatever leftover ash there was. Her coat was a lush, violet hue. In the middle of her dark purple mane was a stroke of light red, nearing a darker shade of pink. She wore a beautiful golden crown on her head, along with a large pendant-like jewel in the shape of a six-side star around her neck.
"Aren't you going to get up?" she asked, approaching my still body. "Nope, too lazy," I managed to mutter. Emitting some sort of powerful magic from her large, violet horn, she lift me up from, and force me to stand on my four hooves. "You lazy person... Why are you even like this?! You could have come here in any form possible, and you chose and Earth Pony?!"
"Do you have something against Earth Ponies," I retorted, "I'm sure your two earth pony friends would love to have a word or two with you. That is, unless they've succumbed to the greatness of their new forms." She flat out slapped me in the face. I merely laughed, still limp and somewhat tired.
"More importantly, umm..." She couldn't finish her sentence. "What do you call yourself now?"
"Silver," I replied, "I like that name. Methinks I should stick with it." She turned her head away from me, trying to hide her tears.
"She gave it to you, didn't she?" I nodded. "You know what you've missed, Sparkle?" Surprised, she faced me once more, glaring. "That feather I just picked up," I continued. "I realize now that it is not mine. It is none other than hers! Look at the trail over there. See it?! That's the trail she took upon leaving this place. That path, my dear, has feathers on it, leading all the way up the mountain. What do you make of this? After all, I recall Lavender being a Unicorn, right?"
The Alicorn before me said nothing. I ran back into my caravan, and brought back a small, sepia photograph. "Remember this? That's her. That's how you wanted her to be; just like you. That's the reason you gave her to Celestia! You were too weak to take care of her, and her father died years ago! You knew this would happen! You knew she would see Celestia and Luna as goddesses, as beings far more sophisticated than mortals, yet despite that, you still did it!" It was my turn to glare into her eyes.
"You knew of her arrogance, and yet still gifted her to two Alicorn role models. She inherited your wits alright, but developed that particular trait of her own. Reading all those stories between you and that blue mare, how you two fought relentlessly, could only fuel her drive for impossible power. Gifted at birth, she wanted nothing more than to ascend. Each day, she versed herself in the magical arts. Nopony could stop her, just as nopony could stop you back then."
"Unlike you, however, she is nowhere as kind or caring. You know why?" I pointed at the picture, my hoof over the image of a you foal, tucked into the arms of her mother. "You had friends. You were given a chance, a key to the outside world. She had none of those things. Of course, there were the Princesses, but I'm convinced that didn't help the slightest bit. Over the years I spent in that castle, watching her grow, and stray away from society. It's a wonder she can still talk to normal ponies. Each day and night, confined inside her own mind, she ascended higher, and higher."
"However, she never considered one crucial thing; once at the top, what else is there to reach for?" I added, pointing upwards.
"The Angels above; the kingdom beyond mortal vision."
I guess it was just too much for the violet Alicorn to take. She vanished as swiftly as she came. This time, I did not budge, despite the strong wind. After a brief moment, there was nothing left of her. I stood there, silent, solemn.
"Are you going to be the one to break it to her? Are you going to tell her the cruel truth, or will she have to be crushed by it herself?" I picked up the photograph, and read what it said on the back: "In loving memory of Twilight Sparkle, who died at age 68. May her soul rest in peace." I snickered at the thought. I knew the violet Alicorn was aware of it too. In fact, that was the only reason she and her friends didn't ascend any higher.
"The ultimate sacrifice; the one thing you need to give up to become an Angel, a thing far too precious for you to surrender: the memories of the life you lived."
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Scene 5 Act 1 Part 1 (Disconnection)
I stepped in front of Silver and Ai, shielding them with my wings. The strange colt advanced without hesitation, almost daring us to oppose him. We stood alone in the open. Everypony had somehow gone into hiding. I thought I would never see empty city streets, yet here we were, the three of us against the three of them. A chilling wind whisked by, as the stranger drew closer.
"You certainly are interesting, Neo-Equestrian." I swallowed my saliva, nervous. He knew too much too fast. In fact, even my hosts didn't know that much about me. When I peeked backwards, Silver and Ai had mysteriously vanished. The ground on which they once stood was littered with crystalline feathers. Aware of my situation, I nodded in acquiescence. One of the masked ponies placed a small, black box in front of me, while the other handed some sort of scroll over to his master. My legs shook uncontrollably, but was it because of the cold, or because of fear? Out of nowhere, the trio unsheathed hidden weapons from their cloaks. My wings sprung wide open, glimmering underneath the impossible sunlight.
In a surprising twist of events, they bowed before me, executing a reverence similar to that of knights before their king. Afterwards, each one of them placed their weapons at my hooves. One of the masked equines nervously pushed the box forwards. His master slapped him shortly after. Who the heck do they think I am?
"We are honored by your presence, Flames of Fate. Together with your power, we may finally right the wrongs of this land." What were they talking about? Right the wrongs of the land? Again, who do they think I am?
"Didn't you just try to poison me just now?! You honestly expect me to believe in your lies?! Answer me! Who they heck are you ponies?!" My demands caused them to cower even lower. Already, they were on their bellies. This sudden change in their attitude seemed to sporadic to be true. I vowed to extract every ounce of truth from their skulls before anything else happens.
"It was Master's idea!" quickly replied one of the masked ponies. My artificial eyes sent a lightning fast signal to my brain. Faster than what was naturally possible, I stood in their way, parrying the Master's oncoming beating.
"On the ground, now! You tried to poison me, and now you want my help?!" The sharp edges of my wing hovered ominously over his neck. "Face to face, you're worthless it seems... Now then, explain yourself or else I'll rip your vocal cords from your still breathing neck!" Yeah... Sometimes, my cat-eyes send too strong of a signal to my brain. Often times, this generates a sporadic change in mood. While it may theoretically be beneficial, these mood swings were almost always violent and aggressive.
"Let him go..." pleaded the masked pony. It was the second time she spoke. Judging by the pitch of her muffled voice, I assumed it was most likely a mare underneath that mask.
"Speak, and I shall let you live." I think that last threat got rid of my surplus. My wings once again folded inwards, mimicking with pristine perfection the retraction process of actual wings. They were just as fast too, if not slightly speedier at their job.
"We are part of the Citadel. Our job is to know everything about everyone: upstairs and here. After reports on the Outer Rim about a fallen Falsicorn, we were sent in to investigate. Using leftover DNA on the scene, the Motherboard linked the reports to you, Flames."
Hearing the master's story provided me with some ease, yet not enough to justify his sudden behavioral change. In fact, the more I look at these three, the more I question their true intents. The masked equines always subtly distance themselves from him. While I can't trust their leader's words completely, something about the other two clicked with me.
"Why did you say the poison was supposed to kill me?" I demanded to know.
"Because it was. Security doesn't know or care about who you are; they shoot without question."
"Shoot first; ask questions later, I presume?" I added snarlingly.
"One last question: what do you know of Silver and Ai?"
He looked at me, puzzled by the question.
"Who are Silver and Ai?"
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Scene 5 Act 1 Part 2 (Disconnection)
How is that even possible? How can he not remember who Silver and Ai were? Why? They were standing there just a second ago! And what was that they said about them being special? Ack... I feel a little lightheaded...
Upon closer inspection, I noticed a white feather at the our hooves. However, while theirs seem to be glowing, mine quickly flew away in the wind. It was all so strange. I think I can safely assume common sense has been thrown out the window at this point. Just what had I gotten myself into?
"When you say you can change the world with my power, what do you mean?" No answer. Something about them changed. Their figures subtly rocked back and forth, side to side. No longer did I feel their menacing glare. Eventually, the two in the back collapsed. Their leader tried to remain standing. Unfortunately, all four of his legs gave in as well.
"What's going on?" I wondered, lightheaded. My surroundings began to pixelate. Kaleidoscopic spots appeared here and there. These patches of various colors popped one by one, emitting a sound similar to bursting bubbles. I stepped forth with my right leg, trying to even out my center of gravity. Once again, voices echoed in my head. This time however, there were two instead of one. Little by little, my senses slipped away. It was only a matter of time before I too collapsed face first.
***
Huh? Where am I? Am I still dreaming or something? The voices in my head... Yes, I can hear their speech... Yet somehow, I seem to have forgotten the meaning of their words... What are they saying? I can hear them clearly, but I don't understand what they are saying. Wait... Now there's more than one. Hmm... At least three beings speaking. That pitch... If there are only three, then two must be female. What about that last one? Sounds like a male... Actually, it sounds familiar to me... That voice... It can't be...
What are you three saying? What?! I can't hear you anymore... Are you three trying to warn me about something? Something... Something... A warning about something... I don't get it: what something?!
Hang on... Yes! Your words are finally within hearing! But... No... Gaps... There are gaps within your sentences. What are you trying to tell me now? Something... Something about time... Time is changing... The wind is changing... Time... Time is changing...
Ack... If only I could distinguish my surroundings! My limbs are numb right now... If only I could reach forwards, and hiot the lights... Heh... Hit the lights... That's funny...
Warning... What are you trying to warn me about? Hang on... Something... Something about time changing... History isn't the same... Hope? What hope? What history? About to clear her name? Who?! Who is about to clear their name? A pony... A pony of Sparkle blood... A pony with limitless potential... A greedy pony... A future Angel? What are you saying about Angels?! That doesn't make any sense!
What the heck is going on here?! Why can't I see?! What is this babble about Angels?! Who is "she?" This feeling... Something about history changing... Something about a pony clearing her name... What's the 'Sparkle bloodline?' Fake Elements of Harmony? Clones?
"What the crap is all this junk about?!"
***
"Are you alright back there?"
Huh? Wait... What?! Where am I? What the heck is this?!
It took some time for me to come back to my senses. I inspected my surroundings. Apparently, we were in some kind of high-speed train, traveling very fast somewhere underground. I turned to the side, only to bounce back startled by the presence of those two masked equines. Their getup seems unchanged, and so are their proportions. I think it's a safe bet to assume they are the same ones as earlier.
"Sorry about that!" interrupted the engineer. He bore a traditional outfit: some sort of v-shaped royal blue vest, buttoned around his neck. The colt also wore a typical pilot hat.
"Earlier, there was a gas leak in the city. It must have knocked the four of you out cold. Fortunately, somepony else from the Citadel got worried about the Black Triad, and decided to go out and look for you."
"So, it seems like you are the Flames of Fate!" he commented, pointing his hoof at me.
"Don't worry, the train knows how to drive itself. Look! See the bright banners of light passing by? Ahem... Sorry about that..."
"Anyways, the others woke up before you did. You were just lying there, tossing and turning. You were also mumbling something in your sleep, but none of us understood what you said."
Woah there fella! You're talking too fast to someone who's just woken up. Wait... Then does that mean the voices weren't real? No... Can't be... The first time I heard voices in my head was when I fell through the clouds. Speaking of which, how did I fall through the Barrier in the first place? Hmm...
Also, the voice I heard the first time was far more mean-spirited. If I recall correctly, I think it was threatening me about something too. This time however, I heard multiple beings speak. None of them sounded the least bit threatening. Hang on...
"Why are we underground?" I curiously asked.
"Oh," exclaimed the engineer, surprised, "you don't know?! Well... It's because the surface is forbidden and dangerous."
Surface? What could he possibly be referring to by "forbidden" and "dangerous?" I've been there, haven't I? Unless there's more to it than what I actually saw. Hmm... The impossible sunlight! How could there be sunlight in a world covered by a cloud barrier?
"Anyways, we're almost there, Flames. Let me tell you right now: this world is filled with secrets, lies, and deceit. Most of what you saw, and what you have yet to see, cannot be trusted. The sun above out heads most certainly isn't real. So then, what could it be?"
He cleared his throat through a cough or two.
"The impossible truth, Flames. You're clueless and weak right now. You'll be very easy to fool. Two things: trust your gut, and trust us. Always, always, under any and every circumstance: trust us with your life."
"And who are you?" I demanded to know. Amidst my confusion emerged fear. He silenced me by placing his hoof over my mouth.
"In the middle of all this, there's only one thing you need to ask yourself: are you ready to change the world?"

"Before you leave," added the engineer, "take this." He tossed me an identification card, along with a note signed by a certain "Ominous."
"That's a temporary ID card. I've programmed your name into the Citadel's system. The system will recognize you as a high rank researcher, a veteran of the firm."
He scouted his surroundings, making sure nopony else was listening in. Once the train had stopped, the two masked ponies just suddenly vanished. Not a single trace of them or their leader remained, as if they had never been there in the first place. Finally, the train conductor sighed in relief.
"When you go upstairs, you might be a little surprised by just how big the place is. However, do not stand there like a moron gawking. That'll certainly attract unnecessary attention. The last thing you want to do is jeopardize this opportunity."
"Go straight down past the main dome, and climb into the first elevator you see. Anyone you choose will work. Scan your ID, and it'll take you to the research facility. That's where you want to go."
"Why would I do that?" I questioned him suspiciously. "Why would I trust your words?"
He chuckled in amusement, mocking my apparent ignorance.
"How stupid of you... Don't you know yet? The Flames of Fate can indeed change the world: for better or for worse. The three that brought you here want to run experiments on you, all to test the extent of the power behind the Flames."
"Fortunately, the hopeless pair of minions left you behind with me, while they carried away their master to the infirmary. Now, I've hid for far too long in this wretched place. But with your help... We could truly change the world for the better!"
"The Surface is corrupt. The Surface is dirty. The Surface consists of nothing but pain and misery. I heard the Equalizers overthrew Celestia's daughter, the rightful Queen, and soon after assimilated everything to reach their ultimate goal: their absolute ideal."
Curious, I asked what would that be. For a moment, the intensity of his glare paralyzed me. I quietly watched the horror suffering etched in his deep, dark, black eyes roll by like an old-school film.
"They've created the Perfect Heaven above: a land where everybody lives equally and are seemingly happy. Those who oppose the rules are sent down here to the Surface, where dreadful, soulless beings known as ErazerBots capture, and kill all rebels in a bloody arena match."
"In some cases, when the rare emergence of a city occurs, everypony is biologically wired to the Citadel's Motherboard, where everything about them is recorded, and kept stored somewhere far away."
I stood immobilized by fear. The sheer weight of this new burden crushed me in the brink of an instant. What had I just gotten myself into?
"Wh... Who... Who are you?" I managed to mutter.
"Somepony special: somepony who pledged to protect. And just like you, I'm friend with Silver."
On that note, he pressed a button on the control panel. The glass doors quickly shut tight. A loud, blaring siren was heard. I backed away from the bullet train, as it sped into the distance, and out of my existence.
I turned around clockwise, my back facing the magnetic rails. For some odd reason, the electromagnetism wasn't affecting my wings. I wonder why that is the case?
A pair of transparent doors slid aside. I stepped inside the tube, waiting to be whisked away by the powerful suction of the elevator. I waited for quite some time.
Eventually, the suction stopped. I stepped out the glass doors, overwhelmed by the grandeur of this place before me. A large, transparent dome stood several stories above my head. Multiple circular floors twisted upwards along with the giant structure. The building itself was also divided into two wings, branching off sideways. All this empty space remained flooded by massive amounts of impossible sunlight. From my point of view, the skies shone in a lush, azure hue. Puffy, white clouds of all shapes and sizes hovered by the inexplicably present sun. Everything appeared ideal to my eyes. A little too ideal, to say the least...
Oh right, what he said earlier! I couldn't just stand here, meandering. Let me see... The elevator is just up ahead. The further I galloped, the narrower the pathway. Kaleidoscopic pulses coursed across lines engraved within the corridor's walls, similar to blood flowing inside veins. I could see my reflection everywhere, including the black, glossy floor. It was made of two layers; black tiles beneath, with an overlay of glass. Special beams separated each tile.
Alright, I'll just slide my card here, and have my hoof analyzed. Wow! It worked! I'm... I'm surprised, honestly! He wasn't lying! Fortunately enough, nopony crossed my path just yet. Quite frankly, no one seems to have noticed me and my artificial wings. How could that be? Meh. I'll leave that for another time.
The elevator inevitably stopped. Somehow, I landed underground. No longer did I feel the sunlight on my coat. Instead, a chilling breeze settled in. What an eerie place down here! Brr... So cold too... So, according to this map on the wall, there's a room down this hallways. Well, since I couldn't even decide what floor I wanted to go on, my guess is the train engineer planned all this in advance. He intended for me to go down this hallway.
Finally, an imposing steel door appeared before me. I pressed the tablet controls. It, again, scanned my hoof. Slowly, all the while emmiting a loud, obnoxious noise, the gates eerily crept aside. Hmm... The lights are off, yet I can see some sort of faint glow. You know what: that's a Cryogenesis tube! Yeah! It's one of those long cylinders the hospitals use to store the deathly ill, in order to administer the right cures! Don't scientist also use them to grow bio-genetic limbs? I know wings and horn have to look artificial, and can only be procured by licensed Blacksmiths. Still, those who lost legs, organs, and all those other bodily things can get a new, biologically compatible set implanted.
I pressed some sort of switch. A bright, white ceiling orb illuminated the whole room, revealing several more tubes: six, to be exact. Somepony had imprinted large letters to the sides, but due to the upright nature of the cylinders, I couldn't read what it said. Yet, I couldn't help but feel like I had seen those words elsewhere before.
Then, I saw something: a leftover manila envelope, with the words "TOP SECRET" imprinted in large, red letters. I unwound the string, pouring its contents onto the table. After gathering the papers, and classifying them neatly in their intended order, I peeked at their contents. Immediately, I dropped everything in horror. Those words on the cylinders weren't random; they were the names of the six most powerful wielders of the Elements of Harmony, apart from the original six, and the Princesses. Six of two earth ponies, two unicorns, and two pegasi.
The names read as follows: "Twilight Sparkle. Applejack. Pinkie Pie. Rainbow Dash. Fluttershy. Rarity."
Immediately, a bridge between two conflicting data emerged. The Citadel wanted to clone the ones referred to as the "Mane 6." That's what the voice meant by "Fake Harmony!"
Crap.
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Scene 5 Act 2 Part 1 (Lavender)
Mmm... These candy canes are delicious... It's my absolute favorite candy of all time. Ah... So sweet and hard... Melts in your mouth after a while. Mmm... That's peppermint backwash... I... Euh... Wait... What was I doing already?
Oh right! I stopped here to take a little rest. Guess I got sidetracked by the candy canes, huh? Let me see... The map says Draco Clavus is up ahead. If her journals are correct, then this "Spike" was once Twilight's lifelong assistant. Since the moment he came to life, The Great and Powerful Twilight cherished little Spike with her life. Hmm... She was a motherly figure to him, teaching little dragon Spike how to walk on two legs, even though she had four. At night, the two shared a little story time, before she tucked him in. Each time, she would kiss Spike on the forehead, wishing him good night.
Decades later, the dragon grew up. One day, he sprouted wings. Surprised by this development, Twilight requested performing some research on her "child." Obviously, Spike acquiesced. Over time, he and a certain Rarity grew closer and closer to each other. Wait a minute... Rarity?! As in Rarity, the one who founded Carousel Beauty?! I know Sweetie Belle spent her life making the company into what it is today, but still! Wow... Rarity...
I peeked into my purse, and pulled out an eyeliner stick. After turning it to the side, I took some time to let it all sink in. Wow... Rarity and Spike... The one who founded Equestria's leading beauty company... I heard it used to be a small shop in Ponyville, selling only fine dresses. Over the years, I guess she decided to expand. Nowadays, they've literally swallowed up the market. Few competitors exist in the makeup market, and are often times bought out by Carousel Beauty. In fact, my entire attire, dress, makeup and everything, consists only of Carousel Beauty products. In the clothing industry, even with the thousands of competitors, they are almost always the number one trending brand. As for makeup... Well, that's a market they rule with an iron hoof.
Amazing... I wonder what happened afterwards? I should probably keep reading Twilight's journals... Why do I even have access to these? Better question: where did I get these? Ugh... I hate that large gap childhood leaves in somepony's memories. It's like everything is covered in a thick layer of eternal fog. As far as I can remember, I've always had these journals. Each day, I dragged them around in my purse, and furthered my reading more and more. For as long as I can remember, I've been chasing this dream. I've always wanted to become as powerful and renown as Twilight. Thanks to Celestia's revelation, is it possible for me to be something greater than just "Twilight?" Hmm...
Enough of that! I have to focus on reading! Let me see... There we go! So, it seems like Twilight chronicled Spike's growth as a living being, as well as his life with Rarity. Umm... The amount of detail in these kinda creeps me out... Was Twilight stoking them? Brr...
I turned the page. At the top, "The Big Day" was written in large, black letters. Curious, I read further. Oh my... That's the day Rarity and Spike got married... Huh? A picture? With my hoof I picked up said photograph. Either somepony put this through a Sepia filter, or it was all the technology they had at the time. Was it? Probably should've paid more attention in class...
Wait a second... What just happened here? I flipped the page back and forth. No, I didn't skip over anything, yet the dates don't match. According to the text, several years had past since "The Big day." What, did Twilight just suddenly stop writing?
Ack! Too many questions! Must keep reading! Uh... Ahem. Alright, technical error of some sort aside, this is some pretty interesting content. Apparently, she explored whether or not it was genetically possible for ponies and dragons to breed. Huh... What's this over here? Are these research notes? Why did she fold them up and... Woah! That's a huge stack of papers! How did she even fold all this, compress it within her journal, all without creating a huge space in between the pages?!
Okay, so... Let me skim this real quick... Uhuh... Yeah... That makes sense... Didn't think of that! This is a little off by today's standards... Nope, but could still work... Yeah... Ah, I can see why you thought that was the case... Don't agree with that... Probably could've paid more attention in class to this...
My goodness! Accounting for the time period in which this was written, along with the fact that such things as the Internet weren't perfected as they are today, these papers are extremely well thought out! Upon closer inspection, it appears as if they were meant to be blueprints: lab procedures for some sort of experiment. Wait a second! Experiment?!
If I consider the context in which these papers were found, along with all this information she wrote, my guess is this: she helped Rarity and Spike birth a foal of their own. But then... Dragon and equine genetics are in completely separate fields. Speaking of dragons...
I flipped through the pages at lightning fast speeds. Although unable to fully process the data flying by my eyes, I did however find an answer to my questions somewhere towards the end. Due to the hypothetically shorter life expectancy of the time I believe this was written in, and also because dragons possess much longer lifespans than most beings, Rarity must have surely passed away before Spike could even become a grown adult. If that's the case, what happened to her foal(s)?
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
The crowds of people were especially large today. Obviously, today was the Eclipse Carnival; a special event when Luna and Celestia raise their appropriate stars together under the cheers and applause of the crowd. I was glad I could finally see it with my own eyes. I had been here before, many times actually, but was never able to experience it through functionning eyes.
Three years ago, I was completely blind by birth. I always had to rely on others just to guide myself. It was a frustrating reality of mine, but I had no other choice. This defect shaped my lifestyle; everything I did revolved around my faulty eyes. Over the years, I learned how to read somepony's emotions like an open book, just by their footsteps, which is very hard to do in extremely crowded places.
Everypony walks differently. It reflects one's emotions just as much as writing. Ponies who are in a rush tend to pace. Their hoofsteps clop louder than those of ponies on a casual stroll. Excitement usually leads to one stepping in place. I can hear that too. The beats are much faster than for those in a rush, and usually come from only one place. When somepony's trying to go unnoticed, their try and make the least noise possible. During large gatherings like this, there are many sets of hoofsteps, each reflecting different thoughts and feelings.
Why does such a thing matter anymore? Ever since that day, I've had real eyes. I'm not blind anymore; no need to rely on such gimmicks from now on. Finally, I can see this place with my own two eyes.
Ponies everywhere carried a lantern with them. They were made of red paper, with symbols written in pure black ink. Each character symbolized something different, but they all revolved around luck and prosperity. To think I had to learn in three years what others had been taught over a lifetime. It's a miracle I succeeded. No; it's because I am a member of the Maverick Clan that I succeeded. We were some of the most well-renown philosophers in this part of Equestria. My personal dream has always been to travel west, and settle in the faraway city of Canterlot. I heard great things about the Western cities. It's about time I go take a look for myself.
Before I could go anywhere, a little filly crossed my path. I couldn't even tell what color her fur coat and mane were, since they were covered in filth and trash. If I had to guess though, I'd say they were of a pearl white color, and a pure black hue respectively. A very frail creature she was; her legs and body almost bearing no fat. I could see her thoracic cage and ribs through layers and layers of mud. Had she been born under different conditions, maybe she could have been a beautiful lady of the court.
She knelt before me, and shakily held her hooves open, begging for some loose change. I had no idea how to respond to her demands. On one hand, agreeing seems like the most logical solution. However, if I was caught with a beggar like her, it would tarnish the Maverick name. My blindness already brought a taint of disgrace to my family.
Finally, against my will, I decided to ignore her demands. She sat there for a second, letting bitter tears wash of the mud from her nearly hollow cheeks. Silently, I snuck in behind her, and pretended dropping a 100 bits bill. I made no efforts whatsoever to pick it up. After all, my family still had lots of them in our treasury.
She swiftly grabbed the bill, clenching it tightly against her chest. I smiled as she looked me in the eyes. Before she could even thank me, I covered my mouth with my left hoof. She understood what I meant, and ran away from me, not looking back even once. I chuckled. The armor over my wings suddenly felt lighter, and my silk robes no longer itched. Is this what happiness feels like? It's so.. sporadic, and somewhat warm too. I like it. I just wish there was some way to make it last... Maybe the future will solve this problem for us?
Trinity of Time: Fate and Change
Scene 3 Act 2 Part 2 (Lavender)
Ugh... My body is all sore... I can barely move... Hmm? Why is the ground so soft? Where's all this light coming from? I'm not dead, am I? ... I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. That sounds like something I would've done after last night. In what ways could I have killed myself? No, now's not the time for that. It feels so warm. Sunlight? Yeah, that's probably a better explanation. So then, why's the ground all soft. What time is it?
"How are you doing?" I heard a warm, caring, familiar voice ask me. "Luna was worried when you didn't come back, so she flew out to search for you." Wait, they know I sneak out? "Your expression tells me you're pretty surprised. Did you really think it was necessary to hide something as harmless as a nightly stroll?" I merely moaned. My eyes were too weak to open. I felt her cold slipper on my chest. That feeling of glaciated metal immediately woke me up. I realized I was panting, covered in sweat and tears from last night. Did the Princesses really take the time to bring me back to my room? Hmm... Let's see... the walls are a soothing, violet hue. In the corner, a neatly kept desk stood amidst a crowd of dolls, toys, cards, board games, building blocks and video-games. Yeah... This was my room. Nopony else was this childish at my age. Heck; the floor was covered in those "styrofoam puzzle pieces," with the letters and symbols in the middle of them. "You just had a bad day, that's all." she added. I sat there, silent. Finally, I built up enough courage to ask her a question that has haunted me for far too long.
"Princess, why did you choose to take care of me like this?" She gave me no reply. For a while, we sat there, completely still. Neither of us made a single sound. Her silence worried me. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore. I snapped right there, in front of Her Royal Majesty. "I'm sick and tired of running away! I don't want to hide behind this mask of lies, pampered in layers and layers of makeup!" The strangest part is, no matter how outraged I seemed, none of my limbs, excluding my mouth and eyes, moved a single inch. Celestia wasn't looking at me in the eye anymore. It's the first time I've seen the Princess lower her head in shame. Her tricolor mane, usually wavy and in constant motion, stood still, hiding her teary eyes.
"Please Celestia! Answer my question!" There was another long silence like this, before she finally spoke. I heard a crackle in her voice, as if she was holding back a long lost feeling of sadness. "You're right... It was not my call to keep the truth away from you..." Then what is it you're trying to tell me?
"Fifteen years ago, while I was still mourning the loss of my dearest student Twilight Sparkle, my faithful little sister Luna heard cries at the castle gates. She went ahead to investigate on her own. Naturally, I was worried sick. First the Elements, then Twilight's friends, and finally, Twilight herself. One by one, they all left my side. Yet, I knew I would only be mourning for a time, waiting for the cycle to begin anew." She looked up at me, and saw the puzzled expression I bore.
"You see Lavender, long ago, six young ponies from all over the map of a once broken Equestria came together, and created the Elements of Harmony. Unfortunately, during a battle against Discord..." She stopped for a second, her voice trailing off into the distance. I said nothing, waiting patiently for her to continue her tale. Was that remorse I saw in her eyes? Tears... I don't think anyone has ever seen the Princess cry before. "I'm... I'm sorry Lavender... It's just... Sometimes, these old memories get to you." She inhaled a deep breath. "As I was saying, during a battle against Discord, the six faced no other choice, but to take their own lives in order to eliminate Discord. And I..." She coughed. "I was too late... I couldn't help them anymore..." Celestia looked down at her hooves. In that instant, I knew thousands of years worth of memories whisked by, in a single reflection.
"Crystal told me she would take care of things. She told me one day, the two of us would meet again." Her eyes trailed off in the distance, admiring the bright, glorious sun of noon. I couldn't possibly imagine how painful it must be for her. "Then, one day, thousands of years later, we did. A young foal came here in hopes of becoming part of the Canterlot Magic Academy. By some sort of unexpected phenomenon, she was able to turn a baby dragon into a full sized adult, although her spell was still very imperfect at the time." The Princess of the Sun turned her head back towards me again, staring into my eyes. "I was overjoyed when I saw the little filly face to face. She was a completely different color scheme, with a different mane, and different talent. However, those eyes could never betray me. Sure, they were of different color, but that sparkle... I've only seen it once before, thousands of years ago."
I didn't want to interrupt. However, she still hadn't answered my questions. "When Luna found you outside in the cold, wrapped in a soft, white blanket, and comfortably tucked in a small basket, she brought you inside. I thought about sending you directly to the orphanage, or maybe even gift you to a family I had known personally. However, all that changed when I read the note stuck by your side." She pulled out an old scroll. The edges were a little roughed up, and parts of it were wet. However, it didn't matter, as there was only one word on it.
"Fate? What does that mean?" Celestia chuckled a little, and then giggled just a little louder. "From that point on, I knew you were the one. I see in you that same sparkle Twilight possessed." Okay, I'm confused. "Don't you understand Lavender; you are the new Element of Magic."
