Starlight Glimmer resurfaces years after the mental breakdown that sent her wondering into a dead end life of isolation. Shaken by the news of her ex best friend, Trixie's tragic passing, she returns to Ponyville to seek closure to the grudge she's held ever since the magician stole the romantic affections of her longtime friend, Sunburst. Finally confronting her own conflicted feelings surrounding the three of them she suddenly finds herself reluctantly reunited with her old flame and plopped into the life he'd built while she was away. In despair himself, Sunburst is left struggling to be a single parent to his grieving son, Hat Trick who views Starlight as an interloper in their world. Starlight's desire for companionship is left floundering out of respect for the deceased and friction with Sunburst and Trixie's son. It's too late to make up with Trixie but can the three of them heal together in her absence?
