Starlight Glimmer had been in the middle of an ordinary—well, relatively ordinary—experiment with dimensional magic when everything went wrong. A surge of arcane energy crackled around her, tearing open a rift in space before she could react. A strong force yanked her forward, and in an instant, Equestria vanished.
When she came to, she found herself lying on cold asphalt beneath a gray, overcast sky. The air smelled rancid—decay and rot mixed with the distant scent of smoke. Starlight’s ears flattened as she took in her surroundings. This was nothing like Equestria. The buildings were lifeless, abandoned cars littered the streets, and an eerie silence blanketed everything.
Then came the moans.
Starlight turned sharply, her heart pounding as figures emerged from the shadows. At first, she thought they were ponies—no, creatures of this world—but something was wrong. Their eyes were lifeless, their skin was rotting, and their movements were unnatural. A horrifying realization struck her. These beings were undead.
Panic surged through her. She charged her horn, firing a bolt of magic at the closest zombie, sending it sprawling back. But more were coming. Dozens. No—hundreds .
"Okay, okay! Stay calm, Starlight! Think!" she muttered, stepping backward as the horde closed in. She prepared another spell, but before she could unleash it—
BANG!
A loud crack rang through the air, and one of the zombies’ heads snapped backward as a bullet tore through it. Another shot followed, then another. The creatures fell, but there were too many.
"Hey! Over here!"
A voice. A real , living voice.
Starlight turned toward the sound and saw a human—tall, clad in dark tactical gear, a rifle in his hands. His face was partially concealed beneath a helmet and visor, but his determined eyes were locked on her.
"Move!" he shouted, sprinting toward her while firing at the approaching undead.
Starlight didn’t need to be told twice. She bolted toward him, blasting away a few zombies along the way. The stranger’s bullets tore through the horde with precision, but even with his skill, the sheer numbers were overwhelming.
"This way!" he ordered, grabbing her hoof in a firm but careful grip.
He led her through the ruined streets, dodging grasping hands and decayed jaws. They reached a house—a seemingly ordinary suburban home, albeit with boarded-up windows and reinforced walls. The man shoved the door open, pulling Starlight inside before slamming it shut behind them.
Both of them panted, catching their breath.
"That was close," he muttered before turning to her. "You okay?"
Starlight nodded, still processing what just happened. "Y-Yeah. Thanks to you."
The man removed his helmet, revealing short black hair, a sharp but youthful face, and eyes that held a mixture of exhaustion and determination. He extended a gloved hand.
"Name's Sam Blackthorn. S.W.A.T officer—well, was a S.W.A.T officer before the world went to hell."
Starlight hesitated before shaking his hand with her hoof. "Starlight Glimmer. I'm… not from around here."
Sam smirked, clearly having already figured that out. "Yeah, I kinda noticed. But we can talk about that later. First, let me show you where we’ll be safe."
He led her deeper into the house, past furniture pushed against windows and makeshift barricades. In the center of the living room was a large, well-secured metal hatch. He knelt down and yanked it open, revealing a ladder leading into darkness.
"Welcome to my little slice of survival," he said, gesturing for her to go first. "It ain't much, but it keeps the zombies out."
Starlight peered down, swallowing her nerves. She had no idea how she ended up in this world, but one thing was certain—if she was going to survive, she needed an ally. And for now, Sam Blackthorn was the best chance she had.
Taking a deep breath, she stepped onto the ladder and descended into the unknown.

Starlight climbed down the ladder carefully, the cold metal rungs pressing against her hooves as she descended into darkness. A few moments later, Sam followed, pulling the heavy hatch shut above them with a clunk before sealing it with a reinforced locking mechanism.
As soon as her hooves touched solid ground, bright fluorescent lights flickered to life, illuminating a surprisingly well-maintained underground bunker.
Starlight’s eyes widened as she took in her surroundings. The bunker was much more spacious than she had expected. The main area featured a small but well-stocked kitchen with shelves filled with canned goods, bottled water, and supplies. A long table with a few mismatched chairs sat nearby. Against the far wall, a couch and an old but functional television were set up, though she doubted it received any broadcasts. Hallways extended deeper into the bunker, leading to other rooms.
Sam stepped forward, punching a sequence of numbers into a keypad on the wall. A green light flashed, confirming the code, and another door slid open.
"Security system," he explained. "Just in case something—or someone—tries to break in. The codes change every few days, and only I know them." He glanced at Starlight. "Well, now you do too—if you're sticking around."
She gave a small nod, still absorbing everything. "This place is… incredible. You have enough supplies to last a long time."
Sam shrugged. "Years, if I ration right. I was lucky—found this place while things were going bad and secured it before anyone else could. It used to be some rich guy’s private fallout shelter. He didn’t make it, but I did."
He walked ahead, gesturing for her to follow. "Come on, I'll show you around."
Starlight’s tour was thorough. Sam first showed her to a small but comfortable bedroom. It had a simple bed, a dresser, and even a small bookshelf filled with old paperbacks. "This'll be your room," he said. "Might not be fancy, but it beats sleeping outside with the dead."
Next was the bathroom, which thankfully had running water thanks to an underground reservoir and a filtration system. Then came the kitchen, where Sam explained how the food and supplies were organized. "Eat what you need, but don’t waste anything. We don’t know how long this will go on," he warned.
After showing her a few more storage rooms and a small armory, Sam let out a long breath. "That should cover the basics. You should get some rest—we’ll figure out what to do next in the morning."
Starlight nodded, exhaustion finally catching up to her. The day had been a nightmare, but at least for now, she had a safe place to sleep. "Thanks, Sam. Really."
He gave her a small, tired smile. "No problem. Sleep well, Starlight."
With that, they each retired to their rooms, the bunker settling into an eerie but peaceful silence.
The next morning, Starlight stirred awake, the unfamiliar but strangely comforting hum of the bunker’s ventilation system filling her ears. She stretched, shaking off the remnants of sleep before deciding to check on Sam.
She trotted down the hall and peeked into his room. What she saw made her pause.
Sam was still asleep, lying on his back with his arms behind his head. His usual tactical vest and jacket had been tossed onto a chair, leaving his upper body bare. His toned, well-built physique was evident—even after everything, he kept himself in excellent shape. His chest rose and fell steadily as he slept, exhaustion clear on his face.
Starlight felt a small heat rise to her cheeks before shaking her head. Focus, Starlight. This isn't the time to be distracted.
She stepped forward cautiously. "Uh… Sam?"
No response.
She sighed. "Guess I’ll let him sleep a little longer."
With that, she turned and made her way to the kitchen, ready to figure out breakfast in this strange new world.

Starlight busied herself in the small kitchen, using what she could find to prepare a simple breakfast. She wasn't exactly a chef, but she managed to put together some canned beans, toast from stored bread, and some powdered eggs reconstituted with water. It wasn’t much, but in a world like this, any meal that wasn’t scavenged off the street was a luxury.
As she set the plates on the table, she heard movement from down the hall. Heavy footsteps approached, and moments later, Sam emerged from his room, stretching his arms as he yawned. His upper body was still bare, but he didn't seem to notice—or care.
"Mmm… something smells good," he muttered, rubbing the sleep from his eyes before looking at her. "You cook?"
Starlight smirked. "Well, I can assemble food. Cooking is a strong word."
Sam chuckled and sat down at the table. "Hey, considering most people are eating expired protein bars or whatever they can loot, this is five-star dining." He grabbed a fork and dug in.
Starlight sat across from him, eating her share while observing him. Now that she had a better look at him in proper lighting, she noticed just how exhausted he seemed. Even after a full night’s sleep, there were still dark circles under his eyes.
"So, what's the plan for today?" she asked between bites.
Sam took a sip from a bottle of water before answering. "Two things. First, we're getting out of here—at least for a while."
Starlight blinked. "What? Why?"
"Don’t get me wrong, the bunker’s safe, but it's not practical for long-term survival without a backup plan," Sam explained. "We need something mobile. An RV, specifically. There’s a dealership a few miles from here, and if we can get a good one with a Minx camping trailer attached, we’ll have more space to sleep, store supplies, and move around if we need to."
Starlight nodded slowly, seeing the logic in his plan. "Alright… but why the black trash bags and duct tape?"
Sam smirked. "Old trick. Blackout curtains are too flimsy, and some RVs have way too many windows. Trash bags and duct tape? Perfect for blocking light at night so we don’t attract unwanted attention."
Starlight shivered slightly at the thought. "Right… that makes sense. And after that?"
Sam hesitated for a moment before sighing. "After that… we check on my dad."
Something about the way he said it made Starlight pause. "Your dad? He’s still alive?"
"As far as I know," Sam replied, his voice quieter now. "I haven’t been able to check on him in weeks. Before everything went to hell, he was living alone outside the city. Stubborn old man refused to move when the outbreak started."
Starlight could see the concern in his eyes. "You sound worried."
"Yeah," Sam admitted. "Not just because of the zombies. My dad—he likes to be called 'Pops' and nothing else—used to be a Marine Gunnery Sergeant. Tough as nails, fought in wars before I was even born. But…" He hesitated. "He’s got a heart condition. If something happened to his meds or if he ran out…"
He didn’t finish the sentence, but he didn’t need to. Starlight understood.
She placed a hoof on his arm reassuringly. "Then let’s go find him. If he’s anything like you, I’m sure he’s still kicking."
Sam chuckled, shaking his head. "You don’t even know me that well yet."
Starlight grinned. "I know enough."
With that, Sam stood up, stretching one last time before grabbing his tactical vest and pulling his shirt over his head. Once fully dressed again, he secured his weapons and gear.
"Alright, let’s move. The sooner we get that RV, the sooner we check on Pops."
Starlight nodded, her resolve firm.
This world was dangerous, but at least she wasn’t facing it alone.

Earth – The Streets Outside the Bunker
Sam peered through the binoculars from behind an abandoned car, scanning the RV dealership up ahead. The large parking lot was filled with rows of vehicles, some looking untouched, others clearly looted or destroyed. The Minx camping trailers were stored behind a chain-link fence near the back of the lot.
And, of course, there were zombies.
Not a massive horde—maybe two dozen or so shuffling around aimlessly—but enough to be a problem.
Starlight crouched beside him, trying to stay quiet. "So, what’s the plan?"
Sam lowered the binoculars. "We move in quiet and take out as many as we can before they notice us. Once we thin them out, we make a run for the RV and hook up the Minx trailer. If things go bad…" He patted the rifle strapped to his back. "We go loud."
Starlight nodded, swallowing hard. This world was terrifying, but she had already decided—she wasn’t going to be useless.
As they crept forward, Sam silently drew his Bowie knife and slipped behind the nearest zombie. With one swift motion, he grabbed its head and drove the blade into the base of its skull, lowering the corpse to the ground without a sound.
Starlight mimicked his stealthy approach, using her magic to lift another zombie into the air, snapping its neck before gently lowering it down. Sam gave her an approving nod.
For a few minutes, the plan worked. They dispatched several of the undead before anyone noticed. But then—
CLANG!
Starlight accidentally knocked over a rusty metal sign while sidestepping a body.
The noise echoed through the lot, and instantly, every zombie turned in their direction.
Sam sighed. "So much for quiet."
The horde rushed toward them.
Sam wasted no time, drawing his rifle and firing controlled bursts into the approaching undead. Headshots only. He moved like a trained soldier, methodical and efficient, conserving ammo.
Starlight charged her horn, blasting several zombies backward. The impact shattered bones, but some still twitched, trying to crawl toward them.
One particularly fast zombie lunged at Sam from the side—only for him to drop-kick it mid-air, sending it sprawling before finishing it with a knife to the skull.
"Nice kick," Starlight quipped.
"Thanks. Now MOVE!"
They reached the RV Sam had picked out—a durable, heavy-duty model with off-road tires. He yanked the door open and cleared the inside before jumping into the driver’s seat.
Starlight climbed in after him. "What about the trailer?"
"Cover me!"
Sam jumped out, running toward the Minx camping trailer as Starlight blasted any zombies that got too close. He quickly hitched it to the RV, making sure it was secure before rushing back.
As he climbed in, a guttural snarl came from the side.
An undead dog—a massive, rotting Rottweiler—leaped at him, jaws snapping.
Sam barely dodged in time, rolling onto the ground. The dog lunged again. Sam caught it mid-air, wrestling it before plunging his Bowie knife into its head. The creature let out one last whimper before going still.
"Sorry, buddy," Sam muttered, standing up.
"Sam, get in!" Starlight yelled.
He sprinted back to the RV and slammed the door shut behind him. "Hold on!"
With a turn of the key, the engine roared to life, and Sam floored it, smashing through a few zombies as they sped off down the road.
"Well, that could've gone worse," Starlight said breathlessly.
Sam let out a tired chuckle. "Could've gone better, too."
Equestria – Twilight’s Castle
Trixie paced back and forth in Twilight’s library, her tail flicking with frustration. "I’m telling you, something happened to Starlight! She wouldn't just disappear without telling somepony!"
Twilight nodded, scanning through a book of magical anomalies. "I know, Trixie, but I can’t find any traces of her teleportation. It’s like she just… vanished."
Applejack frowned. "Ya don’t think some kinda spell backfired, do ya?"
Just then, Pinkie Pie pointed at something. "Uh… everypony? That mirror wasn't there before, right?"
The group turned to see a large, ornate mirror against the far wall. It definitely hadn’t been in the castle before. Unlike the portal to the human world, this one had an eerie glow, and its reflective surface shimmered unnaturally.
Rainbow Dash stepped forward. "Okay, that’s creepy."
Suddenly, the mirror flickered—and an image appeared on its surface.
Everypony gasped as they saw Starlight, standing beside a strange creature—a human—engaged in battle with horrifying undead monsters. The display changed, showing the human performing an acrobatic drop-kick on a zombie before stabbing another with brutal efficiency.
"Whoa! Did you see that?!" Rainbow Dash gawked.
The scene shifted again, now showing the human dealing with an undead dog, putting it down swiftly.
Fluttershy covered her mouth. "Oh my goodness… What is that place?"
Twilight’s eyes widened as she watched Starlight and the human working together. "That human… he's protecting her."
"But from what?!" Rarity exclaimed. "Those creatures—are they… dead?"
The answer was obvious, but none of them wanted to say it.
Trixie stepped closer to the mirror, her expression a mix of fear and determination. "We have to find a way to bring Starlight back."
Twilight nodded, her mind already racing with possibilities. "First, we need to figure out what this mirror is. If it’s showing us Starlight, then maybe it’s connected to wherever she is."
Pinkie Pie tapped the glass. "Ooooh, what if it’s like a magical projector? Showing us her adventures like a movie!"
Applejack frowned. "Ah don’t think this is just a show, Pinkie. This is real."
The mirror flickered again, showing the human—Sam—driving a large metal carriage (the RV) with Starlight sitting beside him. They looked exhausted but alive.
Twilight took a deep breath. "Who is that human… and how does he know Starlight?"
Nopony had an answer. But one thing was certain:
They needed to bring Starlight home—before it was too late.

The RV rumbled down the cracked, overgrown road as Sam drove toward his father’s house—an old, fortified cabin on the outskirts of the city. Starlight sat in the passenger seat, occasionally glancing at Sam as he remained focused on the road, gripping the wheel tighter than usual.
"You nervous?" she asked.
Sam exhaled sharply. "Yeah. Pops is tough, but I haven’t been able to check on him in weeks. If something happened to him—"
"Then we’ll deal with it together," Starlight said firmly.
Sam smirked slightly. "You’re getting good at this whole 'survival' thing."
Before Starlight could reply, they pulled up to the property. The house itself was still standing, reinforced with makeshift barricades, but something was wrong.
A massive pile of undead bodies lay just outside the front porch, their rotting corpses stacked high. Blood stained the ground and walls, and dozens of shell casings glinted in the dirt. The stench of death filled the air.
Sam immediately drew his rifle. "Stay close."
Starlight swallowed hard but nodded, charging her horn just in case.
They carefully stepped over the bodies, the wooden porch creaking beneath them. The front door was slightly ajar, blood smeared across the frame. Inside, the hallway was a scene of carnage—more bodies, bullet holes, and spent ammunition littered the floor.
Sam moved cautiously through the house, leading them toward the living room. The moment he stepped inside—

Cold steel pressed against the back of his helmet.
"Turn around slow," a gruff voice ordered.
Sam immediately raised his hands, recognizing the voice. "Pops, it's me."
A long silence followed. Then, the gun barrel lowered.
"Well, I’ll be damned."
Sam turned to see his father—an older, grizzled man with a strong build despite his age. His gray hair was buzzed short, his beard neatly trimmed. He wore a tactical vest over a faded Marine Corps shirt, a well-maintained shotgun slung over his shoulder. His eyes, sharp as ever, studied Sam for a moment before a rare smile crossed his face.
"Didn't think I'd see your ugly mug again," Pops muttered.
Sam smirked. "Nice to see you too, old man."
They clasped forearms before pulling each other into a firm embrace.
Starlight, who had been holding her breath the entire time, finally exhaled. "Wow. That was tense."
Pops pulled back and gave her a long, appraising look. "And who’s this?"
"Starlight Glimmer," Sam introduced. "She’s… not from around here."
Pops raised an eyebrow. "I can tell." He studied her for a moment longer, then shrugged. "Well, if she’s with you, I’ll trust her—for now."
Before Starlight could respond, a distant howl echoed through the air.
Sam stiffened. "That’s not good."
Pops peered out the window, his face darkening. "No, it ain't."
A massive horde was approaching—hundreds, maybe a thousand undead shambling toward the house like a relentless tide.
"Son of a…" Sam muttered.
"We can't fight that many!" Starlight said, eyes wide.
Pops chuckled. "Ordinarily, no. But I ain't ordinary."
He motioned for them to follow as he led them to the back of the house. There, sitting in the garage, was a fully functional minigun, salvaged from a wrecked military convoy. It was mounted on a rotating stand, ammo belts already loaded.
Starlight blinked. "You have a minigun?!"
Pops grinned. "Damn right I do."
The undead were nearly at the property now, moaning hungrily.
Sam shook his head, smirking. "I missed you, Pops."
"Save the reunion for later, boy," Pops said, gripping the handles of the minigun. He revved the weapon, the barrels spinning faster and faster until—
*BRRRRRRRRRRRRRT!*
A deafening roar filled the air as Pops unleashed a storm of bullets, shredding the first wave of zombies into bloody chunks. The ground became a sea of torn flesh and shattered bone, bodies piling up as the minigun mowed them down.
Sam and Starlight joined the fight—Sam picking off stragglers with his rifle, Starlight blasting groups apart with her magic.
But despite their firepower, the horde kept coming.
"They're getting smarter," Pops muttered between bursts. "Testing our defenses. Seeing where we're weak."
Sam gritted his teeth. "Then let’s show them we aren’t weak."
The battle raged on, the trio fighting side by side against impossible odds.

The images of Starlight and the human, Sam Blackthorn, fighting against impossible odds in a nightmarish world were burned into their minds. The sight of that horde—hundreds, maybe a thousand of those terrifying creatures—was enough to shake even Rainbow Dash. And then there was the older human, Pops, wielding a massive weapon that could tear through an entire army of undead.
Twilight finished her letter, rolling it up and attaching an enchanted crystal to it—one that contained an arcane recording of everything they had seen.
"Spike, send this to Princess Celestia immediately," she said urgently.
The young dragon nodded, taking a deep breath before exhaling a burst of green flame, sending the scroll hurtling toward Canterlot in a swirl of magic.
Now, all they could do was wait.
Canterlot – Princess Celestia’s Chambers
Celestia sat at her desk, quietly reviewing diplomatic documents when the scroll materialized before her in a flash of green flame. The urgent royal seal from Twilight caught her attention immediately.
Her magic unraveled the parchment, her eyes scanning the words with increasing concern. Then, her gaze fell upon the crystal attached to the letter. She infused it with her magic, activating the recorded arcane projection.
Her chamber darkened as moving images began playing before her.
She watched everything—the moment Twilight and her friends first discovered Starlight was missing, the mirror revealing the world she had been transported to, and the horrifying battles against the undead. Celestia remained stoic as she observed Sam Blackthorn fighting with skill and efficiency, protecting Starlight at every turn. Then came the battle at the old man’s house—the sheer scale of the horde, the brutal struggle, and the minigun.
The recording ended.
Celestia took a deep breath, her face unreadable.
Then, without a word, she stood and exited her chambers, making her way toward Luna’s tower.
Canterlot – Princess Luna’s Balcony
Princess Luna gazed at the night sky, deep in thought, when the sound of hoofsteps behind her caught her attention. She turned to see Celestia, her expression serious.
"Sister?" Luna asked, raising an eyebrow. "What troubles you?"
Celestia didn’t speak immediately. Instead, she levitated Twilight’s letter and the crystal toward Luna. "You need to see this."
Luna’s horn glowed as she activated the recording. The images played again, showing Starlight in the company of the humans, the battles, the horror of the undead.
When it ended, Luna was silent for a long time. Then she spoke.
"This is not the world Sunset Shimmer described," she said, her voice grave. "This is something else."
Celestia nodded. "Twilight believes this is another dimension entirely—one where the dead do not stay dead."
Luna frowned. "And these humans—especially the one called Sam Blackthorn—they are warriors."
"Survivors," Celestia corrected. "Fighting every moment just to live."
Luna studied her sister carefully. "You have already decided to act."
Celestia met her gaze. "We leave for Ponyville immediately."
Luna nodded firmly. "Then I shall prepare."
Ponyville – Twilight’s Castle
The doors to the castle throne room swung open as Celestia and Luna stepped inside, their regal forms casting long shadows. Twilight and her friends immediately bowed, but Celestia held up a hoof.
"There is no time for formalities, my little ponies," she said. "We have much to discuss."
Twilight quickly explained everything again, going over what they had learned so far. Celestia listened intently before finally speaking.
"We must determine how Starlight ended up in that world," she said. "And, more importantly, if there is a way to bring her back."
Applejack frowned. "What if she don’t want to come back? It looked like she was fightin’ to survive, sure, but she’s got folks helpin’ her over there."
Rainbow Dash crossed her forelegs. "Yeah, and those humans? They’re kinda awesome. Did you see that kick? And that old guy’s weapon? That thing was insane!"
Rarity shuddered. "Yes, but darling, did you see those dreadful creatures? That world is horrifying!"
Fluttershy, still shaken, nodded. "We have to help her. We can’t just leave her there."
Celestia turned her gaze to the enchanted mirror. "We must understand this artifact. It is showing us Starlight’s journey for a reason."
Luna stepped forward. "Perhaps the mirror is not just a window—but a door."
Twilight’s eyes widened. "You mean… we could go there?"
Celestia nodded. "If such a thing is possible, we must be prepared. That world is unlike anything we have encountered before. If we enter it, we may not be able to rely on magic alone."
Pinkie Pie tilted her head. "Sooo… what do we do?"
Celestia’s expression was resolute. "First, we study the mirror. Then, if there is a way through… we go to Starlight."
The princesses and the Elements of Harmony turned toward the enchanted mirror, watching as it flickered to life once more—revealing Sam, Starlight, and Pops fortifying their defenses, preparing for the next battle in a world overrun by the dead.
The race to bring Starlight home had begun.

The air was thick with the stench of gunpowder and rotting flesh as Sam, Starlight, and Pops surveyed the battlefield outside the old cabin. The massive horde was now nothing more than a field of mangled corpses, torn apart by bullets, magic, and sheer determination.
Pops let out a slow exhale, his grip on the smoking barrels of the minigun loosening as the weapon cooled. "Well… that was a hell of a wake-up call."
Sam kicked a twitching corpse to make sure it was really dead before nodding. "Yeah. But we can’t stay here. We need to pack up and move out before another horde catches our scent."
Starlight looked around at the sheer scale of destruction. "I don’t get it… why were there so many?"
Pops stroked his beard. "They’re gettin’ smarter. Testing our defenses. That wasn’t just a random horde, kid—that was a damn probe. They wanted to see if we’d break."
Sam clenched his jaw. "Well, they got their answer. Let’s get moving."
Packing Up the RV
The trio moved quickly, gathering everything they could. Sam made sure Pops took all of his heart medication, not just a few bottles.
"Seriously, old man," Sam said, shoving extra pill containers into his father’s bag. "If you keel over from a heart attack, I’ll personally bring you back as a zombie just to yell at you."
Pops snorted. "Yeah, yeah, quit fussin’. I got it."
Starlight levitated some spare ammunition crates into the RV. "You two really are family," she muttered, half-amused, half-exasperated.
Once everything was loaded up, Sam and Pops moved to the back of the house, where a large cargo container sat hidden behind some overgrown brush.
"This thing still good to go?" Sam asked.
Pops slapped the steel exterior. "Damn right it is. Reinforced walls, lockable from the inside, and enough space to stash our trailer and supplies. If things get bad, we can hunker down in here."
With some effort—and a lot of creative engineering—they rigged up a hauling system to tow the cargo container behind the RV, effectively turning it into a mobile bunker.
Sam wiped sweat from his brow, inspecting their work. "Alright. We’re mobile. Time for the next phase."
Starlight looked up. "Which is?"
Sam cracked his knuckles. "We fight our way down the East Coast."
The Plan – Get to Florida
With the RV loaded, the cargo container secured, and everyone geared up, Sam sat in the driver’s seat, laying out their next move.
"We head south," he said, gripping the wheel. "Fight our way through whatever’s left of the East Coast. We’ll salvage what we can along the way and make it to Florida."
Starlight tilted her head. "What’s in Florida?"
Sam’s expression hardened. "A military base. One big enough to have a cargo plane."
Starlight blinked. "Wait—you’re planning to fly out of here?"
"That’s the idea," Sam confirmed. "Once we get to Florida, we’ll find a base, get a plane working, and take off. If we can get airborne, we can escape the country and regroup."
Pops crossed his arms. "And where exactly do you plan on landin’ that thing, boy?"
Sam smirked. "Mexico."
Pops raised an eyebrow. "Mexico?"
"Yeah," Sam nodded. "Before all this went to hell, my old friend Tsunami was vacationing there. If he’s still alive, we’ll find him. And if he’s not…" His jaw tightened. "Then at least we’ll know."
Pops let out a low whistle. "Hell of a plan."
Starlight exhaled. "I take it this Tsunami guy is important?"
Sam nodded. "He’s the best damn pilot I know. If anyone can get us to safety, it’s him."
Pops chuckled. "Figures. Only you would know a guy named Tsunami."
Sam grinned. "You’ll like him. Assuming he’s not a zombie by now."
Starlight rubbed her temples. "Great. More undead to deal with."
Sam patted the RV’s dashboard. "First things first. We get rolling before we attract more company."
With a final check of their supplies, Sam put the vehicle into gear, and they drove off—headed toward the unknown.

Earth – Highway to New York
The RV rumbled down the cracked and overgrown roads, its reinforced tires crunching over debris. The dead littered the streets, some twitching, others unmoving. Abandoned vehicles clogged the highway, but thanks to Pops’ little addition to the front of the RV, they had no trouble plowing through.
The Cowcatcher , as Pops proudly called it, was a heavy-duty metal plow, salvaged from a train and welded onto the front bumper. It sent rusted cars and wreckage skidding harmlessly to the side as they powered forward, cutting a clean path through the destruction.
Starlight, sitting in the passenger seat, watched in quiet amazement as the world blurred past. "I still can’t believe how much damage there is… It's like a world frozen in time."
Sam, focused on the road, kept his hands steady on the wheel. "It’s worse in the cities. We’ll see for ourselves soon enough."
Pops, lounging in the back, kicked his feet up. "Just hope we don’t run into too many ‘runners’ when we get there. Hate those fast little freaks."
Starlight shuddered. "Runners?"
Sam sighed. "Some of the zombies move fast. Really fast."
Starlight groaned. "Of course they do."
As they pressed forward, unaware of what awaited them, their journey was also being observed—by their friends back in Equestria.
Equestria – Twilight’s Castle
The enchanted mirror shimmered as Twilight, Celestia, Luna, and the others continued watching Starlight’s journey.
Rarity fanned herself dramatically. "They’ve been driving for hours! How long does it take to reach this ‘New York’ place?"
Twilight, taking notes as fast as she could, replied without looking up. "It’s hard to say. Time doesn’t flow exactly the same between dimensions, but judging by what we’ve seen, they’ve been traveling for most of the day."
Rainbow Dash watched with keen interest as the RV shoved an overturned truck out of the way. "Okay, that thing Pops built onto the front? Awesome."
Applejack gave a low whistle. "Gotta say, these humans sure are resourceful. Surprised they ain't runnin’ outta gas yet."
As if on cue, the mirror shifted to show Sam pulling the RV to a stop just outside the ruins of New York City.
Twilight perked up. "Looks like they made it."
Earth – New York City Outskirts
The sun dipped below the skyline, casting long shadows across the abandoned streets as Sam switched off the RV’s engine. "Alright, we need fuel. I’ll siphon what I can from these abandoned cars. Starlight, keep an eye out for trouble."
Starlight saluted mockingly. "You got it, Captain."
Sam smirked, grabbing a hose and an empty gas can before heading toward a nearby wreck. Pops followed, shotgun in hand.
It didn’t take long to find a car with fuel still inside. Sam shoved the hose in and began siphoning.
Pops leaned against the car. "So, we hittin’ the military base first, or we stoppin’ in Florida for some fun?"
Sam scoffed. "Yeah, because a zombie-infested beach vacation sounds great right now."
Pops chuckled. "Hey, gotta enjoy the little things."
They worked in silence for a bit, refueling the RV and checking the engine for gunk buildup. Sam removed a few clogged filters, cleaning them out as best as he could.
As they worked, the mirror back in Equestria displayed the scene. The ponies, fascinated by the process, watched with a mixture of curiosity and concern.
"They really do everything themselves, don’t they?" Fluttershy murmured.
Twilight nodded. "In a world like that, they have no choice."
Pinkie Pie’s eyes widened. "Ooooh! It’s almost dinnertime for them!"
Sure enough, Sam wiped his hands off on a rag and turned toward the RV. "Alright, I’m starving. Let’s eat."

Inside the RV, Sam rummaged through a supply crate before pulling out a can. He examined the label before shrugging and popping it open with his knife.
Starlight watched curiously. "What’s that?"
Sam glanced at the can. "Dog food. Beef and potato."
Starlight’s expression twisted in horror. "You’re not serious."
Sam grabbed a spoon, took a bite, and nodded. "Tastes fine."
Pops, laughing, grabbed his own can and dug in. "Hell, I ate worse in the Marines."
Starlight gagged. "That’s disgusting!"
Sam smirked. "Hey, protein is protein."
Seeing her distress, he reached into a different crate and pulled out a can of fruit and some crackers. "Relax, I’m not making you eat this. Got proper food for ya."
Starlight took the offered food, giving him a grateful nod. "Thank Celestia."
Meanwhile, back in Equestria, the girls watched the scene with mixed reactions.
Rainbow Dash was on the floor, laughing. "Dude, that guy is hardcore."
Rarity gagged. "Dog food?! Dog food?! I think I’m going to be ill!"
Applejack chuckled. "Gotta give ‘em credit, though. They ain't picky."

Earth – New York City Ruins
The ruined streets of New York were eerily silent, save for the distant moans of the undead lurking in alleyways and abandoned buildings. Sam, Starlight, and Pops moved cautiously through the desolate cityscape, their weapons ready.
Sam kept an eye on their surroundings. "We find a safe place to rest, restock supplies, and keep moving. Stay sharp."
Starlight nodded, horn glowing faintly in preparation for anything that might jump out.
Then, a sudden snarl broke the silence.
Sam spun around, rifle raised—just in time to see a zombie lunging toward Starlight from the side.
"Starlight, move!" Sam shouted, but before she could react—
*WHAM!*
A massive blur of fur slammed into the undead mid-air, sending it flying. The creature crashed into a rusted car, its head snapping back against the metal with a sickening crunch.
The trio stared, weapons still raised, as the dust settled.
Standing before them was a huge Saint Bernard, its thick fur matted with dirt but otherwise clean of any signs of infection. The dog looked at them, panting heavily, its deep brown eyes filled with intelligence.
"What in the hell…" Pops muttered.
Sam lowered his rifle slowly. "A dog? And it's not infected?"
The Saint Bernard sat down, wagging its fluffy tail, as if completely unbothered by the chaos around them.
Starlight stepped closer cautiously. "How is he not—?"
Sam knelt down, reaching out his hand carefully. The dog sniffed him before licking his glove.
"Well, looks like we got a new friend," Sam said, scratching the dog's ear. "Guess we should call him something."
Pops smirked. "Heh. Always liked the name Kenny."
Sam nodded. "Kenny it is."
The dog barked happily, as if approving of the name.
Starlight tilted her head. "But how is he alive? Every other living thing we’ve seen either turns or gets eaten."
Sam thought for a moment. "Somehow, he’s immune."
Pops chuckled. "Well, ain't that somethin'. A big, fluffy miracle on four legs."
Sam ruffled Kenny’s fur. "Guess that means we gotta keep him fed."
Breaking into the Pet Store
The trio—now with their new four-legged companion—made their way toward a looted but still-standing pet store.
Sam and Pops worked quickly, breaking through the locked door and slipping inside while Starlight and Kenny kept watch outside.
The mirror in Equestria flickered, showing the girls everything as they watched the humans loot the store.
"Wait… they’re actually taking care of that dog?" Fluttershy said, her eyes lighting up. "Oh, that’s so sweet!"
Twilight nodded. "It makes sense. If he’s immune, then he’s valuable. Not just as a companion, but as proof that maybe there’s a way to stop the infection."
The scene shifted again, showing Pops tossing bags of dry food into a duffel bag.

Then he spotted a shelf filled with booze .
Pops grinned. "Well, well… ain't this convenient?"
The mirror showed the ponies his next words loud and clear.
"Booze makes a great disinfectant… and if things go bad, it's a damn fine way to go out."
Applejack smirked. "Now that’s a stallion after my own heart."
Pops vs. The Monster
As Pops finished looting, a sudden crash came from deeper inside the store.
Sam and Pops turned, weapons raised.
From the darkness emerged a hulking, mutated zombie—easily seven feet tall, its muscles grotesquely overgrown, veins bulging beneath rotting skin.
Pops exhaled. "Well, ain't that ugly."
The beast roared and charged.
Sam raised his rifle—
"Nope. My kill."Pops said, cracking his neck before charging forward with just a knife.
Twilight and the others gasped.
"Is he crazy?!" Rainbow Dash shouted.
The fight was brutal. The monster swung wildly, but Pops dodged every blow, slipping under its attacks with the reflexes of a seasoned warrior.
Then, with one swift motion, he plunged his Bowie knife straight into its throat.
The beast gurgled, clawing at Pops—only for the old Marine to twist the knife and rip it sideways, nearly severing its head.
The creature collapsed, twitching before going still.
Pops exhaled, wiping blood from his face. "Hoo… damn, I still got it."
Sam shook his head in disbelief. "You just fought a mutated freak with nothing but a knife."
Pops grinned. "And won."
The ponies watching were speechless.
Finally, Pinkie Pie grinned. "I like that guy."
Regrouping and Moving On
With supplies packed and the area cleared, the trio returned to the RV, Kenny trotting happily beside them.
As they got inside, Sam looked at the road ahead. "We keep moving. We still got a long way to Florida."

Earth – Entering Philadelphia
The RV rumbled across the cracked highway as Sam, Pops, Starlight, Trixie, and Kenny finally reached the outskirts of Philadelphia. The city was eerily quiet—too quiet. The usual distant moans of the undead were absent, replaced by the occasional flutter of wings and the soft rustling of debris in the wind.
Sam kept his hands steady on the wheel, scanning the streets. “Stay sharp. Big cities mean big trouble.”
Pops grunted. “Yeah, but big cities also mean big loot.”
Starlight leaned over, looking out the windshield. “Are we stopping for supplies?”
Sam nodded. “If we find something good, yeah. We need to restock before pushing south.”
They weaved through the ruins, carefully avoiding blocked roads and collapsed buildings. Then—
“Wait,” Trixie pointed out the window. “What’s that?”
Sam squinted. Up ahead was an overturned Lays delivery truck, its cargo door busted open, revealing dozens of bags of potato chips, somehow still intact.
Pops grinned. “Jackpot.”
As they pulled up, they noticed something even better—a still-working cooling trailer attached to another nearby truck. The logo on the side?
“Mtn Dew – Baja Blast”
Sam actually smiled. “Holy shit. Now that’s a find.”
Looting the Snack Trucks
Pops was the first to hop out of the RV, quickly making his way to the overturned Lays truck.
He tore open a bag of chips, popping a handful into his mouth. “Still crispy,” he said through a full mouth. “That’s a good sign.”
Sam, meanwhile, climbed up onto the cooling trailer and pried open the doors. A blast of cold air hit him, revealing rows upon rows of sealed Baja Blast bottles, kept perfectly chilled.
Trixie tilted her head. “Why does he look so happy? It’s just a drink.”
Starlight chuckled. “Trust me. I think this means a lot to him.”
Sam whistled. “Pops, get the cargo container ready. We’re taking all of this.”
Pops laughed. “Damn right we are!”
Working together, they packed everything up—loading as many bags of chips as they could into the RV while stacking crates of Baja Blast into the cargo container. Sam made sure to leave enough room for their actual survival supplies, but no way in hell was he leaving behind a lifetime supply of his favorite soda.
“Alright,” Sam said, dusting off his hands. “That’s enough for now. Let’s find somewhere to crash for the night.”
Rest and Recovery
They found shelter in a reinforced pawn shop. The security gate had held firm against the apocalypse, making it the safest spot they could find.
For the first time in days, they relaxed
Sam sat on an old couch, cracking open a bottle of Baja Blast. He took a long sip, sighing in contentment. “Oh yeah… That’s the stuff.”
Pops sat nearby, stacking cans of beef and potato dog food like they were some fine luxury meal. “This world may be hell, but at least we eat good.”
Kenny, now happily munching on proper dog food, wagged his tail.
Trixie lay curled up on a pile of blankets, still overwhelmed by everything, while Starlight sat next to her, sipping a can of fruit juice Sam had given her earlier.
“This isn’t so bad,” Starlight admitted. “A little terrifying… but not bad.”
Sam smirked. “Enjoy the peace while it lasts.”
He wasn’t wrong.
The Infected Birds Attack
The next morning, just as they were preparing to leave, a deafening screech echoed through the streets.
Sam immediately grabbed his rifle. “What the hell was that?”
Kenny started barking furiously , his ears pinned back.
Then—they saw them.
A massive swarm of infected birds came swooping down from the rooftops, their bodies twisted and grotesque, red-glowing eyes locked onto the group.
“MOVE!” Sam shouted, firing into the sky.
The birds dove at them, razor-sharp talons slashing wildly.
Starlight and Trixie threw up magical shields, deflecting as many as they could, while Pops grabbed an old pump-action shotgun from the pawn shop and blasted several out of the air.
Sam ran toward the RV, shoving the doors open. “GET IN, NOW!”
Pops fired one last shot before jumping inside. Trixie practically teleported into the vehicle, screaming the whole way.
Kenny leaped in last, his massive jaws snapping at any bird that got too close.
Starlight was the last to run for the RV—one of the birds almost catching her before Sam grabbed her by the hoof and yanked her inside.
*SLAM!*
The doors shut, and Sam floored it.
The RV roared down the street, plowing through debris as the infected birds swarmed overhead, slamming into the vehicle in a crazed frenzy.
Pops peeked out a window. “Damn things won’t let up!”
Sam gritted his teeth. “Then let’s give ‘em something to chase.”
He swerved onto an open highway, picking up speed, then suddenly jerked the wheel—sending the RV crashing through a construction site’s scaffolding.
The sudden impact sent tons of metal beams and debris collapsing behind them—crushing the majority of the swarm.
The remaining birds, now leaderless and disoriented, screeched and scattered.
The RV kept going, speeding out of Philadelphia and back onto the open road.
Inside, everyone sat in stunned silence for a moment.
Then—
Pops laughed. “Well, that was a helluva way to wake up!”
Sam exhaled, gripping the wheel. “Y’know… I hate this city.”
Starlight groaned. “No more birds. Ever.”
Trixie just whimpered from under a blanket.
Sam smirked, glancing at the rearview mirror as the ruined city faded into the distance. “Next stop: Washington DC.”

The RV thundered down the cracked remains of the highway, pushing south toward Washington D.C. Sam kept his hands steady on the wheel, Pops lounged in the passenger seat, Kenny dozed in the back, and Starlight and Trixie sat near the table, the latter still trying to process everything.
Trixie groaned. "Are we ever going to get a normal day in this world?"
Starlight smirked. "You think today is going to be normal?"
Before Trixie could respond, Kenny suddenly snapped awake, his ears perked and teeth bared. A deep, guttural growl rumbled from his chest.
Pops sat up immediately. "Uh-oh. Big guy smells trouble."
Sam cursed under his breath. "Of course he does."
Ambushed by the Undead Zoo
As the RV rounded a bend, the ruins of an old zoo came into view, its rusted gates barely hanging onto their hinges. The overgrown pathways and shattered enclosures told a clear story—this place had been abandoned for a long time.
And then they saw them.
A massive undead lion stood in the road, its fur matted with dried blood, eyes glowing with sickly hunger. Beside it, a pack of zombified hyenas cackled as their rotten flesh sagged from their bones.
Then came the worst part—two zombified African elephants, their massive, decaying forms lumbering toward the group, eyes cloudy and tusks cracked.

Before anyone could react, a deep *whooshing* sound filled the air.

A wave of fire engulfed the lion and the hyenas, reducing them to flaming husks.
"What the hell?!" Sam yelled, shielding his eyes from the heat.
From behind a burned-out military Humvee stepped a massive figure—clad in a heavily-armored E.O.D. (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) suit, its dark plating scratched and battered from years of wear. The thick helmet and reinforced visor made him look like something out of a nightmare.
And in his hands?
A flamethrower, still spewing flames.
The man tilted his head. "Well… that’s one way to make an entrance."
Pops burst out laughing. "I like this guy already!"
The newcomer turned off his flamethrower and gave a quick salute. "Name’s Danger Dan. U.S. Army Rangers, 75th Regiment."
Sam blinked. "Wait. Your actual name is Danger Dan?"
Dan shrugged. "Short for Daniel. But yeah, Danger Dan’s what they called me."
Trixie, still trying to stay out of the way, whispered to Starlight, "Of course his name is Danger Dan."
The Battle for Survival
The victory was short-lived. The two infected elephants let out guttural, broken trumpets and charged.
Dan quickly backpedaled, dodging just in time as one of the undead beasts swung its massive tusks at him.
Sam and Pops opened fire, their bullets barely slowing the creatures down.
"WE GOT A PROBLEM!" Sam shouted.
Dan didn’t hesitate—he dodged another charge and swung his flamethrower nozzle toward the nearest elephant’s face.
*FWOOSH!*
Fire engulfed the beast’s head, but its sheer size made it hard to take down fast. Snarling, it swung wildly.
Dan ducked and, with surgical precision, jammed his combat knife into the elephant’s eye, blinding it instantly.
The monster screamed in rage, rearing up on its hind legs.
Pops gritted his teeth. "I hate to say it… but we gotta use the big gun."
Sam turned. "You sure?"
Pops cracked his knuckles and marched toward the minigun mounted on the cargo container. "We ain't got much ammo left, but if we don’t use it now, we ain’t makin’ it to D.C."
With a whirr, the minigun’s barrels began to spin.
"Alright, you undead sons of bitches," Pops growled. "Say cheese."
*BRRRRRRRRRRRRRT!*
A relentless hail of bullets ripped through the first elephant’s skull, tearing it apart in a spray of blood and bone.
The second elephant, still blinded, staggered forward—only for Sam to launch a grenade straight into its open mouth.
*BOOM!*
The blast erupted inside the beast’s skull, sending chunks of undead flesh flying everywhere.
The battle was over.
Pops let out a slow breath. "Well. That sucked."
Dan, still gripping his flamethrower, kicked a smoldering hyena corpse. "Yeah. The zoo was fun before the end of the world. Now? Not so much."
Sam sighed, rubbing his temples. "I swear, every damn day in this apocalypse gets worse."
Dan chuckled. "Welcome to my life."
Regrouping and Moving Forward
With the fight over, Sam, Pops, and the others quickly looted what they could from Dan’s old outpost. They secured more fuel, medical supplies, and ammunition.
Dan, now with nowhere else to go, joined the team.
"So," Dan said, hopping into the RV. "Where we headed?"
Sam exhaled. "D.C. Then Florida. Then… well, we’ll figure it out from there."

Pops was at the wheel, lazily munching on a Snowball, barely paying attention as the massive U.S. Capitol Building loomed in the distance.

Pops adjusted his grip on his shotgun, chewing the last bite of his Snowball before tossing the wrapper. “Something about this place don’t sit right.”

Sam took a deep breath. “No turning back now. We get in, loot what we can, and get out fast.”

The RV rumbled steadily down the ruined highway, the sun casting long shadows over the abandoned landscape. Sam kept his hands steady on the wheel, Pops sat in the passenger seat with Kenny’s massive head resting on his lap, and Starlight sat at the small table near the back, occasionally glancing at the enchanted mirror they had propped up in a safe corner of the RV.
The ponies back in Equestria were still watching. Twilight had been furiously taking notes, trying to make sense of the magic that connected the mirror to this other world.
Pops took a sip from his canteen. “So, how much farther till Philly?”
“Shouldn’t be more than a couple hours,” Sam answered, glancing at the fuel gauge. “We’ll stop in a few miles to siphon more gas, then push through.”

The RV pulled to a stop near an old, abandoned gas station. Sam and Pops immediately got to work siphoning what they could from the half-ruined vehicles littering the road. Starlight stayed nearby, watching for any undead. Kenny sniffed the air cautiously.
Then—
THUMP!
A very confused blue unicorn suddenly dropped out of nowhere, landing right next to Starlight.
Starlight blinked. “Trixie?”
Trixie groaned. “Ugh… Where am I? One moment I was talking to Twilight, and the next I—”
She froze as she took in her surroundings. The ruined landscape. The burned-out cars. The massive dog staring at her.
Then she turned her head and saw Sam and Pops.
“AaaaaAAHHHH—”
Starlight quickly clamped a hoof over Trixie’s mouth. “It’s okay! It’s okay! They’re friends!”
Trixie’s wide eyes darted back to Sam and Pops.
Pops gave her a warm grin. “Well, ain’t this a surprise? Welcome to the apocalypse, kid.”
Sam gave a small wave. “Sup?”

She looked at Starlight. “What in Celestia’s name is going on?!”
Starlight sighed. “Long story. But for now, just trust me. These guys? They’re the reason I’m still alive.”

Pops chuckled. “Relax, darlin’. Only thing funny ‘round here is my old ass still kickin’.”

“If there’s Twinkies in here, today might not be so bad,” he muttered as he broke the lock and climbed inside.

Pops smirked. “Not Twinkies, but hey, chocolate and marshmallow? I’ll take it.”
Sam sighed. “Man, I hate Snowballs.”
Pops laughed. “More for me, then!”
They packed up as much of the snack food as possible, securing it in the cargo container. Starlight and Trixie watched the whole thing, utterly baffled.
Trixie leaned toward Starlight. “They’re looting desserts?”
Starlight shrugged. “It’s been a long few days.”
As Sam closed the truck doors, an eerie sound drifted through the air.
A distant, faintly cheerful jingle.
Ting… ting… ting…
A haunting, warped version of an ice cream truck’s song echoed through the dead city.
Sam immediately froze. “…That’s not good.”
Kenny growled.
Then, from around the corner, an actual ice cream truck rolled into view—its speakers still blaring the eerie jingle. The truck was covered in dried blood and handprints, with gruesome symbols painted across its exterior.
The driver’s side door opened… and out stepped a clown.
Not just any clown—a heavily armed clown.
A second one climbed out, then a third. Each was dressed in disturbing, bloodstained carnival outfits, their grinning masks hiding their true faces. One of them held a machete. Another had a shotgun.
The lead clown, dressed in a tattered red and yellow suit, spread his arms wide.
“Well, well, well… What do we have here?”
Pops exhaled. “Son of a bitch.”
Starlight’s horn flared, and Trixie backed up nervously.
Sam cracked his neck, rolling his shoulders. “Lemme guess. You guys aren’t here for friendship and ice cream.”
The clown chuckled, motioning toward their truck.
“We sell things,” he said, grinning beneath his mask. “Meat. Special meat.”

The clown’s grin widened.

The fight was fast and brutal.
Sam fired first, dropping one of the clowns with a headshot. Pops followed up, blasting another with his shotgun.
Starlight used her magic to send one clown flying into a streetlamp, knocking him out cold.
Trixie, still freaking out, blindly fired off a spell—accidentally setting one of the clowns’ hair on fire. He screamed and ran in circles before tripping over his own feet.
Pops laughed. “Nice shot, kid!”
Sam ducked as the lead clown swung at him with a machete. He dodged left, then drove his Bowie knife into the clown’s gut.
The remaining clowns realized they were losing and tried to retreat back to their truck.
Pops had other ideas.
Grinning, he grabbed one of the Snowballs from his bag and chucked it at the fleeing driver.
The clown turned—just in time to get a coconut-covered marshmallow snack smacked into his face.
He stumbled—right into Kenny, who tore him down.
